Rhia tapped her foot impatiently, her riding boot making light noises against the stone worn smooth by the movement of many booted feet over the Turns. She was waiting in the tiers of the Hatching Cavern because the Candidate Barracks were being rebuilt and the new Barrack would include a classroom for her to teach in instead of having to use the Lower Caverns or the Courtyard on a hot day. Plus she wanted the Candidates to familarize themselves with the Cavern and the eggs.
She had some last minute instructions for the Candidates. This would be important because the eggs showed every sign of hatching within the next few days. The hatching could even interrupt her lesson. She wished she would have had the time to instruct them before but that could not be helped. The new weyrlings were behind in their lessons already and this clutch was a surprise for even the WLM.
She had given the orders for the Candidates to arrive a candlemark after dawn so that she would have some time to teach them before starting with the new Weyrlings today. These two clutches wouldn't be far apart in lessons even though they were at least 2 sevendays apart in age. She would probably just combine the two and give side instruction to the new ones so they could catch up.
Kaith, Christae's Queen was sitting on one of the dragon tiers, idly watching the few people who passed the entrance tunnel of the Hatching Grounds. Mneith was sitting on a higher tier closer to his rider, ready to help instruct his rider's pupils. The eggs were hard now and she had gained permission from Christae to allow the Candidates to touch the eggs after her lesson.

Relina calmly walked in, Zorn close behind. She closely observed her surroundings and stopped upon seeing the dragons and slightly hesitated. This was the first time she had seen a dragon up close. Zorn pushed her forward lightly and chirped in encouragment. Relina took a deep breath and Approached the brown rider.
"Hello. I was told to come here for some sort of lesson. I should hope this has useful information?" She said to Rhianna with more hostility than intended. She internally flinched, with her right eye noticably twitching at her behavior. She knew her people skills needed work if she was going to work with the other riders in the weyr.

Rhia raised her eyebrows. "You are here to learn what you need to know when it comes time for the Hatching. If you feel it is not necessary however, I would be glad to arrange for a flight home for you." Her voice was cool and matter of fact. Her grey eyes were steel. She could be nice, but not when a mere Candidate spoke to her with such hostility.
Mneith raised his wedge shaped head, his eyes flickering with just a hint of orange in the green from annoyance. He felt his rider's annoyance but he knew she wouldn't lose her temper just yet. He felt sorry for the Candidate if she continued to antagonize his rider though.
"Your name Candidate." She said with clipped coldness. "All of my lessons are informative and one of those lessons will be how to greet your superiors."
OOC: Hun a flitt wouldn't be scolding her for her rudeness. They aren't THAT smart. Maybe a gold, but not a blue.

OOC: Ok, I'll fix that part.
Relina felt the sting from the rider's words and she felt even more regret for her words. She slightly bowed toward the rider before speaking. "I am sorry, master, we are weary of strangers. I am Relina and this is my friend Zorn." Zorn chirped at the mention of his name.
"We come from a long way in hopes to Impress." She said, trying to give as little information about her past as possible.

Shortly behind Relina, Dhunen, tall and scruffy, entered the room and looked about. He spotted Rhia in all her impatience and offered quickly, "Dhunen, ma'am. Hope I'm not late." With that, he bowed at the waist quickly and respectfully, moving out of the doorway to allow anyone that followed him to enter. A look was given to Relina, along with a smile. He hadn't seen her before. Perhaps she was new - newer than he, even. "Welcome." He offered quietly.
Dhunen looked about and found a spot to sit. Out of the way, but well within ear shot of the woman who would be speaking. He sat straight, if a bit casually.

