The runner stopped at Caspian Hold. He was soaked with sweat. He had been running for the past three or four days, trying to find the person that the hide in his pouch went to. He had been sent on a wild goose chase. The sea holder had thought his son was at Eteii Weyr, but the weyr was closed. He had gone to a nearby hold and got information about the transfers. The nearest station was at Caspian Hold.
He was here to pass off the message to a Caspian hold runner so that he could return to his home station and rest. He sincerely hoped that he wouldn't be required to run to the Weyr. This was not his normal territory and he was already tired.
OOC: This is currently for Kami, others will have a chance to enter after and yes, I know it should be in Caspian hold but you'll see later why I put it here.

[I'm assuming the runner is an npc there, so I'm just gonna throw his exit into my post xD let me know if he's not an npc though]
Naret had been woken up a bit earlier than he'd have planned on by the flitt that had hatched to him the day before, pestering him for food. Ikarit had joined in on waking the boy up once the flitt's crys persisted, as it interrupted his cat napping as well. He'd already been told off enough times the night before about trying to play with the little creature, and so had settled for letting it be - the crying, however, he wanted his human to deal with.
So Naret had gotten up, headed to the station's kitchen, gotten a good breakfast of fruit and milk for himself along with a plate of meat for the flitt and his feline - making sure to cut the ones for his bronze smaller than the ones for Ikarit. As they ate he realized that he still hadn't chosen a name for the creature, but he figured there was no rush in the matter. It wasn't as though the bronze was going to hear him say the name anytime soon. His bond with the creature would have to be based mostly on their minds.
Now that the sun rising over the horizon he was dressed and ready to go. Ikarit was trotting by his side, following as usual at his own pace but always keepign the boy in view, and the bronze was nestled carefully in a pouch Naret had added to his belt. The leather top of the pouch was fashioned over the flitt in a way that held him in gently but firmly, while still giving him room to poke his head out if he wanted to take a look around.
It wasn't difficult for him to see who he was getting a message from. The exhausted runner coming up towards the station was very clearly the only other person awake right now. Naret jogged over to him, scribbling the note, "Thanks. Go get some rest." on the pad of paper he always had with him and trading it off with the runner afterwards. The other mans' expression made it clear he thought he was being given another message to run at first, but when he read it he gave a relieved sigh, gave Naret a nod and a smile, and went off towards the station to rest. Naret tucked the note away in one of his pouches, whistled over to Ikarit to let him know he was leaving, and started off on the runner trace towards Dark Moon Weyr.
[You can take that scene skip all the way to the Weyr. I'll just say he's been running for awhile.]

The Watchdragon bugled an announcement to the Weyr. A visitor was coming. It looked like a runner.
Rhia had her Weyrling class in the Bowl, teaching them how to care for their growing dragons. Kaith was sunning herself on her ledge, her golden hide gleaming. Christae came out of her office, watching the access entrance to the Bowl for the arrival of the visitor.
She called for a drudge to bring some cool juice and some rolls for the runner. She waited for him to reach her so she could see who the message was for.

After the runner had given her the message, Christae sent another drudge to find the rider that the message was for. She had not read the message but she hadn't read it. That was not her place. The message was from the recently transferred brownrider's family. She hoped it contained good news. She thought the brownrider needed it after the deaths of so many of his weyrmates.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The drudge found the brownrider with his wing, drilling and told him that the Weyrwoman wanted to see him. He strode to the part of the Bowl that the Weyrwoman was waiting in and bowed.
"You wished to see me Weyrwoman?" The redhead had firestone dust on his face around where his goggles were. He looked like a Terran raccoon and his freckles were even covered in black dust.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Christae handed him the rolled up hide. "You have a letter from your parents. Apparently, it was sent a few sevendays back but the runner went to Eteii."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
T'ren didn't flinch at the mention of his old weyr like he would have done a few sevendays ago. He had forgotten to send a message to them telling him where he was now. They didn't even know about Danaeth.
"I've been horribly lax in keeping them updated." His voice was sheepish. "They don't even know about Danaeth."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Perhaps you should take some time to visit them?" Christae suggested. She knew the sea hold wasn't that far from Dark Moon even though it had fallen under Eteii's protection.
She waited while T'ren read the message.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Weyrwoman, my parents have offered to send some fish to my Weyr. They think it is Eteii but I am certain they would be happy to send it here, especially if they find out that our stores are so low. Wouldn't that solve some of our problems?" T'ren's voice was excited. This was a way to thank the Weyr that had taken him in after the tragedy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"I believe that would help greatly. Please send them a message and let me know if the offer still stands. I can send other riders to go with you. You can even use my flitt to send the message if you wish. Birinj is a very reliable messenger, especially if you have Danaeth give him a picture of the place from your mind."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Thank you Weyrwoman. I will have a message for you shortly."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A few hours later the message was returned with heartfelt condolences about the situation and a willing and excited offer to provide the Weyr that housed their son with both dried and fresh fish. The hurricane hadn't hurt the Sea Hold that T'ren was from. On the contrary, the fishing had picked up and the hold had a surplus.
Christae assured T'ren that the next day, she would send a team of riders with him to obtain the fish and allow him to catch up with his family.

