So this was his new home? He had never, ever had to sleep surrounded by stone before. The air smelt like people and rock. He couldn’t hear any animals at all, and how was he supposed to sleep on a flat surface? Gingerly he poked the cot. It wasn’t rock, anyway. And there was a fur? It muse get even colder at night then. No wonder he had been given all these new clothes.
Carefully he put his few old belongings and larger pile of new belongings into a trunk at the end of his new sleeping place, thinking about all the new rules he had to follow. Don’t be alone with a female candidate - that was easy to understand. Be respectful - yes, he understood that, but there were several different ranks and names. He’d have to use sir and ma’am on everyone until he’d gotten the ranks and names straight in his head.
When everything was away, he started exploring the barracks trying to figure out how many Canddates were here. He’d guess there were as many females as males, he wasn’t going to start out by breaking the rule about going into the female room!
((let me know if I have to fix anything))

Hali walked into the male barracks. She stopped as she noticed someone new. "Are you a new candidate?" She asked in her deeper voice. She sat on the cot that was hers and ran her fingers through her hair. It almost reached her shoulders, so it often got in her eyes.
((Short, I really don't know what to post.))

Perin let out a muffled curse as the door of the Candidate's Barracks closed on his heels, scuffing his wher-hide boots and sending a wave of pain through his left heel. He forgot that the door snapped closed and had been too slow walking in to miss being hit.
"Shells and shards that hurts. Good thing I have numbweed." He murmered to himself, not realizing that there were other people in the boys side of the Barracks as he walked in. The lad had let his blue-black hair down and his loose tunic was tucked into his breeches, emphasizing his lean form. His tunic sleeves made his shoulders look broader than they actually were. The white tunic emphasized his dark skin more than anything else and his pale blue eyes gleamed against his dark skin.
"Oh. Sorry, I didn't know anyone was in here. How are you Kalor? And I don't think I caught your name but welcome to Dark Moon." He said in the direction of the newcomer.
((sorry but is this before or after the lake topic? time frames in this weyr are screwed up))

Hasima ran her fingers through her long, dark black hair as she shuffled towards where she heard Perin and Kalor. She was sleeping before, more tired than you could imagine, but woke up when she heard familiar voices. Hence the terrible knots in her hair which she was attempting to get rid of. She wandered for a moment, trying to locate the voices before noticing they were coming from the male barracks. Should she go in? She should probably ask. It'd be rude of her to barge in. And Hasima didn't want to be rude.
She peered in and said, in that quiet voice of hers, "Perin? Kalor? Is it okay if I join you two? I can't really find anyone else. That's okay if you don't want me to of course, I don't want to be rude and pester you two. I can go back to sleep anyways.". She bit her lip, hoping what she said didn't sound rude. Even though it sounded regretful that she asked, thinking that she would be rejected for sure.

Perin looked up when he heard Hasima's quiet voice. "Nah that's ok Hasima. Come on in. Just leave the door open so the riders don't have a fit. I haven't seen the Candidatemaster punish anyone but she looks like she could be a tough one if crossed. You aren't pestering anyone."
The dark-skinned youth moved to his own cot and sat with his long legs folded beneath him. He faced the others so that converstaion would be easier. "How have you been Hasima?"

She nodded and slowly moved into the male barracks, leaving the door opened. She would hate for anyone to be punished because the door was closed, she'd feel responsible for it probably. "Are you sure? I truly don't want to be a burden." She said looking at them as she shuffled from foot to foot.
She tucked some hair behind her ear and said, "Tired, I'm too excited, nerous and anxious for the hatching that I can't sleep probably. But I'm doing good.". She blushed, not that there was really any reason to blush but she did anyways and said, "And you Perin?". She looked at the new person and said shyly, "Hello. I'm Hasima.".

Hali turned her eyes away from the new candidate and toward the door. She watched as Perin talked to himself and wondered when he would notice that there were two other people in the room. "Hey Perin." She half-waved. Hali once again heard something by the door and her eyes went back to that spot. The door creaked open and Hasima's face peaked in. "Of course you can join us." Hali said to the shy candidate.
She listened as Hasima talked about her worries. "You really should relax. Worry is only going to make things harder. I am sure that nothing is going to go wrong. And we are probably all going to get dragons." Hali said excitedly. She was careful to keep her voice low, since it often rose when she was excited.

Pilan felt himself start to relax a little as the other candidates started coming in. They weren't much different then him. He'd been afraid they'd be all stuck up or just not want to meet anyone new. He felt welcome, like he was part of the group already.
"I'm Pilan, I just got here from Arkady Hold. I'm really gad to meet all of you. Hasima, Perin and Kalor, right?" he asked, pointing to them in turn. "The bluerider made it sound like hatching is soon? Sounds like a good reason to be nervous too me." He reached into his trunk and handed his comb to Hasima "This'll help with your hair." With all the hair she had, it'd take her a while to fix it with her fingers.

