Naret could barely keep track of each dragon as it hatched, but as soon as the largest egg hatched it had caught his - and everyone elses, apparently - attention immediately. The two dragons - two! - inside were simply magnificient to look at! He'd heard that there were stranger colors at this Weyr, but he'd never expected there to be a Silver. A moment later, a pretty, energetic green had burst out and run immediately to a girl. And after that, a brilliant copper dragon came out onto the sands.
That was when the two queens started moving, and he followed their progress to see who they'd impress. Naret applauded for Blissy, but hadn't actually known her that well. When Faine impressed to the gold, he gave another applaud, and a thumbs up to her as well. The extra lap or so he'd had with her that first day of training had been enjoyable; since coming to the weyr, the training had been the only time he'd had to run, and he'd hadn't realized before that he'd ever miss it.
Once the newly impressed were off the sands, Naret turned back to the dragons still there. One more egg, it looked like, and still that magnificent copper to impress! Naret let his eyes linger for a moment on the brilliant hatchling; whoever that one chose was certainly lucky!

The male copper rose to his feet, trying futilely to shake the sand from his hide. He let out a cry that was a mix of a hungry creel and an annoyed bugle. He didn't like the itchy feeling he was getting from the sand on his hide. This would not do at all!
He ran to the males. There were 3 left, or was there 4 and one was hiding somewhere else? He didn't feel right with the ones who were there. He felt the pull from his chosen somewhere else. Why wasn't his chosen there? He was supposed to be!
His golden mother gave an encouraging croon, watching the remaining egg anxiously and her hatchling son. The others had found their chosens. She nudged his bright hide, crooning.
Go find him.
He jumped at his mother's words, but couldn't fight the command. He let out a squeal and tore into the tiers, running along until he could find the stairs. He ran up them, calling for his chosen.
K'fin, K'fin! You weren't there. Why weren't you waiting for your Trillith? I hunger so much and I ITCH!

One more egg to go but I have to go to work!

Kalaht was more and more anxious. There was only one left. Whose will it be? His or maybe the one of the other two. None of the others wanted him but maybe this one will. He was hopeful that this last egg had a dragon for him. This hatching had changed him. From the timid, paranoid boy to a boy who realized his full potential. He is now a man, in his eyes. A man with morals, a man with courage and confidence to go on. He was an intelligent man. He was forced to grow up real quick. Yet he was a boy in others' eyes.
This was it. One egg. 3 Candidates left. He watched the egg intently for it to hatch for the last choice. His muscles twitched in anticipation. Whose dragon was it? He thought back, for an instant, how he felt when his brother was killed. He dismissed that thought from his mind. He sighed.
Kalaht was overwhelmed by this moment. He narrowed his eyes and considered that fact what's inside that dragon's egg might not be his. No one could really tell how he would act if he didn't Impress this hatching. He would try again though. He wouldn't give up all hope and commit suicide, he know -that- for sure.

With one arm looped over a deep green neck, Elanee watched the rest of the Hatching with a lazy smile across her face. Niyth had since stuffed herself quite to the brink and laid next to her newly found partner not a hands breath from the bucket she had just emptied. The dark eyed girl found herself catching a breath at the sight of the twins. One silver and one gold, when the gold chose Faine, she found herself smiling even more and she turned her head to whisper quietly to the little green who was all but asleep by now. "Its a good thing that you tripped over Faine before you big sister there hatched out."
Niyth opened one whirling eye and caught Elanee's look, any other movement at the moment was far too much effort. She was so full and right now sleep seemed the very best of ideas. Getting clean could wait until after, it was warm and she was finally not hungry any more. Well, let her have her. I wanted you and she was in the way. The dark green's eye fluttered closed again and as Elanee turned her head back to the eggs on the sand she though she spotted a glimpse of her brother in the stands. No doubt he would be here, missing a Hatching was out of the question.
Her hand ran absently over the soft and still wet hide of the little green and Elanee found herself sighing. No, nothing would ever be the same but it was as it should be. No doubt she and Niyth would show the rest of their class a thing or two, at least... once they were airborne. Not a soul would keep up with them, she watched as the Copper hatched and went clamoring after the one he wanted. This day was just full of surprises wasn't it? Oh dear... why did Niyth have to go and bowl over the new goldrider... Somehow Elanee had a feeling that was going to come back and bite them both in the rear. Ah well, they'd show em all a thing or two.

Before she could respond, the beautiful silver-streaked gold dragon waddled over to her, Faine, and Orena and looked over the three of them as if trying to decide. She shuddered excitedly and when the gold chose Faine, Catilena cried out in sheer joy.
