Wolf's eyes, if they could have, would've lit-up. "I haven't gone yet," she told him, her voice flooded with worry. "Any time now though, right?" she said, not looking away from him now as if she was depending on him for her comfort. She wondered if this was a selfish-way of responding to his friendship, trying to appear way less needy.

Jakel smiled. "Don't worry. It's really cool. And the eggs are warm, and I could've swarn I felt their heartbeats. The queen is just intimidating. Everyone else came back safe, even the girls. Even me." He added, jabbing his thumb at his chest and laughing. He stopped and looked at her, hoping he was making her feel at least a little bit better. Even he knew that being too worried or nervous might make her seem suspicious to the Kaith.

"You make it sound so easy," she teased, her anxieties somewhat lifted by the way he freely spoke of the experience. 'Jakel said it'll be fine, meaning its going to be.' She took in a refreshing breath of air, letting it out gently, trying to seem graceful as she brought her arms in tight to her chest. as if she was holding something close to her body. "Thanks Jakel, you always make me feel better when I really need it," she expressed to him. His opinion on the situation had been the only one she was caring to hear at the moment.

Kaith thrashed her tail across the sands as another Candidate entered and began the tiresome routine of bowing and flattering her. She glared at the girl who entered, her agitation showing in her swiftly whirling eyes and the restless movements of her tail and wings.
The golden dragon snorted at the girl. The girl did not smell like the Weyr and so she was probably new to the Weyr. Touch them and go. She said curtly.

Kira bowed and said, "Thank you oh glorious queen". She smoothly walked to each and every egg, admiring each with equal joy in her eyes. Touching each one but never lingering longer than necessary. Each were so warm and filled with life, such stunning beauty. As she finished she once again stood before the gold and spoke, "Your eggs are gorgeous, their splender and grace matched only by the gold who clutched them". After a moment she walked back towards the entrance, such a stunning clutch, it truely was breath taking. Unfortunantly knowing the queen's agitation she made her time there short as not to provoke her any further.

Kaith turned to look at the girl as she spoke. Why was she still here? She listened and then snorted. You are polite, but are you sincere?
Rhia looked around, trying to figure out why Malenie was not in the cavern. She slipped out of the cavern and went to the Candidates. "Malenie go in there now or you will not be able to touch the eggs."
The Candidate master pulled from her bowl and read the name. She turned to the skittish little boy who had gone wild and wound up burning himself and said in a more gentle tone.
"Kinest go with her. Kira should be coming out soon." Rhia rubbed a hand against her forehead. This was steadily becoming a more stressful situation and the new Candidatemaster was getting a headache. She wante to return to her weyr and check on her children.
Easy little one things will be fine. The hatchlings are still sleeping. This will be over soon. Her brown's voice was soothing in her mind and she smiled.

Kinest looked up when he heard his name, the first thing to flash across his face was fear, luckily for him the next was curiousity. He stood up slowly and looked around as if still uncertain whether or not he should actually go inside. He wiped his hands on his shirt and let them drop at his side, cold from the air. He had closed them into fists until they became sweaty.
He made his way towards the Hatching Sands haltingly, every so often running his hands through his hair; a nervous gesture. Once he passed the bronzes at the entrance he halted staring at the queen and her clutch, after a few long moments he managed to close his mouth after discovering it gaping open. He couldn't imagine actually living so close to such a large thing all the time. Somehow Christae did it, he didn't know how...the queen seemed angry. He'd not want to be close to something that could chomp him up if it was angry.
He tilted his head, then again the dragon thought and was almost a person. He blinked and bowed lowed aware that he had been staring at her for a time without saying anything. When he looked back up he licked his lips and opened his mouth but words weren't coming to him easily. "A..ah..welc..may.." He wrung his hands and inched back thinking his bed sounded like a very nice place to hide. He'd never be able to touch the eggs though. This thought made him stop, he didn't want to give up what may be his only chance to touch the eggs. For when Hatching came you weren't allowed to touch them...just to watch them hatch. His brows drew down in consternation and he took a calming breath, "How are you,... queen Kaith? I hope you ....and, and you yours fine health. ...May I touch them?" His voice was rough and barely audiable but he had done it. He'd conquered a fear for the chance at touching the eggs, he just hoped the queen granted it. He comforted himself by the fact that dragons seemed better than people alot of the time. And the gold's human was a good person.

