Laerin sighed when yet another hatchling impressed. She smiled when she saw Calnia impress to a blue. She thought the blue looked to be a bit feminine. She sighed and shook her head. She hoped she would impress this time. She had stood a few times already. And no impression. At the warning from the their Candidate Master, Laerin was the first to move from the entrance of the Hatching Grounds. She didn't want any of the hatchlings to be near the rising water either.

Rhia glanced at the dragonets who had already Impressed. They weren't really in any danger as of right now but they would be if the flood continued. She turned to the drudges and gestured for them to follow her. She led them to the first tier of dragon stands and helped them haul the meat up there.
"Bring your dragonets up here. There is a ramp at the edge. They will be high enough here to stay out of the wet. Drudges are preparing places for them until you can be moved into the Weyrling Barracks and for now we need to keep you all in one place."
Mneith relayed the message to the young dragons.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
There is nothing we can do for now except hope that they will all find their chosens quickly. Kaith said in response to those who had asked about what they could do to help. Some of the eggs were in danger. They would be fine for a little while longer but they would need to hatch soon so that they could be moved out of harm's way.
Soon enough, another green egg started to rock on the sands. This egg was an olive green, with small spots of a muddy brown. The egg stopped moving for a second, before the shell seemed to collapse into hundreds of shards. A small cry erupted from the dragonet as it pushed its way from the graveyard of shells, showing itself to the world. The dragonet was not a green like many would have guessed from the color of the shell, but instead a medium sized brown. His color was that of a tree’s bark after rain, that endless deep brown. The tip of his wings seemed to gradually turned into a rather dark green hue, just enough to be noticeable. The dragonet seemed to have an earth tone to it with his snout being the same green color as his wings were. He shook off any shell that was still clinging to him and threw himself in front of the candidates, staring with churning eyes.
The peridot green beauty scuttled across the sands and wound up taking a tumble and landing in a heap of wings and limbs in front of Laerin. She looked up with her whirling red eyes and the color changed into the rainbows of Impression. Laerin, I have waited so long. I am your Taysith. Will you feed me now Mine?
The little blue that Kaith had nudged finally decided to choose his person out of the Candidates. Since my mother insists that I choose I suppose I will have to come to you since you did not come to me. The saucy little blue's voice sounded in Zyhayr's head. He seemed to be in a bit of a huff as he flounced over to the lad. Z'ayr, will you move yourself and feed me already? Your Dinayth is hungry. His rainbow colored eyes were a contrast to his dark blue and icy blue trimmed hide as he met the eyes of his Chosen.
Even after he'd asked the question about where they would go, J'kiran was distracted from the situation by X'ion's words. He listened to what the other boy had to say; his eyes brightened noticeably at the mention of a letter and a portrait, and he looked as though he were about to reply when they were given directions about where to go. He nodded and directed Kaenith over towards the ramp to go up into the stands, turning as he did so to look at X'ion and finally reply to the conversation at hand.
"I don't think it matters what you're like," he said. "That's what I've always heard family is supposed to work. Everyone's always said that you don't get to choose your family. Well, even if you didn't grow up with them, if they're out there somewhere it's the same way. Even if they're not perfect, just knowing that they're there would be...well..." He took in a breath and let it out for a moment to think. "Going through life and not knowing, having no answers as to who they are or were, if they're dead or living. Why was I left abandoned? Did they simply not want me, or was there more reasoning to that? Was my mother left alone, or was she still with my father a the time I was left there? Did I have any other siblings Admin's Note:
Even half siblings? Or was I their only child?" J'kiran blinked, realizing he was rambling a bit, and tried to reel his words in.
"It's been not knowing that was the most difficult. All I was left with was a bracelet and a short note. Just my name, and a plea to care for me." He smiled in his usually gentle way, a bit of the dejectedness that was in it previously was now gone. "Even if all you have is a letter and a portrait of them, it's still something. That's more than I've ever had."
Khris looked over to Tikal as he came over, pausing in his wall building and blinking at his words. He was confused at first, but as soon as he realized what Tikal was doing he returned to his building with a fervor. "Yeah, that's what I was doing," he said, "Making a sort of barricade around them." When Tikal started pushing the smaller egg up higher onto the sand that was there, he got a further spark of an idea. That was about the time that Kallan came over and asked what else they had in mind.
"Yeah," he said, pushing sand up underneath the larger egg to try and raise the thing without having to actually lift it. The egg was huge, after all! Lifting it wouldn't be that easy. By continuously pushing the sand towards the bottom of the larger egg from all sides, it would - he hoped - make a small island underneath it and the smaller egg. That way, there would be the circular barrier around the eggs, and then in the center of the barrier the eggs would be raised up. If the water did break through, it would buy the eggs a few more seconds as the water filled into the 'moat' around the eggs.
