Ooc|| Because, hey, the weyrlings need a non-flooded place to sleep
Z'ayr peered into the room, greeted by the site of makeshift cots and sleeping dragonets. He sighed with content, and relaxed slightly as he entered the room. It had taken a few minutes to find out where the temporary weyrling barracks and his arms were getting sore. He looked down, K'ris was still cradled in his arms perfectly asleep. The boy wasn't heavy at all, he was quite small compared to Z'ayr actually however Z'ayr wasn't exactly the most muscular guy around. His upper body strength was lacking slightly. As fun as it was to cart a boy around all night, his arms were looking forward to putting the boy down.
He walked over to where K'ris' dragonet soundly slept and bent over slightly. How did one go about putting someone down as gently as possible without waking them up? Z'ayr chewed the inside of his lip, feeling vaguely awkward as he continued to make small movements as to figure out how to put down K'ris. "This isn't working so well. Dinayth, give me some advice here!" I'm going to sleep, my advice is you put him down soon so you can sleep also. Don't mess up his hair though when you do it. And keep your hands to yourself. The pale blue replied before promptly dozing off.
Z'ayr sighed, Dinayth was no help at all. Of course he knew he had to keep his hands off...which was unfortunate in his opinion, this was really an ideal situation but he had morales. He once again shuffled around the cot, trying to place K'ris beside his dragonet. He straightened, staring at K'ris before a burst of awkward giggles spilled out of his mouth non-stop. 'This is so awkward' Was all he could think.

As a tribute to just how exhausted the poor boy was, K'ris barely stirred while he was carried through the weyr and towards the temporary barracks. In fact the only time he made some sort of movement of his own was when Dinayth gave his rider that last comment. Queroth did stir though, opening his eyes and looking up to to Z'ayr as he tried a few more times to put K'ris down. The hawk's eye tilted his head, but by the comments from Z'ayr and his clutchsibling's comment, along with his own rider's predicament, it wasn't hard for him to figure out what had happened.
Mine is very very tired, he said to Dinayth. If Yours is trying to put him down, I do not think he should worry about waking him up. Queroth nudged a bit over in the spot he was sleeping and lifted one of his wings, so that when the other boy put His down it wouldn't be directly on top of it.
- - -
After all the rush rush rush he'd been made to do back at Aybara, they'd ended up having to wait through a storm at his hold before the Searchrider even thought it would be safe to take off. Then as soon as he got here, not only was the hatching already over, but the rider pointed him in the direction of some sort of 'temporary' barracks and made his own way to the feasthall. (Vaelryn had rejected the offer for food, as he'd eaten back at his home before leaving) Now it was all seeming to be a big waste of time, and he was half hoping he hadn't even been searched.
Really though, he was just in a bad mood. It wasn't even that he'd missed the hatching that was bothering him. To be honest, it was probably that once they'd arrived near the Weyr the pair on the dragon had been completely drenched within seconds. So now he was walking down the hall positively dripping wet. Even his back of possessions was wet. On top of that, he had no idea where he was supposed to go other than 'down that hallway there.'
At one point he did finally start to hear some noise - laughter? - and he moved towards it. Supposedly there was a candidate and weyrling barracks in here...but either way, someone would tell him where he was supposed to go if he ended up in the wrong place. Vaelryn stepped around the door frame, knocking on the edge of it once, and then taking a few steps inside the room. "Hullo?" he asked, stopping then and blinking at the sight before him. One boy holding another boy - very much sleeping - and laughing about something. "Ah..." he quirked an eyebrow, glancing about the room quickly and noticing a few sleeping dragonets. "I'm going te take a guess an say this isn't the candidates barracks?"

