(( Sorry buddeh's but for right now this is gonna' have to be a reserved board. Just to clarify. Otherwise the little gear going around in my mind that tells me PLOT PLOT won't be able to spring free. xD ))
The smell of the lake water, the feel of the cold air whooshing past her body, the cool ground underneath her. Yep, it felt way better then a bed. The sky was a pitch black and the waves could be heard rolling in, crashing against the land. The grass swayed back and forth as the gusts of wind picked up. She remained laying on her back, her arms outspread at her sides. She kept her eyes closed over lightly, a huge grin up on her face. To her this was the perfect way of relieving her stress. Her Golden dragonet, Serinth, was back in the Girls Weyrling Barracks-sound asleep.
Wolf had managed to sneak out undetected, unable to sleep when she knew that the outdoors were calling her name. So, now, here she was; resting in the grass by the water's edge. She reached a hand up to push her bangs out of her eyes. She could feel the hairs tickling her eyelids. 'This is the perfect place to think,' she thought, knowing that it was the favored place of many. Things had been very repetitive lately. Weyrling lessons, chores, weyrling lessons, and then more chores. As usual, she saw the necessity in it and most of the time she really enjoyed everything they were learning. Even though she kept on dwelling up on the day she met that Candidate boy: Riler. 'He was such a sweetie, right?' she thought to herself. 'He's a great friend, I wonder what he's up to right now...' She shrugged it off, knowing that she'd never know. Wolf was not a rebel, so therefore her current daydream of sneaking over to the Males Candidate Barracks to check-up on him was not something she would ever take action in doing.
Wolf had been brought-up right by her mother, and then when her mother died she'd been brought up right by her brother. R'xis had taught her everything she knew, she owed him so much. She hated seeing him suffer over this situation with her Bluerider friend, Akki. She had never expected R'xis to fall head over heels for any one, but he definitely had. She chuckled, amused by the various moments when R'xis, Akki, and herself had been there and R'xis had been trying to win her affections. 'I could never be as ridiculous as him,' she laughed. Her brother could be so funny sometimes, she loved him to death. She focused her hearing in on the sound of the waves, they were so calming... She was glad that she had made the smart decision of going to the bathroom first before coming out here-unlike last time. She wished some one were out here with her so she had some one to talk to. On occasion she'd talk to herself, but in case any one did walk by she didn't want to appear as if she was mentally ill. So, instead, she kept to her thoughts; though it was hard to do. She began to whistle a tune that R'xis always whistled when she was but a mere child. Her lips curved up in to a delicate smile when she had come to the melody's end. She then started from the beginning again. Another gust of wind that came by ruffled her clothing, causing her shirt to rise a bit at the stomach. She lazily ignored it, inhaling and exhaling.

‘By the Shards,’ Riler exclaimed angrily, ‘why is it so hot in here! Admin's Note:
’ He rolled back and forth on his cot, trying to get comfortable; but it was so stuffy in there! Riler frowned and stood still for a moment, wondering what he should do. Maybe talk a walk? Could he get in trouble for being out too late? He hadn’t remembered the Rhia, the Candidate Master, saying that was against the rules for Candidates. Or maybe he just hadn’t been paying much attention to the rules at all? Regardless.
He slipped his shirt back on—he had taken it off to try and get cool; it didn’t really make that much of a difference—and put his boots on his feet and sat up on the bed. Now that he was prepared to go anywhere in the Weyr, the question was where should he go? The kitchens? No, he wasn’t hungry. The Hatching Grounds? That’d probably just make him even hotter; the sand sometimes burned his toes. The lake? ‘Yeah, the lake.’ Riler stood up, exited the Candidates Barracks, and began walking.
He had really enjoyed his first time going to the lake. It was there that he had met a really, really good friend; Wolf. That’s was a memorable day for Riler; they had talked for hours about this and that, they had gone swimming—he recalled that he didn’t seem to have much of a choice in that one, Wolf’s Gold dragon, Serinth, saw to that after she pushed him into the lake—and had a meal in the kitchen. Since that fateful day, Riler had returned to the lake every so often, hoping to see Wolf there, smiling and happy. Alas, it had not happened; since they had met, he had only seen her once or twice from afar, and he hadn’t gotten a chance to say hello to her. It was a real shame, he thought sadly, he really liked her. She was fun to talk to, she had a great sense of humor, and Riler really admired her.
‘Do I only like her as a friend?’
Riler stopped walking for a moment, thought about the question, and then kept walking. Did he only like her as a friend? They had only really met once, and their conversation had been cut short. How could he possibly think of her as more of a friend? ‘I’m just jumping to conclusion,’ he thought, trying to reassure himself, ‘there’s no way I think of her as someone other than a friend, right?’ He was doing a really bad job at reassuring himself.
Riler slowed his pace as he saw that the lake was in view. He could faintly hear the crashing of waves coming from the lake, as he walked to it. However, the closer he got to the lake, he could’ve sworn that he was hearing something else; someone whistling? That’s what it sounded like. His eyes darted back and forth, looking for the maker of the noise. Then he spotted, sprawled out on the ground, a young woman. His heart leapt; could it possibly be Wolf? Though he was skeptical at the thought. Where was her Serinth? Maybe this was just a female Candidate who also felt the need to get out of the sweltering oven that was the Candidates Barracks. But the closer that Riler walked up to the woman, the more assured he was that it was Wolf. But just to be sure…
“Wolf… Admin's Note:
” He asked quietly, just loud enough to be heard over the wind and the whistling. “Is that you?”