"WHOOOOO! Alright! Way to go Faine, you impressed! You impressed a gold! and a very beautiful one at that, might I add." She called, knocking poor Mosaic off her arm and bowing to the little queen. Faine had grabbed her wrist and gave it a squeeze and Catilena couldn`t have been more proud of her. When she let go to feed her dragon, Catilena couldn`t help but keep her eyes on the pair, totally ignoring the fact that there was still one egg on the sands. She couldn`t have been more happy had she been the one to impress the gold.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~(R)~~~~~~~~~~
With the hatching of the twin queens, Relina smiled as she looked on their beautiful, dual-colored hides. She clapped lightly when Andilay, a girl she knew from the last hatching, impressed the gold-streaked silver.
She watched the silver-streaked gold intently. There were only 3 girls left on the sands, her sister, Faine, and a stranger named Orena, whom Relina had never met. She held her breath as the gold looked over the candidates, wondering who she was going to choose. Was her sister going to become a goldrider? Was Faine about to impress one of the most powerful colors in the weyr? Were they both going to stand this hatching and impress later on? The moment seemed to dragon on forever. Finally, the gold made her choice, and Relina did a doubletake to make sure she read the signs right. She stood in front of Faine, Relina could faintly see the rainbow in her eyes.
Soranith, did she just do what I think she did? Is my... friend a rider? Relina asked, struggling on the word friend.
Yes. Colvarinth's rider is the girl you like. Soranith confirmed. Upon hearing this, and seeing Faine being led away by the new queen, she was filled with a feeling she had never felt before, and what she did next could not have been predicted by anyone, not even her own sister could have seen this coming. She stood up, tears in her eyes, and cheered. There were no words, but in that cry you could find triumph and happiness. Relina was so happy for her friend, the only one who had broken through the cold, tough shell that was Relina and dared be her friend. She turned to Soranith and hugged her.
Tell Colvarinth to tell Faine that I am very happy for her, and that I shall join them as soon as the last impression is made. Relina said, almost not following what she just said. Luckily for her, Soranith had no trouble understanding.
Mine wishes to congratulate yours for finding you, and she wants her to know she is very happy for her and we will be with you after the last dragon has found theirs. Soranith relayed to Colvarinth. Today is a good day. New dragons were coming into the world and on top of that, Soranith's rider was happy beyond imagination.
Harper Klivin
As the large egg cracked Klivin sat in total awe as the queen…no, queens untwined. Both clear opposites of each other…but in their regal beauty, both were equally matched. The Harper breathed, just managing to catch his son by his collar before he fell into the people in front of him. Absolutely stunning! I bet that nobody was betting this would happen… He grinned glancing at a certain pair behind him. At their shrugs he chuckled, turning around in time to see the energetic green hatch and impress. “Fin lad, look, the Silver…” He pointed out, his applause picking up again as the hatchling impressed soon after her green sister. That’d make the girl…the new Junior Weyrwoman… Admin's Note:
The Harper mused.
…
Klinorfin "Fin"
Fin’s large eyes were wide as he watched the queens, and then there was the hatching of the bro…no, Copper? Admin's Note:
Never seen one of them before. He grinned, his ears picking up at the murmurs of the crowd around him. Its a male! Maybe Kalaht… Admin's Note:
He wondered learning forward again, nearly missing the impression of the little gold. Wonder If I’ll be able to meet the new Weyrlings and their dragons someday… Glancing back, he could see father was lost in his thought again. Tutting to himself the boy turned back, Someday father will miss something important... The boy grinned, eyes once again on the last hatchling and egg.
…
Harper Klivin
As the sudden hungry creel and loud bugle assailed his ears, the Harper jumped. Eyes drawn to the poor irritated little hatchling, as the Snr Queen gave him a encouraging nudge. Smiling to himself he noticed the young gold had also impressed, A fine clutch indeed. He nodded, glancing down at his son as the boy tugged at his Harper blue tunic. “What is it…” Noticing the eager mummers around him, he turned in time to notice the Hatchling on the stairs. “Please don’t crowd him…can you all…!” As he attempted to address the crowd, there was another tug at his sleeve. “Now lad…” But before he could get any further he noticed the boys expression.
…
K'fin and Trillith
K'fin, K'fin! You weren't there. Why weren't you waiting for your Trillith? I hunger so much and I ITCH!
