Akki and Hasima, which surprised herself, started to laugh as Jakel flew out of his seat again. Akki laughed loudly and happily, while Hasima laughed quietly and unsure of herself. "Sorry Jakel, I didn't think you would fall. Get some weight maybe and then you won't next time." She said, poking him happily. She nodded to Jakel's answer, that seemed about right.
Hasima opened her mouth and said quietly, so quietly Akki had to strain to hear her, "I agree with him. I don't think you could choose.". She hoped it didn't seem like she was trying to get out of the question, but the boy, Jakel, said exactly what she was thinking.

"See, even she agrees." He hadn't heard the first sentance, he only saw her mouth because he was laughing so hard. Then he stopped and caught the second sentace. Then he turned to Akki. "Oh yea?" He stood up and shoved Akki, he did not do it lightly either. He wanted to make sure she fell.

"Shards." Akki groaned as she saw Jakels hands coming towards her. Her hands gripped the seat tightly, the knuckles turning white as she felt him push her. She would have falled off the seat, there was no doubt about that, except Hasima too saw what was coming. And for once in her life she moved quickly and placed her foot on Akki's back so the rider was steadied from that. "Ha! Thanks Hasima!" Akki said, thankfully.
Hasima nodded slightly. Perhaps the weyr was changing her. Before she would have never moved that quickly, or have the guts to speak up. Maybe it was changing her. And for the better.

"Hey!" He shouted at Hasima, but it was a friendly shout. Jakel sat back down. "I will get you Akki. Maybe not today but I will get you."

"Hush and keep your eyes on the clutching Jakel. We both know you won't get me, I'm too fast." She said, laughing softly at that false statement. "Besides, as long as Hasima is here to keep her foot on my back, you won't get me." She said, throwing her arm around Hasima, who stiffened at this action.

From the tone of his voice, Jessalyn knew that Valkoran didn't believe his story any more than she did. She quit scanning the crowds for possible objects of his attention and turned her eyes towards him. When she did, she noticed that the color in his cheeks had gone and now he was eyeing the eggs eagerly.
Turning her gaze back to the eggs again, she looked over all of them and realized she had a very hard decision to make as to which was her favorite. As she thought, she "hmm"ed a bit. Finally she decided that of the eggs laid so far, she had two favorites. Clearing her throat she finally answered Valkoran, "The blue one that looks like marble or the one that looks like an amethyst, I can't quite decided. They're all so beautiful though I don't know how anybody could just have one favorite."
She really was awstruck by the beauty of the eggs and she couldn't help but wonder if all dragon's clutches were so striking. She'd heard that they varied in colors but she'd never heard of eggs that looked like these did. And if these eggs were so unique, what made them that way? Not bothering to take her eyes off the eggs, Jessa asked Valkoran just that. "Have you heard if all dragon eggs look like these or are these ones different? If they're different, why?"

Valkoran grinned at her question, forgetting all discomfort. "You must have been dazed, because I already answered that question." And he had, when she had first come up to him. "I said that most dragon eggs are colored the colors of the rainbow and shades of brown and gold. And there are no eggs recorded that I've read of that look like this." He wondered at that; what did it mean? Were there to be more mutation colors this Hatching? The last Hatching had produced a white and a copper. What other kinds could there be? He decided to voice this to Jessa.
"They have a copper dragon and a white dragon, you know," he said. "Maybe these eggs mean more new colors. Of course, that's all speculation, but it's an idea. There's certainly nothing written anywhere I've read about these types of eggs."

When Valkoran asked her question Jessa laughed at herself and said, "Now I remember you saying that, sorry." Some days her brain was like a very disorganized filing system; everything had its particular place but she couldn't always find what she was looking for. Forgetting something that had been told to her only a short while ago was a perfect example...
The more Valkoran talked, the more fascinated Jessa became. Mutated colors? Really? She'd heard rumors about some not so normal looking dragons but she hadn't seen them herself. There were so many dragons and her time was busy helping with the runners. Not many dragons flew over the stables otherwise the runners would all go mad. In any case, she couldn't help but wonder at Valkoran's words and all she was able to say in answer was, "That'd be really interesting.... What colors do you think might come out of those eggs?"

"I don't know," replied Valkoran in a near whisper. "I hear Benden has a silver queen. But I don't see any eggs that might be coveted like a queen egg." He stopped to think about what other colors might be possible. "Maybe a red dragon." He almost giggled. "Or maybe a pretty shade of pink or purple." Now wouldn't that be odd! And especially if it were male.

Jessa did giggle at Valkoran's suggestions, they were so outrageous that she couldn't help herself. "A pink dragon Valkoran? Wouldn't that be a sight!" Then the same thought occured to her as had to him and she broke into a fit of laughter. When she finally caught her breath again she giggled again and said, "What if it were male?" The rider of that dragon, if it were a male rider, would likely try everything in his power to dye the poor thing's hide any other color but pink.... Just that image sent her into another fit of laughter, this one was shorter though.
As she had laughed, Jessa had leaned into Valkoran for support to keep from falling from her seat. She didn't realize just how much of her body was tucked up against his right away but when she did, she scooted away a little bit. It had only been for support after all, nothing more... Now it was her turn to blush ever so slightly.