"If we can get them high enough, it might buy them time to hatch," he said to the boy as he continued his work. Already he was wondering how pointless this attempt would be, he could feel a trickle of hot water on his feet and immediately spun around to push sand at the part of the wall that had broken, but the spot was lost. The sand kept falling from the spot as the water trickled in, and the larger egg - lower than the smaller one that was pushed up by Tikal - began to be a bit surrounded towards the bottom. Khris frantically pushed sand at the spot, trying to block the water from hitting the shell. "There's not much else we can do," he said, still trying to stop the water even as he spoke. "It's up to them. Hatch, or..." Khris pushed more sand underneath the larger egg, hoping to keep at least most of the egg out of the water.
Rocking was one thing, but this egg was going at its own speed! Nevermind following along with the rest, using patience to be able to soon break free… The dragonet inside obviously didn’t want to waste any time, or be the last one out, and so as tiny cracks were shown in the side of the egg the fast movement of the egg continued. Soon enough the top of the egg came off. The sides fell away leaving a green dragonet sitting in the bottom section of its shell, snorting hotly while looking to the left and right. She was cute, but cute didn’t necessarily mean she was happy. She preferred her nice cozy egg to the sand sticking to her damp hide but she was too hungry to remain in her egg much longer. She gave a mournful cry of hunger, lowering her head sadly, all anger appearing to be gone for the time-being as hunger took its place. She was a good sized little green with a pretty, jade colored hide marbled with white. The white shimmered with a silvery glow on her wings and a closer look revealed thousands of tiny dots close together along the wing membrane. She tried to step out of her egg shards but she tripped, falling face first into the sand. She righted herself and snorted hotly to try to get the sand out of her nose. Satnee, what are you doing hiding back there? Your Elieth needs you.
The little stormy blue dragonet was alternating between the boys and the girls, trying to figure out which one he wanted. He started to go for the boys and then changed his mind. He dragged his wings in the sand because they had gotten full of sand before they had dried and were heavy for his ungainly frame. Kestrelmine, please help your Nyanth get the sand off his wings! After that can you feed me? His look was deploring as his eyes changed to the colors of Impression when he met the girl's eyes.
J'red watched the hatching with that usual feeling of warmth that most dragonriders get. Remembering their own impressions, remembering themselves standing on the sands. Then, there was a feeling of pride, too, when the Weyr that one called 'theirs' had candidates impressing one by one, adding new Weyrlings and dragons to its ranks. Hikanth remained contemplatively silent throughout most of it. He didn't want to draw J'red's attentions away from what was going on on the sands. That was before the water started seeping in.
*The dragonets had best hatch and impress,* came the worried mental tones of the great bronze, who watched with more than a little concern as those of Kaith's clutch began hurrying to hatch and impress, while others seemed to be moving more slowly.
J'red nodded, saying with a heavy sigh and a shrug, "you're right. But it's not like there's anything you or I can do to assist that. We can neither force them to hatch-or to impress. We just have to do like everyone else and hope for the best." Underneath his words, J'red's eyes were troubled. Seeing the dragonets drown, or eggs left unhatched? It would be worse than seeing one go between. After all, that was quick, and painless. A dragonet drowning, whether in the shell or no? Boiling to death inside an egg? Would that happen, or would they all be hatched and impressed on time? He couldn't fathom having to watch it be otherwise...
~~~~~~
Vyralth was not all that elated about the hatching anymore. Though the blue dragon gave a rather triumphant bugle as each dragonet successfully broke shell and impressed, the blue was in a state of near-panic at the thought of any of the dragonets dying in their shells or on the sands. He kept shifting uncomfortably, and K'tan could tell that his bonded was distressed. Sometimes, he thought that Vyralth felt more strongly than many humans he knew. He placed a reassuring hand on the dragon's neck.
"Vyralth, try not to worry so much. There's time yet, and you don't know that they won't all make it to their lifemates in time. So try and calm yourself." K'tan motioned to the sands, and then added, "even the candidates are doing what they can, see? They will try and be sure the eggs and dragonets are safe."
Vyralth rumbled, a discontented but defeated tone. He knew his bonded was right. There was nothing that could be done for it, and the blue wasn't certain that everything would not turn out just fine. He shifted again and craned his head forwards, watching intently. However, it was then that Priath settled in next to him, and he turned his head to face her. *I and mine fare well enough-it is the dragonets of Kaith we fear for. I trust you and yours are well?* The concern was apparent in the blue's thought speech. He didn't even take a moment to flirt with the pretty green, instead he was too focused on what was going on on the sands below them.