The treading of feet went unnoticed by her; she remained laying there in full comfort. She supposed that she could even just fall asleep here and no one would notice-except for Serinth of course. Just then she heard some one calling out her name, and she knew the owner of the voice immediately. It was Riler. She tilted her head back, her heart flying out of her chest when she saw him standing close-by. "By the first egg Riler!" she yelled out, trying to keep her voice as low as possible while still getting across the point that he had scared her. "At least announce yourself," she said, chuckling once her heart rate had lowered a little. She folded her hands over her stomach. Her eyes then widened when she realized that Riler was here-with her! "Wait... What are you doing here? Its late-really late." She knew that he'd probably be asking her the same thing next so she figured she'd just go right on ahead and give him an answer. "The only reason I'm out here is because I find it quite useful to have some time to myself to think-not that you’re intruding on that time or anything! Heck, sit down if you like, your hurting my neck by making me look at you from upside down; especially when I'm way down here," she chuckled. It was pretty obvious that she was pretty hyper, and the volume of her voice always tended to travel far distances. She couldn't help it, no matter how hard she tried to contain herself some times she just couldn't manage to. A lot of people found it downright hilarious, and other people just developed headaches. She hoped he wouldn't be irritated with her...
Serinth remained fast asleep and from what she could tell the only two people alive out here were she and Riler. It was nice. She hadn't seen the boy in what seemed like forever, having just been thinking about tonight how she missed his company. 'I guess I don't have to summon him from the Boys Candidate Barracks after all,' she thought to herself. She hoped that she wasn't intruding on a night that he was thinking he'd have all to himself... 'I'd feel awful,' she sniffed. The sight of him relaxed her, so she kept from asking him if he'd prefer to continue on his way. 'I mean, if he really wanted to he just would've kept on walking-right?' She felt wide-awake, now more then ever. She wished that she had taken the opportunity to go on more nightly ventures earlier on; maybe then she would've bumped in to Riler even sooner! A smirk played up on her lips and she put a hand to her mouth in confusion, looking solemn all of a sudden. She let slip the thoughts of what could've prompted this sudden feel of excitement.

Riler jumped slightly as the young woman hissed at him. ‘Yep,’ he thought cheerfully, ‘definitely Wolf.’ He’d recognize her voice anywhere. “I did announce myself, didn’t I? Be thankful I didn’t decide to sit on you and scream ‘Hi!’ at you,” Riler said smoothly. The thought hadn’t crossed his mind, though he reckoned that it would’ve made for a nice, hilarious surprise visit. Before Riler could ask Wolf the same question, as to what she was doing out here, she said it. He began to feel somewhat guilty for intruding on her private-time until she invited him to sit down with her. He, of course, lying down next to her left side, propping his head up with his fist so he could see Wolf as he talked with her. “Well, I’m out here because it’s nice and cool out here, and the Candidates Barracks are like an oven!” He sighed. “They’re usually not this hot; I don’t know what the problem is tonight…” He shrugged his shoulders. “Anyways, so yeah, I came out here to cool down. Not take a swim, just…cool down.”
“You seem active tonight,” Riler noted out loud. “Excited about something, or are you just a natural night-crawler?” He gave a soft laugh. He was very pleased that Wolf was here. He had never really ventured out from the Candidates Barracks when they were supposed to sleep, so he didn’t know if he would get in trouble or not. Now that he had a friend here to talk to, he supposed he didn’t care whether or not he got yelled at. It’d be worth it, now that someone was here to chat with; especially since it was Wolf. “I have a question,” he began, “is it wrong for me to be out of the Barracks this late in the night?” Just so he’d know in the future, might as well as ask. “I’m not worried about being out, but it’s just one of those things that might be worth knowing. Ya know?”

