"Oh sorry. I was just thinking." Nike said looking away to pick up and move her now empty mug of beer, and got a new one to fill it up with hot klah. The Healer gulped it down, the warmth flowing through down her body. It felt so good to have fresh, hot klah.

K'dan gave another sigh of relief and went to sit by his healer friend. He never did sit back down when he was going to confront the two riders. He thought to himself, He would never do something like that in the past. Would having Hydrath change him? He looked down at his dragon that was with Nike's white, the two seemed to be good friends. That would be good for both of them, being that both were perhaps the two smallest they could relate to each other better. He gave a grin as he turned his attention back on the conversations going on. What is wrong mine? You seemed troubled and stressed earlier. ~Nothing~, K'dan quickly replied.

Nike let out another long yawn into her hand, then set her mug of klah down on the table. "I am sooooooo tired. Hatchings take a lot out of you." Nike said with a little smile. "You tired Ruanth?" She got off her chair, and kneeled down on the stone ground by the two little dragons. The white lifted her head and nodded. Yes I am. Are you tired Hydrath?

Yes I am tired but I think my mine wants to stay for a bit and socialize with others. "No that's ok. We can go and sleep. Nike if you are about to leave I could walk with you. I wouldn't mind some friendly company while I walk to the barracks", he said to her. He got up and said goodbye to everyone.

Christae listened and watched the people during the feast. She nearly lost her temper and she felt Kaith's flare when she heard the drunken riders. She cooled down a bit when she noticed Nike handling the situation wonderfully.
When Sh'iron said his speech she cheered with the rest even though she had no drink in her hand. She went to him and slid her arm through his. "Very moving speech Weyrleader." She told him, slightly amused.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rhia had been walking nearby when she heard the drunken comments about Ruanth and Hydrath. She had to laugh when the copper Kylath sent sweetrolls tumbling in all directions.
"I am almost ashamed to be a brownrider." She said, loud enough for them to hear. "To think that someone would deem other dragons less worthy or useful than they are."
There is nothing wrong with being small. Each have their own strengths and weaknesses. What we larger dragons are weak in, our smaller brothers and sisters are strong. We have an equal balance of power and a better chance to survive against our deadly foe. As dragonriders, you SHOULD see that.
Mneith spoke so that all in the room could hear him. His voice dripped with contempt for those riders who had insulted the young hatchlings. Rhia was suprised at her brown. He was not normally so wise. She agreed though. She was glad that Nike took care of the situation. She had started to clench her fists, but she saw that Christae was silently watching the episode and relaxed.
Mneith turned his attention to the hatchlings. Greetings little ones. He spoke to them all. Welcome to the world. I am brown Mneith. Ebbeth, you shouldn't complain...I couldn't fit in my barracks only a few months after I hatched. RhiaMine had to kick me to get me unstuck. Sometimes being so large is a curse but I wouldn't trade my size for anythinh. I would love to be inside watching you dragonets.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Christae was getting tired. She noted that most of the new Weyrlings were looking tired as well. She rose her arm for silence.
"Our new Weyrlings will be starting classes soon. We will give you a few days to recuperate from the excitement of hatching. If you don't know where the Weyrling Barracks are by now, follow your fellow Weyrlings or ask an older rider. We all spent our time there." She smiled, remembering that Kaith and Mneith had been the first to outgrow their rooms. Then, the brown and gold had almost been the same size. Now Mneith was nowhere near the size of the large gold.
"I wish you a safe return home. Holders, when you are ready to leave, simply find the dragon rider who brought you here. They will return you to your homes. I deem that tomorrow will be a day of rest for all weyrfolk. All I ask is that a couple of the cooks check in every once in a while to see that the night hearth is kept replinished, though with the grand feast we had here, I doubt anyone will be hungry and there will always be leftovers." Christae had to wait until the last guest left but she walked down from the head table and went to talk to a few of her friends. She asked that a few of them take over the charges of dragonriders who had become too drunk to fly the people home. Rhia volunteered to take three of the families home.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rhia saw the holders she had transported making a beeline towards her. "Well guys, I have people to drop off at their homes. I will talk to you guys tomorrow and good luck. My congratulations to you all." She told the new Weyrlings. She could feel Mneith spreading his wings to fly down from the fireheights. He still had his riding straps and her helmet was hooked onto one of his neck ridges.
She strode out of the Lower Caverns, pausing to tell G'han that she would be back later. She had a couple of familys to ferry back and forth because another dragonrider was unable to return his charges. He was too drunk. She settled her first set of holders and gave Mneith the signal to rise. When he was high enough, the brown winked /between./
“To the dragonriders,” R’dan said raising his mug and drinking. He usually didn’t drink but this was a celebration and he knew what his limits were. The brownrider set the mug down and grabbed a meatroll. He kept to himself for rest of the hatching watching the families and Weyrlings with a smile. When Christae silenced the group and wished them a goodnight he went to find the family he’d brought to the hatching. He was also assigned to take one other Holder home.