A moment later, K'tan looked over to see Anassa joining him. "Hey there, Anassa. The 'fine blue' is worrying about the clutch," he informed her with a good-natured though concerned smile. "Seems the sands are flooding, slowly but surely-and the waters that flood them will heat up. Did you and Priath only just arrive?" he asked, glancing up at the green who had settled in beside his Vyralth. "The hurricane made it hard for some of us to get here..." he added, trailing off and nodding his head in the direction of a few holders just getting in themselves.
~~~~~~
X'ion followed J'kiran up into the stands after Rhia's instructions. He walked his bronze up the ramp, and settled into a spot further down where J'kiran stopped. He thought it a good idea to be further down like this, so the rest of the candidates could get their dragons up and into the safety of the stands, too. When they were there, however, J'kiran began speaking again.
The explanation was a rather confusing one, though not logically. It was merely that he didn't understand J'kiran's fixation on wanting to know exactly what happened to all his family. On Pern, plenty of families fostered their children out anyways. The fosterlings came to think of their foster parents as their real parents. Often it didn't make an ounce of difference if you got to know your real family or not. However, X'ion did care to know who his parents were, up to a point. It was true he especially treasured the bands and 'choker' band his mother had left to him. But he'd never been told in that note he had that he had a brother. Maybe they hadn't thought that it would be relavant to anything in X'ion's life. Wasn't it, though? Even if his parents didn't want to be a part of his life-even if the note said otherwise-why shouldn't he have known? What if he had, when younger, wanted to know his brother? Well, it was too late to think about 'what ifs' now.
J'kiran obviously wanted some answers. He could give him those answers, if he wanted to. But in doing so, would he give off the impression that he felt at all the same as the other boy? He wasn't sure. However, it didn't quite feel right to withhold those answers, either. And J'kiran had basically just said that he wanted to have a brother, no matter what that person were like. It was true-you couldn't choose your family...
"Well, now you know you've got me. What exactly do you intend to do about it?" X'ion narrowed his eyes, almost feeling sorry for J'kiran at that last. He'd only gotten a note with his name and to care for him? X'ion's note had been long, and had been something he'd had to hold on to. Why hadn't they left J'kiran one? His curiosity grew, as he pondered this, and added, "I guess I could show you what I've got. Isn't much, but I guess it is something. I hear something's better than nothing." He shrugged, looking down at the sands, and then, "you've got your dragon now, anyhow. So have I. You know more than you did, which is that you're not an only child. Don't know if that makes you feel better or worse, though," he said with a wry smirk. He didn't even know if it made himself feel better or worse. It was odd, and uncanny. What were the chances, after all? They'd both transferred here, to Dark Moon. They'd impressed their bronzes at the same time, from the same clutch-and both were bronzes. The only ones that had shown up in the clutch so far. It was rather odd, it was true...it was almost too odd to be coincidence, though what else could you sum it up to?
Azaranth beside him was sticking his head out over the edge, looking at the sands below with apparent concern. Time was of the essence, and time was running out. X'ion and J'kiran had been lucky to impress before the water had even really begun to seep in. What about the others?
~~~~~~
Kaiya was in a mute state of panic. The dragonets attentions had been got by the efforts of the candidates combined, but there were still some on the sands not showing signs of choosing anyone. There were still unhatched eggs. The water wasn't waiting. The sandbags were quite useless at this point. By now, the water was starting to actually rise, above the sand. It was only lukewarm for now, but it had been chilly before it got lukewarm. The sands were heating up the water like a pot put on the fire to boil. Time was running out! She kept up her efforts to keep the dragonets centralized. So far, only the middle of the sands was least affected. Like a little island in the middle of the moderately fast-rising waters, it was the only 'safe haven'. It wouldn't be for long. The brown and the minty green who'd been among the first to hatch were the red-haired girl's primary concerns. They weren't impressing. Their clutchmates, one after the others, had impressed. She was almost frustrated, because there were one or two Candidates who weren't even here yet! She bit her lower lip and called to the dragonets, "hurry and impress, you silly things! The water is rising!" She had a feeling her words wouldn't even phase the pair, though. What would happen to them if they didn't impress?
She glanced over to see Tikal and Khris and another boy she recognized from Candidate lessons piling up sand around the two eggs that were in the most danger. Only their efforts was keeping the water from the pair. Tikal had seemingly taken charge of barricading the small one, while the other two boys were working on the larger one. She felt sick to her stomach, as the sand beneath her toes began to grow wet...
~~~~~~
Tikal was working away non-stop with the egg that he'd been trying to keep above the rising waters. They were near the edge, the water was past their ankles. Luckily it was only lukewarm, but he had no beliefs that it would stay that way. No-it would only get hotter. Eggs in hot water? They boiled. He continued piling up sand, rythmatically packing on handful after handful. With the smaller egg, it wasn't that hard to build up his sand pile. He was relieved when Khris suddenly got another boy appearing to help him with the bigger egg. It was a lot bigger, and Tikal had begun to worry he'd have to divert his attention to the other egg soon. Didn't the dragonets inside these shells sense that something was wrong? He wasn't sure, but they would either hatch, or face the ultimate consequence. One that no dragonet or anyone, for that matter, deserved.
