Bright, black dappled, forest green hide glimmered in the scorching midday sun. The Cleanup was done for the most part and there had even been a Masquerade in celebration. All that had taken a toll on the riders and their dragons energy wise. Priath was taking the time to sleep out in the sun. Her spicy scented hide gleamed with health even though she had been busy with her rider.
Anassa had her pipes in her hands and was working on a little melody. She had the unfinished score in front of her and she was trying to find the right note sequence to tie in the two measures she had already come up with. She just needed a transition. The melody was cute and light so she wanted to avoid any flats that would make the piece sound darker.
Anassa could tell that her dragon was restless. Her tail kept twitching and she kept shifting on the stone of her ledge. Normally during this part of the day Priath would sleep in the coolness of the weyr on the dragon couch that had been worn smooth by her body, but today, the dragon wanted the sun. Her hide glowed, and Anassa knew enough to know what that meant. The past couple of days her dragon had been more broody than usual and her hide had steadily been getting brighter.
The only question was, when? How long did Anassa have before she rose to mate? The young greenrider didn't really know any of the male riders, at least not in a way that she could definitely say that he was the one who's dragon she wanted to win. This could be awkward for her. She was no virgin. She had had one lover back in the Harper Hall, but that was not long before she left for the Weyr and it hadn't been a memorable time. She supposed it had been for the best that she left. She found her former lover to be boring and self-absorbed.
Anassa's thoughts were interupted as she felt her bonded's mind begin to stir. Suddenly, the dragon was keenly alert, and ravenous. Her blood sang and Anassa gasped at the intensity of the feelings.
She ran out of her weyr in time to see Priath rear up and bellow her lusty challenge to the skies before she leapt from the ledge and glided down to the feeding pens to pounce upon a hapless wherry buck.
"Blood only!" Anassa yelled, knowing that she was too far away for her dragon to hear. She sprinted swiftly down the stairs and across the side of the Bowl to the feeding pens, bearing down on her dragon with her will like she had been instructed by WLM Rhia to do.
Thank Faranth she was only a Green! Anassa could not imagine trying to control a haughty Queen. Priath fought but was more concerned with the hot blood pumping energy in her glowing green hide. With another mighty bugle, she leapt to the skies, taunting any male that intended to chase after her.

K'dan had just finished bathing his dragon. When he was done, he had decided to remove his shirt and lounge on the sandy shore of the lake. Bathing Hydrath was a more tiring task than it had been when he was but a small dragonet. K'dan chuckled to himself. He remembered having the smallest blue of the bunch. The only smaller one was-K'dan cut off his thoughts quickly. He wanted to stay in this merry mood of his.
But it didn't seem the bluerider would get to relax. K'dan was certainly settled and content, but Hydrath turned alert and ready. K'dan sighed and sat up wearily. If he could have just gotten a couple more minutes of lounging, that'd have been great. But as K'dan looked Hydrath over, he noticed that look and that posture. The feelings he was getting from the blue were all too familiar as well. Who? The bluerider asked simply. It's not like he knew many here, especially not any female riders. Well, besides Akki, Rhia, and Christae. But the first two had male dragons and Hydrath wouldn't dare chase a queen. Was it a greenrider? Did he know any greenriders yet? It could be a mutant color, but he didn't know enough about the female mutant colors Darkmoon had and he certainly didn't know of any of the riders.
Priath. The blue responded just as simply. Hydrath knew enough greens to know who it was at the very least. K'dan could only blink and hope to recall the rider of a dragon named Priath. But he wouldn't get any more out of Hydrath, he took to the skies towards the green goal. K'dan could only run as fast as he could after him.
K'dan ran to the feeding pens and it was there that he saw a girl. Was it the rider of the green? Of course! It had to be. He looked over to see Hydrath blooding his kill. The blue seemed ready and raring to go. It wasn't often that Hydrath had such intense focus, even in a flight. But apparently something really sparked Hydrath. When the green rose to the air after her mighty bugle, the blue took after her quickly.
The blue bugled in return, sounding off that he was more than ready to meet this challenge, and catch her. His rider, however, had finally made it to the feeding pens and leaned against something as he caught his breath. "That blue does not give any warning", K'dan said aloud to no one in particular, as he was catching his breath. He soon regained his composure and straightened up. "At the very least, I got a good running exercise out of it", he finally said with a shrug, putting a positive spin on the situation.

