The blue rider looked over at the Weyrleader. He was so nervous he hadn't noticed him there. "Y-yes sir, Weyrl-leader sir. Th-thank you Weyrwoman", he stuttered to them both. He then scurried off after he was finished talking. Always so nervous and anxious, he had been that way since he was young.
She mentally chuckled at the blue rider as he left. She soon cleared her head of it and looked at the Weyrleaders. "Thank you Weyrleaders", she said to them both. She wrote her name down on the strip of parchment handed to her and placed it in the bowl. She gave a nod to Rhia, a silent hello. She then sat down and nudged one of the candidates. "You mind filling me in?", she asked the candidate named Hasima. She looked over the candidates. There weren't all that many, especially guys. Well not many that would seem to catch her interest anyway, but who knew. She would find some way to entertain herself. She was sure she only scratched the surface of this Weyr and that there was much more to it than just some small, quiet Weyr. She returned full attention to the candidate she asked to fill her in and waited for an answer.

"Yes!" Jakel jumped from his chair and onto his feet. The chair fell over and tumbled on the floor. He was so happy, he was going to be the first to touch the eggs, just like he had wanted. If that wasn't luck he didn't know what was.
***************
Hali gave and akward look at Jakel. She knew he was an excited and rambunctious boy, but this wasn't the best time to be making a lot of noise and jumping around. "Jakel." She said sternly in her male voice.
*****************
Jakel heard someone say his name and his eyes turned to Kalor. He then looked around and towards the chair. "Whoops." He said blankly. The eager candidate quickly picked up his chair. "Sorry." He appolagized to everyone, especially the Weyrleaders. That must have seemed very rude, but that never really entered his mind.
************
Hali sighed. SHe hoped that Jakel didn't get himself mauled.
((I LOVE THIS INSANE CHARACTER! LOL))

The hand that clutched Hasima's heart loosened slightly as she slumped in her chair, learning that Jakel would be going first and not her. She was glad he was going first, because she was too nervous too and he seemed immune to nerves at this moment, due to the fact he was jumping around wildly. She smiled nervously at Jakel, hoping he'd take it as a congratulations and not a 'I hate you for being first' smile. She tucked a piece of black hair behind her ear and waited to hear the next name that would be called out.

OOC: It was pointed out that I forgot my own Candidates..I apologize and will just slip them in here.
Anassa slid her name in the pile, and smiled when Jakel was chosen. She also sighed with relief that it was a boy that was going first.
Perin had slipped in unnoticed before the CandidateMaster had begun speaking about the procedures for the egg touching. He was glad that he hadn't been caught coming in late like that other girl did. Perin's usually calm face broke into a tenative smile as he saw Jakel's enthusiasm at the fact that he had been chosen first.

Rhia raised her eyebrows as Jakel knocked over his chair in his excitement. A small smile played upon her features. "I am glad that you are so excited Jakel but kindly pick up your chair. Follow me everyone. You will wait until you are called to enter the Caverns."
Kaith lifted her massive head as Christae and Sh'iron entered the Cavern. The bronzes stood guard all around the Hatching Cavern. Myranenth was an impressive sight standing guard at the entrance to the Sands. No one in their right mind would take on these imposing bronzes, much less an angry Queen.
Rhia entered the Cavern and bowed low to the Queen. "Good day to you Kaith. I thank you for allowing my pupils to have the chance to touch your magnificent eggs." The Candidate Master bowed low again to the giant Queen.
"I wish to present the Candidate Jakel to you my Queen." Rhia said with another bow, beckoning the boy forward.

Jakel smiled as he followed the brown-rider onto the hatching sands. At first, he was so excited that he did not realize the heat coming from the sands. But, it did catch up with him and he narrowly avoided losing his balance and falling on his butt. He looked with awe at all of the large bronzes, especially at Myaranenth, who stood tall with pride. Realizing that he was being introduced, Jakel strode forward, trying his best to keep calm though his insides were boiling with excitement. He bowed low and rose. He took a deep breath before daring to speak.
"Good day Kaith. Thank-you for allowing us...I mean me to stand." He started by saying what Rhia had said, then tried to remember what she had said earlier. "How are you and your chosen?" He asked politely. What else was he supposed to say. He racked his brain but could think of no more. Hoping he said enough he asked for permission. "May I touch your amazing eggs?" Jakel asked hopefully.
**********************
Hali followed all of the others onto the sands. She looked up at all of the guarding bronzes and at the all important Weyrleaders bronze. She inhaled sharply as the hot sands quickly penetrated her thin boots. She had hoped they would be enough. Knowing the sands would only get hotter, she was a bit worried about how hot they would be when she could only wear sandals.
Nevertheless, she walked on and stopped with the others behind Rhia. She looked with awe upon the great Senior Queen and pitied the poor soul who messed with her. She really hoped everyone would use their heads and not get themselves hurt.