His head churned, as he pondered their options. How heavy could the little egg be? The big one looked fairly heavy. How many Candidates would it take to roll it, though? He looked around. There were enough still unimpressed to do it. But was it a smart idea? If the water kept rising, they'd need to move whatever eggs remained or they'd die. The only place relatively safe was the middle ground. Even that wouldn't be safe for long. He was playing a waiting game. He didn't like it one bit...
~~~~~~
Kestrel had been so occupied with helping Kaiya keep the dragonets centralized, that she didn't even notice when one came up to her. She hardly noticed because she was trying to keep the new brown that had hatched within the center of things. The voice entered her mind, and she turned, eyes wider than saucers. There was a dragonet. He was looking at her, and she at him. She stopped, frozen in place, as their eyes met and impression occured. Of course, standing there in stupification was not something Kestrel usually did. A girl of action when it was needed, she was quite ill used to feeling shocked out of her wits. Did she just impress?
The question swirled in her head, and she nodded stupidly in reply to her own question, staring still at the stormy blue dragonet who was looking straight back at her. He'd asked something-what was it again? Sand...wings...okay...she just stood there and stared. The stormy little blue was quite confused as to why his chosen was standing and staring, and not getting the sand off of his wings like he'd asked her to.
*Why do you just stand there, mine? My wings, they are full of sand. I am hungry, and you are not even moving!* His tone was distressed, and it seemed to snap the stupified girl out of her dreamlike state.
"S-sand. Your wings. Okay, yeah, sorry. I can do that, for sure..." She reached over gingerly, as if afraid the dragonet might disappear on her, and then began gently brushing the wet sand off the blue's wings, only speeding up when she noted the water that was rising all around them. There were drudges, holding big bowls of meat, and she was done brushing off the blue's wings-Nyanth, he'd called himself. She led him to the drudge, who passed her the bowl but ushered her up into the lower stands, where she saw J'kiran and X'ion, who'd impressed the two bronzes. Impressed...like she'd just done. The realization was too much for the girl to handle.
She'd been watching others impress, and hoping she might too. But she was also so caught up in helping the dragonets find their bondeds, that she'd forgotten, for the time being, that she was a Candidate there too! Forgotten, and then impressed this lovely little blue. A soft smile crossed her features, as she began feeding the hungry dragonet. He seemed sensible enough to not entirely wolf down the food as fast as some, though it was obvious he was very hungry. She could only sit in silence, however. She'd just impressed.

J'kiran blinked once at X'ion's response. He stared for a moment, and then his expression warmed into a smile as he realized the undertone of what X'ion had just said. The fact that 'he had him now' could only mean one thing. "As soon as this storm is finished with itself and everything calms down, I intend to write a letter home to tell my parents what I've been up to all this time." He smiled at X'ion once more, his smile being more of a calm sort than most boys his age. "They'll be thrilled to hear all the news I have for them."
The youth listened as X'ion spoke some more, and he smiled again when X'ion gave the first show of positive emotion he'd seen in the boy so far. A smirk wasn't exactly a smile, but it was more of a smile than a frown was. "I'd love to see what you have," he said. "Knowing anything more than I do now would be wonderful. Even just knowing what they look like." J'kiran felt a sudden flurry of unease come from the bronze resting by his side, and he looked over to Kaenith.
Mine, I'm worried about my clutch-siblings. They're not all finding Theirs, and some of them aren't even hatched yet! J'kiran softened his gaze at the dragonet's words and ran his fingers reassuringly along Kaenith's eye ridges.
I'm sure they'll be fine, my heart. he replied. The other candidates are doing all they can to entice your siblings to hatch and impress. The water isn't going too quickly, they still have time to get out of there. He looked over to the edge of the stands then, able to see a bit of the scene still unfolding through the railing. "I certainly hope they all make it," he mused out loud. He was having a strange mixture of emotions stirring around in his chest. Worry for the hatching's progress was mixing with joy and excitement at the aspect of just having found out he had a brother. The joy did win out for a bit longer though as he turned to look over at who was coming and caught sight of Kestrel.
J'kiran smiled as she came towards them, lifting a hand to wave. "Congratulations, Kestrel!" he called to her over the chatter around them. When he brought his hand down he motioned towards the bronze at his side who was now looking with interest towards the girl and the blue dragonet. "I'll introduce you to my heart, Keanith, and...to my brother, X'ion, and His." As he spoke the smile along his face grew a bit; he did have to admit that he was looking forward to seeing her reaction to this news. He wondered if she, having known him since they were both very young, would be as surprised as he'd been.