Valkoran chalked Jessa's pinkish face up to the fact that they were both laughing so hard; his face was probably pink, too. After having to lean into each other for several minutes, they finally caught their breath somewhat and managed not to fall out of their seats. Valkoran let out one last appreciative sigh before finally catching his breath again. However, he couldn't help but grin at the idea. A pink dragon-- how absurd! But the truth was that it seemed that in this time before the Tenth Pass, you just couldn't tell. He trailed off from that thought to think about riding astride a dragon, flaming thread and winking in and out of between, like the stories he'd heard as a child. He wondered if the stories had had the same effect on Jessa... He looked over to her. She seemed to have the same look in her eye...

Kaith's belly no longer looked egg heavy. The Queen probably only had a few more eggs left to lay as she rested again for a few moments. Christae could feel the phantom contractions lessen and could feel the weariness from the great Queen. "I think this is about it Sh'iron." Kaith's next egg was a smoky pink and grey egg. It was a dusky mix of pale grey and pale pink. The egg that followed took a litle longer for the Queen to lay. It looked like a purple version of the stone called Agate. The following egg was almost like the Pale Jade egg. This one was darker and had forest gree speckles along its bright surface. The next egg was mottled, almost like the egg of a tunnel snake but no tunnel snake had ever laid an egg so large, and the humans would be in trouble if a tunnel snake as big as a dragonet ever hatched. Kaith's last egg was her twenty-third egg. It looked as if lightning was streaking down the egg. There were jagged sections of varying shades of purple and silver down the length of the egg. Kaith spent time positioning her eggs and then lay down to rest. Christae turned to the others. "She is finished laying her eggs." She was proud of her Queen. She had a large clutch. ((if we get any more candidates i will change the number and add a few more eggs but this is good for now))

Sh'iron smiled and patted Christae's shoulder. "Fine clutch, Kaith!" He called out to the Queen. Then he whispered into his mate's ear, "Too bad there isn't a Queen Egg. But atleast we have two mature Queens." The Weyrleader raised his head, and smiled broadly at the clutch before him.

((Two mature queens but only one mature queen-rider. XD))
"Look! She is done!" Jakel practically shouted the words.
Miya glared at the candidate as he shouted. Everyone knew she was done, the Weyrwoman had just announced it. She stood up and headed for the Weyrling barracks, but stood at the edge of the tiers.

((So sorry for not posting a lot! I was on vacation.)) Chera blinked, surprised. She must have dozed off while the Queen had been laying. Now she was finished, and there were twenty three eggs now on the Sands. She sighed a little at the absence of a golden egg, but it didn't keep her down for too long. A gold wouldn't Impress her anyway, so why have one so tantalizingly close?
Vissou too was surprised by the ending of the clutching. The many varied colors of the eggs confused him. He'd always thought that eggs were the same color, with the exception of the golden Queen eggs. These were all different shades, and it was anybody's guess as to what would hatch out of what egg. Vissou wasn't actually sure that he wanted to know.

Viron looked and scanned over all the visible eggs. He counted twenty three. A good sized clutched. He gazed over the eggs several times, staring in awe at the brilliant display of colors they beheld. "In all my life, I've never seen eggs as colorful as this." Viron whisped out loud. How many candidates were there? The less there were, the better chance he had at Impressing one of the dragonets from this clutch.

Anassa had remained silent through the clutching after they had been asked to move to the tiers. Her pipes lay forgotten in her hand as she watched the gorgeous display of eggs arrive on the sands. She heard the others talking but she didn't pay attention to the conversation.
After the clutching was finished she raised her pipes to her lips and began to play. Her song carried out over the stands and echoed in the large cavern. The song was one that spoke of beauty, and vibrant life. The terrible burden placed on dragonkind and the glory of the great creatures.

Viron smiled when he heard the music. "And, all that's left to wait for is these eggs to hatch." Viron said, streching his arms. He needed some friends. More than just candidate friends. Rider friends, if he could.

Akki laughed, flicked the back of Jakel's head and said, "You just pointed out something that was very obvious Jakel.". She counted the eggs on her fingers and said, "Twenty three eggs. All different and yet the same. This is what I believe should be called a 'Miracle Clutch.".
Hasima was looking around nervously, hoping her eyes didn't catch anyone else's. She watched as a girl glared at Jakel as he made his statement and nervously said to the people she was sitting with, "You are getting some dirty looks...Jakel.". She paused before she said his name, trying to recall it.

"Hey! Stop that." Jakel stood up when he was flicked at. "Yes I am, and I am blame it all on Akki." He laughed. "Come on, Wolf. Run for it." He grabbed her hand and pulled her off the tiers. He ran across the Hatching sands and headed for the candidate barracks.
