Standing there in the courtyard outside of the candidate's barracks, Tanwen stared up at the walls quietly. There was a rucksack sitting by her feet, and her arms were crossed loosely over her chest as she inspected her would-be new home. It seemed strange, looking up at the structure, that not very long ago at all she'd still been at the Hold she'd grown up in. For a moment she thought that she should miss her home more, or at least expect to miss it in the future, but she didn't think that would be the case. She'd miss her parents to be sure, but not the place.
Tanwen stood there for a moment longer before bending down and picking up her rucksack. She slung it over her shoulder and started for the entrance of the Candidates Barracks, giving a subtle nod to herself as she did so. Yes, she would like living here. The best thing of all was that it meant she'd no longer have to work with molten glass. She didn't particularly dislike the craft that she'd grown up with, but it definitely hadn't been her life's calling.
Stepping into the hallway she paused for a moment and looked around before deciding on a direction. The Searchrider who'd left her there had given her a general way of finding the girl's barracks, but the directions hadn't been the best. At least it shouldn't be too hard; and anyway, there were bound to be candidates mulling around, or someone else, who she could pull directions from.
All that mattered was that she find the barracks, and get into the bath. I can't wait to be rid of this soot for good. she thought, lifting a hand to tug at a lock of hair that had fallen in front of her eyes. There was soot smudged over her face and arms as well, and the scent of fire clung to her in a way that she thought might very well never disappear. With luck, though, she'd impress at a hatching. With luck.

Why, there's no better place to find a woman then where the woman reside: In the Female's Candidate Barracks! Leander felt gleeful enough that he had the intelligence to discover this fact. He strolled down the hall, keeping his hands behind his back all innocent-like. Perhaps if he were lucky then he'd wind up finding himself in a date situation. He could hear footsteps, which broke him out of his unrealistic daydream. Coming toward him further down the hall was exactly what he'd been looking for: A girl. I didn't think one would be that hard to find but still, this is just my luck, he thought cockily. He strolled right on up to her, the entrance to the barracks off to his right. "Hello there!" he called out in his per usual way of greeting: Loud. "This is convenient is it not?" he added once he was in a better talking range. He stood in front of her, possibly blocking her path, though unintentional. "What's a pretty woman such as yourself doing out here all alone? Perhaps you'd like some company? I can tell you honestly, I know how to make it worth your while." He went all out, even throwing in a wink of his eye. He pushed his bangs back, uncovering his other eye, revealing that he was, in fact, bi-eye. Next he'd go for introductions, those were always needed. He hated to not be able to put a name to a face; it was so discouraging when you wanted to bring the person up in conversation when relating personal experiences.
It was more then likely that she’d slap him away, tell him off, or simply walk past as if he didn't exist at all. He couldn't keep himself from trying though, not when there could be so much to gain from his success! He'd flirted with a lot of girl's so far and so far not gotten very many prospects on his growing list. He figured that she probably had things to do, but maybe she'd like some help doing them? He wasn't completely useless; he could do good work when prompted to. As long as she'd give him her company in return then he'd do just about anything, no matter how strenuous. He’d done his Candidate chores, reluctantly, since he hadn’t gotten a lot of time to party it up. Now he was keeping out of sight of the Candidate Master so that he could have some free-time to do whatever he pleased.

Tanwen paused abruptly in her stride when someone called out ahead of her, and looked up to see a boy in the hall. It was strange, a little, considering she'd been told this was the female candidate barracks. As he started speaking once more she continued walking towards him, pretty sure that he was standing in the entryway she was supposed to take. The girl shouldered her rucksack a bit more, her expression staying level, though she did quirk an eyebrow lightly when he called it convenient.
Then she was standing just in front of him, and couldn't go any further due to where he was standing. Holding the string at the top of her rucksack, she crossed her arms loosely as he continued his speel about pretty woman being alone. Her rose slightly when he promised to 'make it worth her while', and she blinked slowly when he pushed his hair back; she would admit, to herself, that he had quite a pair of eyes, but the rest of his words to her had left her with one thought of the boy.
"Wow," she said. "I haven't been in the Weyr for all of three minutes, and already someone's trying to get into my pants." The words were given with a mild eye roll, and she nodded towards the doorway he was standing in front of. "I think you're standing in my way. That's the way to the girl's barracks, right?"

