The next egg to shatter simply shivered and then split along the cracks that had slowly been building along it's icy blue surface. It was hard to tell that this one had been hatching because of the way the blue "cracks" streaked across the surface of the shell. The dragonet within was hard to decipher from the egg itself until she stepped out and began wandering around the sands with a hungry creel. This was the first female dragon to emerge from this clutch. She was a pale, icy blue that looked almost crystalline. There were faintly darker blue "cracks" along her hide. She was feminine, but not delicate. She had the look of a crystal, deceptively pretty but strong and hard underneath. The lines of her body were lightly muscled-looking but flowing lines. There were a few spots on the edge of her back that had a slight brownish discoloration, as if some grains of sand had become caught in the crystal as it formed. Her wings were very distinctive, with darker blue edges on the sails closest to the membrane. The inner parts of the sail were lighter but not as light as the actual edges of the bones that held the sails. The bones that held the sails were the same ice blue as her hide. She would like to flirt and flaunt her sexuality but in a more subtle way. She would pick her partners carefully and usually be mindful of her rider's preferences and peace of mind. She would prefer to have a steady mate rather than multiple mates like some greens and other female blues. She would be the size of a mid-small blue or larger green. She would be very sweet and affectionate, especially with people that her rider likes. There would be times when she would be vain and fussy but for the most part, she would be a rather laid back dragon.

Kalaht stared in amazement at the dragon that just hatched. It was a...a---ice blue almost white! His mouth wide open. He was speechless. She was absolutely beautiful. Was she his? Perhaps, the blue one. As he was growing up, he was talked down to and picked on by bullies to the extreme. The kids at home would stab him behind the back and betray him rather than be his friends but he did make a few friends here at the Weyr. There was Kegin and Sinic and Fin, the Harper's son. He was glad to have them and hopefully he would keep them.
Kalaht was indeed an odd fellow. He didn't know what dragon would be his, if any. Why did they choose HIM?! He would be the most UNlikely one to Impress or so he thought. If just one dragon, -just one- would come up to him and choose him, he would be ecstatic. The waiting was over bearing.
He was tired of people walking all over him. It was time to act and getting a possible dragon was all the more better. He was proud to be chosen. Despite his short comings, he was still excited. Even though, he had doubts he was still hopeful.

Why was she always late! Elanee growled as she rushed down the hall, hopping to slap the required sandals on her feet. Late, late, late! Elanee skidded in the sandals, nearly tripping down the rough hewn stairs. First the Touching and now the eggs were actually hatching, what was it about this clutch that was always catching her off guard? Elanee burst onto the Hatching Ground, huffing and red cheeked, as much from frustration as exertion. After all, Rhia had been making them run ridiculous amounts every morning, she really should be in some sort of shape by now.
A black hatched out followed by a green... was that a male? Elanee narrowed her eyes but remained in the half circle of white robbed Candidates. She wiggled her toes and could not help but become infected with the excitement that was permeating the air. It was like a blanket filled with tunnelsnakes. Warm and comforting, but at the same time wildly exciting. One had to be careful and pay attention of a bite would be the least you had to worry about.
Then a brown hatched out... at least he looked normal, if slightly orange. A steady looking beast that one, no doubt an asset to the Weyr. Elanee glanced around once more and caught sight of that orangey egg hatching and a.... blue came out. Well he too looked like a lovely, healthy beast. The tiny Candidate looked up to Kaith, a small smile touching her lips. She found herself wishing the giant golden Queen a silent congratulations.
Her breath caught in her throat and she had to remember to breath once more. Hatchings, everyone loved them. They promised hope and a future to the Weyr. Elanee thought she could feel her heart beating in her chest, pounding in concert with the dragons' humming. What a day this was.