Dinayth lazily opened one eye, his mental voice thick with sleep Mine, Queroth says that if you put the boy down it will be fine. He says that his mine is very tired and will not likely wake up Z'ayr grinned and thanked Queroth for the tidbit of information. His arms were very tired now, and he felt bad for having everyone see him carry K'ris around. He knew most people probably figured out that he wasn't into girls, and he didn't want K'ris' reputation to be destroyed because of this. He gently placed K'ris where Queroth's wing was only seconds before, making sure not to disturb the boy (Or mess up his hair). He took a step back to admire his handiwork and stretched his arms over his head with a grin. He was proud that he managed to put K'ris down without even dropping him once.
Z'ayr had not heard the newcomer at all, he was too busy concentrating on the task that was before him. But now with K'ris down, he paid full attention to the words that rose up behind me. "It's not what it looks like!" He yelped, throwing his arms up into the air as he spun around to face the newcomer. However, his balance was off and he wound up tripping on his own feet which sent him spiralling onto his back where he neatly cracked his head against the ground. "Shards! Ow!" He whined, reaching to touch the back of his head where he knew a bump would form. He looked back up at Vaelryn, eyes wide "I was just putting him to bed! He passed out on me and I swear I wasn't taking advantage of him or anything!"
A whimper slipped out of his mouth, "Ow, that really hurt too." He sat up, staring at the boy with one eye closed. He looked him up and down and came to the conclusion that he had never seen him before. "Do I know you?" Z'ayr asked with a sniff as he opened his other eye. "Also, did you know you're soaking wet? Because, well, you are."
I think you're embarassing yourself now. Shocker. The pale blue informed his mine. He was newly hatched but he already had a prissy attitude.

[I'm still trying out Vaelryn's 'slight accent' thing. Not sure if it's gonna work in the longrun, but it just seems to fit him xD And I figure if Araby is such a different 'world' like described, they might have an accent.]
K'ris did not in fact wake up at all when Z'ayr put him down near Queroth. The Hawk's Eye dragon let his wing back down over his bonded and then rested his head on the floor once more. The only shifting K'ris did - even while Z'ayr was shouting - was to turn a bit onto his back and rest his head on Queroth's neck. Usually sounds would wake the boy up quite easily, so the fact that he was sleeping through Z'ayr's comment was quite the testiment to how tired he'd been.
[And that's it for K'ris for the night xD Sleepy boy.]
Vaelryn took a step back towards the doorway at the other boy's outburst, his expression going from miffed to confused in the same time it took Z'ayr to fall backwards and land on the ground in front of him. He flinched when the other boy hit his head against the ground. Then with the next comment he looked over to the other boy that this one had just put down near the dragonet. "Takin' advantage?" he repeated, quirking an eyebrow at the fact that the other one had slept through that, and then looking back down at the loud one. "That's a funny way of puttin' it." He blinked when he realized what the other boy must have meant, then laughed shortly and shook his head. "Ah, no worries. I could see yer intentions were fine. He's out like the moon."
Well, if nothing else, this predicament was improving his mood a little. While Z'ayr spoke again he moved to rest his bag on the floor near his feet, looking back up at the questions. "Not unless ye'v ever been te Araby," he replied, and nodded to the bag on the floor. "I'm a Candidate as of earlier this morn', the storm jest kept us from gettin here 'til now."
Vaelryn quirked an eyebrow at the last question and gave a small laugh again. He set down on his knees into a crouch so that he wasn't quite so far away from Z'ayr, and he rested his arms on he knees. "Oh, aye," he said. "Did ye know it was rainin like a waterfall out there?" The boy offered a smile. "I'm Vaelryn, by the way."
[Hm...I might just stick to 'ye', 'te', 'aye', and his funny phrases....what do you think? Is something too much or too little? D: *doesn't know because this is Pern*]