Word had been sent out that morning – Dark Moon was being offered a rather nice supply of fish and riders were needed to transport it. Akki had originally wanted to go but in a series of odd circumstances was no longer able too. So she did the next best thing.
Clung to Hasima and suggested that she should go instead.
The yellowrider wasn’t sure if she should go or not. To be honest she hadn’t really done much since the night where she was attacked by Jormir. Rimith and her were still sending their thank you’s to K’ris and Andilay – without them, Hasima would have ended up badly. She had spent the time in her weyr, Rimith watching over her carefully. Maybe this was a good opportunity to get out and about though? Even if for just a little bit.
That’s how they ended up waiting in the WeyrBowl, Rimith all saddled up and ready to go. Please make sure to be careful HasimaMine Rimith crooned softly, nudging the girl lightly with the end of her snout. For the next few sevendays the yellow was going to be keeping an eye on her rider – she didn’t want to take any more risks.
“I know, I will be.” She said softly, sending a small smile that she hoped looked reassuring. There wouldn’t be anything dangerous there right? They were just transporting fish really. Hasima ran a hand through her black hair and waited patiently for others to arrive.

T'ren was checking the net that Christae had had the drudges pull out of storage. They were used to transport fruits and the like. There was another one off to the side, a larger one for two dragons. Depending on who came with him, he might have to take more trips with the larger one or see if there was another smaller one for another dragon to carry by itself.
Danaeth sat in the Weyr Bowl near his rider, his somewhat shabby, but well-cared for straps already on his back. He was excited about being able to meet his rider's family. He knew that his rider missed them. They hadn't been far out of Weyrlinghood before Eteii was hit by the plague and T'ren had been quarantined to avoid spreading it. The quarantine had ended and T'ren had transferred to Dark Moon. Now they finally had the time and permission and a good excuse to go visit.
T'ren looked up at Danaeth's bugled greeting to the yellow. "Hello." T'ren said, waving to the yellowrider and wiping his dusty hands off on his riding breeches. He would have to get the dragons to dip the nets in the sea when they got there because they were dusty from being picked up so long. He was pleasantly surprised that the rope had good knots and was still in good condition. He figured that a seaman had tied the knots.
"Will you be helping me transport the fish?" He offered a hand to shake. "T'ren of brown Danaeth. I've only been here for a few sevendays."

K'dan had been enlisted to help as well. Which was perfectly fine with him. The bluerider loved the sea and fishing was perhaps in his blood. The bluerider had prepared his dragon for this trip and now the duo were gliding down to the weyrbowl where the others were.
Hydrath landed as gracefully as he could, and K'dan had to admit the blue was getting better with the landings. He got off Hydrath and walked towards the others. "Hello", K'dan smiled and waved, a simple but cheerful greeting.
Good day Danaeth and Rimith. I hope you and yours are well today. Hydrath's greeting was just as warm and friendly. He did his best to show care to other dragons and make friends where he could. Hydrath wasn't one to turn down the possibility of forging new friendships. Perhaps it was a trait learned from K'dan, or a trait he picked up somewhere else down along the line.

Hasima was gently scratching Rimith’s eyeridges when T’ren called out. She jerked back, surprised for she didn’t see the man appear and then quickly changed her facial expression to something that didn’t look so shocked.
She let a small smile appear on her face and gave a soft, “Hello.” She took his hand and shook it once – her handshake was no doubt rather weak. She nodded at his question and let out another smile, “Nice to meet you. I’m Hasima of yellow Rimith.” At the mention of her name the yellow dragon swiveled her head to stare at T’ren before giving it a slight nod. He seemed like a decent fellow, there was no reason for her to be worried.
Rider and dragon stared at the sky as K’dan and his blue glided in, Yes, we are well. I hope you and yours are also well/ The yellow greeted back politely. Hasima stared at the blue dragon for a moment before letting her eyes drift back to T’ren, a quiet question slipping out of her mouth, “Do you know how fish we are getting?”