The adolescent girl sighed disapprovingly of her friend. "Don't you know anything?" she asked him jokingly. "If you would've sat on me I just would've bitten you, plain and simple." A laugh escaped her; watching him lay down next to her. She kept her hands up on her stomach and tilted her head to the side so that she could gaze up on his face. Her eyes had acquired pretty well to the darkness, able to make out Riler's main features. She smirked a bit once more, and she still knew naught as to why. "Hot, huh? That is odd... Oh well, your here now, that's what counts right?" She snickered at his mentioning of whether or not he'd get in trouble for leaving the Candidate Barracks in the middle of the night. "Hey, look at this way" she told him, "I'm a Weyrling and I'd get in trouble for leaving. Lets just pray that we don't get caught," she said. She dropped her mouth and put a hand over it teasingly before chuckling softly. Her chuckles rang out in to the still night air. "Me, excited about something? Noooo," she snorted. She gave him a wave of her hand. She blushed a bit; wishing the hot feeling in her cheeks would fade. "I'm just a night crawler, yep. A little itty bitty night traveler who raids on people in there sleep." She knew she was teasing but just to make sure that Riler knew she winked at him-though unsure if he'd catch it in the dark.
"I'm just really hyper at night." She rolled her right shoulder, her muscles a bit stiff. She extended her left hand to her shoulder, massaging it a bit; as best she could while lying down. She winced a bit, shifting in her place. The next breeze to come on by made her shiver; she wished she ‘d brought something warmer to wear. She wondered if he were cold, imagining so, though she was always either hot or cold so she suspected not every one's body would be as sensitive as hers. She didn't bother to complain, because if he did happen to be cold she'd only be reminding him of it. Her hair was sprawled out beneath her head, smoothed out over the grass. She couldn't wait until the morning rolled around because it was usually at least a bit warmer then, or it could've just been her own weird personal body temperature... She continued to look to his face, intrigued to hear what he'd have to say next. She wasn't really sure or unsure if she particularly liked this awkward way in which she felt. She again probed her mind to try and remember how R'xis had seemed to her when Akki was around. She pulled up a blank, wishing she had talked more to him about this sort of thing. She'd have to ask him later... or maybe not. She knew that R'xis could be over protective of her at times, and with good reason. She just didn't want him developing a dislike for Riler; not that he was the kind of person to ever be capable of acting like that. 'Okay, the real truth of it all is that I'm not sure I'm ready to really talk about feeling like this. I mean its not as if these feelings are ever going to go away, and its not like anything is going to happen with them, so why not just keep it to myself and save myself some embarrassment and awkward conversation?' She felt contented with this choice, until her smirk enlarged and she just felt completely unsure of herself. 'He's a friend, a good friend. He's Riler,' she thought in attempt to reassure herself. 'He's a friend just like...' She drew yet another blank, she couldn't think of any other male friends she had at the moment. She resisted the urge to pout over her shortcomings. 'Riler would think I'm ridiculous right now,' she decided, studying his face with out giving consideration to her actions-too enraptured in her thoughts. 'He views me as just a friend, obviously, and therefore there's nothing to worry about! Nothing-nothing at all-nothing'.

Riler laughed with her. “That’s a good point. But don’t worry,” he said as an amused look spread across his face, “I’ll find a way to surprise you and not lose a chunk of my leg at the same time. Promise.” Riler squinted his eyes, trying to make out Wolf’s figure. It was pretty dark and his eyes still hadn’t adjusted to the light all that well. ‘Give it a few minutes,’ he thought to himself, ‘and I’ll be able to see her as clear as day.’
“Mm,” he murmured in agreement. “Uncomfortably hot. I’m not sure how warm it gets in the Female Barracks, but in the Male Barracks, it’s never come to me nearly sweating.” His nerves seemed to increase when she mentioned that even she could get into trouble for being out—‘If I’m caught, who knows what they’ll do!’—but these thoughts were quickly stricken from his mind as she laughed, lightening his mood immensely. Why did Riler like her laugh so much? What about it seemed so…uplifting? “Well,” he said, “just make sure you don’t go raiding through my things.” He snorted. “If I find something missing, I might need to hunt you down, now. Congratulations on becoming a future prime suspect,” he said amusingly.
“Hyper at night, huh? Why not try running laps? Climbing mountains? Or doing my chores?” He chuckled. “You can always do my chores at night if it’ll make you feel any better; I know it’d make me feel a whole lot better.” He smiled and laughed a little before he went silent. He closed his eyes for a moment, letting his other senses take control; he felt the cool air breeze as it swept through his air, over his face and body, cooling him down; he felt the grass beneath his body, tickling at his arms; he heard the sound of the gently waves as they lapped along the lake’s shore. All of these senses put Riler into a state of peace he hadn’t really experienced in a while. Ever since he had arrived at the Weyr, he hadn’t had a lot of time to relax—not to say that he couldn’t take a break or anything! But he never really got time to just sit down and smell the roses—but now that he was comfortable he felt as if he could just let his mind wander. Almost immediately, it wandered to Wolf. He saw he laughing, saw her smiling…Riler suddenly wasn’t relaxed anymore. He felt like a creep. A pervert? No, he didn’t like Wolf simply because of her looks. But he felt like a creep. It wasn’t natural to like someone this soon! It wasn’t normal.
‘But this feeling feels so good…’
…True.
‘Is it wrong to feel good?’
No way!
‘Then why try to deny these feelings?’
Riler didn’t have an answer to himself. So he simply smiled and continued to stare at Wolf, waiting for his vision to improve.