Andilay walked into the cavern, a sore headed Rayn leaning on her shoulder. She wasn't sure how long the lesson would take, and hoped it would not interfere with her previous engagement.
Rayn was not happy. Not only did she miss out on the spectacle of the egg transfer the day before, but she made Andy miss the majority of it as well. Darn door! It had no right being all invisible in... in the doorway!!! Now her head hurt like sharding shells!! And she had a lump on her right temple that she was sure would get looks.
Rayn took her weight off of Andilay's shoulders and walked with the unhappiness of one in pain. She wasn't sure if she could sit during the lesson or not... but she sure hoped so.
Andilay rotated her shoulder that was now free of Rayn's weight, it still felt fine, the other woman's body not stressing it out even a little. Andilay looked at Rhia and lightly cleared her throat. "Excuse me, Weyrling Master? Might I inquire on how long this lesson may take?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Verdann rushed into the cavern, excitement etched on his features. He was so curious about the weyr and all it's workings. He had thoroughly enjoyed getting lost the day before, he found so many nice little nitches that he would remember and visit later. Now he was supposed to pay attention to the wisdom of the Weyrling Master as she informed them on stuff they would need to know within the next few days.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sleyer grasped the side part of the cavern door and looked into the room. All the candidates had been called, but not all of them were as of yet in attendance. He wasn't sure if he wished to enter just yet... especially when the Weyrling Master was about to rip a new one into a fellow candidate.

Kalyr Shouldering numerous thongs of leather, with a few working tools in hand, Kalyr quietly whistled to himself as he entered the hatching Sands. It had become oddly peaceful for him in here, no one ever tended to be around, he could just sit, in the warmth, finishing of the straps, with the transfer clutch gleaming to itself as he worked. It was strangely relaxing, but, when he entered the cavern today, his whistling stopped immediately.
As he entered, the imposing figure of the golden queen, up, upon the dragon tiers was Kaith, he gave her a little bow – just to show his respect, despite the fact that he knew she likely wasn’t looking or caring that he was there. But, so was a brown, quite high amongst the tiers of the dragon’s perches. That was his first clue that things were not quite normal.
The second? Ironically the thing he noticed second, despite its prominence. Candidates everywhere. Shards and shells was there really that many of them? He looked and watched in muted amazement as more proceeded in. He looked baffled, it was like rats! When disturbed, they all come out of the woodwork! He seen a few familiar faces, ones he’d seen in passing here and there, no one really that stuck out. Standing still, and off to the side a little, he wove through caverns to a distant point. Spotting the only obvious rider amongst them, Kalyr dipped his head, offered a small salute. And positioned himself neatly in the corner, straps bundled next to him, pulling one free, he began to work on them again, tying knots, save knots in appropriate places, weaving them together, skilled hands that were far too used to their work by the seems of things.
He’d already prepared the straps so he could pretty much just fit them together, handling tools with knowledge where necessary for minor adjustments to lengths and such. His mind wandered far from the present situation, methodical distraction that came from repetitive work. But he didn’t really mind. It was nice to have a task that you didn’t really have to apply your mind to, where it was simply automatic.
His distraction came back to Pern, and to the caverns that held the eggs, himself, Rhia and the numerous Candidates. He watched as candidates came in, like an ever growing sea. He felt sorry for the Candidate Mistress to be quite honest. There were many of them, and only one of her, he grimaced a little, as his sympathies laid with her. His mind turned back to the Tanner’s hall, he’d have a few more turns of doing things like this before he settled back there. He hoped he’d get his masters knot. He honestly hoped he’d be worthy of it. But diligence and hard work would get him the majority of the way, he jut had to make certain he had the required level of skill. But that would remain to be seen. He was a fine leatherworker, but he still wasn’t the levels of his Master…

Relina glared at the other candidates coming in. She could almost feel their slight joy in her mistake. She had hoped to sit quietly and listen to what she needed to hear, but her pride had gotten the best of her yet again.
Zorn chirped quietly at the candidates coming in. Relina looked at him with sadness barely visable in her eyes. She was internally glad her Fire-Lizard did not take after her and share her vicious personality. She longed to be as trusting as he but how could she, family never gave a crap about her why should a bunch of people she never met? Humans were not to be trusted, at least, that is what life has taught her.
She shook her head as Zorn showed her a picture of the flying dragons they saw not too long ago. Yes, a dragon could teach her to trust again, a dragon could help her learn. The Dark Fox longed for human companionship but she would never admit it to herself. She straightened herself and looked at the Weyrling Master, ready to listen to what she had to say.