Sorry. Was the only word Ebbeth said as he lifted his head slightly off of their weyr ledge. Akki didn't even understand right away and just gave him a curious look. She understood completely when Ebbeth pushed himself up off the ground, the green in his eyes dissapearing to see a furious red, churning. The blue leapt into the air just moments after Hydrath, angling for the herding pens. Akki quickly moved to the ledge and peered around, spotting Priath almost immediately. "Nooooooo." Akki said softly, as if a groan. There was no point in even trying to stop Ebbeth now, not that she could. The dark blue quickly blooded his kill, he would not let Hydrath get too far ahead of him.
Akki turned on the spot and quickly ran to the stairs that would lead to the Weyr Bowl, curses resting on the tip of her tongue as she made sure not to trip on her own feet. Truthfully, she didn't really care if Ebbeth ever caught a dragon that had a female rider. To her a flight was just a flight, another dragonrider duty. But she didn't want that girl to be a friend of hers, that could easily ruin a friendship. She jumped the last few steps, moving quickly towards the herdpen with the others.
Ebbeth dropped the dead herdbeast, his head turning to look into the sky. He once again pushed himself off of the ground and in a flurry of sand and wings, rising into the air. He opened his jaw, a silent bellow escaping. It rang in Akki's head loudly, and she was sure that the others could hear it in their minds.
I will not let that inexperienced blue catch you. Ebbeth said almost venomously, his competitive side showing very obviously.
-----
It was interesting how things worked out. What seemed like moments before Priath began her flight, V'ian and Waeith just returned to Dark Moon. He had went back home to collect some of his belongings and get transfer papers. He liked Dark Moon even though he hadn't spent very much time at it. The people he had met so far were actually quite nice. Things were slightly more relaxed here, far different from strict Igen and he truly enjoyed that. Plus he still had his sister to find, so transferring seemed like it made sense. He was just about to go turn in his transferring papers and talk to the Weyrwoman to see if this was okay with her when Priaths loud challenge reached his ears.
I intend to catch her. Please do not hold this against me. Waeith informed his rider. Even in a situation like this, the bronze still remembered to use his manners. What could V'ian do? Yell and hit his bronze, screaming 'NONONO.' Admin's Note:[/hr] There wasn't much of an option, once a flight began you simply couldn't get out of it. V'ian and Waeith had won a few flights before, but you could never get used to the fact that there was the chance of waking up to some complete stranger the next day.
The rider sprinted back to the Weyr Bowl, where Waeith was stuck in his gear. V'ian moved quickly to remove it, and when it was finally off Waeith lightly bumped his snout against his riders chest. A rather cute gesture V'ian couldn't help but think as his bronze flew towards the herding pens with the other dragons. A herdbeast grasped in his talons, Waeith quickly sunk his teeth into the animal and proceeded to blood it. V'ian took long and quick strides across the sand, reaching the herdpens swiftly.
V'ian recognized Anassa there and was fully aware that she was a greenrider. It was her green that was rising wasn't it? Oh, how awkward! He had only managed to talk to her for a while and now his bronze was competing for her greens attention. He let out a small groan, watching as Waeith dropped the herdbeast and quickly took to the skies. His bronze wings pumped, allowing Waeith to glide for now so he could save his energy for when the flight became more competitive. You can do so much better than blues. Waeith said solemnly, snorting at the competition nearby.
V'ian glanced around to see who the other riders were. He had met only a few people so far and was curious to see if any of them would be here. He looked at K'dan, not recognizing the strange rider. He looked on his other side, there was someone standing just a bit behind Anassa. He made a weird noise (If he was drinking something, he would have spat it out in surprise) and stared at the other rider with wide eyes.
"Akkivahna?!"