[Short one, sorry. Hanging with friends]
Naret kept an eye on each dragonet that broke out of the shells, applauding when someone impressed and then quickly looking back to the eggs and dragonets. The pace of the hatching was going like wildfire! It was hard to keep up with what was going on.
[Wow, real short. Sorry! You know it doesn't happen often with me]

Catilena turned to Faine and gave her a big grin.
"I know! I love hatchings, I really do. I have stood at Impressions many times, but I still get a huge thrill from it. Seeing all these dragon babies hatch and find their riders, sometimes they even plow into people! It's fun to watch!" She said excitedly.
Catilena watched the dragons still hatching from their shells, it seemed to take forever, even though it only started a little while ago. She grinned madly, Mosaic and her sister's fire-lizards chittering like mad above her.

Harper Klivin
The surplus of younger children about the Weyr, could more than likely be placed on the new Harpers head. With their restless shuffling, sweaty brows and drowsy yawns, not even the best Harper in Pern could encourage them to learn. So with promises of maybe moving tomorrows lesson to the lake area, he dismissed them. His own feet itching to seek out his son and possibly a cool drink or two. After a quick change of shirt, he was roaming round the lower and blissfully cooler corridors, when Klinorfin found him. Eyeing the flushed and out of breath lad, he started to wondered if he should interrogate his son or not, when he heard it. The long reverberating hum announcing the start of the hatching. Ear twitching, it was an overexcited tug of his hand that focused him. “Sorry Fin…we can’t be late can we,” He grinned, his long stride carrying him out and in the direction of the Hatching sands.
..
Klinorfin "Fin"
Fin’s eyes danced in delight as he just managed to resist dragging his father. Now that would’ve been a site, he ginned. His ears and eyes drinking in the sights around him. From the hum that seemed to vibrate even the air and the stone around them. To the comedy that was the rushing candidates, running one way and then another. A flurry of white robes and sandals. Like a flock of headless wherries…He grinned, barely managing to suppress a hint of jealousy at what they must be feeling. Also to get the best view of the hatchlings…shell’s some of the eggs were around his height. He breathed, his eyes widening as he looked to the stands, the dragons, the queen, the hatchlings and the impressed.
Noticing his father had also stopped, he resisted tugging at Klivin’s knots. “There’s room up there…” He pointed out finally dragging his father to the stands. Taking their seats Fin found himself on the edge of his, bright green eyes drinking in…everything!
..
Bicran
One of the aptly named, ‘headless wherries’, was Bicran. Whom moments earlier had been watering the runners. Looking down at himself he grimaced, if anything he had to make himself appear more presentable today. He thought dodging through the oncoming crowds. His eyes catching others doing a similar thing, he bolted to the sleeping quarters, grabbing one of the robes off the pegs. In moments he was changed and ready, pausing only to run uneasy fingers through his pale blonde hair.
He could barely suppress an excited shiver as he retraced his steps, his tanned cheeks glowing. To think he’d get another chance…to think the hatching would be today! Eyes widening he paused at the entrance to the Hatching Sands. A few had hatched and impressed already, the tall boy thought, when he was suddenly nudged forward, words of good luck whispered in his ear. Circling around he lost the well wisher, managing instead to spot a familiar brown settle in the tiers. Biting back a grin, he approached the group of male Candidates. Bowing to the queen, he managed a couple overenthusiastic nods to those he knew. Before his eyes were drawn to the clutch and the wondering hatchlings. Please let a young’un chose me…
..
S'en and Folth
The owner of the brown was the illusive S’en, who’d transferred to the Weyr around about the time of the clutching. If anything he’d settled well into Dark Moon, forming a slight reputation as a glutton despite his slim frame. Looking up to the tiers he easily picked out Folth, who hummed eagerly to the new hatchings. Smiling to himself he slid in towards the end of one of the stands, his goldenbrown eyes seeking out Bicran. Spotting the towering lad, he grinned, truly overjoyed at seeing his old friend out on the sands again. I can only hope his dragon is out there somewhere… He thought, looking to those already hatched and then to the eggs. To think his Folth had once been that small…