Eyes wide in panic and surprise the boy froze. “K’fin…Trillith… Admin's Note:
” He breathed, shaking his head slightly. But…but, I’m supposed to be a Harper Apprentice…I didn’t run…so why… Admin's Note:
Gulping he bit his lip, A…are you talking…to me? As the Copper head whirled in his direction the young boy gasped. But…but…what about… Suddenly reassuring hands grabbed him by the shoulders and steered him through the crowd. Still frozen, the same hands nudged him towards the Hatchling.
…
Harper Klivin
“Can’t have him causing panic or messing up anyone’s fine clothing, can we lad,” Klivin whispered to the boy. “The dragon chooses the rider…I’m proud of you Fin…or should I say K’fin?” With a final nudge he stood back. Couldn’t have chosen a better name myself…for either of them…
… K'fin and Trillith
Trying to rise up onto his hind legs, the Copper was more than ready to climb past the people blocking him from his mine. But there he was! Why are you here and not… Admin's Note:
Suddenly he turned to brush…or scratch…or, I itch…and I hunger!
Drawing away from his father, K’fin leapt forward to embrace the hatchling. Please don’t scratch, you might hurt yourself…I’ll make it go away, I promise! Feeling a soft croon rumble from deep in the Coppers throat, the boy leant back, his eyes almost crossed eyed as he gazed into Trillith’s. “Wow…” He breathed, scratching the hatchlings eye ridges like the riders did. His voice attempting to match the hatchlings second croon, earning chuckles from the crowd behind him. Managing a slight harmony he noticed the poor little dragon had started to shift again. Reaching out he dutifully tried to wipe off the partially dried sand. One moment Trillith… He grimaced as some of it started to stick to his own hands.
…
Harper Klivin
“The sand will dry and fall off where its warmer…” Klivin murmured pointing over to the Weyrling Master and the buckets of meat. “Best start feeding him and I can help you brush him as the sand dries…” The pair looked up at him quizzically before almost nodding as one. Biting back a chuckle he followed them down onto the sands.
“Carry on son, I’ll catch up with you in a moment…” With that Klivin paused beside one of the remaining candidates. Squeezing the lads good shoulder he studied the boy for a bit. “You need to relax Kalaht, don’t think on it too much.” The Harper murmured to the boy. “You need to be open and completely relaxed…thinking only of welcoming and encouraging the new hatchling.” He smiled, “No one doubts your strength…so remember not to come over too strongly. These are newborns, you can’t demand or expect them to do things…you just have to be calm and patient.” Patting the boys shoulder again the Harper grinned, “And Kalaht…remember to smile, this is a joyous occasion.” With that Klivin quickly retreated. His eyes glancing to his newly impressed son as he fed his hatchling, and then back to the last egg on the sands. This is a joyous occasion indeed!
The final egg, the sun-yellow egg that felt so optimistic, finally decided to stop playing around. Shards flew within a small radius of the egg as the dragonet within burst forth. The smallest blue out of the bunch stepped away from the crumbled shards, quite shyly. He was one of those dragons that was hard to tell if he was green or blue, but he was definitely a blue. His frame was thicker than any green, except for his male green brother. His hide was a dark turquoise, that color with just a hint of green in it that makes it hard to tell green from blue at times depending on the ratio of the colors. He had just more blue than green to make him identifiable as a blue. A dark cyan shade could also be used to describe his hide. There were a few places that were darker than others, but overall his hide was fairly even and one color. He would be a somewhat shy dragon, always polite and respectful to his superiors. He would rather be quiet in a crowd and learn than to speak up, but if he feels he has something important to say, he will overcome his shyness. He would have an unfailingly optimistic outlook on life, and would badger his chosen to quit being so gloomy many a time. His was a boy still, for all that he thought he was a man, but that was ok with him. They'd grow together and mature. He'd be neither overly sweet, nor overly stern, but a mixture of both when he would need to be. He'd be a good, steady dragon in threadfall. He would rarely speak to any person other than his bonded though he would make friends with some of his fellow dragons and the occasional human.
Colvarinth was trying to eat all dainty and lady-like as a gold should but it was incredibly hard when she was just so hungry. She was beginning to pick up the pace, hear head darting forward to snap up the piece of meat that was in Faine’s hand. The redhead had to slow the gold down as best as she could, fearing not only that Colvarinth would choke but her fingers would accidentally find their way into her mouth.
My clutch-brother's chosen was dumb and wasn't on the sands The gold observed in a rather haughty tone before sinking to the ground. She was content for now, her stomach was full and she had found Hers.
