"The Traveler!"
The next youth to enter was dressed in a costume that seemed to put him out of place for a different reason. His outfit was comprised entirely of two colors: dark blue, and white. He had on a dark blue cloth hat with his hair stuffed up into the hat so that none of his hair showed. He had a simple white cloth mask with eye holes cut into it tied around the top part of his face, and another piece of white cloth tied around the bottom so that his entire face was hidden by the white cloth - the knots from tieing the cloth on here hidden under his hat.
He also wore a dark blue long-sleeved shirt, and dark blue pants. Around his waist was a white piece of cloth acting as a belt, contrasting along with the white cloth gloves he wore. On his feet were white cloth 'slippers', though unlike most slippers this pair had no traction on them, and was actualy just a piece of cloth tied around his feet.
As he stood there being introduced he couldn't help but feel a bit awkward under the scrunity of the room, and after a quick nod given to the room after his introduction he was stepping quickly away from the door and ducking into the generally-taller crowd. As he stepped through the people he felt his eyebrows rising a bit at the sight of the costumes. "Wow," he said to himself, "I can't help but feel a little underdressed."

“Heaven’s Cloud!”
Clad in a pure white, another body entered the room. The outfit revealed the persons waste-line before flooding out at the waist. Instantaneously the words ‘wedding dress’ would come to a person’s mind. It was only fitting that a mask equally as white covered her eyes, the material surrounded in a noticeably detailed lace. In a silver thread a dragon was stitched into the dress, expanding from the girl’s stomach to her back, the creature curving right around her side. The head of the dragon on her stomach was quite detailed also, the faceted eyes done in an array of colors. The poof of the dress made quick movement more so difficult, plus the train of the dress dragged behind her, needing a person or two to pick it up. The wearer of the dress felt a bit silly, white gloves going up to her elbows. Her hair was tightly bound up on her head; blue clips here and there too keep the intricate braids in place.
She too glanced about like the others, perhaps to find a dance partner of her own, or perhaps to simply find a place where she could be comfortable standing? She nervously made her way across the dance floor, holding-up the front of her dress. These kinds of events rarely interested her, but when no one knew who you in fact were, she found that exceptions could be made. Was she too overdressed, underdressed? These thoughts weighed heavily on her mind. Her mind went to beverages. Perhaps if she headed towards the back of the room she wouldn’t be approached. She only hoped she could be so lucky.
She patted down her dress once she’d arrived at the table, looking over the food that was conveniently on trays around the available beverages. Unsure if she wanted to eat anything or not, somewhat afraid of getting something on her dress; she simply stood there awkwardly.

The green dragon watched with interest as others seemed to pour in endlessly. Nearly everyone wore intricate costumes, it was clear that people had spent alot of their time making their outfits. It was difficult to tell who was who for some people, the girl was having troubles trying to identify the ones she knew from strangers. She placed three fingers on her lips, staring at the door to see who would come in next.
She turned quickly when the Canine's voice reached her and a thin smile spread out on her face as the man sat down beside her. She nodded her head in complete agreement and replied. Her voice was a bit louder than a whisper, and seemed to have almost an entrancing tone to it. "It's look nothing like how it's supposed to. Those who helped decorate it, they deserve a standing ovation." She said with a soft smile towards the Canine. The masquerade was making the Weyr buzz to life, no one wanted to miss out on this event. "I like your outfit." The woman added, as if an afterthought.

Her gown was a pale, silvery grey that fell along her body in a sinuous line. Her every curve was outlined, but not so tightly that it showed every part of her well-endowed body. The gown flared out at the bottom to give the impression of fabric fins. Her hair had been pulled back and cascaded from a point at the top of her head. It was hard to tell what her natural color had been because, of course, her hair had been dyed or painted with natural colors to appear silvery. Soft curls fell over her nearly bare shoulder. Her mask left her eyes in shadow and resembled the smiling face of a shipfish that had, for so many turns been deemed a myth. Her smile was pure mischief, just like the clown of the sea that she impersonated. She moved with a fluid grace, almost as graceful on her feet as the lively creatures she impersonated moved in the water.
The Herald nodded his approval when she appeared at the doorway and leaned close to ask her name over the strains of the Harpers' music.
"The Dolphin" came her lilting response with a light laugh. Her shadowed eyes seemed to sparkle from within her mask, do doubt a trick of the light, but it was hard to tell.
"May I present, The Dolphin"