((they will stand outside and wait until they are called forward...that is what i wrote in an earlier post..they aren't on the sands, only Jakel))
Rhia remained calm as the lad fumbled over his words. She knew that Kaith had no quarrel with the males but she might suspect that a lad had helped the theif so they all had to be careful. "Bow" She hissed to the boy.
Kaith rose to a sitting position, her wings halfway extended. She was an imposing figure, stern and dignified. Her eyes whirled fast with orange flecked yellow. Her hide was not the normal bright gold. All of the dragons hides had a bit of a grayish tinge to them from the stress of having such a furious Queen.
Christae stepped forward, knowing that the dragon would not harm her to get to one of the Candidates if the need arose. "Jakel is a good lad and would take good care of one of your children Kaith. Do you allow him to touch the eggs?"
Kaith snaked her head down to peer at the boy. Her nostrils flared as she took in his scent. After what seemed like an eternity the giant Queen moved her head away.
You may touch my eggs but be quick about it. Do not dare to attempt to harm them or I will rend you limb from limb

((Oh, the she is just staring at the bronzes. By the way, Jakel did bow. That was the first thing he did.))
Jakel waited, a bit nervous, as the queen thought. He stood still as she looked him over and sniffed him. When he was allowed to touch he wanted to jump around and scream with happiness, but knew better than that. "Thankyou." He bowed again before he slowly walked towards the first egg. He made sure not to speed up his pace as he wanted to. Jakel placed his hand on the egg and spread his fingers wide. He could feel the distant heartbeat in the egg. Jakel walked to each egg doing the same thing. Sometimes he felt the heartbeat, sometimes he didn't, but that was probably just from the thick shells. He faced the queen and bowed one last time, before he excitedly walked back to the others. All he could think was how amazed he was.

((shes concerned that Kaith will think he is insubordinate thats why she told him to bow again))
Kaith rumbled deep in her throat as she watched every move the boy made. When he left, she lowered her head and ceased her rumblings.
Rhia pulled from the bowl again. "Jessalyn. Gylfie, bring me Jessalyn." She sent the flitt with the hide so that the Candidates could read the name. The candidates were out of eyesight and earshot of the dragons and eggs. They only knew what was told to them by those that had gone before.
Rhia breathed deeply, steeling herself. Here was a test. How would Kaith receive a girl Candidate. Somehow the giant Queen knew that the thief was a girl. Would she let any of the girls touch the eggs?

Along with all the Candidates, except Jakel, Jessa was waiting her turn to hopefully be allowed to touch the eggs. Since time seemed to be dragging, Jessa stood next to Valkoran and tried to chat with him but she was just to distracted. She'd been excited up until now, but now nerves were tying her belly in knots. She'd just turned to Valkoran and asked, "What do you think is taking so long?" when Rhia's flit came back to the candidates. iIt was bearing a piece of hide and she watched as searched for what it thought was the right candidate. When it hovered in front of her, Jessa took the piece of hide from it and read her name.
The knots that had been growing in her belly tightened and she had to take a deep breath to calm herself. She handed the piece of hide to Valkoran, smiled at him nervously and then made her way the rest of the way to the hatching cavern. It only took her a short while and then she was at the entrance to the hatching cavern. She could feel the heat of the place and suprisingly that helped ease her nerves. She walked up to Rhia, smiled and then turned her attention back to the cavern and made her way in.
Once inside she bowed politely, and as she'd been instructed, to the bronzes guarding the cavern, the eggs and the obviously agitated queen. As Rhia said, the bronzes allowed her in and she made her way slowly towards Kaith, stopping where she saw Jakel's footprints stopped. To Kaith, Jessa didn't bow like a boy, she gave a deep curtsy as her mother had taught her to do. As she did so she said in a clear respectful tone, "Good day Gold Kaith."
As she rose from her curtsy she continued, "I hope you and Weyrwoman Christae are doing well today. It really is an honor to come before you in hopes of seeing your beautiful eggs." And that led up to the tricky part of the conversation... She took a small steadying breath and finished, "My name is Jessalyn and I hope to stand for one of your eggs if you wish it. Also, if you allow it, I would be greatly honored to touch your eggs." Her voice only quavered a little bit but it wasn't with fear or nerves, it was with excitement. Even if the great queen rejected her, Jessa would be proud and ecstatically happy to say she'd even been in the hatching cavern and had seen the eggs and the queen.