Wolf blinked a couple of times, confirming his promise. "Well, I'll be holding you to that promise. Don't you forget that either. I like surprises, depends on what they are," she said. Who didn't love a good surprise? She hoped he wasn't planning on trying to scare her at a later date; it was all too easy to scare her. She spooked at a single movement-even if it was from some one beside her that she was aware of being there. "Its pretty cool at night in the Girls Weyrling Barracks actually, most of the time its really just... comfortable. I prefer being outside though, in truth." She reached over to punch his shoulder playfully, succeeding. "Steal your things, now why would I go and do that?" she said, pretending to be offended that he'd say such a thing about her. "Shame on you Riler for accusing me, innocent me, of such an act. Fine, keep me as a prime suspect but I'm keeping you as one now because of your-your... paranoia!" She stuck her tongue out at him childishly, blushing a bit because she realized that she was acting immature.
"I think I'd prefer lazing about in my hyper state, or doing something I enjoy thank you very much. I hate doing my own chores, so why in Faranth's name would I do yours? Hm?" She again extended her arm out, this time to poke the side of his face before pulling back slowly. Each time she reached over to poke or prod at him she got the shivers going up and down her spine. It made her feel the need to shift her position. She pulled her legs up so now her knees were facing skyward. She laughed a bit, it not coming out nearly as loud as it had last-time. This time it was at a normal level that only he'd be able to hear, not the whole entire Weyr. For the time-being she had managed to convince herself that she'd be fine since Riler proceeded to show no interest in her-as more then just a friend of course. Little did she know of her naive-behaviour. Her tongue traced her lips, a habit she had developed for when ever she was thinking. Luckily it wasn't a nasty habit like most people tended to have like spitting on the ground or gnawing on your fingernails.
Wolf wasn't quite lady-like, so she didn't have the full "feminine charm". There were clear aspects of her that reflected that of the 'typical-girl' yet most things about her weighed more heavily on the tomboy side. One of her favourite things to do was to play fight with friends. She fought mercilessly at times, and she often had to be careful not to overdo it. She remembered when time when she had been fighting with her brother-he had been the main person in her life at one point-and she had kicked him right... well... it wasn't pretty. At first she thought she had killed him but when he stood up and choked out a few words she was assured that he'd live to see another day. Ever since then when ever the thought even came to her mind of play fighting with a boy she reminded herself not to ever kick... there... Wolf also wasn’t very emotional, she did a great job at concealing most everything and even important issues didn’t at times present themselves until later on when she knew she’d be able to control herself when talking about it. She followed the whole: “Got to be tough, can’t fall apart in a crisis” motto.

“You like surprises, huh?” Riler asked. “Well,” he said with a smirk, “I’ll find a few good ways to surprise you, don’t you worry.” He nodded assertively. “Oh yes, you won’t need to worry about a thing.” He barked out a loud laugh—probably a little too loud, but then again, it wasn’t as if there were a lot of people walking around at this time of night. They were probably all on their own…The thought didn’t scare him. In fact, it was very comforting.
“I apologize, Miss Wolf,” he said with a smile, clearly sarcastic, “I meant no distress on your being. I hope that someday, you’ll be able to somehow forgive me for my atrocious actions and comments.” He snorted once. “And what do you mean, I’m paranoid? It’s only paranoia if they’re not out to get you, m’dear.” He hadn’t even noticed that he had called Wolf “m’dear,” so he hadn’t laughed or made a comment about it. “And alas, it never hurts to try. Fine, be bored and lazy during your hyper phase, just see where that gets you!” As she poked his face, he could feel it blush. Riler thanked the first egg that it was very dark out and she probably hadn’t noticed his complexion change in the slightest. He hoped, anyways. Even as she pulled her finger away, he could still feel the warmth of where she had touched him radiating from his cheek. He closed his eyes again, savoring the feeling.
‘This will be a night to remember,’ Riler thought. ‘A night to remember indeed.’
As his vision improved, Riler began to examine Wolf’s body in the dark night. Even though he could still hardly make out her figure, he still thought she looked lovely. She was perfect; great sense of humor, great personality, great looks. What more could a guy want? But he knew the rules; Candidates and Weyrlings cannot have relationships. How could they possibly have a relationship, anyways? The Rider of the most powerful Bronze would be the one who received her—it seemed like such an awful way of putting it, but to Riler, that’s how it appeared to be.
Besides. How could she possibly like him back?

"Alright," she replied, "I'll be waiting." She flashed him one of her infamous smirks, hoping he'd realize that she was plotting things against him if the surprise was to her disliking. His laugh at the end wasn't all that reassuring that it wouldn't be... She scoffed up on hearing the sarcasm dripping from his words. "Well, I never! What a rude boy!" she said, acting out as some arrogant girl that only expected the best from other people. She then began to laugh thunderously, having thought she went completely overboard with how she hung on each word. "When there not out to get you?" she questioned, taking a moment or two to fully understand that sentence. When he called her m'dear she felt all warm and fuzzy. She hated being confused, but there it was, confusion. "Oh..." she finally said, understanding fully, now that she had given it some 'serious' thought. "Hey!" she yelled, laughing yet again. There seemed to be a lot of laughs shared between them, it was nice. "There's also a difference when you want some one to be after you," she said-faking flirtation... It dawned on her that she wasn't ever the type to ever fake flirtation, she either was or wasn't. And she most definitely was. She began to regret her words, but its not like she hadn't meant them! What was the harm? She imagined him thinking to himself: 'Silly Wolf, doesn't she know I don't like girls...' Wait, no, reword that. 'Silly Wolf, don't you know that I don't like YOU.' Ah, there, that sounded just about right.
Up on thinking the way she was Wolf felt troubled, but then felt troubled because she was troubled over being troubled-about this. It was only until she saw Riler observing her in a... lets just say different way. She immediately looked away from him, knowing that she was just imagining it in her head. 'Bad Wolf!' she thought, 'Don’t be creating fake actions for people, bad!' She would've smacked herself but then that would've prompted the whole Riler questioning, "What was that for?" ordeal. She preferred not to have to contend with that. Instead she looked back to Riler, making eye contact with him. She felt herself holding her breath for some reason... 'Look away, look away, look away!' she pleaded with herself yet, guess what? She didn't look away.