The seasoned blue’s eyes whirred softly with light shades of blue and green, though, less noticeable was the random thread of red that had somehow mingled into the wash. Chaovith stirred, a deep throaty rumble emanated from him. The blue wandered slowly to the ledge, looking skyward. Chaovith could feel the tension rising around him, like under his hide, were strings of glows, tingling and warming his muscles.
The older blue flared his wings, hissing slightly at the wind for changing its direction in the most minor way, propelling himself from the ledge, he took flight. The air was warm, but it still felt cool against his hide, he struck at a strong herdbeast, the creature thrashed, but soon its life was extinguished and Chaovith’s maw stained with the creatures blood. His wings beating slightly heavier now as he came to land, draining the last of the metallic liquid from the corpse.
His eyes were whirring faster now. Q’sin, I am called to chase The blue had no falsities, or fear in his tone, he hear a general noise of acceptance from his bond.
Q’sin, pragmatic as ever, knew his blue was unlikely to win, the blue didn’t have a great deal of stamina, he was small for a blue, though strong, he did not do tremendously well in extended flights, or displays of such. Q’sin sighed as he pushed down his writing implement, and descended from his weyr.
He crossed the bowl quite leisurely, until he reached the feeding pens where a few had gathered, he still hadn’t managed to socialise much, and was in a deficit of knowledge of names for those about him.
Chaovith growled in a low tone at the other’s more stand-off-ish displays, she stood bold, and strong. Proud. He watched Priath silently, eyes never leaving her form for more than a fleeting glance towards her other competitors.
Q’sin didn’t make a strong effort to involve himself in the conversations, he felt like a bystander, but he would let Chaovith get this out of his system, the blue had been quite uneasy for the past sevenday.

Anassa didn't know the bluerider that arrived. She did recognize Akki and she bit back a groan. Poor Akki. She saw V'ian and gave him a nod and a small, tense smile. Her dragon was no longer fighting her to eat the meat but her dragonlust was trying to overpower her human partner.
She caught V'ian's startled excplamation. "Akkivahanna? You were looking for Akki?" Her voice was filled with surprise.
In the skies, Priath was oblivious to her rider's discovery. She was pleased that a bronze had joined the flight. She gave a taunting cry and rose through the clouds, feeling their moisture along her glowing green body.

Danaeth was enjoying the fact that his rider was oiling him near the Weyrbowl. The redheaded brownrider had his shirt off and shorts that were falling low on his waist because of the weight he had lost. His eyes still looked haunted but T'ren was regaining some of his old mischieviousness now that he wasn't surrouned by memories of the people he had lost.
His brown's hide was only halfway done when the brown let out a bugle and his eyes turned red. T'ren had been in flights before. His brown had even won one of them. That hadn't sat too well with his Weyrmate back at Eteii. He pushed the thoughts of her aside. It was time to start living in the present rather than wallowing in the past of what he had lost. She would want him to be happy.
I will chase.
Good luck. T'ren wished his brown the best of luck. He didn't care one way or the other but he knew that it would make his brown feel good and he had been without a woman for quite some time. It was good to know that he still had those urges. It meant he was still alive.
Danaeth gave an apologetic croon for interupting T'ren's oiling. It would mean that the brownrider would have to bathe and oil him again.
Go my love. Don't worry about it. He didn't mind oiling his bonded's hide. The beast meant everything to him.
Danaeth leapt into the air with a challenging bugle to the other males and a croon for the female he was chasing.