Zuhayr happened to be walking around the same time Tanwen was nearing the candidate barracks, he was having a grand old adventure doing a chore or two around the Weyr. Well, as grand of an adventure one could have when it came down to doing chores. He was just heading back to his room too when the corner of his eye noticed Tanwen walking around. He was slightly curious too, considering he hadn’t seen her around so far. He was debating whether to go over there or not, but as soon as Leander appeared he knew he had to go over there now. He was intrigued to see why Leander was coming out of the girl’s barracks, and the fact that Leander was a rather cute guy helped too.
He sidled up beside Tanwen and crooked his eyebrow as he looked at Leander. “Right you are, new girl. That would be the girl’s barracks.” He said with a nod or two before lowering his voice to a near whisper. “Think he has something to tell us? A secret, maybe?” He remembered Leander from the candidate lessons and noticed that the boy seemed quite friendly and was able to take things in a stride. Definitely a plus. You couldn’t hold an interesting conversation without a few banters here and there.
He looked at Tanwen and frowned slightly. “Whups, darling, don’t you know you got a little somethin’ somethin’ on your face? Want me to get it for you?”

"Accusations, in my presence?" Leander put a hand to his heart, faking a wince. "Ouch.” He then addressed her claims. “Me, wanting in your pants? I mean, I wouldn't say no if you offered but the most I'd do here and now is check the size of your undergarment's. I hear a girl can never have enough so therefore I believe it'd be a heart-warming gift. Is there a one size fits all? I wouldn’t know myself, not that I go commando but…" He tilted his head to the side a bit, considering this point. Zuhayr's appearance was somewhat alarming since he hadn’t expected the boy to be there. Now to any other person Zuhayr's way of speech and mannerism's would also be a bit questionable, but Leander had an eye for the unusual.
"Do I have something to tell?” His smirk obviously meant that he wasn’t taking the situation very seriously. “Most of what I do is pretty secret, so I’d have a pretty long list if you both have time to hear it?” He looked from Tanwen to Zuhayr, thinking they made a fine little trio. “As for secret’s pertaining to the girl’s barracks, the air in there is far more breathable and the scents are down right…” he trailed off, closing his eyes over. “Marvellous, that’s the word,” he said once having re-opened his eyes. Leander regarded Tanwen, looking her up and down. “You do, as the boy says, have dirt on your face there, I wonder how that’ll affect the smell in the girl’s barracks. Not to worry though,” he told her seriously, “I like them dirty.” He’d reached out and put his hand on her shoulder, hoping it’d emphasize his point. He was pretty sure she got it, any one with half a brain would, and he was going to bet at least a mark or two that she had plenty of brains in that head of hers. “Your hair! Like the color of a fresh fruit, it’s vibrant! I wonder how it feels.” He extended his other hand out to touch her hair, not thinking on getting any objections.

Tanwen looked over to the other boy as he walked up, inclining her eyebrows again at the sight of yet another boy in the apparent female barracks. "I think if he does," she said. "He can keep them to himself." When he pointed out the soot on her face, she added a somewhat surprised look to her expression. "Really? Something on my face? I can't imagine how that would've happened, I've only been working with fire and soot all day." The girl shook her head in reply to the question on helping her get it off, turning back to Leander when he started speaking again.
She quirked an eyebrow when the boy went on about girl's undergarments, wondering if he realized the reaction he'd likely get to a gift like that. Tanwen simply eyed the boy when he went on about the scent of the girl's barracks, rolling her eyes when he commented on the soot all over her as well. "Yes, I'm aware that I'm covered in soot. You're both so observant." His next comment pulled an interesting expression from her face. One of her eyebrows rose, and she stared at him for a moment, shifting her gaze over to his hand as it fell on her shoulder. She looked at it rather like she'd no idea what to make of it, as if it weren't something she was normally confronted with dealing with. She looked back up when he spoke again, and stepped backwards quickly when he made a reach for her hair, almost like someone dodging a physical blow.
"Grimy, I'd imagine," she replied matter-of-factly. "I'm covered in soot." After the comment she sidestepped the boy in front of her and started towards the doorway that he'd been previously blocking.