The striped blue rose from his sitting position in his egg shards and resolutely trotted to where the Candidates were waiting. He had come to the conclusion that creeling demandingly would not get him food. He studied the boys, dismissing each one. None of them felt right, but he knew His was here. He had assumed His would be among the boys, but perhaps His was standing near the girls? He made his way to the girls, his wings were still spread out to try but they were drying fast. He stopped in front of Jerodyn, cocking his head from side to side in curiosity. Finally he seemed to decide that he had looked enough. He set his forelegs on her legs and peered up at her. J'dyn, your Tirzinth is hungry. Why didn't you come to feed me when I called Admin's Note:
OOC: www.tektek.org/color/ centered start color: 000080 end color: 3299CC

This egg gave a great rock, after being still during the whole hatching and split into 4-5 large pieces. The dragonet inside was a pretty, dark toned green and very feminine. There were a few variations in her hide, like any dragon. There were darker and lighter spots. She'd be a dainty but feisty green with a temper that would flare up when she would be teased by her friends among the dragons. She could be loving and sweet unless her anger was provoked and she could be very passionate. She would be on the smaller side of the green scale, just below medium range, but lithe and very agile. Her wings are streamlined, but just a little longer than most of her sisters. Even though she'd normally be a pretty sweet green, now she was anxious to find her chosen before her sister and brothers stole her! She raced off, and wound up knocking down Faine. The crowd gasped as candidate and dragon wound up tumbling in the sand. There was just a bit of blood on her claws. Faine was left with a couple of dragon scratches on her legs. It wasn't serious, just shocking because it was the first mauling of the hatching. The green tried to shake the sand from her still-wet body, but it was no use. It was stuck on her frame. She sat in the sand creeling piteously. Elanee! Please help your Niyth. There is yucky sand on me and I hunger! That girl was in my way. I couldn't get to you.At the same time as the dark green hatchling was shaking the sand from her body, the mottled egg cracked and a hatchling stuck it's smoky brown head out from the hole it had created. He let out a disappointed chirp when he realized that his whole body was not completely out. His head was very clean-lined but his eyes whirled swiftly with annoyance as he tried to hustle his way out of the egg. Finally the rest of the egg cracked to release his body. However, there was egg shell that stayed stuck around his head like one of the cones Terran vets put on an injured canine to keep it from scratching the wound, or one of those great frilled creatures that have faded even from Terran myths.

Another rider but it wasn't Kalaht. He was beginning to think that he wasn't going to Impress at all. He sighed, disappointed once more. A tear from his eye emerged from his face. Not of joy, but of sadness. He wanted to runaway and hide but something stood firm in his mind. Something that he didn't understand but always knew. He stayed but he was still scared. Brave or not, he -had- to know. He scanned the Sands, anxiously awaiting. There were only a few eggs left.
With the hope of Impression, he stood his ground and fought the urge to run. He always ran form things. Well THIS time it stops. THIS time he will stay. He loved all living things...especially dragons. He waited all his 13 Turns to becoming something great. To prove them wrong...ALL of them wrong!
Now, this is the moment. This moment could change. He watched. 'Positive thoughts.....positive thoughts, Kalaht! I WILL Impress. I WILL show them all I CAN be something!' he thought. He wiped the tear away and stood with a new confidence, a new freedom he never had before.

Faine laughed softly, “Oh, I don’t know if I like the idea of being plowed into.” It was too bad that she couldn’t sense the foreshadowing this conversation held. “But I agree with the thrill part.” No matter if she Impressed or didn’t, Faine wanted to be present for hatchings – whether on the sands or in the stands. The concept of watching little dragons finding their bonded? Thrilling! No, more than thrilling!
Faine’s eyes stayed on the striped blue; his hide was such a curious color. She watched as he more or less dismissed all of the boys and then practically latched onto a girl. Oh! Another female bluerider! She clapped loudly for the pair, missing the fact that the green and purple egg had fallen apart to reveal a green. The redhead was about to turn her attention back to the eggs when something collided with her legs, causing them to buckle as the girl and green rolled in the sand for a bit. Faine ended up on her bottom, dragon claws scrabbling at her legs before wandering off to her bonded, no doubt.
“An ‘excuse me’ would have sufficed.” Faine breathed, not in a rude tone but in one that made it clear that she wasn’t quite expecting to be bowled over. She glanced down at her legs – nothing serious, a few scratches. She pushed herself off of the ground and flashed a smile to Catilena, “Plowing – survived!” She glanced at the green then at Elanee before having her attention retreat to a newly hatched brown.
Faine now knew better than to not pay attention!