Dragons of varying colors continued to fly up from wherever they were, joining the flight so they could win Priath’s attention. Within moments another blue was in the air. Akki tried to think as quickly as she could, fighting the dragonlust that was emanating from Ebbeth. What male dragons were at Dark Moon? Some probably were not at the Weyr at this very moment, so the bluerider wondered who else would join the green’s flight. Most dragons, currently, were just dragonets – bonded to the new batch of weyrlings. She was caught up in her thoughts when a name reached her ears, burning them.
Not just any name, her name. Her full name. The name that she thoroughly dreaded that few people knew. She slowly looked towards the direction of where the voice came from. And there was V’ian, looking as if he just found some magical rainbow dragon. She stared at her brother, eyes squinted with disbelief with her mouth slightly open. This didn’t even make sense to her. Why was V’ian here? She looked up to the sky, spotting the bronze. She flung her hand into the air, pointing at the sky. “That’s Waeith?! Why is he here? Why are you here? What is going on.” Akki said loudly, completely lost.
She looked at Anassa, “Wait. You know V’ian?” Why did her friend know her brother? Nothing was making sense. Akki grasped her head as a look of disgust became obvious on her face. “Oh shards! I’m competing in a flight against my brother! This is so weird!” This could be the worst family reunion ever.
Like Priath, Ebbeth was completely lost in the dramatic discoveries occurring on the ground. He was too busy concentrating on the green prize that taunted them. A magnificent green, one that he wanted to catch.
----
V’ian stared at Anassa in surprise. “Akki? Who’s Akki?” His voice was filled with utter confusion. He looked at his sister and with the gears in his brain quickly churning, figured everything out. Of course she wouldn’t be called Akkivahna. She never did like that name so it made sense she would shorten it when she came to Dark Moon. No one knew her there and she could easily start a new name without anyone noticing.
“I came here looking for you! But no one knew who I was talking about because you’re dumb and didn’t use your name. No wonder everyone thought I was some kind of nut, searching for someone that never existed.” He realized with some sort of ‘Woe is me!’ expression on his face. He shook his head because there were simply no words that could exactly define what he was feeling at that moment. He looked at Anassa and gave her a lopsided grin.
“I guess in a way you did help me find my sister.” He said with a tinge of amusement in his voice. If it wasn’t for this flight, who knew when he would have stumbled upon Akkivah – er - Akki.
V’ian could feel Waeith’s dragonlust pulling at him. He could also feel the slight wave of distaste roll over his bronze as a brown joined the flight. It was more competition. Waeith stretched his body and pumped his wings harder, breaking through the layers of clouds that the green was flying through moments before.

K'dan was completely lost to the events unfolding around him. He had noticed Akki arrive, and gave her a nod of recognition. But the look in K'dan's eyes said it all. He was becoming enveloped in his dragon's desire and lust. Hydrath was only like every few flights, with strong emotions. K'dan felt the heat throughout his body. Not necessarily heat, but it was the feeling of heat.
Hydrath didn't give any thought to the other dragons that had made their presence known in the flight. He was solely focused on the green Priath and he wouldn't avert his attention from her for even a fraction of a moment. He crooned softly, pleasingly at the green in show that it was only her that had his attention.

"He was looking for his sister for the past few sevendays. He said your name was Akkivahanna though. I didn't make the connection to you Akki. He thought you rode a green." Anassa fought the dragonlust though it was very close to taking over her.
Priath scorned all of her suitors. Not one had proven himself worthy of her yet. She was pleased by the turn out. Even a great bronze vied for her attention along with a handsome brown and three blues.
Anassa gave an ironic smile. "I guess I did help you, though not in the way I would have imagined. Shards what a mess." She had caught Akki's comment about competeing against her brother and she felt a twinge of pity for her friend, forced to endure flights where her blue chased after dragons with female riders. She figured that Rhia was probably glad that she and her brown were out of the Weyr with the Weyrlings.
Priath dove, pulling her black edged wings close to her lithe body, gathering speed. She didn't dive down far though. She knew enough to know that the lower she dove the farther she'd have to climb again. A thermal caught her wings as she leveled out and she used that to help her rise back again. Amusement colored her bugle as she hurriedly turned on a wingtip and darted in the other direction, passing just below the persuing males. It was antics like that that would hinder the great bronze and the brown because their blue brothers could turn faster.