Z'ayr cast a look towards K'ris and sighed with relief. He was worried that his outburst might have waken the boy, but apparently not. This also meant that K'ris probably wasn't going to wake up any time soon, the poor kid was most definitely tuckered out. He rubbed his nose for a second before gingerly touching the back of his head, yes there would most definitely be a bruise there tomorrow. As long as there was no blood, he was happy. Blood stained clothes and ruined your hair, it was atrocious in his opinion.
"I had to clarify before you made assumptions." Z'ayr explained with a sniffle. He could relax now that he knew Vaelryn was going to jump to conclusions before wondering for a second how K'ris would react if gay rumours around him and Z'ayr surfaced. A giggle slipped out of his mouth at the thought. "Isn't he though? I could have totally dropped him and he probably wouldn't wake up." Z'ayr said with a snort. "Not that I would drop him though. I like to think I'm a better friend than that, you know?" He surveyed the boy's bag, containing all his worldly possesions no doubt. "Araby? Never been there. Guess I don't know you then." He said with a small frown as he tried to picture the place but he wasn't able too. "Is this where I shout 'Stranger Danger' loudly?" Z'ayr asked curiously.
The exclamation of 'Stranger Danger' was no longer needed as the newcomer explained why he was here. "Sucks that you were held back because of the storm." Z'ayr replied with sympathy. He'd probably be rather ticked if that happened to him. He grinned back, "I'm Z'ayr, nice to meet you. And I feel your pain, I was caught out there before but I was able to change into something a little less wet."
Z'ayr leaned in slightly, a hard thing to do when your legs were crossed he realized and confessed to Vaelryn in a staged whisper. "I hate the rain. It makes your hair look bad and your clothes look funny. I don't know whoever said rain is romantic, because they are wrong."
Ooc|| I like his accent haha

Vaelryn smiled in a 'well there you go' way when the boy mentioned he'd never been to Araby. He blinked at the next question, and laughed a bit while shaking his head. As for the next comments, he shrugged. "Doesn't bother me too much that I had te wait te leave," he admitted, and he tilted back on his heels to let himself into a full sit on the floor, crossing his own legs indian style as well. "They were kind of rushin me into packin and everything, if it wasn't fer the storm holdin us back I wouldn't have been able te really say a proper g'bye to anyone. Me father was already choked up about me leavin as it was.
"Don' get me wrong, he was as proud as ever when I was searched, he was just bankin' on me followin his footsteps and movin all the way up te Master Vintyr when I was grown." As he spoke about moving up he lifted his hand along with the words, and once he was done speaking he let the hand fall onto his hair to press out some of the water, flicking his hand afterwards to get some of it off. "Ach, it's jest hair. This mop of mine does whatever it feels like doin anyway."

Z'ayr chewed on the corner of his thumb, a bad habit that he apparently could not give up. "Oh, were we supposed to say goodbye?" He asked, dropping his hand away from his mouth as he blinked. He sort of gave a wave to his parents and brother and that was it. He was more concentrating on what cute boys Dark Moon would have, he had priorities afterall right? "Father tears are among the worst." Z'ayr decided out loud. "I mean, maybe it was just my mother who did this, but mothers seem to cry alot. Not so much fathers so when you see them cry it's sort of a blow. Like 'Oh gosh, he's actually human!' moment." He couldn't remember if he had ever seen his father cry at the moment. He thought he was going to when Z'ayr came out but instead he was relieved. It wasn't exactly the reaction Z'ayr was expecting, that was for sure.
"Master Vintyr? Does this mean you know how to make all sorts of wine and such?" Z'ayr asked, genuinely curious. He had never met a vintyr before, he was begining to think they were made up actually. Z'ayr flinched backwards as Vaelryn flicked water everywhere, "Oi! Watch out! You'll get it on me. Do you know how bad I look when wet? I look like I've completely drowned and nobody pulled me out of the lake till turns after!"

Vaelryn gave a chuckle at Z'ayr's comment about the tidbit he'd given about his father. "Well, he didn't quite cry." The boy nodded in reply to the next question. "Aye, that it does. Me father is the Master Vintyr in charge of the hall at Araby." Here the boy nodded towards the bag he'd put gently on the floor. "One of the things he seemed awful lit up about, he sent me with a special bottle he says he's been 'savin fer the right occasion'. Wants me te give it te the Weyrwoman here when I get the chance, as a gift from him and the rest of the Hall."
Vaelryn blinked at the sudden flinch from the water, but smiled in amusement afterwards. "That bad? Well, I've never heard of someone who rots away instantly on contact withe water!" He gave a short laugh. "Coulda fooled me; ye certainly don' look like someone who never bathes."