Before she knew anything else, her world suddenly narrowed drastically. The only thing that mattered was the pair of rapidly whirling eyes in front of her. Nothing else mattered in that moment, the world froze and Elanee found herself wishing that it would last forever. There were simply no words, her heart expanded into a place she hadn't know was even missing. So this was what it was like. Elanee reached out for the dark green in front of her and laid her hands on the dainty nose. As the words of the other half of her being echoed into her mind, she knew then that her world was forever changed. Nothing would ever be the same again, but... she wouldn't want it to.
Finding the words so very slowly, Elanee mouthed the name of this other part of her. "Niyth..." Yes? Can I eat now... Please! Admin's Note:
Blinking out of her trance, the small girl found herself looking around like a startled wherry, catching sight of Faine, still prone on the ground. She was torn between feeling rather bad and at the same time, feeling all too... well... she didn't really know how she felt. Elanee looked back at the green in front of her, seeing her for the first time, at least with a clearer head.
You were the first egg I touched. And you are the one I wanted. I couldn't let those others have you. The dark green lifted her head to bump it against Elanee's chest and the girl couldn't help but smile like a fool. She wrapped her arms about the hatchling's neck and for a long, very perfect moment, neither moved. Of course, the hunger of a newly hatched dragon was not something that could be ignored for long and Niyth gave El a rather more insistent bump.
Standing up, Elanee did her best to brush the sand off both of them, while Niyth snorted disgustedly at it. In another moment, they moved towards the waiting buckets of freshly killed herdbeast. It was hard to tell which one was more awkward on the sands, with the hatchling wings spread out for balance and Elanee tiping toe very carefully over the hot sands. I want to get clean. Only after I eat. Finding herself giggling like a sun struck Holder, Elanee could only grin at the hatchling in agreement.

Jeri watched as all the new dragons hatched. There were so many on the Sands! She could hardly keep track, but she did see that the black one and the sturdy-looking green found their partners. Despite her usual reservations, she grinned big for them-- they looked so happy that she couldn't help herself. She looked around and quickly found Orena, who looked as excited as she herself was. She sent a smile her way, not sure if the other girl saw. Then she was immersed in the Hatching again, watching the two new blues hatch and wander. She started to wonder if there was going to be a hatchling for her.
But then she felt the pressure on her legs, and looked down, and saw the beautiful sapphire blue looking at her. J'dyn, your Tirzinth is hungry. Why didn't you come to feed me when I called?
"Oh, I'm sorry, Tirzinth!" she exclaimed, bending down to stroke his head as Impression was made. "I didn't hear you before. I promise I will get you some food." She felt his hunger pangs, and realized that he really was starving. As she made her way out of the Hatching grounds, to the area that people were directing her towards, she felt.. included. Like she was in a special club. Like she belonged. That was something she hadn't really felt since she had arrived.
But now I am here and you belong to me. We will always belong with each other. But right now food belongs in my stomach. So can we get that please? Tirzinth asked plaintively, walking a bit ahead of her.
Yes, we can get that, she thought with an amused smile as she followed her dragon-- my dragon! she thought with a mental squeal quite unlike her-- to the food.

Andilay was surprised by the sheer numbers of rapid hatching. And so far... only one.. no, two females? But the first female to hatch, my what a beauty. She didn't think such a one had ever been seen on pern.
She clapped enthusiastically for the newly impressed. When the second brown hatched, she had to smother a laugh. The poor thing had shell stuck all around his neck!! Twas hilarious. But at the sight of the brown, Andilay thought of another, and quickly scanned the stands for her friend.
She smiled as Rayn waved to her, noticing the candidates attention wandering to her. The brown rider smiled back and pointed back toward the eggs. Reminding Andilay where her attention was needed. She wondered what would hatch next... and if it would be her dragon.