Leander was oblivious to any discomfort she felt, and even her facial expression's slipped his notice. He chalked it all up to her either possibly being tired, or maybe having had a bad trip getting here. "Oh, but grimy is good!" he told her, turning around to follow her in to the barracks. He walked right in, as if he belonged there, continuing to talk to her. "It can leave you feeling like a man for a day, not that you'd want to feel like a man but it'd definitely be a change from the constant womanly feel, no?" Leander looked to Zuhayr to see what his belief on this subject might be. It'd most certainly be interesting to hear. He had a feeling that he'd get along quite well with both this boy, his uniqueness made him both comical and a tease.
"Isn't it great? We're all here for the same thing. To try impression at a dragon, a huge fire spewing species that saves our lives each time Thread falls." He paused, looking from Tanwen to Zuhayr to see if they'd chime in. "Personally me I want to be a part of that, not the fire spewing thing-I'm pretty sure that'd give me a stomach ache-but the whole impressing a dragon thing to be another contributor to fighting off Thread." He loved being a Harper, after all it had been a dream of his since he was a child but he couldn’t decide which was more important: Harping or being a Dragonrider. “Currently I’m a Journeyman Harper,” he said to the both of them, letting them know what was going through his mind, even if they didn’t care to listen. “So I’m having a bit of trouble figuring out which ambition is more important… Dragons are pretty after all! Yet, so are gitar’s, see where the problem is?”

Ooc|| Haha, at least we know that Zuhayr won’t be after any of the girls
Zuhayr rolled his eyes with a grin. “Darling, of course I have the time to listen to your secrets. As long as they’re juicy ones though. If they’re just boring then I’m afraid I’ll have to turn you down.”. Zuhayr let his hand flutter over his chest for a minute with a mock expression of hurt, “Are you saying that the guys smell bad? I take offense to that. I like to think I smell good.” He looked at Tanwen with wide eyes, as if his heart could be broken by her very answer. “I don’t smell bad…do I?”. He took a step back as Leander was bold enough to reach over and try to touch Tanwen’s hair. If Leander was about to get his hand slapped away, Zuhayr did not want the girl to miss and accidentally hit him instead.
Zuhayr waved his hand a few times in a shooing motion and made a ‘Fuuu’ kind of sound that escaped from his lips. “Now, now. I was just telling you just in case you didn’t know. I didn’t need sarcasm thrown at me.” He frowned slightly, he really wanted to wipe the dirt off of her face, even if in a weird way it seemed to suit her personality if that made any sense. He nodded absent mindedly, “Yeah, you’ll probably want to wash your hair. You smell vaguely like fire though. I kind of like it.”. Zuhayr grimaced, “That didn’t make me sound like a pervert, did it? What a bad first impression I must be making.” He grinned slightly, “Whups. We’re losing our audience it seems.”. He followed after Tanwen and Leander with bright eyes, rather amused by this whole conversation. He wouldn’t be causing any shenanigans in the girl’s barracks, that was for sure at least.
Zuhayr spent a few seconds pondering Leander’s statement before shrugging. “I’m going to assume that a girl would want to feel like a girl, but to each her own I guess.” He said with a nod. “Or is this one of those hidden questions? Did you want to feel like a woman?” He asked Leander with a smile and a crooked eyebrow. He listened to Leander’s ramble and nodded his head in sympathy. “Ah yes, I see your problem sweetie. But can gitars protect you if you’re in trouble? I mean, sure, you can swing them. But chances are it will break. I say do a combination. Have a gitar playing dragon.” He replied, as if he had solved the biggest calamity that there ever was. He looked at Tanwen, “What about you, new girl? Are you anything currently?”. It was easy to tell by the soot on her face that she was something just a bit ago, but it was more fun to hear about it from the person’s lips in his opinion.