Akki could feel the dragonlust trying to take full control; her consciousness was almost being forced out of her body. It was such an odd feeling, even after the number of flights Ebbeth had participated in she still got slightly creeped out when she could feel her losing herself. “Anassa, do me a favour and forget the name Akkivahna.” She said, nearly begged, with the disgust obvious in her voice. She would never use that name if she could avoid it.
The bluerider rolled her eyes. Of course her brother would assume she was a greenrider. V’ian had to believe something to see it, and until he saw it he would assume the easiest answer available. It seemed like her brother had not changed very much. She didn’t say anything else though; she was concentrating on trying to keep her mind in her body for just a bit longer. She turned her eyes to the sky, keeping a close eye on her blue. She could never guess how flights would end. Last minute things always came into play and the dragon that was first suddenly found themselves last. It was all very interesting in her opinion.
If Ebbeth could have crooned and bugled loudly back to the green, he would have. But he was left with his jaws open, panting slipping through his mouth in place of sound. Ebbeth followed Priath as closely as he could manage, trying to see through her tricks and turns which was actually rather troublesome. When he would fold his wings close to his body and follow the dive, Priath would have flown back up higher again. He twisted his body so he was no longer facing down but upwards instead, opening his wings so he could pump them and follow the dark green dragon.
-----
“I don’t think any of us imagined it to go this way.” V’ian said with a loud laugh. He certainly didn’t expect this to happen. He pictured a wonderful sunset, with his sister and him running to each other on opposite sides of a field. It would end in a loving brother/ sister hug. V’ian lacked originality if you couldn’t tell, preferring the classics. This was nothing like the endearing scene he pictured. This was filled with wings, teeth, speed and competitions for one and another. Sure, they had sibling rivalry every now and then but it was never like this.
Waieth’s manners were starting to slip. A growl slipped out of his mouth as Ebbeth passed by him. The blues had the advantage here, everyone could tell. The bronze dragon was simply to large to be able to handle the quick maneuvers needed. He might have had more stamina, but he needed the speed also. He tried to follow the green but just got more frustrated as he watched himself fall behind. Unlike Ebbeth though, Waeith could voice his feelings. Sweet croons could be heard, what could be considered a desperate attempt to make up for the fact he was losing.

K'dan wasn't paying much mind to the conversation. His focus was in the sky as he looked upward. He heard the name Akkivahna, but he didn't put any thought behind it. Dragonlust was enveloping him, and he wasn't fighting it or dividing his focus from it. He wasn't eager to embrace it, but he did accept it.
Hydrath wanted to match the green move for move and prove himself to her. When she dove, he dove, but the sudden spring back up caught him off guard. Still he pumped his wings hard to spring right back up. She nimbly darted under the chasers, and Hydrath would follow her just as quickly. But where Hydrath had the advantage in speed and agility, so did Ebbeth. Hydrath had finally taken notice of the competition and a low growl was his response to the fact he could be matched by the older dragon. But he didn't allow his attention to linger. He bugled a bugle that showed his dedication and strong desire to catch the green and make her his.

Anassa smiled, a little strained, but still a smile. "I'll try Akki. It shouldn't be too hard becuse you'll always be Akki in my mind." She looked up at the flashes of color in the sky that were the dragons participating in the flight. She could feel her dragon's sudden burst of energy fading. Green flights never lasted as long as long as a gold's flight did. Her dragon had already extended a lot of energy with all of her twists and turns.
She dove one more time and tried to rise but she was just a bit too slow. She realized that one of the blues would catch her because they were closest to her.