Riler was able to make out the grin on her face. ‘Good,’ he thought, ‘I can finally see her well.’ He laughed with her upon being accused of being a “rude boy.” He waved a finger in front of her face, taking a ticking noise with his tongue. “Not rude; but playful and sarcastic.” He smiled, and stopped waving his finger. He gently poked the tip of Wolf’s noise before he pulled his finger back to his body; he didn’t want to have his finger bit. His smiled simply widened as he found that he had confused Wolf. He was about to explain what it meant to her when she seemed to get it, exclaiming at him. He let out a quiet chuckle as she mentioned there was a difference when you wanted to be chased. He let his chuckle die out as he examined the comment quickly. It seemed rather…Out of place. Something that Wolf had never done before. Maybe she was simply tired and needed to get some sleep? No, that didn’t make any sense; she was hyper a few moments ago. What was she implying? Maybe nothing. Maybe he was just being paranoid. Or maybe…
‘Nah. Couldn’t be. Could it?’
Maybe there was a possible way he could see how she would react if he hypothetically asked? Or…something? Might as well as give it a go, what could he lose?
‘Pride, dignity, a friend…’
But what could he gain?
‘A lot more than just a friend.’
“H-hey Wolf,” he asked, trying to keep his voice from stuttering. “What would you do…” His voice trailed off as he tried to word his sentence carefully without giving himself away. “…If one of your friends secretly had a crush on another one of your friends? What could you say to the boy—er, person—who had the crush? W-would you edge him on to ask her out?”
He felt like he hadn’t given away too much information. But he was still worried as he waited in silence for a reply. He had said “boy,” inferring that this might not be a hypothetical situation and might be a factual situation; and his voice had been stuttering. But maybe she hadn’t noticed those things.
‘Yeah right.’ Riler felt like a complete idiot.

When he poked the tip of her nose, after having removed his finger, she snapped at him teasingly. "Yes, you are surely all of those things," she said with the hint of a smirk. She regarded him well he thought, unable to discontinue in her pondering of what he could very well be thinking about. 'Not me... not me,' she said. She needed these constant little words of reminder to keep her virtually sane. When his question came tumbling out of his mouth-or more like crawling since he was stuttering-she felt like some one had just twisted her stomach in a knot. 'Why would he be asking this? Why is he asking this? No, really, why? He's a friend, so therefore he wants friendly advise. Maybe on a girl he likes! Oh well, so what if he likes a girl. Suck it up Wolf! Suck it up!' She resisted the urge to ask him whom the lucky girl was, having assumed that he was talking about himself now since he had said both "boy" and "he." Yes, there was no way that his question had been hypothetical. 'He wants friend-to-friend advise, so give it,' she told herself. She mustered up all the courage she had to answer.
"Well, first I'd start off by telling them to sit down so I could talk about it with them..." 'And we're already laying down so that counts I guess.' "And then I'd start off by saying that there's no need for them to be nervous, because I'm sure-especially if I consider them a friend-that I expect any one to love them for who they are. Then I'd say that, in my own personal experience, you should always grab at an opportunity that you know you feel is right. Otherwise, you'll never get that chance again. Then you'll be wondering 'what if' for the rest of your life." She shrugged at her practical advice, wondering if it had been at all what he was looking for. She always tried to be good at these sorts of things, providing answers to those in need. She had also attempted, if only a little, to make her comments specific to his person. She then inhaled sharply, her exhale being hardly audible. Her next words were something she wasn't sure if she'd be regretting-'but what if he really is talking about me... T-then he'll know, maybe... T-that-' She broke out of her messy thoughts,
"Riler?" she called, putting her left leg straight out while the other one remained up. "I don't think you ever have to worry about asking some one something like that. Any one would be more then lucky to have some one like you care about them..." She felt like she was going to have to wait a lifetime just to hear what he'd say in response.

Riler listened in silence as he heard her advice on the matter, analyzing it, bit by bit. “Well, first I'd start off by telling them to sit down so I could talk about it with them...” ‘We’re sort of sitting down right now,’ he mused to himself. “And then I'd start off by saying that there's no need for them to be nervous, because I'm sure-especially if I consider them a friend-that I expect any one to love them for who they are.” Riler didn’t know what to make of this. It seemed a little confusing; Riler didn’t like being confused. Was Wolf nervous about giving him this kind of advice? He didn’t know. Maybe. It made Riler even more suspicious, and even more hopeful… “Then I'd say that, in my own personal experience, you should always grab at an opportunity that you know you feel is right.” ‘It does feel right.’ Or rather, it didn’t feel wrong. Riler couldn’t accurately pinpoint how it felt, because he had never felt this way before. It was something new, something different, something good. Very good. “Otherwise, you'll never get that chance again. Then you'll be wondering 'what if' for the rest of your life.” True. If he didn’t ever tell Wolf how he felt about her, then he’d probably question ‘what if’ for the rest of his life. He knew that he’d never be able to forget about Wolf; she was just too special.
And then…Her last comment. Riler felt something inside of him lift. He suddenly felt warm all over his body. Not like the heat in the Candidates Barracks, not like the heat from a fire, but…heat. Warmth. It was splendid. He didn’t want the feeling to ever go away. It just felt too wonderful. “W-Wolf… Admin's Note:
” He finally managed to say. “The t-truth is that I have found someone in the Weyr that I really like. She’s funny, smart, and she makes me feel so special inside…” His voice trailed off as tried to get out those last six words.
“And that person is you, Wolf.”
He felt his stomach immediately drop. Nervous. Panic-stricken. Revealed! He felt like Wolf would just laugh at him now, think of what he said as if he was joking, and just continue talking like nothing had changed. Or even worse! She might now be scared of him. She might never want to see him ever again. Riler suddenly felt a little sick, so he closed his eyes, keeping his ears open, to whatever Wolf might say next.