“I don’t think he realized he was supposed to be on the sands.” Faine replied, as if amending for the boy…or perhaps for Colvarinth’s tone. Faine caught a glimpse so Elanee staring at her and looked down to where the scratches on her legs were, a little gift from the green. They weren’t bad or anything, for the most part the blood was already drying up. No harm, no foul. Ah, perhaps that wasn’t the correct time to use that sentiment since there was harm but it didn’t seem severe enough to count. The redhead looked away from the scratches and into the sand, wiggling her fingers slightly at Relina. Oh, she couldn’t wait to see the girl at the hatching! And Catilena too!
If Colvarinth had been a bird, her feathers would have been ruffled by Soranith’s comment. I found her She corrected in a rather huffy way before pausing. Soranith’s relayed the message because clearly her rider and Faine were close so maybe her tone wasn’t quite appropriate. But we thank you, nonetheless
Faine watched as the last egg finally gave way, it had probably decided it had waited long enough. He was an odd color but looked gorgeous. There were five candidates left on the sands and blues could Impress to girls or boys right? Faine bit her lip slightly, curious to see who would be the last Impression.
Kalaht looked up at the Harper and put his hand on Kilvin's and squeezed it gently. He patted it and nodded. He relaxed a bit although his veins were screaming with excitement. He smiled.
"I am too nervous, my friend. Too, too excited." Kalaht chuckled. It was the first attempt to say anything to anyone. He was quiet except when he had something to say. He wasn't too strict or kind to those who wrong him but a guides with a firm hand. He would, in his mind, be a leader of some sort.
Kalaht was surprised at the dragon came out of the egg. Was this blue or green? He narrowed his eyes once once and stood 'at ease' position. He thought himself a solider, now. He looked at himself as a man who is coping with a great pain, the loss of his older brother. He sighed. His eyes were sad. They have been through a man's pain. He was as mature as he acted. Little shy but spoke up when needed.
Kalaht had chills, he was so excited. He shivered at the sensation. He looked at the dark turquoise dragon. Boy, he was a beauty but would the boy be his? Kalaht thought perhaps this, this was the moment he was waiting for. Who will get this one? He wondered.
Kalaht was anxious, among everything else mixed in he was feeling. He was impatient but only because he had to wait. Wait for what? For a possible dragon? Yes, it was a very important event that he would not miss in all of Pern! He wanted to cry he was still in much pain due his shoulder. It itched sooooo bad but he knew better. He didn't what Master Ragule lecturing him again.
The little blue was practically tucked into a ball, his head hidden underneath his wing. Due to the fact that he was no the last unimpressed dragon, all eyes were on him and it was rather nerve-wracking. He wasn’t a fan of huge crowds and he certainly wasn’t a fan of having everyone watching him. Deciding that perhaps everyone would stop watching if he Impressed, he untucked himself and quickly scampered towards the remaining candidates.
There weren’t many to choose from but it didn’t matter; His was there, somewhere. He walked slowly in front of the girls, watching them carefully and paused for a few seconds in front of Catilena. He looked downward, almost apologetically for the fact that they weren’t His, and headed towards the males. Oh yes, His was there! He could feel it!
This time, he didn’t pause at all. He darted past the boys and paused in front of his Mine, stepping slightly on the boys toes as he peered up.
K'lahtmine! Why are you acting so sad! Aren’t you happy to see your Falienhth? You should be happy that Falienhth found you! Can you feed me now?
K'laht smiled down at Falienhth. Feelings of love he had once thought he had forgotten came rushing in to him. He knelt and put his hand on his snout. He was shaking. His dragon....his dragon!! He grimaced as he put his hand on his left shoulder. The stab wound still hurt. He was so proud.
Beautiful! Such preciousness, Falienhth. That's a gorgeous name. he mindspoke with his dragon.
Mine! Your hurt! Falienhth almost squealed.
No, its fine. Love. he didn't care if the little one stepped on his toes or not. He hardly even felt it.
Can I eat now? I hunger.Falienhth asked.
Of course. Come. I will have this looked at while you are asleep...don't worry. I'll be fine. he sighed and felt complete. Tears welled in his eyes.
"Look! Look! Everyone, look at my Falienhth! Isn't he gorgeous?" He wanted to show the entire Weyr, even strangers he new dragon. If a dragon could blush, Falienhth would. He swept his hind foot across the dirt and hid his face a little.
Follow me, love. he said. The turquoise dragon followed his to where all the new Weyrlings were to feed there dragons.
Okay, Mine. He scampered up ahead, glad to be away from all of the two-leggers watching. He stopped just outside and got on his haunches. He pawed the air, playfully. Come on, Mine! You are slow poking!