"Oh I know you two will for sure, you guys would be perfect riders." Hasima gushed to Kalor and Perin as she continued to attempt to tame her hair, which was failing. "I can't calm down though, I'm really to nervous for the hatching. I keep thinking that I won't Impress, which is understandable of course, I've never really done anything to deserve a dragon." She said with a faint blush.
She noddeds, slowly of course, as he pointed to her and stated her name. She was silently thanking everything that she didn't mess it up, like she did awhile ago and accidently said Sahima. Oh, what nerves could do to a person! "Which blue rider?" She asked quietly, thinking maybe it was her friend Akki, who seemed to know everyone and anyone. She looked at the comb, shook her head and said, "Oh, I can't borrow your comb. The knots in my hair will probably break it. I can go get mine later on.".

"Don't be like that Hasima. I am sure you will get a dragon. Your dragon will be just as nervous and worrisome as you." Hali smiled.
((Sorry, short.))

"Does this mean mine will be talkative, high energy and athletic?" Pilan asked hamming it up a bit. He did not want to think too much about the hatching, that was better left until night, the proper time for worrying in his opinion.
He didn't expect to get too much sleep the first couple nights here as he thought and worried about everything, but he was not going to burden any one else with his troubles.

"I am good. Thanks for asking Hasima. He, you don't give yourself enough credit Hasima. You will do fine and you are just as worthy of a dragon as the rest of us." Perin smiled at the comment about the dragon personalities. "I heard that sometimes the dragons are opposite from the riders. I don't know what personality any dragon of mine would have. I am as changeable as the weather."
"What color do you think you guys will Impress?"

"Then my dragon and I would both be of no use, hiding in a corner" Hasima said with a slight smile, joking around but maybe with a hint of seriousness. But mostly joking around of course. She snorted quietly in amusement as to what Palin said. She didn't mean to of course, it just sort of slipped past. "Oops." She said, her cheeks turning a pale shade of pink.
She shrugged, "I truly do not know. It doesn't really matter to me though, as long as we like each other.". She stopped and then added, "Alot.". "And you?" She asked curiously.

"Come on Hasima. You wouldn't be hiding in a corner. You aren't hiding now." He smiled. The lad raised his eyebrows when she snorted and then burst out laughing.
"I think maybe a brown or blue for me. Probably more like a brown because they are steadier than blues."

Hali considered this. If she was correct, bronzes , brown, blues, and most greens went to males, while golds and some greens went to females. "Probably a brown or blue for me. I don't think that a bronze or green would suit me." She explained in a deep voice.

"Then a brown won't want me. Steady and consistent are baaaad words as far as I'm concerned." Pilan was mostly seious now. "I like-excitement and things being different everyday. I'd rather have to figure out how to do something new every day then do the same old thing. Thats why I'm not a Harper, you have to practice music eacha nd eveyday, the same thing again and again. And it isn't interesting! Practising knife fighting each day, or running through the jungle? That is doing the same thing, but it isn't boring."
He shrugged a little self-consciously. He hadn't meant to make a speech. "Probably a blue for me, right?"

"You seem to be a jokester and blues and greens seem to be the most flighty dragons so I guess so. Browns aren't all that serious though. They just aren't as flighty as blues."

Hasima grinned slightly at Perin's comment and shrugged before listening to everyone's ideas as to what they thought they were going to Impress. What did she want to Impress? She truly had no idea, she didn't have an preference. She was satisfied of having the idea that one day she could be a dragon rider. Her. She remembered the looks people gave her that day, saying she wouldn't Impress, how her father and mother looked so proud. Even if she didn't Impress, they'd still be proud. For just being picked.
Hasima listened to Pilan and then said out loud, in thought, "He's like a male Akki isn't he? You two shouldn't meet then. You'd guys would cause havoc. A good kind of havoc though...I think?". "I'd probably Impress a green, maybe, because greens mostly go to girls.".

Jokester? He didn't really think of himelf that way. He just got bored if there wasn't something going on, preferably something new or different. If there wasn't, well then he used to get in trouble because he'd try to get something to happen. He didn't want to stir up things at the Weyr though. Probably it'd take a while before he got bored, so no need to worry about it.
"I only stir things up when everyone wants it, so don't worry. I'm not the type to, oh, cut though the legs of your cot so you fall in the night, or replace your pillow with something stinky."