Pretty, after pretty, after pretty hatched. And yet, what, only four impressions so far. Were all the candidates even here yet? Admin's Note:
She swore if any of the precious hatchlings betweened she would cry. Cry a lot- for there was no sorrow quite like a life ending so soon after it began.
But Blissy shook her head. Don't think of that, wherryhead! Think about impression!! About your possible little miss... or mister out there! Maybe (hopefully) in one of those shells!! Yes. One of those bright shells. She envied those who had already impressed. But hers would come. Eventually.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
R'khol was sitting somewhere in the middle of the stands, a tad shocked at all the different colors of dragons. The variations of hides.. but they were all beautiful. They were all Kegrith's children.
There you go. That's the right frame of mind.
R'khol smiled, and scratched the back of his head. Well, what could he do, but accept it? This was his home now. With these weyrpeople, riders, weyrlings, and candidates.... candidates. He frowned. One of those candidates looked very familiar.
Blissy stands. I wish her luck with my children.
WHAT?! Admin's Note:
This just wasn't R'khols day.
Iechi remained feeling as though he were watching the hatching through eyes not his own. It was happening so rapidly that he hardly had time in which to process each dragon as it broke the shell. There were browns, blues, a green--a black?--and he was having trouble keeping track of them. It had registered somewhere in his mind that two of the dragons, the 'black' and a green, had Impressed. Impressed to people who were not him, and he was indifferent to it all, besides. He shifted, the sands under his feet hot, his mind hazy with heat and surrealism. In and out, in and out. Inhale, exhale, and so it continued like this. The sound of his breathing was the most real thing to him, of all of it. There were cheers and clapping, and the dragons, they were everywhere. He began to feel caged in. Trapped, and he could not have explained where it had come from, for the life of him. Shaking his head, his pale blond hair fell into those inexplicably blue eyes, and he found himself blinking rapidly, trying to clear his head. Looking up, he saw the dragon nearest to where he stood was the smoky brown, its head encased still in a piece of its shell. It was only then that he began to think somewhat. He wondered what color, if any, he'd Impress. He had already had this planned out, before arriving here. He would Impress bronze, of course. Bronze or a very large brown. Certainly not blue, because that was detrimental to any plans for respect and being in a position that allotted him a chance at even more power, and thus more respect. They would be in awe of him, Iechi, the bronzerider. The brown was what got him thinking once more. Suddenly, the haze began to lift a little. He was here, despite the estranged feelings he had from the event. He might or might not Impress but he would do it well, by the first egg! He would Impress something worthy of him, he knew it. That, or not at all. If he had to stand, he would, just to get that which he wanted. This suddenly seemed more important than standing, or being here. Getting what he wanted seemed to be where he was at. He would let others have the blues, and even the browns, because he needed, and wanted, bronze. He stood up just a little more, noting that not a single bronze had yet to hatch. Well, they would. That was a gold on the sands, wasn't it? She would have at least one bronze in there. If he didn't get bronze, he fancied he'd be on a huge brown. Not one of the smaller or medium sized ones--no, that would simply not suffice for him. He was meant for greater things, was he not? His eyes flitted briefly at the other candidates. They were suddenly competition, of sorts. Even though they had not been prior to these reevaluations, they were now. Still, if his dragon was in there, no one but himself would be worthy of it. Still... xXx Somehow, the dragons here were different from any others she'd seen. Not, to say, that she had seen many hatchings as a runner. Yet, the dragons here had such vibrant and intricate colors, and had that not been a black dragon, unless she was suddenly blind to color, that had hatched first? There was a sense of wonder about this place, something that she couldn't quite place her foot on and yet surely existed. Here she was, a part of it, and what could be more amazing? There were dragons of all kinds on the sands, even if only two had yet to make a decision on who was theirs. Two browns and two blues, these