"I won't lie to you Vaelryn, I didn't think you guys existed. I thought you were a myth or something." Z'ayr said as he absent-mindedly scratched at his chin. If he had never seen something, it didn't exist. That was his logic, however flawed it was (And it was really quite flawed). "Saving for the right occasion? I have to wonder what the occasion would have been if you had not been searched." He tried to imagine one, but came up with nothing. "Maybe if you got pregnant. That seems like a special, and extremely weird, occasion." He said simply with a shrug. Z'ayr hadn't really talked to the Weyrwoman, other then the usual formal greetings but he had heard quite a bit about her. "I'm sure she will love it and make your her favourite candidate." He decided, bobbing his head up and down.
Poor Vaelryn, no doubt. The boy was looking for the candidate barracks and was now stuck talking to this chatty boy. "Oh, bath water doesn't count. I'm immune to bath water, but no rain water." He ran his fingers through his hair, sniffing and looking at Vaelryn. "I couldn't go around not bathing. How would I attract anybody like that? I couldn't! Can't have that now."

Vaelryn smiled once more and nodded. "Ye know, yer right. Most times we vintyr's just stick te the vineyards and winerys; even in Araby there are never many of us out of the hall that often." He thought for a moment. "Ye know, I'm not sure I've ever heard of a vintyr bein searched for candidacy. I'm sure it must'v happened before at some point, but it's not somethin ye often hear about."
He blinked as the boy commented about the wine bottle, a bit surprised by the conclusion, but a moment later he was laughing wholeheartedly at the comment. "Aye, that would be quite the occasion! I'm not certain me father would have a wine fittin fer somethin as that." He rose his eyebrows at the rest of what Z'ayr had said, in regards to the water and bathing. "Well ye never know, really," he said. "Someone might jest find the drowned look quite fetchin"

Z'ayr grinned foolishly, "That makes loads more sense then." He had never met a vintyr before and simply had to know why it never happened before. The idea that they were simply to busy worked well enough for him. "I think you should do some research and find out." He said with an encouraging nod. He picked off some imaginary lint off of his clothes, he had to keep his appearance looking nice afterall, "Who knows, you could be the first. You could go down in history. If you do though, you have to mention me. I want to be famous also." He was babbling, but that was okay with him since it made conversation in the long run.
He twisted his hair around his finger, shrugged and laughed along with Vaelryn. "I can't blame him. It's one of those things you don't expect your son to say I suppose." The boy scoffed, "I bet you ten marks you would never find me attractive if you saw me swim. I look horrendous and not only that! But I don't swim gracefully, I thrash."

"If they all had fathers like mine, they prob'ly never even knew there was a search in their hold." He thought back to the previous day. He'd been about to head out to work in the vineyards when another of the older vintyrs had come into the main building to talk to his father. The man had mentioned that there was a searchrider who'd just touched town, and then they'd gone on with their conversation. "If I hadn't asked him if I should go out and stand at the search, I don't think he'd have even have given it a second thought," Vaelryn said to Z'ayr, and then shrugged it off. "I never expected te be searched anyway."
The boy smiled a bit at Z'ayr's next comments. "Ye know, many people would say that an important part of relationship is being happy te see a person in their best and worst moments." He was fairly sure he'd heard that from his mother at one point. He shrugged, and then thought on it for a moment, and nodded. "All right, though." He held his hand out to the other boy with the sort of smile that one gets when going into a dare or a bed. "Yer on. We'll jest have te figure out when we'll be goin' swimmin to see who's got the marks."

Sh'no came back, walking into the makeshift barracks. He sighed and sat down where his bags were, looking around at all of the other weyrling riders. He felt nervous. He didn't really have that many friends here at the weyr, since it had only been one turn before the hatching that he had arrived. To be frank he was surprised that he was even able to impress so soon, and that he actually impressed for once. Down in the Southern weyr, he was there for about 5 turns, and yet he did not impress once.
He sighed and looked around, Belyth sleeping nearby peacefully. Maybe Belyth had just a little bit too much to eat... He didn't know if this was good or not, since Belyth would be the closest to him, and he wasn't sure if he would get any friends while at the weyr... That was yet to be seen.