Jakel wanted to talk as he passed Jessalyn on his way out of the Hatching cavern. He could see she was nervous and he wanted to tell her how amazing it was. Unfortunately, Jakel could not bring himself to do it. His hands were practically shaking with excitement.
He stared at his right hand, the on that had touched all of the eggs. He could still feel the feint heartbeats of the eggs. He couldn't believe he had touched real dragon eggs. He passed through the guarding bronzes once again.
Jakel wanted to jump as he saw all of the other candidates. "That was amazing." He whispered happily as he settled back down.
*********************
Hali looked worriedly at the Weyrwoman's flitt, wondering who was next. She sighed with a relief and disappointment as the next was Jessalyn. She was relieved that she didn't have to go yet, but was also disappointed that she had to wait longer. Hali smiled as Jakel came back, excitement plastered all over his face.

Gylfie chirped encouragingly to the girl as she accepted the parchment. The silvery-green colored flitt studied the other Candidates for a bit and then vanished. She returned to her mistress, hiding under the Candidate Master's hair so that the big ones would not see her. The tiny creature did not want to incite the wrath of the biggest one.
Christae smiled in relief when Jakel walked away unscathed and bubbling with awe and excitement. She gave an encouraging smile and nod to Jessalyn when the girl walked into the caverns. She was glad that the girl remembered everything that Rhia had instructed them to do before the Touching Ceremony.
Kaith half-crouched so that she was at eye-level with the girl. Jessalyn was easily dwarfed by the Queen's eye. She studied the girl for several long minutes before raising her head again.
You are a curteous one youngling. My rider is well and my own health is good. I trust that you had nothing to do with the theft of my egg? The Queen's voice sounded in Jessa's head almost gently so that she didn't startle the girl.

Jessa's heart started to race as Kaith crouched down and studied her. When the gold's mind sounded in her mind it wasn't as angry as Jessa expected it to be and she relaxed a bit. She shook her head and answered, "No ma'am, I would never do such a horrible thing." And she truly wouldn't, she'd been just as shocked and angry as everybody else in the Weyr.
As she waited for Kaith to make her final judgement, Jessa stood still and tried to control her excited nerves. Normally when she was excited she would fidget but she knew now was not the time and so she forced her hands not to pick at the hem of her shirt and she forced her feet not to swish around the sand she was standing on.
As she concentrated on not moving her feet, the fact that they were very warm suddenly hit her and it made it even harder not to fidget. The hatching sand were hot! She'd heard they needed to be warm for the eggs to develope and hatch properly but she'd never expected them to be hot!

Did that girl just ask her? No one asked her anything, they always knew that she would either not answer or just mess up her explanation so bad you couldn't understand what she was rambling about. She opened her mouth, then closed it, biting her lip. Wasn't this supposed to be her new, fresh start? Somewhere she could give her personality a reality check? If it was, then how come she was still the same old Hasima.
"We were learning what to say and do when you greet a Queen, but in this case when you greet Kaith.", She paused for a moment to recall what they were taught and continued in a voice that could barely count as a whisper because it was so soft, "Bow the the bronzes that are near the entrance. When you reach Kaith, you have to stay a bit away from her and greet her with respect and flatter her because she deserves both. Don't forget to bow though. Ask if she and her rider are healthy and ask if you can touch her eggs. If she agrees, bow and then move towards the eggs but go slowly and wait for Rhia or the Weyrleaders signal. When you leave, bow again and then return here for a lesson.".
She had to admit, despite the fact she fumbled a few times with the words and spoke slowly, she was proud of herself. Back at home, she would have never done such a thing like this. Mostly because no one would talk to her of course, but still, it was an improvement.
She watched as a flitt appeared, heading towards another candidate. She also watched as the girl left and headed towards the hatching grounds, no doubt. Once again, her nerves and anxiety came back, waiting to see who would be called next.

"Thank you........um....what is your name?", Kira asked the girl. She looked over her, she seemed a bit of the nervous type like that blue rider but perhaps not as severe. Then again this was just a vague observation, only through time would Kira know how each person was. She watched as the next candidate went in. The first was an amusing one, so excited he knocked over his chair. She could tell he would be fun. This girl seemed a bit nerved. Then again, each person would have a different reaction. Every person was unique in their own way. She turned her attention back to the girl though she couldn't help thinking in the back of her head when her other stuff would arrive and that something in particular. She mentally shook it off and paid attention to the girl again. She did, after all, ask her a question.

