Kinest padded through the unusually quiet halls chewing on a piece of bread he had filtched. He thought about going back to the Candidate Barracks then wrinkled his nose at the thought of the dirty covers. He had been eating in bed a lot lately. It seemed people didn't stay in there too often so that is where he spent a bit of time.
He tilted his head at the sound of voices and altered his path to look in the room. It was the sandy room, it would have been better if there was water in the middle of it because it was so warm. He walked forward and looked in. A big shiny dragon, lots of people, and shiny rocks...the eggs. He moved towards the stands, the warm sand hot against his feet. He would sit and watch the big dragon drop an egg and fuss over it and smile to himself. They were all rather pretty.

Wolf nearly tripped herself once having been unexpectedly pulled by Jakel to wards Akki, the Blue rider. "Hello there," she nodded to the girl, tilting her head to the side some as she looked to G'han as well. She knew that some people preferred not to be noticed so her attention was withdrawn from G'han and back to Jakel, soon finding that G'han wasn't in the happiest of moods from bits and pieces of his and Akki's conversation. At the mentioning of herself being one of Jakel's best friends she couldn't help but be above and beyond happy.
She watched as the latest two eggs were laid, her eyes widening as she tried to comprehend what sort-of colored hatchling could possibly come out of them! "They're fascinating Kaith," she said aloud, her smile fairly large. She looked up on Jakel, seeing that he was enjoying this moment just as much as she. "I'm glad we're here, otherwise we would have never got another opportunity like this,"she added more quietly. She was still looking up on him, soon clearing her throat lightly as she looked back to the wondrous clutch. ________________________________________________- (( Dun dun dun... XD ))
A blond-haired boy of 17 turns came up on the sands, having heard the talk of a clutch in the boys barracks. He had to see for himself, to see whether or not it had been a rumor, though he had already confirmed it in his mind as true from the sight of the large crowd. "Excuse me," he'd say politely as he made his way past Candidate's and Riders. He soon was nearest the front, though did his best to be standing on his own, not much of a socialist. His blue eyes scanned over the eggs, "I have never seen anything like this before..." he said to himself, reaching his full height as he stood straight. The boy appeared anywhere from 5'10 to 5'12, though possibly a bit taller. He crossed his arms, pulling them tightly against his rib cage.
He hadn't spent more then a full day here, not knowing any one at all, except the Green Search rider Nira. She was a rather pleasant girl, in his opinion. His eyes caught on the last of the egg, admiring what appeared like a constellation on its shell.

Valkoran smiled to see Jessalyn come right to him, but he knew part of it was that she didn't know anyone else. He took her hand and squeezed it reassuringly, knowing the large crowd of strangers was bothering her. "Beautiful, aren't they? I might bond with one of those..." His voice trailed off as he thought about the possibility. "I've never heard of eggs like these, either. They seem to be rather unconventional. I've read that the usual colors are the colors of the rainbow and shades of brown and gold, but not patterns. This is certainly different." He turned his full attention to Jess. "So how are you this fine morning?"

Jessa felt better at just the touch of Valkoran's hand on hers. She hadn't realized just how comfortable she was having him around until all the tension seeped out of her at his touch. At that realization she found herself looking curiously at Valkoran, the eggs and the crowd completely forgotten.
Unwilling to face the sudden rush of emotion, Jessalyn turned her attention back to the eggs. She was still looking at them when Valkoran started talking about them and she was able to ignore the strange emotions that had overwhelmed her a moment before. She smiled and turned to him when he asked how she was. "I'm alright," she answered, "I was confused what all the fuss was about so I just followed the crowd."

Jakel looked around. "Yeah," he agreed, "and there are so many people." He smiled. Jakel looked at the people, he knew most of them but one of them he had never even seen before. "Who is that?" He asked, pointing in Roxis's direction.
((Bum bum bum...))

(( :3 Real cute Tenma. *Chuckles softly.* )) Wolf had to agree there, there were a ton of people at this clutching. "Yeah... alot..." she said nervously, one to get claustrophobic in large crowds. As Jakel pointed to another boy about his age she shrugged her shoulders, unable to see his face because he was turned away. "No clue..." she said to him, looking back to Jakel with a smile. She didn't want to embarrass herself by saying she was too shy to just waltz right on up to some one and introduce herself. "Have you seen him around before?" she'd then ask, having noticed how purely blond the other boy's hair was.

"I don't know everyone but I have seen most of these people before, but not him. Come on." He once again grabbed her arm and pulled her along towards the boy.
He stopped right in front of the new candidate. "Hi. I am Jakel. What is your name?" He asked curiously. Unlike his friend, Jakel was anything but shy.