Danaeth returned the greetings. We are well Hydrath. I hope you can say the same of you and your rider. Mine is most pleased to be able to go back home and introduce me to his parents. I am certain they will welcome you as well. The brown included the yellow in the reply. T'ren glanced at the two dragons, sizing them up. They should be able to handle the larger, two dragon net. Danaeth would easily be able to carry a full smaller net.
Danaeth, ask Kaith to bespeak Christae and see if there is a smaller net for one dragon to carry.
The brown respectfully concurred with the Weyrwoman's giant Queen and then responded to his rider.
Kaith says that she had already instructed the drudges to bring out a smaller net. She said they should be out with it shortly.
"Well met Hasima." Hydrath and K'dan arrived as T'ren was about to answer Hasima's question. "Well met as well K'dan. I'm T'ren of Danaeth. I'm not quite sure how much fish we'll be getting. Mother said that the fishing has been plentiful since the hurricane hit and volcanic activity has scared schools of fish in our direction from their normal feeding grounds. Normally the fleet has to go out farther to catch such bounty but lately they've been able to get more closer to home so they can make more trips. They've been selling the surplus but they would rather it go to a better cause. They have more than they could ever sell from what Mother's letter told me."
T'ren's voice was friendly even though the shadows hadn't quite faded from his eyes. It was something that would take a while. "Danaeth said that there should be another net coming out soon. If we don't fill the nets up with fish, there's some fruit trees nearby that we can bring to the weyr. My parents have a wild orchard near the hold that I used to play in when I was a lad."
He looked up. The drudges were coming with the other net. "There's the net there. Do you think Rimith and Hydrath can handle that larger net together?" He accepted the net from the drudge and glanced over it. The drudge waited to see if that was what the rider needed before going back to the weyr. "I'll need some twine. There's some holes in the net that the fish will fall through. It won't take me but a few minutes to mend the net. Faranth knows I've been mending nets for Turns before I turned rider."

We are both well. Thank you for asking Danaeth. Hydrath responded to the brown. Indeed we are, Rimith. You are kind to ask. Hydrath made sure to respond to Rimith as well.
"I'm sure they can", K'dan responded simply, with a nod. However, K'dan's response showed confidence in the two dragons. K'dan watched as the drudges brought in another net. He then looked over to T'ren as he talked about fixing it. "Perhaps I could help as well. It's been some time, but I use to help my father mend fish nets", the bluerider offered his help to T'ren. It had been awhile and K'dan wasn't confident of how much skill he still had in mending them, but he could still offer his assistance.

Naret had been more than happy to take the Weyrwoman up on her offer of refreshment, and after he'd finished eating and drinking - considering the distance he'd have to run back - he was offered lodging for the night by one of the kitchen staff. The next morning, as the riders outside were bustling around with their netting, Naret was packed up and ready to head off once more. He'd stopped into the kitchen to refill his waterskin and get a bite for the little firelizard he'd been stuck with a few days prior, and stepped out into the day to do a bit of stretching before running off.
[Short, yes, but I just need to put SOMETHING there to get back into it.]

Rimith silently spoke to Hasima, repeating some of the words that the brown was feeding to her. In Hasima’s mind it seemed odd that the brownrider’s parents hadn’t met his dragon…but if she thought about it long enough she would realize that her parents hadn’t met Rimith. They probably never would either – however this fact went well over her head.
She nodded as the man spoke. It was nice of his parents to give the Weyr fish. Their supplies had been low since the hurricane so the fact that T’ren’s family had a sudden load of fish to give away seemed like quite the good fortune. Plus, like the brownrider pointed out, there was also the possibility of a few fruit trees. It was nice to know that Dark Moon could rely on people when it was needed. It was a well known fact now that some Holds considered the Weyr a bother and were trying to stop delivering supplies to it. A tricky situation.
She gazed at the net as it was brought into view and slowly nodded her head. “Yes, they can.”. Rimith was on the smaller side but she was still a pretty strong dragon – agile too. The yellow crooned softly and pressed the tip of her snout to her Mine. Hasima frowned for a moment and then smiled apologetically, “I can’t help with the mending; fingers are clumsy.” Her words were spoken softly but it was probably one of the longer sentences people have heard her talk. Which was actually rather sad.

