"I could have made it more interesting, but I'm afraid that would take up almost all your day. And as fun as it sounds, I'm sure you want to go explore the weyr at one point also." Akki said, a frown pulling on her lips slightly as she imagined the story she could have woven. It would probably involve a rainbow dragon, and a runner that could talk.
Rimith trotted dutifully towards Hasima, and nudged the girls legs. The girl in return knelt down and scratched the yellows eyeridges who crooned happily as looked at everyone around her. She was certainly meeting a few new people today. Akki blinked, slightly wondering why this boy had pointed out who his mother was, clearly not understanding the fact that he was rather proud of this fact. "My mother was a female." Akki said, thinking that they had somehow started up a conversation about what their mothers were.

Judging by Layden’s tone, he could see that the boy possessed an air of superiority. However, these thoughts were quickly smothered by Akki’s retort. Riler chortled at the remark. To him, it was rather obvious that Layden was trying to impress the two riders with his rank, and judging by how Akki reacted, he had failed. Humored, Riler grinned, and looked down at the crooning yellow dragonet. He cocked his head to the side, staring at Rimith quizzically for a moment before raising his head back up. Looking at Layden, he stretched his hand out towards him, realizing he hadn’t introduced himself yet. “My name’s Riler, pleasure to meet you.”

Layden grinned, “Yes I would very much like to explore the weyr, High Reaches was getting a little boring.” Once again Layden’s eyebrow raised at Akki’s strange statement, “Well… I would certainly hope she was a female.” He kept his quizzical gaze on Akki a moment longer then turned to Riler as he began to speak. The boy hesitated momentarily before taking Riler’s hand. “Nice to meet you too. So… how long have you been here?”

"I don't know if I would." Akki said, deep in thought now. "It'd be pretty interesting to have a male mother. I think that it'd be fun. Except people would probably act strangely around my family then." She said with a crooked grin as she thought about having a male mother. Yes, people would act strangely indeed. "High Reaches, boring? Ha. I can't imagine it being boring. Dark Moon doesn't really get boring. So you're lucky to be here I suppose.".

“Have you ever been to High Reaches? It’s very cold… and very windy. Not much fun especially if you’ve explored most if not all of the weyr while trying to get away from the cold.” Layden replied to Akki. He plopped down onto the cot that he had claimed before continuing. “How do you mean interesting? Didn’t look so interesting when I was walking about.” Everyone had been doing their chores/jobs… that didn’t look exciting or fun, he frowned, maybe he’d be able to weasel his way out of his chores.

Akki grinned sheepishly. "Never been there before in my life. But I can't say it's boring if I never been there, so my best chance is to say it's fun and interesting." She explained with a small shrug as she casted a wink over at Hasima. "Oh Dark Moon rarely gets boring. If it does, people and dragons gather at the lake. It's a pretty good place to live at. You'll see what I mean after you stay here for a bit." Akki said vaguely, as she waved her hand in the air.

“I wouldn’t recommend going there, and if you do make sure you go during summer, if you can call it that.” Layden responded as he flipped over onto his back and put his hands behind his head to act as a pillow. Closing his eyes he listened to Akki’s explanation of what there was to do here. When Akki was finished he shot a glance over at Hassima who had remained incredibly quiet the whole time he had been there. “Do you ever talk?” he asked quite impolitely.

ooc:: I need to stick my candidate somewhere. Mind if I invade? ;;
It had been a few hours since P'rin had dropped Miki back off in the Barracks. All her things were unpacked and she was laying on her bed, bored. Her auburn hair spread around her like a halo but her violet eyes were not visible. They were closed.
Miki knew she was wrong. She knew the dragon didn't kill her father. But how was she supposed to admit that. How could she possibly say her father was too stupid that he went /between/ before he was ready. His dragon probably even warne him. It wasn't the dragons she was supposed to be mad at. It was her father for being an idiot and her mother for being too weak to stay alive.
So her Uncle had been right all along. Miki wished she could go and say so but she wouldn't hurt her pride that much. She wouldn't yell at the dragons or draonriders. That was compromise enough. Miki doubted she would stop arguing, though. She couldn't help it if people insulted her and she had to kick their butts. That was their fault, not hers.
Miki was starting to find it difficult to concentrate. There was a very loud girl in the male barracks. She was feeling terribly lonely, though. She might as well go and talk. The new candidate pushed her self from her bed and grabbed a metal comb. She did a few quick swipes through her short hair and rubbed her eyes. Then she straightened out her shirt and traveled over to the group.
Miki had to admit she was surprised at the number. She thought there were maybe two people- not four (plus one dragon). "Um... hey," she said.