Akki’s shoulders slumped slightly and it was clear that the bluerider was relieved that Anassa would forget her full name. Akkivahna had died when she left Derth behind. Akki was her now, no longer being scolded at for having fun. She was forever grateful that Dark Moon had given her a home, a permanent home. She followed Anassa’s line of sight, watching the flight carefully. The bigger dragons were falling behind now; bronzes were just too bulky to be able to follow the quick twists and turns.
Ebbeth could feel that the flight was ending, intuition perhaps. Green flights were shorter and this one seemed to have been going on long enough. It was time for a desperate final attempt. He was to close to Hydrath and needed to get away from the younger blue as quickly as possible. He furiously pumped his wings before pulling them close into his body, a free fall that would hopefully manage to get him ahead of Hydrath. Ebbeth was larger than Hydrath and now was the time to use that extra bulk to pull in front. He would not lose to a younger blue.
Waeith, on the other hand, had already lost. He had lost before he even managed to get into the sky. He was simply too large to be able to follow the quick maneuvers that Priath had pulled off during her flight. He had fallen behind rather quickly, the blues jetting forward as quickly as they could. His pumping wings were futile, he would not catch up. V’ian had a sympathy smile on his face, he knew that Waeith had wanted to win the flight.

"Oh no." Anassa whispered as Ebbeth pulled closer to Priath.
Priath could feel her energy ebbing. She had made a last ditch effort to climb higher so that when she was finally caught she and her mate would be able to glide and the flight had gone in the direction of the sea so the warm thermals could carry her and her mate more easily.
Ebbeth was the closest and Priath surrendered as she felt his tail twine about hers.
Back on the ground the little bit that was still Anassa was horrified. She and the others had moved towards the ground floor weyrs that were kept prepared for flights and she latched on to the nearest male rider. He hadn't won the flight but she was human enough to know that she did not want to spend the mating flight with Akki. That would just about ruin their friendship.
She dragged the nearest man into the weyr, not even knowing that it was Akki's brother V'ian. She had been told that riders could bed riders other than the rider of the dragon that one their dragon. That is what she, in the short moments before she was overtaken by Priath's dragon lust, managed to do.

“Shards.” Akki more or less hissed under her breath as she watched Ebbeth’s tail wrap around the greens. This was inevitable of course. Having a male dragon eventually meant that he would catch a female riders partner. She just never expected for it to be Anassa.
She cast a glance at Anassa, only to see the girl pull her brother away from the group. Akki nearly gagged. Anassa was about to get it on with her brother? This was far too much information for her to handle. She couldn’t dwell on it for to long though; quick actions had to be made before she completely lost herself to dragon lust. She turned, grabbed Q’sin by the top of his shirt and gasped, “Sorry. I’ll be borrowing you.”
She barely knew Q’sin but this was the best choice she figured. She would have chosen K’dan but the fact that Nike and he used to be together was disturbing to her. She would not be taking her sloppy seconds, oh no. She immediately pulled the bluerider towards the ground floor weyrs, steps behind Anassa.
----
He was going to go and give sympathy to his bronze when the dragon landed but instead felt a hand pull him along. V’ian stumbled for a moment before allowing himself to be towed towards the floor weyrs. “Normally I buy a girl dinner first.” He said with a slight grin. Not that he minded really. Anassa was a nice girl and a rather attractive one, so it’s not like he was going to complain. It was a slightly weird feeling, watching his sister pull some unknown man towards the weyrs also, but there wasn’t much he could do about it. A dragonriders life is what it is.
Plus he could sympathize with what was happening. Neither girl wanted to hurt their friendship with one and another – this seemed like the most ideal plan. He understood and was willing to go along with it even though he had the feeling that his sister was going to hit him later on for sleeping with her friend.

Chaovith had chased, but he had stepped out about a minute before Ebbeth caught the Annassa’s green, but, the bondeds of the entwined dragons were both female. Well that threw a spanner in the works. Q’sin found himself bemused, despite the broiling emotions in the pit of his stomach. They would fade away soon enough.
But, as he was about to make his way out. Annassa grabbed the bronze rider. Beginning to drag him towards the lower weyrs. But this left Akki – and with little hesitation grabbed the top of his shirt. Q’sin’s immediate reaction was to draw back, tense up. ”Sorry. I’ll be borrowing you” following this she began to drag him off.
Go on mine, it might do you some good the blue chortled. Q’sin cursed his dragon inwardly and said little as he was proceeded to be dragged off towards another lower weyr, by Akki. A fellow blue rider. He cursed a few more times. But he didn’t really have a choice, and it might be kind of nice to… well.