"The Lake!"
Varying hues of blue walked - glided, actually - into the room after the herald announced her title. The girl wore a light blue dress, one that became darker at the ends of the fabric. It flared out slightly at the waist, and the neckline was low enough to show off a teasing amount of cleavage. Attached to the dress was a train of ruffled fabric, it was a dark blue but it seemed to glimmer whenever the light hit off of it. Due to the color and the shape of the fabric, especially with the extra glimmer on the fabric, it looked like waves were following the girl whenever she walked.
On her arms were gloves of the same blue as her dress that went up to her elbow, where it ended with intricate white lace. The costume was an interesting idea, the woman did resemble a lake. Her mask was a blue blindfold, one that she could still see through. The extra fabric from the blindfold was braided into the girls hair which was let down. She walked gracefully and took a cup of klah off of one of the tables, sipping at it as she looked around.

"Most certainly", said the canine with an air of dignity about him, "Their hard work is well admired." He looked around as the costumed people began pairing off and making their way to dance. "I see the party's well under way", he said as he looked them all over. He then turned to his conversation partner and smiled slightly. "They seem to have the right idea. Care to join me for a dance, lovely Green Dragon?", the canine spoke charismatically and extended his hand gracefully towards her.

“Presenting Brown Dragonet!” The flowing russet brown gown emphasized a figure that was fit but very feminine. Like most of the other women’s dresses, the gown left shoulders and some cleavage bare, but the woman had painted her skin a shimmering brown that almost appeared to be a well-oiled hide. Long sleeves flared out and connected to gossamer wings that flared out when she moved her hands, as if she danced in flight as she walked and moved. The wings were made of a very thin fabric that was so fine it was almost translucent, like a the wings of the fire lizard she impersonated. The membranes were golden. Her mask had the appearance of a brown dragonet. The edges were tipped with gold. A golden belt of fine links graced her slender waist. Gold-trimmed wher-hide slippers, dyed brown graced her feet. She moved into the room, her eyes scanning the people as she lifted her arms slightly to spread her wings.

The green dragon bit her lip as the Canine offered her a dance. "I may trip." She warned him, but it came out as more of an apology than anything else. She reached up and accepted his hand, sending him a smile as she did so. She closed her hand around his own, she would let him lead the way for the entire thing. Less chance of her making an obvious mistake that way. She shook her head in disbelief as she looked around the room, so many people had shown up now. "Everyone's costumes are so well put together." She said, pointing out the obvious.
She placed her hand on the Canine's back - at least she knew that much about dancing. She looked down at the ground for a second, her worst fear was the she would step on the hem of her dress and fall.

The next reveler to enter was certainly interesting. Garbed in brown, similar to the Brown Dragonet that had graced the hall just before him, he was dressed in a color several shades lighter than she. His breeches and vest had an appearance of rough bark, for he was dressed as a skybroom tree.
His short cropped hair was spiked and dyed green. His mask was a molding of bark and leaves as if his hair was the top of the tree and his face and neck were the places where the branches met the trunk. His hands were tinged green and his tan shirt was lined with black and had the appearance of knots like a tree would have. His feet were encased in soft, well-made boots.
"The Skybroom!" the Herald called, trying not to laugh. The reveler gave the Herald a jaunty salute and moved into the room. He made a beeline for Heaven's Cloud.
"Gentle lady, I would be honored to know your name. I am, for tonight, The Skybroom. I do believe you would be most graceful on my arm in the dance, if I may be so bold?" He bowed low, taking her hand and kissing it.