Wolf turned her head back the other way, staring at the sky. It had been her that came out here tonight, its not like she'd been looking for him; looking for something like this to happen. This had been mere coincidence. Riler was here, enjoying the night air, and he'd gotten a bit too much oxygen. He didn't mean at all what he said, because in most cases (or at least the ones she ran through in her head) no guy would ever mean this when one finally did decide to approach her. She closed her eyes over, concentrating on the feel of her breathing. Breathing exercises kept her calm-kept her from overreacting.
Overreacting would be freaking out at him, and that was something she could never picture herself doing. Overreacting would be getting up and storming off, another thing that she would never do. Overreacting would be... "Riler, I definitely feel the same way." She wasn't sure when she had even decided to say what she did, but there it was, the whole unfolded truth-every last bit of it. All her thoughts and conclusions had been wrong and instead come to this, something that gave her a much better feel. She didn't dare look over at him, afraid. She wasn't sure exactly what she was afraid of. Perhaps it was herself, perhaps it was the Weyrling rules; the rules that very much applied for the Candidates too. Somehow none of this seemed to matter, because while these thoughts lurked around in her head so did the thought that they were there for Serinth's protection-and currently the little Gold was fast asleep. Also, none of this mattered because she imagined herself in the arms of a tall, faceless, Bronzerider. All her dreams of having true love, of knowing what it was like to be loved in return... they'd be gone if she didn't hold on to what was happening right here, right now. She didn't want to be a Bronzerider's object, the thing keeping his status. No, it just wasn't her... and could never be her... This fear was just too great.
She still didn't look over at Riler; instead she closed her own eyes over, enjoying this pleasant feeling forming in all the sections of her body. For once the silence was comfortable, and that was a shock in itself because every one knew how uncomfortable dead silence made her. This was very different. Just like Riler was very different.

Riler was silent. Expressionless. He didn’t know what to say, how to act, how to feel. Was this right? Was this wrong? Was she simply humoring him? Or did she really mean what she said? No, she wouldn’t toy with him like that. She wasn’t the kind of person to mess around with someone else’s feelings. No, she was speaking the truth. The honest truth. He let his eyes slowly open, letting them slowly drift up Wolf’s body until he was looking at her face—half her face, anyways, she wasn’t looking at him. Riler wanted to reach out to her, to touch her arm, to give her comfort, to reassure her that everything would be fine and alright, that this was real. But Riler was beginning to think that maybe he had fallen asleep, maybe he was dreaming right now…He frowned at the thought. ‘If this is a dream, I hope I never wake up.’
He slowly let his arm reach out to hers, and gently clamped onto her shoulder. “I’m…I’m glad…” ‘Glad,’ he thought to himself, ‘that word doesn’t even come close to how I feel right now.’ He wasn’t sure that there was even a word to describe how he was feeling right now. The feeling that made butterflies roam around in his stomach, but made his heart swoon. ‘Maybe someday, in the future,’ he thought to himself, ‘I’ll find out what the word is.’ He didn’t care about words and definitions right now. He only cared about what he was feeling. He only cared for Wolf.
It slowly dawned on Riler that…‘Oh jeez…What if we’re caught?’ He didn’t mean outside. If they were caught outside, they’d probably just be assigned more chores. But what if they were caught…together? In a relationship? What could happen to them? Did the fact that Wolf’s dragon was a Gold add anything to this factor? Could he possibly be thrown out of Dark Moon?
“…What have I done?”

She hadn't been expecting him to say much of anything, but then he reached out and grabbed her shoulder saying something along the lines of "I'm glad." She frowned, having thought that maybe his reaction would have been a bit more, well, whatever. She couldn't expect him to react any more then what she did, right? And it was probably more then just a slight shock to him, to have his affections returned in word. "Glad?" she questioned; smirking a bit, "I'd hope so" she teased. Again this was one of those moments that needed lightening-up. When he asked aloud: "What have I done?" her smirk was completely wiped off of her face, and she became all the more aware that his hand was still on her shoulder. She wanted to move, to comfort him as well, and say that everything would be all right because they hadn't done anything wrong.
'Will it always be that way?' she wondered, 'will we always be so innocent?' She kept looking skyward; again not able to bring herself to look at him no matter how hard she tried. She felt like she'd just lose control of herself if she did. "It’s going to be okay Riler... We haven't-we haven't done anything," she swallowed. Was that some-sort of rejection? Would he now think that she didn't want him to be a part of her life in that way Admin's Note:
"Though I can't guarantee it'll always be that way-I mean-well..." She smacked her forehead for real this time; in disbelief that she had even just said that. He was already nervous and now she was allowing her big mouth to run? She heaved a sigh. There wasn't any sort-of solution to this. What was done was done; only thing was that they couldn't tell anybody about this if they did decide to actually act on it.
"Nobody can know," she reminded him, wanting to make sure he knew that. Being a Weyrling she knew all the more the seriousness of what could happen if some one did. Well, they'd receive a lecture or two-not that big-but still. It was a rule, a rule they had unconsciously agreed to. At this moment in time she wished that she could stamp all over the shardin' rule and leave it at that! She let her other leg drop down, her body now stretched out in the grass. Her arms rested flat down at her sides, and she kept perfectly still. The only thing that moved her was the gentle push of the wind.
Serinth meant everything to her, the world to her, and she wouldn't let her be hurt by this. 'When she's asleep,' she reassured herself, forming a plan. Its not like Riler had said he wanted anything from her. He'd said he liked her, asked her advice on how to ask some one out, its not like he was doing or saying anything more then that that implied that he was going to act on his possible wants. She remained partially calm, knowing that she could very well be trying to fix a non-existent problem. It really all depended on Riler, not that she'd tell him that to make him nervous. For if he asked she wouldn't deny him, and that she was a thousand-percent sure about...