‘Another one?’ Riler looked over towards the door as a thin, red-headed female entered into the barracks. She had a look of surprise on her face. At what she was surprised about, he couldn’t guess. Looking up brightly at the young lady, he politely responded to her. “Heya.” Riler glanced up and down the features of her, before asking, “Are you new here, too?” It was a rather bold step, he admitted to himself. What if it was someone who was rather important in the Weyr? But he felt that if it was someone who was more important, she would have acted more superior than simply saying ‘Hey’. Somewhat reassured by his own reasoning, he kept quiet, waiting patiently for a response.

Miki waited for a moment and then one of the people greeted her. She had the slightest hint of a smirk and rolled her eyes halfway so she was looking at the ceiling above her. She let out a breath she didn't realize she was holding. It wasn't like they weren't going to talk to her. She changed her gaze to Riler but kept her head slightly tilted. "Yes, I got here earlier today." She turned her head to the others, her hair gently whipping to her other shoulder and then falling back into place. Two of them were riders, it seemed. And two of them were candidate- three including herself.

Hasima looked up startled at the boys almost rude question, and opened her mouth to say something but she couldn't think of anything to say. Rimith flicked her tail almost angrily and rested her head on top of the girls legs as Akki snapped her fingers and said, "Oi, don't be mean. She has nothing to say that's all. She's just a quiet girl, nothing wrong with that.".
Hasima blushed a deep red as the blue rider stood up for her, and said softly a quick "Thanks." to her which Akki replied with a smile too. And as a new voice interrupted any conversation that was going on, Hasima looked up and said in almost a whisper, "Hello" and jerked her hand into a quick wave before hiding it underneath her legs. "Hello." Akki said rather brigtly. "I feel almost outnumbered now. Three candidates and two riders. They could take us Hasima."

Layden waved his hand in the air, brushing away Akki’s comment. “All I’m saying is that if she doesn’t talk more people are going to forget she’s in the room…” he paused for a moment and sat up, “…although it does help being forgotten and perhaps if I’m forgotten I won’t have to do chores.” He brought his hand up to stroke his non-existent beard as he thought.
Layden was surprised to actually hear Hasima speak; she had spoken right? It sounded as if she said hello… hello to who? He glanced around the room for someone new and his eyes stopped upon a new girl… a mystery girl. Where had she come from? He hadn’t heard her come in had she been in here the entire time? "Hello" was all he offered her as a greeting.
Layden looked to Akki, “Why do you feel outnumbered? There’s more girls here than guys I think Riler and I have the disadvantage. Plus we don’t have dragons… yet.”
((sorry for not replying sooner :/))

Riler didn’t really appreciate being dragged into the conversation, especially in support of Layden. He had already clearly shown himself to be somewhat of a snotty person, so he could already tell associating with him might not be his best option at the moment. He quietly said, “I don’t feel at any disadvantage.” He didn’t mind being outnumbered, males to females. He never felt out of place with members of the opposite sex. A few of his friends at home were females, so he sometimes found himself alone with the women. So now, he didn’t feel out of place; well, not because he was a member of the opposite sex, anyways.
He also added, “But we don’t even know that we’ll get dragons. What makes ya seem so sure that you will be chosen?” It was a fair question, he reasoned. He heard that a fair few were turned down, not chosen at the Hatchings. Instead, they’d leave the Weyr, or maybe work in the Weyr. He hadn’t really thought that he’d be turned down, but he knew that the possibility was always there. Someday, though he wished he wouldn’t have to, he might have to make the decision as to what he would do if he wasn’t chosen.

“It’s pretty much a fact I’ll be chosen” Layden replied confidently. “After all my mother is a queen rider, my father a bronze rider.” He grinned. “Not to mention that many of my brothers and sisters have impressed. One brother impressed a bronze, one brother and one half brother have impressed browns, I forget how many impressed blues and two of my sisters impressed green.” He listed them off counting them on his fingers until he ran out of them. "I plan on being the second to impress a bronze, I was going to be the first but C’tion was searched first, and he’s younger than I!” Layden frowned at this. "I was so sure that he would've impressed a blue." He added forgetting Akki the bluerider was in the room. “How about you Riler? You had any dragonriders in your family?”