Perin overheard the explanation that Hasima gave the new girl and waited unti after she had introduced herself to add a comment. "Hasima, don't forget to tell her why everyone is on edge." His deep voice was soft. He turned to the new girl.
"My name is Perin. I am a Master Tanner and a Candidate here. The reason why everyone is keyed up is because a couple of sevendays ago one of the Queen's eggs was stolen from the Hatching Grounds while she was out feeding. She was so furious that the Weyrwoman had to sedate her in midair. It was pretty dramatic. The bronzes had to catch her and she has been fuming ever since. We almost didn't get the chance to touch the eggs."

Kinest scrawled his name on the hide when it came to him and followed the others silently. He watched as one went into the sands and came back unscathed and smiled. Perhaps it wouldn't be such a terrible time after. He wondered when his name would be called. He tilted his head and stared at the ceiling trying to remember how many times to bow and what to say. He was never good at speaking but if it came to being mauled or speaking, he'd pick speaking. ~~~~~ Sorcha glared as she moved through the lower caverns. One bad thing about laying low was she never knew when anything was going on. She was always a tad late to events or chores which helped most of the time, no one was there by the time she came along. She walked into the room right as the Candidates started leaving. She adjusted her face, it wouldn't be good to be caught glaring around the on edge queen and weyr. She moved towards the back of the line and followed the others. While everyone talked she just stayed to the back and folded her arms wondering what she was going to do. She had now figured out they were visiting the queen one by one...what if the queen recognized her somehow? She shivered then sighed, what would be, would be.
(( So sorry this post is late but stuff happens. Family member died, had to read three book and write two papers these last two weeks along with regular homework. Hopefully my characters can slip in and still work. If not I'll wait for next -shrugs- ))

She turned around and noticed the male candidate talking to them. "Such a horrid thing to happen. I am guessing the egg still isn't found", she said in a shocked tone and a hand pressed to her chest. She then composed herself and spoke again, "Thank you for informing me further Perin. Are all the male candidates as informative and social as yourself or am I just lucky to have you around?". She smiled at him. "I am Kira by the way. I just arrived here", she said to him. She hoped Hasima hadn't felt left out and would enter in the conversation, she felt bad she turned her attention away from her so quickly. She would hate it if someone felt left out and found it would be rude to talk to someone one minute then totally dismiss them and talk to someone else the next. She hoped Hasima hadn't felt this way or was offended. She wanted to make a good first impression with everyone, it wouldn't be smart to have everyone against you the first day. She shook off such thoughts and looked at this new male that approached her, wondering how interesting he would be. She had to admit the male candidate that went to touch the eggs first amused her, but what of this guy? He didn't seem like he was easily excited as the other one. Well he hadn't knocked any chairs or anything over anyway. She gave a mental chuckle to herself.

Miya walked along the hallways. She heard that the candidates were being allowed to touch the eggs. She wanted to see this, though she didn't know why. A part of her wanted to make sure everything went right, another part just wanted to see if anyone would get mauled and the culprit would be found. Tonu sat on her right shoulder while Kila sat on her left shoulder.
She walked up to the group of candidates and looked them over. No one seemed to suspicious, except for Sorcha of course. She could swear that girl looked similar to the shadowy figure from Tonu's images, but it had been to dark and she had no evidence. Sorcha had also been wandering the deserted hallways that were off limits to all. Either way, Miya hated that girl and always probably would. Her dark eyes narrowed into a glare before she looked away.
Her eyes turned to the protecting bronzes. She wondered what it would be like when Reinath flew. What it would be like when she clutched and had her own hatching.
That time has not come yet, mine. Reinath's voice filled her head, causing a smile to appear on the Weyrlings face, but it was a small and barely noticable smile, of course.
I know, Reinath, I know. The smile dissappeared as she faced the hatching grounds, wondering how things were going.

"Oh, um, right." Hasima said, blushing. She knew there was something she would forget. So much for being proud of remembering everything. Then again, she did remember quite a bit. "You're right, it's still yet to be found." Hasima said, nodding slightly as she wondered if and when the egg was found. And who would take one. She knotted her fingers and said softly, "I'm Hasima.". Her eyes searched the room, wondering if the flitt came yet to pick the next candidate, wondering who it would be and what would happen.