K'laht chuckled.
It's slow poke. He said as a jogged up to the turquoise dragon. Kal'ht was proud and it showed. He saw a pale available and sat next to it as did the hatchling. He lifted the knife and cut irregular pieces for him. He had learned from his friend at home. He would sneak out of the house on the days the his parents worked. His friends was a cook and he secretly learned the trade. It was self-explanatory.
Gentle now. Don't swallow it whole. Chew. Like this. K'laht showed the baby dragon how to chew. See? Now you try. He gave the dragon a piece of meat and he tried to reach up and grab it Kal'ht moved it upwards so the little dragon could not reach.
But, Mine...I'm so hungry! he pleaded.
I will feed you. Me. Not you. Me. Understand? K'laht said sternly.
The dragon nodded his head. Yes, Mine.
Okay, now. Once more. Kal'ht moved the piece of meat down. Open you mouth, love.
The little dragon opened his mouth. K'laht tossed the piece into his bottom jaw. Falienhth tried to chew but he did so too fast and swallowed it. He coughed and almost choked. The only thing that prevented that was Kal'ht patted Falienhth on gently on the back. In turn, the little dragon coughed the obstruction out. He picked it up and winced at it but it was food and Falienhth didn't seem to mind at all. He tossed it back to the mouth of his dragon, making an 'eeww' face.
Now, one more time. Chew your food, love. All the way, _then_ swallow.
Falienhth tried again and he did it! He fed his dragon until every single bite was gone.
Andilay tapped her silver dragon's nose in a slight reprimand. Hey now! No person is better or worse than another- we all have the same value. However... I'm glad you think so. She smiled down at her dragon and looked her over, lifting a wing at one point and picking up her hind leg that had nearly made her trip from the slight mauling she had inflicted. She was making sure her dragon wasn't injured from shell shards or snagged claws. She was well, and she was beautiful.
I'm sorry Mine, I will remember. May we go get me some food now?
Andilay affectionately patted the young queen's rump. But of course, my dear Veritath. This way, step lively, young queen of the weyr. She stood up from were she was bent in her inspection, and walked proudly to the tables set up for feeding the newborn dragons.
Distantly, a part of her was numb from the shock of impressing a queen... and that part also held the knowledge that she was the first to impress a queen this hatching... making her the new junior weyrwoman. A thought burbled up from both parts of her mind (The active and numb), that at least now she wouldn't be nearly as bored as she had been earlier. In fact... she may get very busy rather soon.....
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
OmgomgomgomgOMG!!! ANDY GOT A SILVER QUEEN DRAGON BABY!!!!!! That's like.... um... Faranth, I don't know! But it's shardin awesome!! Rayn just barely contained herself, clapping and sending down a whistle that left several of the fellows around her with ringing ears and possible hearing loss. But that was tame compared to the internal flailing, jumping up and down and over all screaming that was going on in her brain.
This is WHY!!! This is why she didn't impress last time!! She was destined to come to this hatching and become the other half of a silver!!
I am truly happy for you mine, and for your friend. Veritath is a very beautiful creature. She will definitely have the other males running after her.
But not you? Do you think her out of your league, Llanwreth? I tell you now that you can do anything you put your mind too, as long as you have a stubborn enough will. Rayn crossed her arms under her bosom and gave a firm nod.
She could hear the dragon form of Llanwreth's laughter over their link. It's not that mine. It is simply that if I were to mate with her, the situation between you and your dear friend would become... awkward. And I would never do that to you. Mine.
Rayn paused, then responded with, That is one of the most considerate things you have ever told me, Llanwreth. I'm so glad your my dragon. What would I do without you?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I always thought Blissy would make a good greeney.
R'khol huffed into his hand as he watched the last of the impressions. His sister included. Really, Kegrith, Greeney? Is that even a real term? And for one of your children no less.
He felt a mental shrug before the dragon spoke. It is what she is, and who her rider will ride. Blissy is now Weyrling to minty Green Jespeth. They make a good pair. Tell you one thing... the weyr just got a pair of mothers... for life. Doesn't matter that they don't actually have any children.
R'khol couldn't help but lightly laugh at that. It was fairly true. Blissy would attract children where ever she went, regardless of even species. So of course, her dragon would be similar.
What do you think of the new Junior Weyrwoman?
R'khol scanned the sands once more and his gaze fell on a tall woman who was leaving the sands to feed her dragon. She would be a... silver queen J. Weyrwoman. But at least she appeared to be a fairly dependable girl... but you know what they say, appearances could be deceiving.
Oh ye of little faith.