Faine bolted. That was the easiest way to put that. She knew that everyone was supposed to be there at a certain time and still ended up waking up late. She was so embarrassed now, this was probably an extremely important meeting and she was late for it!
Her legs pumped, short red hair bouncing slightly with every step. She quickly turned a corner and almost fell as her feet tripped over themselves. She slowed her pace when she finally reached the Hatching Cavern, looking slightly flushed. She ducked through the crowd, hoping no one would single her out and scold her. Of course when she actually looked around her she realized that a few candidates weren’t there yet. Golden! Maybe she wasn’t a delinquent after all!
Faine stood beside Relina, staring at the girl for a second. She definitely didn’t recognize her. Actually, she didn’t really know a lot of these people. Was she a terrible person for not even knowing her own fellow candidates? “Thank Faranth. I thought I was horribly late.” Faine breathed softly at Relina, offering the girl a large grin. If she wanted to know all the candidates by now, why not start with the girl she was standing with?

Relina looked at the strange girl with slightly interested eyes and raised a brow. This girl had a lot of energy. She nodded slightly at the girl and stared straight ahead, wondering when the lesson was going to be given.
Zorn rustled his wings and chirped happliy at the newcomer, with Relina smiling at his antics. She wondered what the new girl was going to do next and so she stayed where she was to see what would unfold.

Vaelryn was among the first group or so to arrive on the scene, having woken up with enough time to get dressed and pseudo-groomed before heading out to the Hatching sands and up to the tiers where the Weyrlingmaster - and Candidatemaster, for the time being - had said she'd be waiting for them. When he arrived there he looked around the group, stepping over to Rhia and offering a smile and a quick respectful dip of his head. "Candidate Vaelryn reportin in, Candidatemaster Rhia," he greeted, stepping to the side afterward to allow more candidates to give their greetings.
He caught sight of Faine running in a moment later, smiling a bit at her entrance and the words she muttered to the girl beside her. Vaelryn lifted his hand and offered her a silent wave, wanting to give his friend a greeting but not shout across the group.
- - -
Tanwen was among the last group to arrive. She'd never been one to specifically adhere to every strict policy there was, but she was disciplined enough to know when to show up on time, and - though she was learning this moreso since she arrived at the Weyr - who to show respect to. She stepped over to the Candidatemaster when she arrived in the area they were gathering in. "Candidate Tanwen here," she said with a nod, leaving it at that and then stepping off to one side. She was excited about the clutch to be sure, but her expression was it's usual stoic appearance. Truthfully, Tanwen was yearning for the day when she no longer had to use the word 'candidate' in front of her name. She still felt a bit out of place with the newer batch of candidates around her, having missed out on graduating with the candidates - now weyrlings - she'd known since she'd initially arrived.

Rhia was slightly mollified by the girl's response, but only slightly. As more Candidates flowed in she raised her voice to include them.
"To those of you I have not met before, I am Rhia, rider of brown Mneith." The dragon obligingly nodded his head. "I am the Weyrling Master and currently your Candidate Master. You will be seeing a lot of me, so get used to it." She gave them a smile
Andilay's question, coupled with Relina's rudeness a few moments before, just annoyed Rhia further but before she could answer, more Candidates entered.
"Mark Candidate Vaerlyn's greeting and remember it. A bow and a respectful greeting is how you greet your superiors. Different degrees of bows are for different ranks of superiors. As for how long this lesson lasts, it depends on how much trouble you give me and how long it takes me to cover the material that you need to know for the hatching. You will know how long it lasts when it ends."
She pulled out a list on thin hide that Christae had given her of the Candidates and glanced over it. She couldn't put names to faces yet but she would give the other Candidates some time to arrive before she started calling out the list.
OOC: Mina hun the cavern intrance is big enough for dragons and even the entrance from the weyr wouldn't allow anyone to touch the ceiling.