- - -
A bit more working at the sand around and under the larger egg, and Khris was satisfied with what they'd managed to pull together. The moat of sorts around the larger egg was deep enough to keep back the small amount of water that got through the barrier, and he was patting at the sides of the barricade of sand that they'd made as the finishing touches. It was tall enough already for awhile yet, the water wasn't anywhere near high enough to go over the top, and with the last layer he was putting on it would take some time for the water to erode away the sand as well - Khris, of course, had made sure to step outside the barrier of sand before making it tall enough, considering his height (which was so kindly pointed out to him not so long ago).
At any rate, if the water started tearing at the sand barricade, none of the candidates were so far away that it couldn't be fixed. Khris gave a lopsided smile and nodded. For now, at least, this egg was safe. The smile fell away from his face. "Now all this one has to do is hatch," he muttered, looking around the sands to see what else was going on. There were still a few egg straggling about, but none of them seemed to be in immediate danger. A few candidates had just impressed, and it looked like the ones left could use some help in keeping the dragonets occupied at the safety of the center.
Khris noticed as he jogged towards the center that the water wasn't nearly as deep as it had seemed near the very edge of the hatching sands. As he walked the water level barely made it over the top of his foot, and when he'd reached the center the sand there was just starting to get damp. "Right," he said, pushing himself out of his thoughts on the water and looking to the few dragonets wandering about. "I think it's about time you guys find who you're looking for and get off the sands."
- - -
Tanwen was content in staying towards the center of the hatching sands. She'd do her part enough, walking around the outer edge of the designated 'safe zone' and trying to wave the dragonets back towards the center for them to choose from the remaining candidates. She looked over towards Zuhayr when the blue made hsi way towards the boy. When it was clear that an impression had been made she gave a quick nod in acknowledgments. She figured she should do at least that since she knew the kid's name. He wasn't' nearly as annoying as Leander was, and there was no chance of Zuhayr trying to talk his way into Tanwen's pants.
[Ahah. Poor Tanwen's is so short xD]

Laerin had been watching the peridot green hatchling. Though she didn't know if she would impress or not. Her eyes went wide when the little green came running in her direction. Laerin flinched, physically, when the little green took a tumble and wound up at her feet. Laerin knelt beside the little green and helped the dragonet to her feet. Laerin gasped at the voice in her head. It was so soft and gentle. Like a cool morning breeze. "Of course I'll feed you Taysith!" She wrapped her arms around the green briefly and then stood up and led her lifemate to where the buckets of meat were.

Zuhayr joined the others, flapping his arms as he headed towards the middle. “Come on, go to the middle. If you don’t, I’ll tell you have a horrible fashion sense.” Zuhayr said loudly, using the biggest threat he knew of which really wasn’t all the scary. He looked around, seeing if the dragonets would follow their herding into the safer area. Since my mother insists that I choose, I suppose I will have to come to you since you did not come to me. Entered the boys head, sound almost annoyed at the fact Zuhayr made no effort to come over there.
The flamboyant boy looked down at the small blue and blinked before rubbing the back of his head. “Yeah, well. You got to tell me next time to come over to you.” Zuhayr sniffed at the dragon, his brain barely comprehending the fact that he had just Impressed. It fully sank in when he could hear Akki and his family cheer loudly from the stands, where he flashed a quick lopsided smile before taking Dinayth towards the others who had Impressed. He supposed he had to think of himself as Z’ayr now, which slightly threw him off. Also, there’s sand stuck onto me. I do expect you to get this off, you know. Dinayth pointed out, causing to Zuhayr to groan slightly as he fed the small dragonet some meat. It was only to clear that Dinayth was going to care quite a bit about his looks. Z’ayr couldn’t complain too much either, he too cared too much about what he looked like that day and whether or not his clothes made him look fat.
He looked over at Tanwen as the blue daintily picked at the meat in his hand, and grinned at the girl. Z’ayr was almost positive that Tanwen had figured out his preference in guys, since he really wasn’t exactly hiding it. Z’ayr looked up as Laerin came near with her new dragonet, a pretty little green. “Hey, congrats.” Zuhayr said with a grin. “The color of her hide is really fab.” It was more than likely his overuse of the word ‘Fab’ that made it obvious of his flamboyancy.
---
Hasima dropped Akki’s arm, clapping as loudly as she could when she saw that Kestrel had Impressed a blue. She was quite thankful, for she probably would have been crushed if Kestrel hadn’t Impressed. The girl was her best friend, after all. Hasima glanced at Akki, who had her fingers in her mouth as she whistled loudly. There were some new female blue riders now, and the woman was glad for it. Them and herself could relate to each other now.

Shino approached, nervous. As he came up to the bowl. He was nervous out of his mind. He had only impressed two other times other than this, and that was when he was a bit younger too... He watched the sands softly and watched other candidates impress. He was worried, that he wouldn't get a dragonet, however, something reassured him that it wasn't the end of the world if he didn't.