Riler wasn’t really reassured by her. True enough, they hadn’t done anything, but that didn’t mean they still couldn’t get in trouble. Was getting in trouble all that really concerned him? ‘No, I don’t think it’s actually getting in trouble that bothers me…’ But what was it? Was it the possibility of getting thrown out of Dark Moon? Was it the possibility that me might not ever be able to see Wolf again? ‘…I think that might be it.’
Her next statement shocked Riler; for a moment. No, there could be a few explanations to that, right? It could just mean that they might need to get to know each other more, right? It didn’t necessarily mean…Something…Physically… …Right? Riler suddenly felt really warm. He wasn’t sure if it was a good warmth or a nervous warmth. Maybe somewhere in the middle. Maybe not.
“I know nobody can know,” he said calmly. “If somebody finds out and reports it to the WW, we might now be able to talk to each other for a long time…” He went silent, just to provide emphasis on ‘a long time,’ both for Wolf and himself. They couldn’t get caught. They wouldn’t get caught. It would be their secret. They’re special, lovely secret.
“I won’t tell anyone,” he asserted firmly, “it’s nobody else’s business but our own, right?” He didn’t mind talking with other people—he had made some good friends here at Dark Moon, most of which he really trusted—but this was something that they really didn’t need to know.
A thought suddenly frightened Riler somewhat. “What will Serinth say?” Was it possible for her to not find out? How couldn’t she? Riler didn’t know the semantics of how dragon-to-Rider communication worked—only that they conversed through their heads—so he didn’t know if Wolf could block memories from Serinth. And if Wolf couldn’t, would the young Gold approve of such a thing? What would happen if she didn’t approve? Would she squeal? Riler waited for Wolf’s response in anticipation.