Ezieki Ez strolled in, casually through the main entrance from the bowl, grand lofty entrance, that in a way made him all to aware of just how small he was in comparison to a dragon, which the entry way had been designed for. He looked around him. The room was no less impressive than the first time he entered. Cavernous, enormous room. Possibly the single larges expanse of internal space he had ever laid his eyes upon. As he entered, he winced, realising that he was late. Again. He couldn’t be early even when he tried, it just seemed to go against his nature fundamentally.
He quickened his steps until he stood apart at the side of the candidates, not that he didn’t want to associate with them, just he knew none of them, and they would be far too much of a distraction if he did stand among them – for he would want to know names and details and generally about them, so logic dictated it was wise not to be both ate and a troublemaker. Though, he was sure it would filter in. Sooner rather than later. Especially seen as at the moment, there was the matter of avoiding the gossip about him and R’fael. But that was neither here nor there and he refused to think on it.
Outfit today was again casually edged on the borders of finery. Bangles adorning his wrists, hair tied back into a runner’s tail. A few strikingly blue dyed feathers woven into the tail. Dark trousers led onto brown hide boots, favourites as always.
Catching only the latter parts of the Candidate Mistresses words, he hadn’t heard the part about introductions, only that the ‘lesson’ would take as long as necessary. He groaned inwardly, silently to himself. He hated lessons with a fiery passion like that that was heating the sands before them.
Inclining his head, a hand jangling into a vague position against his midriff, the bow was fairly informal, “Ezieki, formerly of Azvon Hold, Candidate mistress.” He introduced. He felt like that was substantial enough information for her to ascertain it was him, and yet he was respectful enough. For some reason, respect came easier to him around women, than it did with men. Likely the peculiar state of respect within his household, disliking his brother and father a good deal, and adoring his mother and sister, and of course his partner in crime, and cousin Danae, back when they were younger anyway.

Zigana edged in, shy and awkward as ever. She glanced about the room, noting who was there and who wasn't. The room was just so big. It made her feel even more insect-like, even more insubstantial and small than she was. The girl licked at her lips, desperately wishing Meka was with her. Her blue normally comforted her, normally settled her nerves and her thoughts. He made her feel much less like some awkward, gangly someone that was passed over.
But Meka had to stay within the barracks. Zigana hadn't really thought that the blue would be appreciated within the lesson, though she saw another girl with her flitt. The girl strained her mind, trying to think. She came up with a name, but it was vague, and she wasn't sure it was right. Relina. She thought the girl was Relina. Though it could be Salina. The two names sounded so much the same and Zigana hadn't gotten to know either of the girls well enough to know the difference. She thought Salina hung around with that flamboyant boy, Ezieki, though and the girl that was funny, Tumaril.
Realizing her thoughts were snowballing, turning random and hysteric, Zigana took a deep breath, trying to use the motion to instill a sense of confidence she clearly lacked. It didn't work, but she did feel a bit better. Just a bit. Though that faded as she saw the list Rhia held and realized she was late. Shard it.
Zigana edged forward, her dark skirt swirling about her legs. She felt hot and stuffy in her oversized tunic, but she'd much rather wear it than something else. That was just the way things were. She inhaled deeply again and sidled closer to Rhia, almost terrifed by the woman's presence. This was a female who could, jsut by a whim, deny Zigana all her newfound dreams.
The girl gulped and bowed stiffly, feeling ridiculous. "Z-Zigana, Candidate Mistress." Her voice was soft, almost inaudible, before she turned around and scurried back, not wanting to be noticed, but wanting to know what was going on here.
Salina was flustered. How she could have lost track of time, she didn't know, but the truth of it waas that she had and there was no excuse for it. She rushed down corridors and around corners to the Hatching Caverns, feet sllapping against the ground, her long blonde hair flying out behind her, hectic red splashed across her cheeks and an unheard of frantic gleam in her eyes.
The young woman dashed faster and faster, convinced that this was very, very bad. It was, but she was making it much worse in her mind. When was she ever late? This was ridiculous. And of all things, to be late to meet the Candidate Mistress--! Oh no no no. This definitely was not good.
Salina skidded around a corner, spying the archway to the Hatching Caverns just ahead. She stopped, stilling her heart and breath as she smoothed her hair and cheeks, trying to get rid of the frantic evidence. After a few moments, she felt settled, and calm enough to walk in.
Salina immediately approached the brown rider, knowing that to not introduce herself and show her respect for the Candidate Mistress would definitely not go over well. A weyr brat always heard the stories, exaggerated though they were.
The girl bowed respectfully, introducing herself as she did. "Candidate Salina, Candidate Mistress, here for the lesson." She stepped back then, eyes scanning and found Ez, resplendent as always. She faltered a bit as she made her way to join him, remembering the stories she'd heard of him and a brown rider--and not just any rider but R'fael of Keirath. It was so completely scandulous and so completely Ez that she wasn't sure exactly what to think.
Salina sidled next to her Turns old friend, smiling softly as she bumped him with her arm. She didn't want to talk and make a fool of herself, but she did want to say hello in some form or another. Whatever had happened with her best friend and the rider, she didn't care. It was Ez and so she loved him nonetheless.