T'ren smiled. "Thank you for the offer of help K'dan but I think I can handle it. There aren't that many holes. Once I'm done with this we can head out." The brownrider thanked the drudge and began mending the net when the man brought him the twine and the other tools he needed.
"Good. I figured your dragons would be able to carry it but I wanted to make sure rather than assume."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Priath winged into the bowl, bugling a greeting to the watch dragon. She saw the trio of dragons in the bowl and landed far enough away not to throw dust on them. She bugled a greeting to them as her rider dismounted, walking awkwardly closer to converse with Rimith, her clutch sister, and the blue and brown.
Anassa hailed the other riders as she hurried past, a message scroll in her hand. "I'd stop and chat but I'm running errands today." The greenrider called. She was almost past when Priath poked her nose into the runner that was standing nearby, stretching.
"Priath, quit bothering the runner."
Ask him if he would like to be a rider.
"What?" Anassa looked confused.
I think he would suit. Ask him if he would like to be a rider.]/color]
"Oh! Runner, I am Anassa, and my dragon is Priath. She has told me to ask you if you would like to become a dragonrider."
Naret had slowed one of his stretches to look towards the dragon as they came in for a landing, continuing on with them a moment later. He was bending over to finish up the last of his stretches on his legs when something nudged him forward. He staggered for a moment, then stood straight and turned around to look at the green wedge-shaped head staring intently at him with faceted eyes. The youth gave a bit of a wide-eyed blink, and at the same time his feline had come out to meet the boy, though he seemed to be content with watching the goings on from farther away. The feline wasn't exactly comfortable yet around the presence of the much-larger-than-him dragons.
When the greenrider called 'Runner' out to him he looked over, offering a smile at the introduction and a friendly nod. At the rest of her comment, however, his smile fell away into a sort of shocked confusion. Surely the woman had to be joking, or speaking to another runner. He looked in either direction to confirm that he was the only runner in the area, then turned back to Anassa and pointed to himself as if to confirm that she had, for certain, been speaking to him.
Anassa smiled. She had remembered the incredulity she had felt when she had been first Searched back at the Harper Hall.
"Yes dear. I meant you. Priath has Searched you. We should be having a clutch on the sands within a couple of months, give or take a few sevendays. Would you be interested in standing?"
Priath blew out, her firestone scented breath pungent in the air. "Priath, that's not nice."
Sorry. Hadn't fully regurgitated that last bit of firestone from training tomorrow.
"Well don't regurgitate it here! Wait until we're *between* or somewhere that I can clean it up better." She hadn't realized she had spoken aloud.
Naret's expression took a moment to change from the surprised confusion, but as the Rider went on to explain about the clutch coming up it changed to a more thoughtful, considering one. Granted, the note of surprise was still there. Part of him wanted to ask if someone who couldn't speak could actually stand, but clearly that wasn't an issue if the dragon had already zeroed in on him.
He pulled his notebook and sharpened charcoal out as the Rider spoke to her dragon, and started writing something down. Naret looked up at the comment on regurgitation, blinking once at the conversation topic, and then finished the bit on his notebook. He stepped forward and offered it up to the Rider, hoping she'd pick up on his wanting her to read it.
The writing said: Interested, no question. How to settle with Station Master?
Having done the note thing his whole life, he'd picked up a way of keeping them short, not exactly 'full' sentences. Hopefully she'd still understand what he was saying; that he was interested without a doubt, but wasn't sure how getting out of his duties as a runner would go about being done. Did they return to tell the Station Master that he'd been searched and there's nothing they can do about it? Did the Station Master's opinion of the matter have anything to do with his ability to be searched? Or did he simply never return to the station? Clearly what he'd written took up far less space.
Anassa looked a bit puzzled when the runner took out a notebook and charcoal. She watched and then read what he had written. Then realization dawned. The runner hadn't said a word the entire time. Her Harper training made her very astute about things.
"You're mute?" There was no condemnation in her voice. "As far as your Station Master goes, where are you stationed? I am running errands today. It would be nothing for me to get clearance to take you back to your station if you're done delivering. I'm certain your Station Master won't deny you this opportunity. If he needs you to run until a replacement comes from the Hall or elsewhere in the Southern Continent, we can just set a date for you to come here to start your Candidate training. I don't think Master Rhia and Master Akki are training the Candidates just yet so you won't be behind."
Naret gave a nod-shrug combination to confirm her suspicions, receiving the notebook back as she went on to answer his question. Well, he'd never been dragon-back, but it sure sounded a lot quicker than running. He looked down at a light nudge on his leg; Ikarit had finally built up the courage to come and sit behind him, though he was still eying the dragon with fluffed-up fur and wide pupils. Naret watched the feline for a moment, wondering how that reaction would fare with his ride back to the Hold, and then turned back to write his answer on the notepad; he handed it over after he was finished.
Done delivering. Stationed at Caspian, and there are usually plenty of Runners.