"Jakel! If you are going on an adventure, you have to bring me along!" Akki cried out as she spotted Jakel heading over to someone. Excusing herself from Hasima, Akki headed towards her friend who was nonchalantly introducing himself. Hasima nodded, content with the fact that she knew this girl wasn't running away from her but being led away by curiousity.
Akki reached Jakel, rolled her eyes happily at Wolf, before noticing the boy. She had never seen him before, he must be new. Well, that was the reason Jakel was over here introducing himself no doubt. Akki waited to see the boys response before she introduced herself, if she was asked however, otherwise she would just stand there and eavesdrop contently.

Valkoran noticed that Jess, who usually with him was vibrant and talkative, was unusually quiet, but chalked it up to the large crowd and resulting anxiety. He squeezed her hand again briefly after she replied, saying, "There will be quite a few more commotions after the clutch is laid. But I'm glad you came; I was waiting for you. Today would be a good opportunity to speak to someone about the possibility of you standing at the Hatching." He smiled at her, happily taking in the knowledge that he would see her every day for a long time. He had really missed her, and as nice as the people at the weyr stables were, none of them were Jessa.

Jessa was only able to keep from blushing at Valkoran's sqeezing of her hand because her cheeks were already flushed from the heat in the cavern. When he explained that apparently this was normal workings for a Weyr, Jessa couldn't help but flynch. Hold life had been so quiet compared to the Weyr and she'd only been here a matter of days.
When Valkoran brought up the possibility of talking to somebody about her maybe becoming a Candidate like him, Jessa's attention was all on him again. "You really think so?" No matter how many times Valkoran had reassured her in the days since her arrival, Jessa wouldn't quit asking him that until somebody actually told her she'd be allowed to Stand for the next hatching.

Valkoran noticed Jessa wince and laughed. "It's not always this full of noise. Just when big events happen. And don't worry, you can always come with me to the library, it's quiet and no one else is ever in there."
"Yes, I'm sure. We can talk to someone right now. The weyrwoman is over there. If you'll allow me to drag you, we can talk to her about the possibility." Valkoran looked hopefully at Jessalyn.

The library was sounding like a very good idea despite her excitement at possibly getting to be a Candidate. Getting used to so many people was deffinately going to be a chore for Jessa but she was determined to get past her issues with crowds. Just maybe not today...
She was about to beg directions to the library when Valkoran said they could go talk to somebody right then about her being a Candidate. Her eyes grew wide at the prospect and she was already nodding her head when he added that it would be the Weyrwoman they'd be talking to.
Jessa's eyes nearly popped out of her head as she gawked at him. "You're kidding right? The Weyrwoman? I thought... But... The Weyrwoman?" Her words were a jumble and Jessa knew it but she just couldn't help it, Valkoran had just asked if she'd allow him to drag her over to talk to the Weyrwoman! "Are you crazy? Why would she want to talk to somebody like me? I'm just a runner trainer with crazy dreams fostered by my crazy friend that the dragons actually like. I've never even been close enough to a dragon for it to sniff me, let alone do whatever they do to decide if we're worthy as Candidates!"
Her eyes were wide with a bit of panic, this Jessa knew, but in them also shone hope. She wanted so badly to join Valkoran in his Candidate adventure but she was more than a little intimidated by the idea of talking to the Weyrwoman. After much chewing on her lower lip and glancing between the great gold on the sands, her rider, and Valkoran, Jessa nodded her head. "Okay Valkoran, lets go before my nerves make me run for the library even though I have no idea where it is." This last she said with a self teasing tone and a small nervous smile.

The watchwher named candidate stood on her tiptoes before deciding to take a few more steps foreward to the clutch, though not very close. Enough to see, Rifenjesk knew the habits of a clutching dragon. If she was lucky it woulf squish her. Yes, defiently curious eggs. A slight grinned played to her lips, the eggs seemed each different from each other. And she was one for indivdualism. her light eyes contracted as the moved from each one. Yes, each were own their own little marvel. Such a feeling spined her wanting to witness each of there hatchings. --

G'han saw blonde haired boy push past him and move closer to the eggs. He shrugged and went over to greet the new comer. He was someone he hadn't seen before. He found to his suprise others did the same. "Hey my name is G'han of bronze Gerenanth", he said introducing himself and held out his hand to shake they boy's.