Relina looked around at the other candidates and narrowed her eyes at them, making herself appear intimidating. There were so many people here, she was beginning to feel uneasy and slightly crowded. Zorn sensed her discomfort and attempted to rub himself against her to try and make her feel better. For whatever reason, it worked. Relina laid her hand on her blue and instantly felt better.
She continued looking at the people coming in, her eyes still narrowed but significantly lacking in the ferocity in which they previously held. Her eyes immediatly focused on the Candidate Master showing her intent to hear what the older rider had to say.

Faine glanced around as more people entered. She saw Vaelryn and grinned at the boy as he offered her a small wave. Well at least she definitely had one candidate friend here! Faine snapped her attention back to the CandidateMaster as the brownrider’s booming voice quieted the candidates. Oops, Faine hadn’t given a greeting at all. She took a step towards Rhia and bowed deeply three times, “Candidate Faine here! Good morning CandidateMaster Rhia.” She took a step back and smiled at Relina.
She stuck out her right hand to the girl, “I’m Faine by the way.” Faine was oblivious to the fact that Relina probably didn’t want to be socializing with such an energetic redhead. Few people did, especially this early in the morning. But it didn’t seem like Relina would have much choice, Faine was nearly impossible to get rid of. “You are?” She asked pleasantly, curious to know the name of her fellow candidate.
Faine’s head turned back towards Rhia as Zigana stated that she too was here. She waved at the girl, beckoning her. “Zigana! Join us over her!” She said loudly, beaming widely.

Relina glared at the flamboyant girl and stared down at her hand. Zorn chirped quietly and curled around Relina's neck as Relina stared at the girl, lost at what she should do. Her head had told her it was a trick but her heart told her the girl meant no harm. She was torn between walking away from the girl and obliging her gesture.
She decided to comprimise and meet somewhere in the middle. Without moving her hand to touch the girl, she looked up and in a dangerous voice replied to her. "Relina, some call me the Dark Fox for my elegance, cunning, and ferocity." She said standing still. She was actually surprised at herself. This was the first time she ever made peaceful (if one could call this particular instance by such) contact with anyone. She breathed deeply as she awaited the girls reply.

Vaelryn had been mid-wave to Faine when Rhia said his name, snapping his attention back towards the Candidatemaster. He hadn't expected a simple greeting to get him acknowledged in front of the entire grouping of candidates. It hadn't exactly occurred to him that some of the others there - maybe most, by the way Rhia made such a point of it - might not have been raised in an environment where 'proper' greetings were used very often. He'd had to get used to them early on in life; when they hadn't been in the privacy of their family living quarters (when they'd been out in front of other Hold and Craftsmen), he'd had to address his father as Master Vintyr, after all. Likewise, he'd often had to introduce himself as Journeyman (apprentice, when he'd been younger) vintyr to anyone visiting their crafthall.
He looked back to Faine a moment later when she half-shouted out her greeting, smiling a bit at how quickly she'd seen to 'correct' herself. In the few moments before Rhia officially began the lesson, Vaelryn sidled over to stand by Faine and the other girl - Relina - that was with her. "Good show, Faine," he said, using it as an expression, and not meaning that she'd actually been putting on a show. He looked to Relina, having arrived just in time to hear her introduction. "The Dark Fox, aye?" he said. "Awful flashy nickname, though it does have a certain ring te it." He offered a warm smile. "Me names Vaelryn, splendid te meet ye." He might've said more to add to the conversation, but Rhia spoke up then and he turned his attention back to her.
- - -
Tanwen kept to her spot off to the side, looking over to Rhia when she spoke up. Well, her own greeting hadn't exactly been praised, but Tanwen knew after the last round of Candidate lessons (before the last hatching) that her own choice of shorter greeting had been deemed at least acceptable. Or, at least, she'd never been spoken to about it being unacceptable.
The strawberry blond did sigh a bit exasperatedly when Rhia gave them the information of what they would be learning. From what she remembered, these last lessons were the most intense, or at any rate the most thorough - and that was when they weren't being rushed. Putting them all into one lesson plan? That would certainly be...fun. She couldn't say she didn't see why it was being rushed though, what with an already-hardened clutch of eggs on the sand. Tanwen found herself looking towards the edge of the stands and at the sands where the eggs were nestled. Her bored expression of stoicism softened in a bit of a dreamy-eyed look in the moment that she looked towards the eggs.