It was true that it was hot in the Candidate's barracks-not only in the boys section of it, but the girl's section as well. Kaiya knew she should have stayed indoors, where the rest of the female Candidates were sleeping soundly, though she could see perspiration on the faces of some, and not many bothered to throw any more than a light sheet over themselves for cover-if even that. It was just too hot and clammy indoors. Kaiya had never been much one for clammy rooms, in fact, it made it impossible for the red-headed Candidate to do anything but toss and turn in frustration. What she needed was a swim, she decided fervently. That would cool her down, and it would be refreshing and maybe even help her sleep. Could she maybe even get away with sleeping out of doors? Now that would have been nice...
She crept on tiptoe out of the Barracks, slowly at first, and then picking up her pace as she exited out the entrance to the Barracks, heading at a light jog for the the Lake, a smile on her face as the cool wind blew her long hair in wisps about her face, but away from the back of her neck. She felt so much more at ease out here, in the great outdoors, so much more free. There were certain rules for being a Candidate, and one was lesser freedom to do things like this. She couldn't remember the last time she'd gone out at night for a swim-not since she'd arrived, in fact. Back home at her old Weyr, it was a favorite pass-time of hers. Sometimes, when he had the chance to do so, Tikal would come out and enjoy a swim too. She hadn't even seen him yet, though-so busy she'd been with her chores-she knew she'd spotted him from afar one day, but he'd disappeared amongst the crowds, and she wasn't allowed near the male's Barracks. She frowned in disappointment-he'd have liked to come out too, she was sure-though he slept like a rock compared to her, her cousin Tikal did...
She thought she'd never be caught, she even took the long way through the trees and past the large pile of rocks and boulders to get to the lake. Shew was about to go further, when she heard voices-and panicked. Diving behind the nearest bush, she hoped she hadn't been heard-what if it were a rider, who reported her being out past night hours? She turned pale, and took a deep breath. She could hear the voices clearly now, and thought she recognized one as belonging to the girl who'd impressed the Gold at the last clutch-but wasn't she a Weyrling? Were Weyrlings even allowed out here, either? She crept closer, wishing she knew, the foliage covering her completely. Yes, it was the girl who'd impressed the Gold-Wolf, was it? She'd heard someone call her by that name. She was about to just come out altogether, when a second voice spoke up. "Shards," she murmured under her breath, as she ducked even further down. What had she got herself into, and how could she now try to escape when she'd have to stand up again to do so? The answer was simple: she couldn't. She'd simply have to wait for them to leave first!
She was not nosy. She was not prone to gossip or idle chatter. But she was actually in quite close proximity to the two, even if she was hidden well. And therefore, she arrived just in time to hear Riler confess his feelings to Wolf. She recognized the second voice, the male's, better than she did Wolf's. He was another Candidate, like herself! She turned red as she overheard Wolf's reply, and their agreement to keep it a secret. Now, Kaiya didn't know much about the rules for Weyrlings-but she knew one of them, and it applied to Candidates, too: no relationships, none whatsoever, for Candidates or Weyrlings. Candidates, because if they impressed, it would be as it was for Weyrlings-their feelings could damage the unprepared minds of their dragons. Their emotions, if they got out of hand, could seriously affect their partners. And here she was, at this time, overhearing a Candidate and a Weyrling-a Gold impressed one at that!-confessing feelings for each other and vowing that no one should know!
Well, she knew now, and didn't want to know! She was very, very unsure about what to do. Kaiya was no rat. However, she began to think of the consequences that their actions could have upon Wolf's gold, and upon the boy's dragon, if he impressed. The situation didn't look good, and she felt out of place, like a spy. She made up her mind then to leave, to just leave, and think about it tomorrow. She cursed inwardly that she couldn't have her swim, that it had been foiled by seeing something she should not have, and didn't want to have. So, she got up slowly, trying to kneel over to remain hidden...and got caught up in a tangled bush root, and fell over with a yelp and a 'whomp' as the air was knocked form her lungs. She gasped for breath at the discomfort of not getting air for the moment...and then even while doing so knew that there was no way in Pern that she hadn't been heard! She began to panic, and couldn't get up, clutching her ribs and still trying to get any air she could, while somewhere in the forefront of her mind thinking: what will I do... Wolf nodded, he was exactly right. "No body's but our own," she said-offering him a smile when she finally did turn to look at him. When Serinth was brought up she managed to be calm, since she had already thought over everything involving Serinth in the beginning. "When Serinth is asleep she's not registered in to... us-this-me I mean," she said, looking frustrated by how she couldn't seem to have anything come out right tonight. She had been about to ask him an important question when she heard a loud thump behind them. She shifted closer to him unnoticeably, pointing over to the nearest tree which appeared to be partly concealed by an out-of-control bush. "What was that?" she questioned, having current shortness of breath. She kept her voice at a low whisper, pointing over at what her gaze had been directed to. She looked back at Riler, on her side, then back over at the bushy-surrounding. She bet that she was just being paranoid, though most times her hearing didn't fail her. She wondered if Riler was just shurgging it off? She turned back to him, a bit calmer... "D-did you hear that?" she stuttered, wondering if she was just so nervous about some one actually being out around this time of night that she had merely imagined it. Tonight was already a night to remember, they didn't need to now remember it for a different reason-a reason that would leave the pair completely miserable. 'Please don't let it be Weyrwoman Christae, or the Weyrling Master!' she thought, biting her lip nervously. 'Who else could it be?' Especially since, if some one was behind there, that indicated that they were spying! 'What if its a respectable dragonrider and now he'll think that we're... that I'm...' She closed her eyes over. 'No, I'm not doing something wrong. Plus I wasn't about to... I don't think... I-I-' She looked back at Riler once again for reassurance. (( OOC| Hey, sorry for shortness. At a friends house... ))

“Not…registered?” Riler didn’t understand what she meant when she said this. He was about to question her more about it when he suddenly heard movement coming from someone, somewhere close. Wolf was the first to point it out, asking what it was. Riler had a sneaking suspicion as to what it was—no, he knew what it was—but part of him didn’t want to pursue it. Part of him wanted to run away from it. But he knew that would be no good. If it was a Rider, then their dragon could easily spot them and know who they were.
When she asked a second time, Riler whispered hoarsely, “I think somebody’s there…” But if it was a Rider, why weren’t they being punished already? What was taking them so long? Maybe….Maybe it was somebody who also didn’t want to be seen? But that didn’t make much sense, how many people could be out at this time of night? Did tonight happen to be ‘have everyone go sneaking out’ night and Riler simply did not know?
He waited another few moments, listening carefully, his eyes wide open, staring at the bushes where Wolf had pointed. When nobody emerged from them, Riler slowly began to get up. He whispered to Wolf, “Just stay down for a moment, alright?” He quietly crept closer and closer to the bush, taking his time. As he got closer to the bushes, he noticed that a panting noise was coming from them. ‘Somebody’s definitely in there,’ he affirmed to himself. He put his ear very close to the bush, and listened; it sounded as if someone was gasping for air. Riler took a deep breath, himself—his nerves were rattling him—and jammed his arms into the bush, pushing them aside so he could see whoever was down there.
There, lying down on the ground, panting, was a young girl; someone Riler could definitely recognize. “By the egg, Kaiya!” Riler growled angrily. Even in the darkness, he could recognize her pretty wavy red hair. She was a Candidate, like him. What in blazes was she doing out here at this time! Admin's Note:
“You scared me half to death! What are you doing out here at a time like this! Admin's Note:
What—hey,” he said, finally noticing that she was clutching her rib, his face turning from disgruntled to concerned, “are you alright?” His worries about getting in trouble or getting yelled at quickly diminished. “Can you breathe alright? Shake your head if you can’t.” He knew that it was very difficult to talk without breathing, it and took a lot of air out of your body if you did talk.