-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
Bluerider B’gin did not seem to know his limits, however. “To the dragonriders,” he roared louder than most except for those drunker than him. He downed another mug of beer, wiping his mouth with a sleeve. Once Christae was done with her end of the Hatching Feast speech he got to his feet to leave. He wobbled on his feet slightly before falling back into his chair. B’gin lay his head on the table and fell asleep.
-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
B’kin raised his mug and replied, “To the dragonriders!” The weyrling scratched Ronoth’s eyeridges, ~Don’t fall asleep we’ll be leaving soon enough.~ ~I’m not asleep, I couldn’t fall asleep there’s too much noise,~ replied Ronoth who kept his eyes closed. Christae announced the end of the feast and B’kin got to his feet and Ronoth slowly to his. He caught sight of his brother falling back into his chair, and sighed. It probably wouldn’t be wise to send him home while intoxicated; he might be able to make it between. The weyrling searched for the nearest sober dragonrider of the Weyr. It turned out to be the Weyrwoman, Christae. He approached her cautiously, he bowed his head and said, “Uh… Weyrwoman. I was wondering if there was some place that he,” B’kin nodded over to his snoring brother, “could stay for the night, I don’t think it’s safe for him to try and return home.” B’kin stared down at his boots embarrassed about his brother, why’d he have to get so drunk? Why’d he only care for himself?
Christae turned when she heard the young rider's voice. She smiled to give him a bit of assurance. When he asked about the sleeping man with bluerider knots.
"Drunk isn't he?" She said, not unkindly. "I will get someone to carry him. He can stay in one of the empty ground floor weyrs. Not to worry lad. Is he related to you?"
She remembered the boy introducing himself as B'kin. Kaith supplied the dragonet's name as bronze Ronoth. "And how is Ronoth? Did you enjoy the feast?"
“Thank you Weyrwoman,” B’kin grinned. When she asked if they were related he nodded, “He’s my brother… B’gin,” he admitted. Ronoth nudged him when the Weyrwoman asked about him. ~Tell her I am tired but I enjoyed the feast,~ B’kin shook his head and relayed the message to the Weyrwoman, “The feast was fun, though I’m glad that we don’t have feasts everyday. I couldn’t eat this much everyday…”
Aureth walked to Ruanth and Hydrath and sat by him. He gave a loud yawn and looked up at D'ran who was equally tired. As Nike, K'dan, and their dragons walked away he jogged after them. "Hold up," he said and walked with them. ~You are tired, aren't you.~ [glow=blue,2,300]Yes.[/glow] "I need to fing a good Barrack anyway," he said.
~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
Kia smiled but soon she frowned. Most had gone and she could still not find Kylath. She heard a loud clank of, pans, perhaps? As the place was nearly empty a large dragon wobbled out of the kitchen. [shadow=red,left,300]Mine, why do you look like that?[/shadow]Kia kept staring at the dragon for it wasn't Kylath, was it? This dragon did not have the familiar copper color. It was a pure white with maybe one or two specks of the orginal color. Kia just continued to stare, unsure of what happened and what to do.
Miya was about to leave because Reinath was constantly complaining about going to sleep, when she heard a loud bang. She walked over to where the sound came from and saw the white dragon. "What is that?!" She asked aloud. That is Kaylath but something is different. Is the clumsy hide sick? Reinath asked curiously. ~That is Kaylath?!~ She questioned her bonded. ~Well that would explain the copper spots.~ She nodded looking at the whitish dragon.
---------------------------------------------------
Nira quickly left for she hadn't slept much the night before and was very tired.
Christae nodded. "I figured you knew him well, otherwise you would not have worried. I am glad you enjoyed yourself Ronoth. I agree B'kin, I wouldn't be able to handle a feast a day."
Christae jumped and turned to see what was going on when she heard the bang of pots from the Kitchens.
"What on Faranth's green Pern is that?"
I think it is the young Copper. Kaith said, looking through her chosen's eyes. Christae's eyes widened when she saw the white and copper aparition. She burst out laughing as the Headwoman came out brandishing a long cooking spoon after the young dragonet.
Nike nodded and got up, Ruanth following after her. The young Weyrling let out a yawn as she, K'dan, and the two dragons walked out into the bowl "It is so nice out tonight!" Nike said twirling around a bit. "I can only thin how I will sleep tonight." She said sleepily.
Ebbeth snickered and said [glow=blue,2,300]I suppose a comment from me won't make you feel better about that predicament, would it?[/glow]. "Kia, I think your dragonet did something in the kitchen that probably wasn't appreciated" Akki said as Ebbeth turned his attention to the copper, wondering what she did. "B'kin, you have an interesting family. I do not know if I am envious, or glad that I rarely see my brother"Akki said as she watched B'gin slump in his seat, his head on the table in a deep slumber. [glow=blue,2,300]I am glad you do not drink that much, at least I think you don't[/glow] Of course I don't, but he has a right to. His brother Impressed She reminded him.