"Yes, the weyyrwoman," Valkoran confirmed. "She would very much want to talk to you. You see those eggs?" He gestured over to the sands where the queen was hovering protectively over them. "Those are the future of her weyr. You may be the someone to Impress one of them, and if you're not there, that dragonet won't survive. If the dragons will take you, she needs you to stand at this Hatching, okay?"
He waited patiently, and after much worrying, Jess finally said they should go, before she wherried out. He smiled and took her hand again, leading her around the crowd, not through it, to where Weyrwoman Christae stood. Valkoran bowed. "Weyrwoman Christae. We have not met but I am Candidate Valkoran. My friend here, Jessalyn, is from my hold and came to Dark Moon Weyr hoping to become a Candidate. She wishes to know what she needs to do to determine if she is suitable to Stand." He squeezed Jessa's hand and waited for the weyrwoman's reply.

Kinest continued to silently watch the queen drop eggs. He listened to the talking as well. While he did not speak much he understood speech perfectly. It seemed that some wanted to argue while this pretty gold creature dropped eggs. He wondered if that made the beautiful gold angry.
Here she was doing something that benifitted them and they argued. It seemed that one wanted to join in the candidates too. That was nice. If alot of eggs were dropped they would need more people. As he understood it each egg went to one person. They even thought one might go to him. For some reason they couldn't figure it out beforehand though.

Viron stumbled onto the sands, behind the crowd. "the queen is clutching... hmm" Viron said everso quietly. How could he be so late? He had seen all the, or most, of the Candidates leave the barracks. He just had to some in now. Oh well, it was better than never. Viron looked into the crowd for Jakel. He seemed his friend enough.

Christae kissed her weyrmate. "I will take this as a good omen. The eggs look strange but they look healthy." She turned her attention back to the great gold as she carefully positioned her eggs. Christae took note on which egg was clutched first so that she would be able to see if eggs that were clutched first actually hatched first. She called a drudge to her so that her writing utensils could be fetched along with a sandtable for her to take notes in.
The young WW turned with a sound of suprise when she realized that a Candidate was talking to her. She had not noticed the enormous gathering behind her. She had been too intent on her beloved gold and her magnificent eggs. "Hello." She smiled at the two Candidates. She listened attentively and then held out her hand to shake.
"I am Weyrwoman Christae. Kaith is my Queen." She smiled. "I think you know that already. It seems that I have been lax in my duties. I normally make a point to welcome each and every Candidate to the Weyr. It is a pleasure to meet you Valkoran and Jessalyn."
She turned to the girl. "Normally Candidates are transferred from other Weyrs or Searched but we will not turn anyone away from the Weyr. Dragons usually know if you are suitable for a dragon but only the hatchling will determine if you are truly acceptable. Each dragonet looks for something different in a person so someone we expect to Impress might be left standing and another who might be the worst Candidate will Impress. You are welcome to become a Candidate. I can have someone show you around. Candidate classes will begin soon since Kaith is finally clutching. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me."
Her brown eyes were warm and caring. There were lines on her young face that were not there when she first Impressed the great Queen but those were caused by the worries of her job. She pushed her brown hair back and glanced around at the other Candidates. "I will have to make sure to introduce myself to the other Candidates. I should always find the time to meet the people that will one day bond with my Queen's children to help protect all of Pern from the menace of Threadfall."

When Valkoran introduced Jessa as a friend from his hold that had come to DarkMoon hoping to be a Candidate she wanted to correct him. She had come to DarkMoon to be with him since she had run away from home. It was he who had put the idea of becoming a Candidate in her head. Oh well, it was just a technicality. The Weyrwoman had said she was welcome to become a Candidate and at that moment that was all that really mattered.
Heart soaring, Jessa had to thank the WW and while she was in the process she explained herself anyway even though she hadn't planned on it. "Thank you so much Weyrwoman Christae," she started, smiling from ear to ear, then continued, "You don't know how much it means to me to have you welcome me here. I came here not to be a Candidate, though when Valkoran asked me if I wanted to be I couldn't resist saying yes. I came because things had gone badly at our home Hold for me and Valkoran was the only person I knew that wasn't living at the Hold. It was only logical I come where my friend was." That said she beamed a smile at Valkoran and then turned back to smile at the Weyrwoman. She couldn't believe how things were turning out. Eight seven-days ago, when Valkoran had left, Jessa never would have dreamed she'd be joining him.

Valkoran listened as Jessa went into the explanation he'd been trying to avoid and rolled his eyes. However, Jess was happy and he couldn't complain; she was a Candidate now! This had been what they both wanted.
After the weyrwoman replied, he and Jess returned to their spot a way back from the crowd. He grinned at her. "You know, I was trying not to go into that. This is her special day." He squeezed her shoulder affectionately. "However, it doesn't matter at this point because you're a Candidate. And didn't I tell you? She said exactly what I said earlier: the dragons might need you."
He turned to adore the eggs again. "So which one do you like best so far?" Looking at them again was a new experience, because he was looking at them from a different perspective-- not only could one of them be his, but one of them could be Jessa's as well.
