Xyrion watched Kiran take off. He heard the words, and was hoping the Candidate Master had heard them too. For all that she seemed to have, she still turned and addressed him again. He listened in silence while she spoke, but could feel a coldness growing inside him for the first half of her speech. She would send him away, because he wanted time to think? This wasn't Thread, or a dragonet. She was being far too harsh, and he felt wronged that she'd even suggest sending him packing due to this. Forcing someone to deal with something immediately? What was she trying to accomplish? There were people who actually thought about things before doing them, and he was one such person. So, he didn't say a single word, he let her talk, and his eyes were cold, his face expressionless.
He could respect her as a figure of authority, but there didn't seem to be much understanding about people in her. She didn't even pause to consider why he'd chosen to 'run' instead of stay. He felt he was being more mature in making sure he had a calm mind to deal with Kiran than facing him with feelings of confusion, and even remnants of remaining anger.
When she told the story of 'the girl', he immediately figured she was talking about herself. It was sad, but once again, she sounded hard...had her life made her that way? Well, he felt bad about what had happened, but obviously she'd never heard of 'to each their own'. Her problems might have been bigger than his, but he didn't feel she had rights to undermine his feelings and try and force him to be as she'd had to be. When it counted, he would act, and come through. But he felt he was dealing with this in his own way, and if she didn't understand that...well, he'd just have to suck it up because he wasn't about to get sent packing just because she thought she knew how he felt, or why he'd chosen to not face Kiran right away.
When she was through, he still didn't say a single word. He followed her with his eyes for a mere few seconds and then began to run as well, at the same not-so-fast run that was more of a jog that he used to eat up miles while thinking. He wasn't sure what to make of the woman. Harsh, was one word that came to mind. Nosy was another, but then again, he wasn't used to dealing with someone who was in charge of people who were meant to impress dragons, either. He didn't know whether or not to be upset about it, angry, or not care. In his opinion, she probably knew exactly what was going on. Why did she have to stick her nose in and force him to talk with her, instead of letting him and Kiran deal with it? What business was it of hers to know if they were related or not-why did it even matter?
He would have preferred she'd just let him continue running. Now it was becoming even more of a big deal than Xyrion had meant for it to ever be. Now it was an even bigger problem. Xyrion sighed, remembering why he didn't like dealing with people.
He kept on thinking as he was running, and begrudgingly part of that thinking was wondering if he was right or no to be so worked up over this. He was assuming that she was going to force them to talk about things he didn't want to-but it might not even have been the case. He was also assuming she'd been serious about sending him packing, when he'd never heard of that happening before over a private and trivial issue like this. Maybe she was trying to stress a point. He wasn't used to assuming things.
As he was nearing the end of the lap, he realized that maybe part of what she was trying to stress was that people with dragons couldn't do stuff like this, or else it could affect their dragonets and other riders badly. Was that it? Maybe she just wanted to prepare him for when he had a dragon-if, that was-and wanted to maybe curb whatever problems she thought he might have now, rather than brining the dragon into the picture and having issues like this later...
He sighed again, finishing his lap and wishing he'd never reacted in the way he had to begin with. He'd never been the type to do that before, it was just...pure instinct. He stared after Kiran in the distance, wondering what the other boy was thinking. Did he want a brother? Xyrion wasn't so sure he did. It was just someone he didn't know, wanting something from him he didn't think he could even give them. There was a reason Xy had so few friends growing up. He wasn't a people person. When he did talk, he said few words, and though he was generally a hard worker and got done what was asked of him, he preferred to work alone. What would having a brother, a fellow Candidate, mean for him now? Would it change things? He couldn't just ignore Kiran. They were going to be standing together, training together...maybe even be riders together. Rhia was right...he couldn't just run from this.