As he watched the dragonets, he blinked, hoping he would impress. Shino knew that almost everyone in the weyr was here for this, so he knew at least one person recognized him, he hoped that wasn't the case though. ' I'm so nervous...' he said to himself in his mind, watching. 'my first stand for a hatching at this weyr.... and I was late...'

Priath glanced from the blue to the hatchlings. They do not realize the danger. They are scared but instead of finding their Chosens quickly some of them are panicking. I hope they do not go *between.* Anassa and I are well. Priath responded to the blue.
"Priath and I were stuck in our weyr until the eye hit. We had a holder family to fetch and then headed back here. We were getting back right when the weather was starting up again. I do hope we don't lose any dragonets. Things are getting bad fairly quickly. Thank Faranth they decided to hatch today. If they had waited one more day the entire clutch would have been lost!"

OOC: abean, you mentioned Lord in the post, no God in Pern just a reminder Color code is 827839
IC:
The bark colored brown wasn't dallying like some of his siblings. As another egg finally began to crack open he made a beeline for the boy that had just entered the sands. He had waited long enough and his chosen had still kept him waiting.
Sh'no, you have kept your Belyth waiting for so long. Why were you not here for me when I hatched? Please feed me now. I don't like the wet.

The egg that had begun to hatch while Belyth was heading towards his chosen lad finally finished cracking open. This dragon was about the size of a brown, but he was the most masculine-looking green that had ever hatched. This dragon was sturdy. This green was also a male. His olive colored hide was edged with black along the wings and black and brown speckles darkened the membranes of his wings. The rest of his hide was a handsome solid olive green that glistened wetly in the dim light of the cavern. A piece of egg shell was sticking to his nose and he snorted trying to get it off. He was going to be a typical male and a bit of a womanizer as well, though in a dragon sense. He would flirt with all of the pretty female dragons that came his way and be smooth about it.
L'der, please help get this piece of egg shell off your I look ridiculous. After that I would like you to feed me. I am your Mkinth.

Kallan winced, "You sure we can't ..." the sentence ended in a very unmanly whine as he shook his hands, smattering sand everywhere. His attention was focused on the water coming closer to the eggs though. This was so unlike Kallan. Everything was cut and dry, with a little misplaced enthusiasm to boot. He was struck by indecision and couldn't do much more than try to push sand under an egg and keep glancing at the water with a sense of hopelessness.
He watched Khris walk back to the circle and stuffed some more sand under the egg before joining him. The guy was right, not much more he could do. At least he did something? He wouldn't have what ifs later on tonight about it. With a firm nod he gazed around at the other eggs and noticed others had Impressed. Well, at least that was dandy, eh? He clapped for them and managed even to smile.
~~~~~~
Satnee, what are you doing hiding back there? Your Elieth needs you. Satnee's head snapped up. Oh no! Satnee couldn't be going crazy, only crazy people heard voices in their head. And there was no way that she had just Impressed. She was smart and intelligent. She had skills! She was a drudge for Faranth's sake! Only Candidates Impressed. Didn't that Shardin' dragonet know better? It's supposed to go for the ones in white.
Come over here and feed me, Mine. You Elieth hungers. She shook a leg daintily, And clean me too, this sand iches.
Satnee shook her head and placed her hands on her ears. She didn't want a dragon. Yes, her mother had been a green rider, but that wasn't supposed to be Satnee's life. I'm meant for better than this. I-I was going to do great things someday. Maybe even join the Harpers for better learning. I'm not a dimglow rider.
Elieth snorted, Of course not, I picked you. I wouldn't want a dimglow taking care of me. Now will you come over here? Nevermind, I'll just come to you. You're closer to the food anyway. I hunger, Mine. Elieth immediately made her way over to Satnee and butted against her pestering her nonstop for food.
Satnee gave in with a huff. After all the thing would shut up if she fed it, right? She'd feed it and figure out her next step then. She'd heard the lessons, she couldn't get out of this no matter how much she wanted. And oh how she wanted. Her whole life reorganized, Satnee walked over to her former co-workers for a bowl of meat. She ignored the sly looks and giggles barely suppressed by her friends.
Look if you're just going to give me one piece at a time you could just set the bowl down. I could finish it in a candlemark. I'm ichy right now and the sooner you're done feeding me the sooner you'll clean me so hurry it up!
Satnee glared at the arrogant green. Why did she have to have a green? Why any color for that matter. She huffed, As much as I would like you to just gorge yourself and disappear from my life. You're my resposibility, which means I have to make sure you don't gobble down your food and hurt yourself. Now calm yourself, you're already halfway through anyway. She jumped back a little when Elieth tried to make her point by snapping up the next piece. I can just stop feeding you now until you learn manners! When Elieth finally settled down a little Satnee resumed feeding the little monster.