"The Mad Hatter!"
The next person to enter was also unpredictable so far as if it was a man or woman. The person's face was done in pure white, with the eyes surrounded in black, almost as if they were dripping black tears of blood. He or she walked into the room and took a grand bow, making enough commotion so that everyone would turn and see them.
The person's hair was mostly hidden under a large black top hat, but that which did stick out was enhanced so that it looked a bright red in coloration, and framed their face in waves of hair. Stunning and yet eerie, this person walked into the room bowing to the left and to the right in grandiose motions, a grin on their face, an almost eerily crazy gleam in their eyes. Attached to their back are large soft brown butterfly wings, though their tips are black and there are golden spots on the wings, which look oddly realistic. The person laughs gaily, but still it is impossible to tell their gender, no matter how one might try.
Their costume is as indecipherable as anything else. A black overcoat to a white dress shirt, though underneath they wear white gloves of satin. What is confusing is the bottom half, which looks like it may be a skirt, or the bottom of a Terran trench coat. However, upon closer look it is more like a skirt, and the person walks over to the Traveler first, laughing and winking before heading to the Heaven's Cloud. Once there, they pull up the skirt to reveal there is a butterfly tattoo on the upper leg, though the leg is clad in fishnets and the underside of the 'skirt' reveals black lace all underneath. There are long tight boots that go up just below the knee, black and shiny looking. Then, there is a sort of silken stocking underneath the boots that is white with a black top to it, with flowers and butterflies down it in black.
The lips of the person are in black, and in their hand is a pole with a butterfly mask atop it, identically matching the one on their back in a smaller version, eye holes cut into it in slants so that you can hardly see the eyes save for their bright color beneath the mask, and they seem to be laughing at everyone. Then, they speak, but their voice is as indistinguishable as the rest, as they address the Heavens Cloud gaily. "One would like to dance with you, for you are as lovely as can be. Would you do one the honor of dancing with oneself?"

Fire Hawk seemed to have found himself feeling out of place even despite the fact that his outfit wasn't anywhere near as eye-catching as the others. He'd gotten himself a mug of klah and made his way over to one of the tables towards the center of the room. He didn't want to be seen as anti-social, but he wasn't particularly looking forward to just jumping right in and socializing.
When the word of this ball first came around, he thought it might be easier to interact with people when you couldn't tell who they were. On the contrary, he found himself a bit lost without even one familiar face. Fire Hawk leaned back in his chair comfortable, looking around the room at the various costumes and watching as even more people continued to enter. Well! This certainly was quite the turn out.

The canine grinned at his, now, dance partner as he lead her to the floor where the others had started to dance. "I'll be sure to catch you, my dear green dragon", he said with an obvious note of charm. He was someone different tonight, and he would most certainly flirt. Besides, weren't greens known to be flirtatious themselves?
The man looked around the room at all the different costumes with a smile. "Some make me seem out of place. Others obviously put more thought and flair than others", he said simply as he allowed his free arm to wrap around her and rest his hand gently at the small of her back. It would be from there that he would guide her as he started dancing, leading the green dragon through every step. There was no real need for her to worry. He knew enough about dances to lead her in something so simple and as any canine, he would stay alert in hopes of catching her before she may embarrass herself.

"Excuse me friend." The Skybroom said, "But I do believe I asked the lady to dance already. I have yet to hear her reply but surely you must have seen me."
The Skybroom's eyes glittered behind his greenish-brown mask. "My dear lady, who would you choose between us?" He turned his attention to Heaven's Cloud.

"The Night!" The herald cried out after the man whispered the title into his ear.
He was clad in all black, but not just plain black. Different shades. The dress shirt was a calming blue-black color, while the jacket over top was a black mixed with a deep shade of purple. The pants the man wore were a simple black. All over the outfit, was small embroidered silver stars that caught the light and made him shimmer. He truly managed to look like the day fading to the night as stars began to wink into existence.
On top of his head a black hat, with a moon decoration perched on the rim of it. White stones embellished the moon, making it also glimmer. The mans hair was a soft silvery color while his mask was a black piece of fabric that faded into a light gray. At the side of where his eyes would be, was a large and bright star. He tipped his hat to the herald as he walked into the room, roaming eyes hidden behind his mask. Costumed people were dancing already while others were studiously staring at people - trying to decipher who was who. It would be a tricky game to play, trying to disguise yourself.

The Traveler had been walking about at a medium-slow pace, looking over the various costumes. The Mad Hatter, when they were introduced, caught his eye simply because of the odd costume that they had on. He'd been watching without really thinking, and so when the Mad Hatter stepped by him and gave him a wink and a giggle it rather caught him off guard. He stumbled a bit in his steps, turning to look after the Mad Hatter as they - she? - continued to walk. He looked back just in time to see her lift up her skirt and show off her fish-net-clad leg, sending his eyes widening in surprise and setting his feet into another stumble.
Considering his feet were just wrapped in cloth, and the floor was polished to a shine, his feet slid out from underneath him and sent him sprawling onto his back. He did hit his head a bit on the floor, but managed to keep his head up enough that he didn't knock himself out - or draw blood, for that matter. A moment after he'd fallen, The Traveler pushed himself up into a seated position, bringing a hand behind his head to rub at it through the hat. "Freshly polished floor. That would've been good to know before hand."