Riler slowly shook his head, not understanding Layden’s angle at all, if he even had one. ‘Is he simply trying to make me feel inferior?’ He didn’t think of it as impossible, judging by his attitude, so far. “No, I’m the first one in my family that I know of. Neither my mother nor father mentioned it, so I assume that I don’t.” He shrugged his shoulders. “I’m sure that it makes no difference, though, right? Isn’t it based upon each individual person?” He looked around the room, questioningly. Maybe he was just making a fool of himself, but he continued, anyways. “I mean, why should it matter, if my brothers or sisters were chosen. They’re different people than I am. The same applies to you, doesn’t it? Just because your brothers and sisters and mother and father were chosen, why does that mean you’re an instant chosen pick? True, they were worthy enough to be chosen, but why does that mean you are?” He shuffled his feet, getting the feeling that he should have just kept his mouth shut. He felt like he was acting arrogant and naïve, but he really did mean what he said. Why should Layden be picked, just because his family was?

"If someone forgets that someone is in the room, wouldn't that make them at fault, and not the person who is quiet?" Akki said, stating her point of view on this. She figured that even though someone is quiet, they should not be forgotten but if someone forgets another person it is the fault for being so forgetful. It made sense in her mind at the very least. "Oh don't worry about it, if I see someone forget to give you a chore, I'll remind them." Akki said with a shrug, pretending that she would be doing him a favour by doing that.
"Because genders shouldn't matter?" Akki offered as to why Layden and Riler shouldn't feel outnumbered if they did. As Riler voiced his opinion about the topic, Akki pointed a finger at him and shook it a bit. "You, I like you already. We should be friends." She said with a nod, it was the truth too, she did like Riler. He seemed nice.
"Family lines do not guarantee you a dragon." Hasima said slowly. Akki looked at the girl in surprise, as did the yellow dragon. Hasima really wasn't the one to give her opinion without being forced into it, but no one forced her into it this time. "I'm an only child, my mother was a cook and my father did odd jobs. There has never been someone in my family who has had a dragon. But here I am with Rimith. It may help you to have a family member with a dragon, but it force a dragon to go with you." She said with her usual quietness, except this time it was loud enough for everyone to hear. Akki grinned at the girl, almost feeling a motherly proudness towards her.
But her eyes flashed towards Layden almost dangerously and she said, "And what's wrong with Impressing blues? You make it seem like that he didn't deserve a bronze, but instead a second hand dragon like a blue. The dragons choose the people you know, so that means that a bronze decided that he was worthy of a bronze.". She tried to hide a smile, barely suceeding since the corners of her mouth turned upwards slightly as she said, "You could easily end up with a green you know.". She looked over at Riler and nodded, "It is the individual that a dragon bases his or her opinion on. At least that's what I believe.
I like to think that too. Ebbeth said for everyone to hear, his voice obviously filled with amusement.

Riler looked at the finger wagging in his face with concern, thinking that he might have said something wrong. When she said that they should be friends, he gave a small sigh of relief. He nodded, putting a small smile on his lips. “I-I’d like that.” Akki seemed like a very outgoing, fun person, someone he’d like to hang around and joke with. And as it turned out, he and Hasima came from a similar background; not having any dragonriding family, anyways. This assured him more that he could Impress a dragon, which was a very comforting feeling. Though her tone was quiet, Riler could notice the power she put into her heartfelt words.
Akki’s grin from Hasima’s words quickly turned to anger, directed towards Layden. Riler did all he could to stifle a snicker at her scolding him. He knew he shouldn’t laugh, and that it was impolite, but the situation seemed too funny. Layden did walk right into this mess, so he was semi-curious to how he would get himself out. And again, Riler was reassured in his understanding about how things in the Weyr worked, thanks to Akki’s last comment to him. He nodded as well, signifying that he understood, before turning back to Layden for some sort of reaction to the admonishment he was receiving.