~~~~~~~~~~
Sorcha clapped as each pair Impressed. She noted quite a few of the greens were really pretty this Hatching. Prettier than me? She glanced back at the mutant and smirked, Eh, a lot of girls have greens. I suppose I'm happy you picked me. But you just barely beat that little peridot. I swear, if she had a little star on her back...well.... Sorcha laughed when the dragon snorted and pretended not to notice anything else she said. Oh, come on! By the first egg you can be vain. Probably as vain as those green'll turn out anyway. Or maybe a gold. She added slyly, noting the Moonstreak turned back towards her. I can beat any Gold any day

Marletta was feeding Issaeyith the last bit of meat from the bowl watching the boys began trying to build a barrier. She hoped that it would work, should it come to that. Could the unhatched dragons sense the danger? She did not hear Rhia speak.
Issaeyith nudged her rider Mine, Mneith says we must move to the stands.
The only reason they would be moved to the stands was if Rhia feared the worst. The sandbags and barrier that the boys were making would not do any good. Issaeyith nudged her rider up the ramp. We cannot do anything mine, they will find their mines like I find you. For just being hatched Issaeyith already had a lot of insight, were all dragons like this?
Marletta sighed and rested a hand on Issaeyith’s back as they made their way into the stands. At this time Kaz appeared from between near the sandbags. The little brown inspected the bags then sped to Marletta chittering frenziedly. There he spotted the Issaeyith, cocking his head to the side he inspected the green before darting under the wavy brown curtain of Marletta’s hair. She placed a hand on the still excited brown trying to sooth the little beast and hide him lest he not be allowed. The girl glanced out onto the sands where she saw Zuhayr and the blue.
For a moment, her hopelessness dissipated as Zuhayr impressed. She was glad that the boy impressed but she was also glad that another dragon had safely found his mine. Marletta and smiled and clapped for him, when he got closer she said, “Congratulations…” she paused for a moment trying to figure out how his name would have been shortened “…Z’ayr. What is his name?”

Shino, now Sh'no, looked around, trying to place where the voice was coming from, he didn't know who or where it came from. He thought he was halucinating. He then looked down and saw the brown dragonet. He blinked, still nervous and locked eyes with the dragon, curious, but still as nervous as he would ever be. I'm sorry, Belyth. he replied, slightly confused as to what had just happened. He didn't think that he had just impressed.
Sh'no... feed me... I'm starving over here... You shouldn't have kept me waiting. I'm seriously very itchy, and the faster you get me fed, the faster I can get this irritating sand off my body; it's really beginning to annoy me.
Sh'no rubbed his head, sighing, now he knew what he was in for... This was going to be quite an adventure for him... Being a rider and all. Okay... Let's get you fed.... And cleaned... Sh'no said, leading the bark brown dragon up the ramp and towards the drudges.
Sh'no set a bowl in front of Belyth, sitting down and watching silently as the brown began eating ravenously, apparently he was very, very hungry. Once he was done, he lifted his head, licking his maw, looking at Sh'no, who had raised an eyebrow, surprised.
Sh'no... will you please get me cleaned now, it's really beginning to bug me. Please? Belyth asked, more pleading now, apparently trying to scratch the itch, this time Sh'no just chuckled. Of course, Belyth, of course... He said to him, leading him to get cleaned.

R'xis didn't want it to be true, the thought of the dragonet's drowning not being something that he was willing to imagine. Rather, he looked over at R'yo determinedly. "The dragonet's will be fine, don't you worry. The Candidate's are working down there to keep them safe, and as we speak they're both hatching and impressing. Just you wait and see, there's nothing to fear." He couldn't help thinking he sounded a bit ridiculous with the whole: "Nothing to fear," bit but he hadn't been sure on how to reassure both boy and dragonet. He looked over at Wolf, realizing that R'yo was still holding on to his sister's hand. Ersith was too busy watching to make sure the dragonet's hatched safely to pay any attention to the trio.
"Y-yah," Wolf stuttered, looking to her hand in R'yo's before the boy finally slipped his hand out of her grasp. She put the same hand to her pendant, her fingers drawing over the dragon's form. "What my brother said, everything will turn out for the better. I wouldn't worry about it until it becomes necessary to worry about." She too was at a loss for what to say, its not as if there worrying about it was going to change anything, unfortunately. Little brown, your Clutchmates will be all right, Serinth sent to Resith, adding in a rumble of encouragement. She turned her eye on him, not wishing him to fear for the safety of the others. "So... R'yo," Wolf started off, by way of changing the subject, "Is impression everything you'd thought it'd be?" she asked. She knew about how many questions the boy had asked before pertaining to what impression was like, and now he knew.