still had not chosen, had they? Unless she had missed something, they had yet to make choices. Wait--was that another green, Impressed? The first hadn't, had it? She was beginning to lose track, yet she was certain neither blue nor brown dragons had Impressed yet. Rhia rode brown, and Akki, someone she recognized by name and reputation if not by face, rode blue. There was nothing currently hatched that was barred to her, as a young woman. There were endless possibilities within each dragon to break the shell. She had to chuckle at the appearance of a lovely, smoky brown dragon whose head was still caught in a piece of his shell. Whatever was to happen, she would remember this day. She wondered if the next hatching would be as memorable, if she were not to Impress here, from this one. Likely each one was. Still, it was her first time standing, and that in itself was memorable. It was quite unlike anything she had experienced before, and she thought that there would be nothing like it again, should she Impress today. Firelizard hatchings, or so she had heard, were exciting in their own way. She had always wanted one of the tiny dragon kin, yet never had the opportunity. As a runner, it would have been very useful. As a dragonrider, just a nicety. Besides, she doubted that it would compare to Impressing an actual dragon of these proportions. The dragons hatching were all so marvelous in appearance, that she cared not which one might choose her. Green, blue or brown, they were all equally good in their own ways. She would only consider herself lucky to get one at all. It was an honor unlike no other, to Impress and bond to a dragon. Her greatest fear thereafter would be if something should happen to her beloved mind-mate. She had heard of people who lived on after their dragons passed, but she had seen those who had, and it took a very unique individual of a certain kind of strength to do so, and remain living a relatively normal life. Many asked to be dropped off between, and no one would deny them this. She personally wondered what she would have done. Dragons did this if their riders were to pass, why didn't it make sense, then, for their human counterparts to want the same? Still, the idea of purposely ending your own life seemed garish to her, and she hoped it never, ever came to that if she Impressed. Impressed...there were dragons on the sands, and they had not chosen. There were more dragons yet to hatch. Would they all Impress today? She wouldn't have been able to remain undaunted if one were to between without ever finding their life-mate. It would be as though a candle just lit were burning out, well before its allotted time. The thought caused the hairs on the back of her neck to stand, and she wondered why it was a dragon needed a human to survive. Could it not just be fed, and then grow to adulthood and care for itself? It was too complex for her to wrap her mind about, and she decided to think of it at a later time. Right now, she was focused on the hatchling dragons, and waiting in anticipation for them to choose, be it herself, or someone else.
Catilena burst out laughing when the green plowed into Faine right after she made her comments about not being run over by a hatchling. She was still laughing when Faine got back up and smiled at her. She shook her head from sde to side and looked at her.
"Hahaha! Not bad, girl, not bad. Relina told me this happened at the last hatching as well, and that it led to her impressing her green!" She piped up, watching another egg hatch and reveal a brown. She looked to Daelan and grinned.
"I`m having a blast here! Are you having fun too?" She asked him happily.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~(D)~~~~~~~~~~
Daelan couldn't help but chuckle when Faine was run over by the green, standing back up and saying "plowing- survived!" to Catilena. He smiled and laughed at the scene and was so happy he didn't even cower when Catilena started talking to him. He looked at her and nodded.
"Yes, this is very fun, I have never been to a hatching. Are they always this exciting?" He asked her. She nodded and reached out her hand to him, saying nothing as she turned her attention back to the dragons. Daelan grabbed it and she pulled him closer to the eggs. He then started growing nervous again and hoped he would not be the next one to fall to a hatchling. Even as she let go of him and called something to him, he didn't listen. He was now in a position to be mauled like Faine and he was too frightened to move.
"Oh, I don't know if I can do this...F-Faine? It doesn't hurt, does it?" He asked her, watching the dragons scramble around.