K'dan looked over to Nike, "Yes it is a beautiful night". He looked at the sky then back to her and grinned. Back home he had hardly any friends. Now he had another friend. Though this was his first real friend that was a girl. T'rin and G'han were both guys. They were ok to hang around and pal around with but he seemed a bit more comfortable around Nike, she seemed to have a more calming prescence than the other two.
T'rin finished his meal, having had a rather disappointing evening. Miya had hardly talked to him, and neither had K'dan or K'rael, really. Of course his "family" wasn't here; it wasn't as if they cared. He finished the celebration with a downhearted air. The only good thing that had happened to him was Amparath, who was sleeping curled up under the table. He admired the dragonet's dark, burnished bronze hide and large size. He sighed happily at the bronze and nudged him gently with both hand and mind.
~Mine, we must go. Almost all the other riders have gone off to bed.~
Amparath was a bit grumpy as he woke. I was sleeping. I do not want to move. This is comfortable and quiet. He shifted only slightly.
~I can't carry you. If you don't move, I'll have to leave you here.~
At this, Amparath finally pulled himself upright. Alright, alright. I am moving. He ambled alongside his sad rider, too tired to notice T'rin's unhappiness as they made their way to the weyrling barracks.
“Though I don’t particularly like him, he’s my brother and I couldn’t let him get lost between” B’kin said. He began to wonder what would’ve happened to B’gin if he hadn’t said anything. Would he have spent the night slumped over the table? Or worse try returning home without a clear picture of his destination?
“Thank you Weyrwoman,” he said again with another bow. He heard Akki’s comment, he would’ve preferred his brother not coming though perhaps his showing up proved that he did care a bit about him.
“I don’t if I should say thanks or what, I guess I have an interesting family, I really don’t know. I definitely shouldn’t be the one looking after him this much; he’s the eldest. I don’t know your brother and I don’t want to insult him, but if he’s anything like B’gin I would be glad that he’s not around everyday. Hopefully B’gin will be well enough to go home tomorrow…”
Ronoth nudged him, ~Look at the copper one,~ he said eyes whirling with amusement. B’kin searched for Kia’s Kylath, ~I don’t see her, only a white dragonet being yelled at by the Headwoman with a spoon.~ Where was Nike, her Ruanth was getting in trouble. ~The white IS Kylath, she made a mess. Ronoth said, walking over to see just what Kylath had gotten on herself.
You are getting into to much trouble. Stop playing around like a firelizard you clumsy copper hide. Reinath glared at Kylath. Mine, I wish to go to bed. NOW! The gold demanded, ignoring anything that the copper through back at her. ~Fine, but you will have to stop bosiing me around. I am older and unlike you I can survive without me, so I think you should treat me with more respect. I am not a drudge, I am your mine, and you out to honor that!~ She said angrily, not even sure what she really said. The words just sort of exited her brain. The two stormed off angrily living everyone else in there tracks.
Nike and K'dan had already walked out when D'ran caught up. He heard them comment on the stars and he sighed as he looked up. Aureth was jogging slugishly behind. [glow=blue,2,300]Mine, I am so tired. Can we go to sleep?[/glow] ~We are.~ Aureth happily grinned and caught up to Ruanth and Hydrath. [glow=blue,2,300]Hello[/glow] D'ran stood next to Nike and quietly said, "Every night's beautiful in it's own way. As dangerous as it can be, even the Red Star is lovely." He smiled at them so his words wouldn't seem to be /too/ philosophical. D'ran wasn't really too serious of a person. Of course, he could focus but when he didn't have to he liked to actually live life. He heard a racket inside but waited to see if the others had heard. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ Kia gasped when she realized this /was/ Kylath. As she tried to take another breath in, though, she felt something constricting her chest and she could not expand her chest. She saw as two Kylath stared worriedly at her and two Reinath glared angrilly at the clumsy dragon. She took a step back but lost her balance and fell to the ground, banging her head and laying unconcious. Kylath ran up and glared at Kia, not understanding what happened. [shadow=red,left,300]It is not time to sleep, Mine.[/shadow]
G'han said goodbye to K'dan and watched him walk off with Nike. "I think K'dan has made another friend", he said to Rhia pointing to K'dan and Nike. He heard Kia fall and saw her laying unconscious. He ran to her and picked her head off the ground. He rubbed his hand behind her head to make sure she wasn't bleeding. No blood but he did find a knot on the back of her head. "Quickly somebody. Kia hit her head pretty bad", he shouted to anyone who could hear. He would just go and get Nike but she was tired. He asked someone to go get another healer to take a look at her.
Nike smiled at K'dan. "Yeah, in Southern Boll, you could see the stars so well." She said twirling around a bit. The healer grinned as D'ran caught up with them. "Yeah it is. Good thing that we live in an Interval. I think it's in like 65 Turns when the next Pass will come." She said looking at the glowing red orb in the night sky. Amazing, something so beautiful, was so deadly.
Ruanth nodded at the blue when he got up. Hello. She said very sleepily.