Tieler knew that Raska was right, one of those dragonet's could be their's. "I doubt I'm going to impress if I haven't already," she blurted out angrily, "and I really could care a less about impressing anyhow" she lied. She watched Khris go off to try and create a barrier around the unhatched eggs. "Look at him, playing hero, like he'll be able to make a difference. He'll drown before the eggs do," she snorted. Tieler continued to play at his shortness, not caring if she hurt the boys feelings. He was short, that's all there was too it, and he was too much of a sap. Trying to make the best out of everything, who does that? she thought. She shook her head, faking pure hatred. It didn't take much for her not to like someone; however it took a lot for her to truly hate a person. Khris definitely wasn't someone she hated; no matter how hard she was currently trying to make it seem as if she despised the boy. "What a chump, and a pushover," she told Raska while following allowing behind her.
"He must think he's real special, I'm sure his mommy's real proud of having a midget for a son. Like he'll be able to accomplish a thing, it'll get fifty guys just to hull him up on to the smallest of dragons." She was really not holding back, taking out all her anger on poor Khris. It wasn't him she was angry with at all, rather the idea of not impressing was finally starting to sink in.

Leander's attention was distracted from Tanwen when a voice came in to his head, and completely took him by surprise. "Something is speaking to me! I think I'm going insane," he announced, wrapping his arms around Tanwen from the side as if she was his safe hold. When the Green that had spoken to him was now standing directly before him he blinked at it, probably thinking that it'd go away with time. "Why is this creature standing before me-oh..." he trailed off, not having released his grip on the girl whom he still thought to be a friend.”Hello, my name is Leander. Le-an-der," he said to the Green slowly, wondering if it was of a lesser intelligence then him. Most would argue that everything was smarter than Leander, even a nat. Nevertheless Leander didn't even bother to think about the fact that the dragonet had been the one to speak to him, and through telepathy at that. I'm an intelligent creature, don't think me otherwise Mine. Now if you feed me I'll contemplate giving you some much needed lessons on how to charm a girl. I must readily concur that clinging to her in desperation is likely not going to appeal to her any, unless she likes to start off close... Yes, I’m thinking she does like closeness actually, but who can blame her, most wish to be close to me-if you get what I mean. Leander, now L’der, reached out an arm to take the piece of shell off of his dragonet’s snout. “There, quite handsome indeed isn’t he?” L’der asked Tanwen, not having even pondered over the fact that Green’s weren’t males. Mkinth’s size was most noteworthy, and L’der had most definitely noticed.
(( OOC| Kino, you missed L’der bumping in to Tanwen in my previous post. xD And Hawk, you didn't give me Mkinth's color code. ))

((OOC: Really late for this and sorry! Just bumbling something together to bring in the characters ^_^;; Least now the Weryleader will be present lol =/ ))
N'kal entered the scene, his eyes squinted against the winds as he made his way into the hatching cavern, escorting what he hoped to be the last of the candidates. He had heard the rumbles of hatching emanating from the dragons, and had done his best to seek out anyone who needed to be at the cavern. Asuth had so longed to be there immediately, as was his right as sire to the clutch, but given the circumstances there were other things that needed to be seen to at the time.
His last bit of need before giving in to his own desire to see to the hatching was to see to the candidate that he had found on the way. Silly girl had been outside of all things, for whatever reason. And of course upon telling her the eggs were hatching she had been all but rushing back to her barracks to change into the white impression gown, something that N'kal could only frown at. But he and Asuth had seen her safely there, waited for her to be ready, and then see her safely to the hatching cavern.
As soon as the pair arrived N'kal gave the candidate a comforting look before looking to find the Weyrwoman. Obviously she was near her golden Kaith, where N'kal assumed that he would be allowed as her current weyrmate. "I am sorry, Weyrwoman, I seemed to have been caught out in the storm," he said simply. He looked out at the many dragonets that had already hatched and smiled, "All is well?" he asked as his eyes roamed the sands.
Asuth took his place near the golden queen rumbling with the rest of the dragons but sending her emotions of pride and adoration and apology for not being there upon the first cracking of eggs.
Brileena stood momentarily frozen on the edges of the hatching sands. Her hair was completely mussed by the winds from the outside, and she had dressed in a great hurry. The gown she wore was fairly large for her small stature and she stood unsure of what to do. So many eggs were already hatched, so many dragonets.
Taking a deep breath she moved forward, reaching into the group of candidates who had so far been unchosen. She dearly hoped that she had not missed her hatching, but she felt that something inside her would have informed her of such a loss. So she waited patiently, towards the back of the group. She was still fairly embarrassed for her tardiness, but surely showing up late was better than not showing up at all. So she stood there, smiling at the dragonets that were about already, not really focusing on any one in particular.