The orange-colored brown had been waiting patiently for His to arrive but once he did, there were too many people around for him to think clearly. He was soo hungry and his sister had scratched someone. That made him get up quickly to find his. No one would hurt his rider if he was near him!
His awkward frame was almost comical as he rushed off towards the boys, and one boy in particular. He lost his balance as he tried to stop and plowed into his chosen, scratching him a little deeper than Faine had been scratched. His own side got caught with his claws and ichor oozed a bit out of it. It wasn't bad, just a little irritatingly painful. D'lan your Lenoth is sorry! I couldn't stop. Please forgive me. I hunger so much!

While awaiting the answer Daelan suddenly felt himself bowled over and deeply cut. He was about to call out when he felt an apologetic presence in his head.
D'lan your Lenoth is sorry! I couldn't stop. Please forgive me. I hunger so much! The dragon said. Daelan looked up into the eyes of the brown and saw the rainbow colors. In the background, Catilena cheered, but he did not hear it. It was just him and his dragon. Daelan and Lenoth.
D'lanmine, are you alright? I'm hungry, can Lenoth be fed if you are alright? Lenoth told him. Daelan smiled and pat his dragon, his dragon, softly.
"Of course, of course, I have to get up first though. Why do you call me "D'lan" Admin's Note:
" He asked him. Lenoth got off of him and let him up.
Daelan is too hard for me to say. D'lan is much easier, you do not like it? Can I be fed? Lenoth asked. D'lan smiled and shook his head. He was about to answer when he thought of something. Could he talk to his dragon mentally as Lenoth could to him? He wondered. He decided to try.
No, no, it is fine. I do like it, very much. And yes, we can go get some food. He told him.
Thank you, where is it? Lenoth asked him. D'lan smiled and, walking to stand beside his dragon, noticed the greenish substance slowly leaking from Lenoth's side. He immediately started to worry.
My Lenoth! You're hurt! He cried in his head. Lenoth started forward.
I am hungry more! Please, food is this way? The dragon asked hopefully. D'lan shook the shock from his head and ran to Lenoth, placing his hand on his head.
This way, my dearest friend. D'lan said, leading Lenoth to the edge of the sands where the buckets of meat lay. He passed by Catilena and Faine along the way and grinned.
"My friends, this is my Lenoth! And I am his D'lan!" He said, turning back to find the nearest bucket to feed his new life-partner.

When the brown that had been second to hatch crashed in Daelan, cutting him with his small claws, Catilena almost rushed to help them, but she was stopped when she saw rainbows in the dragon's eyes as he looked at Daelan. She knew from her experience that Impression was made, and Daelan had then become D'lan from the moment he locked eyes with the dragon. She grinned and started cheering for him, forgetting he was hurt.
"Whooo! Alright Daelan, I mean D'lan! Way to go! Congratulations, I am so happy for you! Whooo!" She screamed, utterly delighted that the fearful, quiet candidate she pushed into the sands just a few seconds ago had now become a brown weyrling. As he passed by them, he announced his dragon's name and his new dragonrider name. She could see the joy in his eyes and she turned to Faine.
"I am so happy for them. Now, want me to push you deeper into the sands so your dragon can find you?" She joked, not feeling disappointed in the slightest about not impressing. She never did, for watching people go from fearful people into joyous weyrlings always made her happy.

Relina looked on and saw all the dragons impress to different people, and smiled, not smirked, but she truly smiled.
You are glad for these people? Soranith asked, feeling Relina's joy. Relina nodded and looked toward the spot where her friends and her sister were, and was surprised. First Faine was knocked over by a hatchling, then Daelan. While the green who had knocked over Faine walked away from her, Daelan and the brown got into a staring match and stayed in that position for a few seconds, then they got up and continued to look at each other.
Soranith, I am confused, who impressed just now? Faine or Daelan? Relina asked, hoping she would know. Soranith tilted her head up.
Lenoth's bonded is the boy. Mine's friend is still dragonless. Can I go eat with them? Soranith said, smelling the meat being placed for the new weyrlings. Relina chuckled and shook her head.
Sorry love, not now. I promise, we will go eat after the hatching is done She said. She smiled as she looked toward Daelan, who now led the dragon called Lenoth to the meat buckets, and was immediatly reminded of her own impression. Catilena's cheers echoed to the stands and it made Relina chuckled.
She has a heart bigger than her brain, she does. Soranith, I am reminded of our own meeting by watching these new pairs. I love you, my dearest. She said, reaching out to her dragon. Soranith curled her head toward Relina and laid it in her lap.
And I you, mine. She said, her eyes whirling like multiple sapphires and emeralds.