Kaith looked at the frightened child. I remember you boy. Touch them and go."
(short sorry)
~~~~~~~~~~~~ Rhia waited for Malenie to show and then frowned. She walked back into the caverns and pulled another name. "Wolf. You're next. Malenie you are now at the end of the line."
Kinest smiled, much like a boy unexpectedly given sweets at a Gather or some other huge occasion, not that he had really been to any of those. Gray eyes studied the eggs in turn and he slowly made his way through the Hatching Sands. Once he had gotten the okay, he seemed to forget about the protective, looming queen. His hand would slowly settle on random eggs he found of interest. There were far too many for him to touch them all considering the pace he was going at.
After meandering to an egg close to the entrance he decided to leave before he angered the queen. He made a low bow, whispering something about thanks and health, before pivoting on his foot and making his way out. He slowly walked back to the rest of the Candidates, he'd hesitate a few moments before moving to the back of the group. Not far enough to seclude himself but not standing with any particular group. If he were to think about it, he might say that doing that had given him more courage to try to face these frightening people and place.
Wolf felt her entire face go numb as her name was called. This was the moment she had been waiting for, for such a long time now. This was her time to touch the beautiful Kaith's eggs, one of which could possibly hold her life partner inside. Oh, how she was shaking with anxiety. She looked over at Jakel, eyes all sparkly, "this is it." She felt bad that she was going instead of Malenie but at the same time she was glad that she was going sooner rather then later. She found herself taking a few step forward before stopping to take a cleansing breath, turning to look back she smiled at Jakel. The girl made her way into the cavern, bowing respectfully to the Bronze's that were there, her long hair falling forward past her shoulders as she did so.
Continuing to walk onto the sands she cursed lightly as the heat went straight through to the soles of her feet. Walking with a slight waddle the girl winced each and every step of the way, looking rather ridiculous indeed. There she was... The Queen Kaith. She wanted to say, 'hey Kaith, what's kicking?' She knew better then to go with what first came into her mind, bowing the lowest she had yet to show her deepest respects. "Hello Queen Kaith, your looking quite marvelous today I thought I'd tell you." The girl's gaze drifted to the Queen's eggs, then back to the large Gold. "I'd love to ask, so I will..." she began, swallowing hard. "May I request to touch your glorious eggs? Its a fine clutch you've laid, the finest yet I'm sure." Wolf hoped that the Queen would approve of how she had gone about asking. Waiting for Kaith to reply seemed like an eternity, almost like time had stopped permanently.
((oops I thought I responded to this for some reason))
Kaith looked at the girl. At least you are not saying the same old tired phrases. Touch them girl. The Queen watched as avidly as ever as the girl made her way through the eggs. She wanted to make certain none of her eggs slipped out from under her nose.
Wolf's heart skipped a beat as Kaith made her cold response, yet she didn't take it to heart. "Thank-you," she said, bowing-out as she turned to the direction of the eggs. She could literally hear her heart beating in her ears as she extended an arm. Her hand touched the shell of the first egg, running along its surface. She bit her lip gently, not able to believe how amazing this felt. Boy, what a conversation she'd want to have with her friends afterward. Moving on to the next egg she did the same, doing her best to keep a mental picture of what each one looked like, pondering of which one inside she might impress. Egg to egg, memorization by memorization, Wolf went at a slow-pace. She hadn't really meant to but she didn't want to forget this daunting moment in time. As she reached the last egg she paused, holding her breath as she felt the intense warmth of the egg. She nearly swore she could feel some-sort of heartbeat inside from the hatchling, but there was no way to be sure. Wishing she could've stayed she looked up on Kaith, praying she'd impress. Hence, Wolf left the hatching sands, saying a fairly silent 'good-bye' to the Gold. She found herself back in the cavern, racing up to Jakel like a tiny Weyr child. "Oh Jakel, it was amazing!" she yelled, slapping a hand over her mouth as she realized how increased her volume had been. The girl tried to calm herself but honestly, how could she? Oh, today was the day of all days!
Roxis watched as his younger sister came out of the caverns, relieved that the Golden Queen hadn't tore her head off or something. He was so happy for her, that she had gotten to experience such a life changing thing. He only hoped he'd be able to experience it also as he now waited for his turn, in line.
Rhia emerged from the cavern "Roxis you are next along with Valkoran. If I missed anyone let me know."
Roxis observed the Candidate Master as his name was spoken. "Yes, right away," he said. Although he was respectful he never really payed all that much attention to ranks, though at times he ought to. He didn't waste any time, heading straight through the entrance to the hatching sands. As Roxis reached the sands he too could feel there warmth at the soles of his feet. He stood straight-up, paying no attention to how his feet felt when he had more important things to concentrate on. Turning to the Bronze's he quickly bowed, not wanting to dally in the entrance-way.
As the boy's gaze set up on the magnificent Queen he just about lost his footing. He had never actually seen Kaith, or any other Gold for that matter, this close-up before. "Golden Queen," he greeted Kaith, bowing low before her. He gathered his thoughts before coming out of his bow, not wanting his words to come out misinformed. "I hope your in good health, as well as your beautiful clutch." The teenage boy gestured to the clutch of eggs. "On this fine day I would like to request to be able to touch your eggs, but only if it will not be a burden up on you?" he asked. He waited, silent as ever. One thing about Roxis is that he didn't allow himself to become overly nervous or agitated, always just... calm; as the waters on a day when Rukbat shone bright.
Kaith looked at the lad. He seemed unruffled on the outside but he was hiding this nervousness. She listened to his polite inquiry with studied patience. Surely this was drawing to an end?
I grow weary of this. Touch the eggs boy but I hope that you are the last one.
"Thank-you, for being so considerate," he replied to Kaith before turning to the clutch of eggs. For several heartbeats he was thinking about how Kaith must have felt with strangers coming in and touching her eggs.
He extended his hand to touch the eggs set up next to him. "Wow..." he whispered to himself, they were so warm, so... beautiful. He now focused on the feelings he had been harboring when standing in line with the others. This was for him, like Wolf, one of the single most best moments of his life. He knew the hatching would be even more amazing then this but right now he couldn't even imagine it. This was all just too overwhelming for him. Each shell was so unique, the thought of each one holding its own life in there sent a tingling sensation running through out his entire body. Once he had reached the last egg he looked back at the others, grinning widely. "What an opportunity." He headed back past the Bronze's quickly, the joy on his face so plain to see.