OOC: Xen, please place some sort of symbol to separate your characters posts like ~~~ or ** or even ----.
Catelina, foxes don't exist on Pern so she wouldn't have the name of Dark Fox. I'm sure there's some other animal indigenous to Pern that you can use. I'll find a link with flora and fauna for you since we're working on redoing ours at the moment.

"Beg your pardon, Weyrling Master. I meant no offense." Andilay cleared her throat and gave a bow. "I am Candidate Andilay, and the hazy red head is Candidate Rayn... who is out of sorts and I ask your forgiveness on her behalf."
Shards! She hadn't meant to annoy the Weyrling/Candidate Master! It was simply a question she needed to ask because the answer was important to her, she didn't say it to be rude. Perhaps the Master simply didn't like her. Andilay was often told she had 'one of those faces', whatever that means.
Not that it mattered. She had been taught to always show the proper respect to her superiors and elders, as well as to always use proper manners since she was very young. Her father had made sure that such lessons were drilled into her memory. But, of course, there was still things to learn. After all, her father never saw the need to teach her about weyr goings on, or proper weyr etiquette. She didn't know what she was expected to know here.
Even though she was born in a weyr(which one she didn't know) They left it before Andilay began to walk, so she did not remember it. Apparently, staying there was too painful... poor father.
No! No sad thoughts! She was too old and had to much responsibility to give in to such depressing things. Andilay lightly shook her head and scanned the incoming candidates... her fellows. She knew none of them, unfortunately. Since coming here both herself and Rayn had only really talked to one weyrling and one dragonrider. Perhaps that heft them at a disadvantage... Admin's Note:
Well, it left her at a disadvantage. Andilay was terrible with introducing herself randomly to others. Though, once she got over her initial shyness everything was fine.. it was always starting out that took forever.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When Andy introduced her to the Weyrling Master Rayn gave a shaky bow. She didn't really think a blow to the head would be this hampering, seeing as she had some experience with them... but perhaps self inflicted pain hurt longer. That and she should learn not to run so fast indoors... darn momentum.
If anything could catch her attention in her painful haze it was another with her hair color. Red was such a vibrant hue, and this guy had no problem showing it off and then embellishing on it. When another candidate walked over to him and stopped but said nothing Rayn got curious. So what did she do? She got closer... and decided to say... something.
"Hello... uh.. fellow candidates?" Wow... could she sound any sharding lamer?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Verdann scratched his head in surprised bewilderment. "Oh? So that's what I'm supposed to do?" He smiled and let out a single chuckle as he bowed gracefully. "Candidate Verdann, report'n, Candidate Master Rhia." When he straightened he had a big grin on his face. And when he glanced around his face did a happy twitch of recognition.
"Relina! Nice to see you again."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Since there were so many candidates now Sleyer figured he might as well stop being the odd candidate in the entrance and actually greet the Candidate/Weyrling Master. He 'trudged' over to her and gave her a respectful bow, his greeting barely above a whisper, but not quite a mumble. There were to many girls here, he didn't feel like attracting attention to himself... though being quiet, unknown to him, might just get more curious glances than if he had spoken normally.