Upon hearing that Riler was the first in his family to be searched Layden replied, “Ah… well… Congratulations on being searched…perhaps you’ll be the first in your family to impress. That’d be exciting.” He lay down on his cot again before adding, “I wish you luck.”
Layden grinned when Akki said she’d remind people to give him chores, his gray eyes glinted with amusement. “Only if you can find me, that is. I plan on scouring out this weyr for the perfect hiding places. And if on the off chance you do happen to find me I’m sure my friends will help,” he added not realizing that this current conversation with them would probably result in him having no friends.
The boy was surprised to hear the quiet Hasima speak but was ready with a response when the quiet girl had finished, “Fine then it doesn’t absolutely guarantee me a dragon but it sure gives me an edge.” He said thinking for a moment, “We’re different people but we’re raised pretty much the same way. Not to mention we were all raised in a Weyr which gives me another advantage. I know how things work, at least at my Weyr.” He kept his gaze on the quiet girl for a moment until Akki turned on him.
Layden sat up again and hung his legs over the side of the cot, touching the ground easily. He set his elbow upon his knee and head rested upon his knee as he listened with a bored expression upon his face. He jumped slightly when he heard Ebbeth’s voice in his head but that did not stop him from responding to Akki, “Don’t you think that’s a bit hypocritical of you though? You’re standing up for the little blue dragons but then and then go and insult me by saying I’ll get a green.” Layden said with a grin thinking he’d won the battle.

Miki could honestly say she would never have noticed Hasima's greeting had she not been looking right at her. The girl beside her, however, was much more noticeable. She was somewhat surprised but she made sure to keep her face plain. "Hasima," she said quietly as she looked back at the first girl, "Is that your name?" Sure, at this point Miki should have said her name. She should have been reminded to say it but she couldn't be bothered to do this. She didn't bother to wait for an answer, though, because someone else had greeted her. She rose her head a bit and looked at the boy. He hadn't said much either but it wasn't the same as Hasima. It seemed she had been shy. He just seemed like he didn't care. Her shoulders dropped and she looked at him through half-lidded eyes. She sighed quietly. She would just brush it off.
It was easy for her to let it go, though, because of the next comment. She couldn't surpress a small laugh. She knew she would get a dragon. She wasn't sure how much she wanted a dragon but she would get one. How could she not? Sure, anyone could say they would but she knew it. She couldn't help but here Layden. Her mother's mother had been a queenrider and her husband a bronze. Her mother impressed a green, though, and her father was a brown. That didn't much bother her. It was true that she loved her parents but she always saw greater things for herself. Even when she was a young girl she always felt she would be above them. She put her hands behind her head, criss-crossing her fingers to create a pocket, and leaned against the wall.
Once again Miki's thoughts were interrupted. Her fingers undid but she kept her hand by her ears. That kid certainly gave him a mouthful. She looked to the snooty boy to see how he would react. There was some chit-chat and it was clear everyone was turning against him. She chose not to speak but she crossed her arms in front of her and looked at him out of the corners of her eyes. She was beginning to feel a bit sorry for him, though. They were similar and she often talked her way into a bad place. Sure, she was often too blunt to notice it till long after the conversation but it did happen. He managed to defend himself, though. She would make friends later. She did feel a bit left out but she could wait to be included.

Akki grinned at Riler's responce about them being friends and nodded happily, "I'm glad. One can never have too many friends. And also, the hatchings are more exciting if your friend is a candidate.". Akki snapped her fingers, for really no reason, as she replied to Layden. "I've been here for quite a few turns now. I'm pretty sure it can't be that hard to find a new boy. Besides, you're forgetting something. Ebbeth. I'm sure he could easily see where you head off too and give me a clue now and then.".
Hasima shook her head, but said nothing. However the head shake was more than enough to signal that they weren't raised the same way. The boy was probably known at his weyr, had a high status with his family. The only status Hasima's family ever got was the one telling people to stay away for they had a odd mother and father and a daughter who was too slow to remember things. No, she couldn't say that they were raised the same way.
"Rrrrrrr." Akki said loudly, making a noise that was supposed to show Ladyen that he gave an incorrect answer. "I'm a proud rider, I'd never insult any type of dragon. Greens and blues are some of the best dragons to have, they keep the weyr running alot of the times. I'm saying that you getting a green is a possibility and it'd be rather amusing since you're partially expecting that you're going to get a higher ranked dragon. All in all I'm really just saying that you shouldn't count on anything when it comes to Impressing a dragon.".
Hasima turned her head as she heard the new girl say her name softly. She nodded up and down, "Yes. That's my name.". She offered the newcomer a weak smile, probably the biggest one anyone would be able to get out of her that day which seemed rather dissapointing. Akki flopped onto her back once more, laying on the ground with her blonde hair splayed out around her head. "Don't make me start to hate you Layden." Akki sniffed, but with her nature it was easy to see that the girl was just joking around. For now at least.