"Did he think that you didn't want to go? Or did he not want to lose his son?" Z'ayr asked, he was rather interested in the boys story now. He thought back to when he was searched, was it his father that told him about the searchdragon coming? No, it was something that everyone knew and went to see. He didn't think his father minded that he went, there was nothing for Z'ayr at the Hold. The boys there weren't interested in him, they had seen him go through the awkward stages of life and that wasn't very pretty. "I wonder if Dinayth will end up being a searchdragon. I think that would be interesting." He thought out loud. Blues weren't as common for searches, mostly green took part in them, but some blues did it also.
Z'ayr laughed loudly, "Ha! If they saw me at my worst moments, they would not want a relationship. For example, me completely falling a few minutes ago was a bad moment. We both can agree that it was unattractive and I do not look good when falling." Did many people look good falling? He grasped Vaelryn's hand and shook it. "I'll feel bad when I take your marks from you. Well actually, I won't feel all that bad." He said with a snigger.
A loud "Ack." slipped out of his mouth as Sh'no came into the makeshift barracks, and he doved (Or at least attempted too, it was hard to dive when you were sitting cross-legged) out of the way so he wouldn't be trampled on. Maybe sitting at the entrance wasn't the best idea? He rubbed his eye as he stared at Sh'no. He didn't know much about the boy, actually he didn't know much about some of the other Weyrlings. "Did I congratulate you on your brown?" He asked Sh'no, not exactly remembering.

Vaelryn gave a laugh at Z'ayrs question and shook his head. "Neither. He never even thought of it, ye see. Neither of us ever really did. I was pretty set on growin up te be the next master vintyr at the craft hall." He shrugged. "But ye see, when someone came in te work fer the day, they told us there was a searchdragon lookin fer any eligable kids. I truly never expected te be searched, but here I am."
"Maybe not the most attractive moment," Vaelryn said, "But it certainly was a funny one." He nodded to the comment about the marks. "Aye, we'll have te find time between training and chores te head out te the la--" That was about the moment when the other boy came into the barracks, and considering Vaelryn was sitting directly in the doorway (yeah, probably not the best place to sit at all) he had his shoulder knocked forward. "Well that was about as graceful as a newborn runner," Vaelryn commented, rubbing the back of his head a bit where he'd gotten hit with a knee or something. "I would've moved if you'd jest asked." He was a bit grateful that it'd been him, though, and not the wine bottle.

Sh'no didn't have time to react before he slid to a stop, almost walking straight into the two people. He sighed. "Sorry about that." He said rubbing the back of his head. "Wasn't expecting people to be sitting in the middle of a passageway. Oh well... The name's Sh'no." He greeted politely. He tried to be as courteous as he could with others to avoid insult or angering them.
"No, I don't think so. Not many have." He replied to Z'ayr's question. Belyth followed in afterwards, looking around before going directly to where Sh'no had set his bags down at, curling up and watching Sh'no with bright green eyes. "His name's Belyth." He added as he watched his the dragonet lay there, watching him.

"Was there alot of people seeing if they were eligible?" Z'ayr wondered out loud. Vaelryn had caught his attention, and he hoped that the newcomer didn't mind that he was being drilled with questions. Z'ayr was a curious person; he couldn't help it. He wanted to know more. Plus there was the fact that he didn't have very many guy friends, his flamboyant personality tend to frighten off some of them. He couldn't help that though. He tilted his head to the side, and closed one eye as he look at Vaelryn's face. "Do you regret being searched? I mean - if you were all set to be the next master vintyr, did it sort of bum you out that you are now here?" He had nothing going on for him back at home, not even a cute boy to keep an eye out for so he really did not regret coming to Dark Moon.
Z'ayr scoffed, "You have seen me in my darkest hour. I hope that you remember none of this tomorrow so we can be introduced in a much more normal way. With handshakes and everything before I fall down.". Z'ayr winked at Sh'no, "Our fault really. Guess we should have seen someone walking in, I mean this is an entrance afterall." Z'ayr surveyed Belyth as the dragonet came into the room and curled up. "Nice to meet you Belyth. Please treat Dinayth well even though he is annoying." He requested happily, hoping that perhaps his blue wouldn't get picked on because of his prissy attitude. I mean, someone was going to get fed up eventually right? "And congratulations Sh'no." He added with a grin.