The green dragon followed the Canine, letting her to be led to the dancefloor. She laughed lightly as she smiled at the man behind the mask. "I'm glad to know that you are a trusty canine then." She supposed since she was behind the mask she could loosen up without risking giving away who she was. She carefully followed his dance steps, watching the hem of her dress with the corner of her eye.
"Don't put yourself down like that." The green dragon replied with a soft frown. "I think your costume is quite the interesting one." She paused for a second, thoughts churning in her head. "As long as you are not a man eating canine." She turned her head as she heard a thump, only to see someone on the floor. "At least I won't be the first one to fall." She laughed quietly, smiling at the Canine.

"Presenting Ocean's Tide"
The woman who entered was garbed in various shades of blue that ranged from a frothy white at her bodice to a deep blue-green at her hem. The dress tapered in a slant from about mid calf on her right leg to fall at her ankle on her left. A small amount of flounce at the hem gave the dress more motion and fell down to her ankle where the dress ended at her calf and was became smaller where the gown fell to her ankle. Her sleeves hugged her arms and followed the same variation of colors as the rest of her gown. Her mask was a shimmering blue edged with silver and set with bright sapphires at the corners of her eyes. Her lips were painted a shimmering, silvery-blue. Her hair had been dyed blue as well, a blue that appeared to have highlights as if the sun were playing upon the water. She wore a silver ring set with a sapphire on her right hand and a tear-drop shaped sapphire graced her throat upon a silver chain.

"Oh, I am quite trusty. I play this part well", he said with a grin as he stepped in turn with her, leading her about the floor. The canine twirled her one good time as he released her back, then pulled her gently back to him and placing his hand back to it's previous position. "I wouldn't worry too much", he said, noting how she eyed her dress. "I've got you", winking as he spoke.
He could only smile as the girl complimented him. "Interesting, yes. But others have done quite well with their costumes, there's no denying that much", he spoke as he pushed himself ever closer to her. A daring move for a daring night such as this. He turned his head slightly, his reflexes as quick as his costume's persona. "Well, well. At the very least, it's an ice breaker, I'd say", he turned back to her with a toothy grin. "Certainly not. It could only be seen now as a trend", he responded to her.

"The Seraphim!"
The next person to enter was clearly female. The first thing one might note is the large golden staff she carries. A large golden dragon is coiled about the top, wings spread protectively over a pure black egg. The gold's tail winds halfway around the staff's length, where it finally ends. Next notable feature is the white wings-not two, but three large wings protruding from the back of the costume. Two are in the normal place while one is sticking out from the middle of her back. Her hair is done up and is wavy around her face, a black circlet is around her head, a black opal stone in the middle of her forehead.
She wears long, shiny looking gloves, much like Terran pleather. They come up to the top of her arms, connecting with the white, light dress she wears. The dress is kept together much by the black corset which is of the same material as the gloves, which goes down back into the short white dress-at least it is short in the front. The back of it is longer, like an overcoat but it is still a part of the dress. She wears a choker entirely of connected black rings, the choker appears to attach to the dress and now you note the the breast area of the dress is not encased in the corset, but that the corset starts underneath them. The black band that attaches the choker to the corset goes between the breasts, connecting on a black ring in the middle of the chest and also crossing another black band horizontally across the upper chest.
Her face, however, is covered in a black ceramic mask, with diamond-like gems trailing from the corners of her eyes down her cheeks, starting larger and then getting smaller as they descend. She spots the Fire Hawk, and walks up to him, asking quietly, "dance with me?" It is half a query, and just a slight bit of demand, as if she will not be denied.

She had to give the Canine credit. He was quite cocky, the mask on his face probably allowed him to be so. Why not act like someone else when no one knew who you actually were? The girls thin smile grew into a coy one. "I'm glad you got me, I think it would be boring if anyone else had." She replied, her voice becoming a little louder than her soft whisper. Green dragons were supposed to be flirtatious, so why not use that as an excuse?
She too took a step closer towards the Canine, leaving no room between them. It must have looked odd, a green dragon and a canine dancing. "We can not deny that. There's not a better way to start a conversation than to fall." She said with another laugh before adding, "However, it's a painful way to do it. So I'm still hoping that I won't." She looked up at the Canine with another grin, "Besides. With the way we're dancing, I think the ice is already broken."