Another rider was made. Another dragon's choice. Kalaht had been very discouraged and really wanted to leave. His heart said to stay but his head said to leave.
'Go head, leave. There is nothing for you here' an echo in his mind said. 'No dragon would want a fecking weakling. You aren't strong enough.' He remembered the way the his mother had talking to him. His father was the same way. He WAS strong. He was NOT weak. He DID deserve this. After all, why would he be Standing if they didn't think he was worthy? He stood there and sighed as a new feeling came over him. A feeling of accomplishment. After his brother's death, he wasn't weak for that. He was very brave, giving the Harper his knife like that. He didn't want it back not for awhile. It was so easy to take revenge but he won over it! That was a very brave thing he did. In that aspect, he just proved his parents wrong and he was proud of himself.
Kalaht stopped feeling sorry for himself at that moment. Yes, he wanted vengeance but we want him go through a trail and sentenced by the Pern law and not by his own hand. His fate was sealed. He knew it. All these new feelings were coming to him. A new found sensation of freedom, a chance to protect the innocent with a dragon by his side to help him with his faults. He was still hopeful, very hopeful. He forgot about the negative things that happened in the life and focused more at the event at hand.
Kalaht was not a weakling, other wise he wouldn't have made it this far. He was not an idiot, he was intelligent. It showed in his this writing lessons. He was smart, strong and able to survive this if he did not Impress. He -was- a survivor! This was a turning point in his life. A turning point for the better. He narrowed his eyes and watched intently on the eggs and hopefully one was his. He gained confidence in his training and he knew how to defend himself better now, unarmed and armed. He knew what to do anyone ambushed him. He would never allow that to happen again.
Kalaht was hoping that there was a dragon out there somewhere for him. It just a matter of time. He wasn't going to leave. There was too much at stake. He had become hard and almost unfeeling, emotionless as it were. He appeared to have now feelings but he crammed his feeling deep. So deep that even he could not get them easily. He vowed no one would hurt him again. He was tried of people walking all over him, using him as a doormat. He was tired of other people trying to do things for him just because he was different. He was a virgin. Pure of mind, heart and body. Hopefully that would work toward his favor.

The ice blue dragonet began to pick her way delicately across the sands, heading unerringly towards the boys. Those who had questioned her gender began to think they had been wrong. Most blues did go to males, unless they were female. No female blue had ever Impressed to a boy before.
However, she was certainly female, and she was definitely heading towards the boys. Hers had hair as pale as her hide, only a different color. She didn't rush. No one would steal hers, they were too busy looking at her brother who had just tumbled into his chosen. She would not be that clumsy!
B'cran, dear mine. My hunger is great. Please feed me. I am Aryth. Her rainbow eyes looked imploringly up at the lad.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From her spot by the food, Rhia called out to the newly paired Weyrlings, telling them to come. As they arrived, she instructed them on how to feed their dragons. She went from pair to pair, making sure they didn't let their dragons gorge or eat too fast. She would use her knife to cut pieces that were too big for the weyrling dragonets to eat quickly. She was delighted for each new pair.
Kalaht hoped there was a dragon on the Sands for him. Okay, so he didn't get the ice blue dragon but there was more eggs yet to be hatched a a few babies without theirs. Maybe just maybe one could be his? He was hopeful. Before he was going to leave but now, he felt the strength of a hundred men. The courage to stay and the brave boy who made it this far. The turning point in his life was right here, right now. Is he going to Impress?
Kalaht was excited way beyond words. It was overwhelming. He was all smiles, even when the others Impress. He felt glad for them. He even waved to the two newly Impressed Weyrlings with a huge smile. Things changed in him. He was no longer the timid, depressed boy who wanted to run. He was now a fierce warrior who was courageous enough to defeat his inner demons. He was the opposite of timid. He had confidence and had the authority to say no. He was proud of himself.
He couldn't be emotionless. Although he tried but it didn't work. Love. Happiness. All the positive feelings flowed forth, but he as careful not to give out too much. He sighed of impatience. He waited for the one dragon to come up to him, if there was one for him. If he didn't Impress this hatching, he will try the next one. He remained positive throughout the entire hatching. It didn't it let it bother him to see others Impress. Yes, he was disappointed but he got over it quickly.