Vaelryn offered a disarming smile and shook his head. "Nah, it's allright there. Z'ayr's right, we shouldn't really be sittin right in the doorway anyway." He looked over to the bluerider at the comments, and then back to the boy who'd just come in. "Oh, yeah, I've jest arrived here now, but congratulations te ye on the impression. Te all of ye, fer that matter."
Z'ayr spoke up again then, and Vaelryn looked over, scooting across the floor a little to sit against the wall next to the door instead; he brought his bag over with him as well. He thought for a moment before replying. "I did at first, when they told me I had to pack my bags and leave right off with barely any time to say good bye." He shook his head. "But not after I thought about it. Really - bein searched is quite the honor, isn't it? I realized I was bein a bit selfish, bein angry about bein searched? Once I thought about how many others out in Pern who would've loved te be in my situation?" He shrugged, then smiled. "Well, I'm certainly grateful te be here, that's fer certain."
He grinned a bit at the rest of Z'ayrs comments and shook his head. "Nothin wrong with yer first impression, Z'ayr. It was a bit unorthodox, I'll give ye that, but not in a bad way. Ye made me laugh, after all. And after bein through the storm outside jest to get put in the basement for the night? That's certainly a good thing." He smiled again and gave the bluerider the thumbs up. "Ye've certainly made a friend of me, Z'ayr." And then, with a questioning look, "Mayhaps I can say the same fer myself?"

"Thanks." Z'ayr said with a slight blush. Odd, he hadn't blushed when the others congratulated him. He shrugged it off though, silently claiming that it was because Vaelryn was new and that it felt slightly embarrasing to have someone new congratulate him. Sure, that was it. "At least we all know now not to make a habit of sitting in doorways, right?" Z'ayr asked weakly with a grin. Mind you, he'd probably forget in a few more days and end up sitting in a doorway in some serious deep thoughts.
"I guess it is an honor." Z'ayr said sheepishly. He never really thought about it before. Perhaps he was all taking this for granted? That wasn't good. He didn't want to take things for granted. He wanted to appreciate and be thankful for everything that he had going for him. He made a silent vow to start doing that from now on. "Not having enough time to say goodbye would be the worst." He said in agreement. Especially if the person was the type to have hearty and long goodbyes. In a way, it was sort of being cut off from your family for who knows how long - especially if they didn't show up at the hatching you were at.
Z'ayr stayed quiet for a few moments, pretending to debate whether or not he should make Vaelryn a friend. He heaved a huge sigh, have it look like he was making a huge sacrifice. "Fiiiiine. I guuuuess we can be friends." Z'ayr deadpanned before grinning at Vaelryn happily. It was nice to know some more candidates. Plus, maybe he could introduce Tanwen to Vaelryn. He liked to think that the girl needed more guy friends in her life. "You should feel special Vael." Z'ayr said, shortening the boys name. "I have no intentions of smacking my head on the ground as a greeting to anyone else. So you're the only one."

[I'm not sure how long this post is gonna be, I feel like this rp is winding down, since...you know...all other rp's are 'next day' or 'two days from now' and stuff xD]
Vaelryn smiled at Z'ayr's reaction, even through the part where he made it seem like it was such a difficult thing to do, to be his friend. "Glad te hear it," he smiled in return. And then after he spoke up again, Vaelryn grinned. "Well I'm honored then, te be certain. Such a special greetin will be in my memories ferever." He looked over to where he'd set his bag and grabbed hold of the strap. "I should really be gettin te bed though. I don't suppose ye've any idea which way the temporary candidate barracks are?"