Tanwen didn't even turn to Zuhayr when he asked if he smelled bad, giving a curt reply, "I can't smell anything but soot." She continued on her way after that, simply glancing over to Leander when he made the comment about feeling like a guy, and rolling her eyes when she turned to look ahead of her once more. To the other comments from Zuhayr she said, "Wow, the residents here sure seem to enjoy stating the obvious."
When they started following after her, she'd quirked an eyebrow yet again. "Following me into the girl's barracks?" she looked ahead of her once more. "I'll make a note to get an extra lock installed on my door. I can't imagine waking up and seeing either of your faces that early in the morning." Tanwen was mostly quiet during their discussion about which would be better, gitar playing or dragon riding. To her the answer was obvious, but she wasn't about to encourage their following her by answering. Honestly, if she'd known that finding someone to ask directions of was going to be this annoying, she would have simply just tried to avoid everyone she saw. Not that it would have done any good, she thought bitterly. The two boys had practically materialized out of thin air.
When Zuhayr posed another question to her, she replied without turning towards them, by now scanning the hallway again for the entrance to the sleeping quarters of the girl's barracks. The way she walked suggested she knew exactly where she was going, but the truth was she was just wandering and hoping to come upon it at some point. "Glasscraft apprentice," she said simply, squinting an eye lightly at the title she'd been given. "And my name is Tanwen, actually."

Leander confronted Zuhayr’s question immediately, smirking the entire time. “I don’t think wanting to feel like a woman and wanting to feel a woman are the same thing but that’s the closest comparison that I can make,” he replied, his smirk quite devilish indeed. He was sure that by now Tanwen had taken just about all of him that she could take. At this point most people were giving him the boot. He then considered Zuhayr’s option with a comical stroke of the chin, “Nope, a gitar playing dragon just isn’t doing it for me. Dragonriding it is I suppose, you do make a fine point about keeping out of harm’s way.” He frowned, not able to say that Tanwen’s comment didn’t hurt about not being able to see his face so early in the morning. “Well, I guess you and I aren’t going to be making it past second base anytime soon,” he jested. He listened to Tanwen’s response to Zuhayr’s question, and was surprised at hearing that she was a Glasscraft Apprentice. That took skill, most certainly. “You say your name is Tanwen? Well, it’s nice to meet you. You can call me Leander… because it’s my name.” There was no real need to add the last bit but him being he, he did. “What about you?” he asked, tapping Zuhayr’s shoulder. He wasn’t so sure that any means of physical contact with the boy was the wisest of decisions but who was he to care?
”I’m hoping I impress just about anything,” he went on, “as long as it’s actually a dragon. It’d be disappointing to arrive at the hatching only to find out that I’m to impress to a wild wherry. You never know, the eggs could’ve been accidently thrown together.” Since the matter of impressing was unique to the dragons themselves Leander’s little scenario held no possible truth. In addition, the idea would undermine the intelligence of dragon kind. “And if I do so happen to impress a dragon I’m hoping he’ll have both wings, otherwise it’d just make things very difficult. They’d have to teach me a whole new style of Dragonriding.” His face lighted up, as if he liked the idea of having an amputee dragonet. “They could call it Leander’s way! The prospect of having something on Pern named after me. Huh, I wouldn’t say no, that’s for sure.”

He wiped his forehead and let out a relieved sigh. “I’m glad, that way if I do smell bad then you wouldn’t be able to smell it. I’m quite happy now.” He said with a nod and grin towards the girl. He rolled his eyes and waved his hand once more, “Oh come now. Let us have fun with our more than obvious statements.”. Perhaps if Zuhayr was more observant he would realize that the girl probably wanted to be left alone. However, he wasn’t more observant which was probably quite unfortunate for Tanwen. He nodded soberly to her comments, “Yes I suppose waking up to our faces would be rather startling. It’s too good of a way to start off the day, your heart just simply explode.” Thankfully for Zuhayr, it was hard for him to take her words as she meant them (She probably meant them to be insults) but he instead took them as friendly banter. It took a lot to get him down, really.
He raised his eyebrows with surprise and asked with innocent honesty, “Really? Glasscraft? What’s that like? I’ve never met anyone from there before, so you have to give me all the dirty details about it.”. He grinned bashfully, “Sorry about that. I probably should have asked you for your name instead of calling you new girl.” He looked over to Leander and nodded. “I think you’re right. I don’t think they are the same thing either.”. Zuhayr said nothing about how he’d probably want to feel up a man before because he always just assumed his sexual preference was obvious. Everyone knew he liked guys back at home and because of that he never thought that people thought otherwise. “I’d go with becoming a rider too. More excitement.” He said, happily voicing his opinion.
He grinned crookedly and rubbed the back of his head with one hand, “Didn’t I say my name already? No? I’m bad at these things, introductions I mean. I’m Zuhayr.” He frowned slightly, “What if they named a disease after you? You probably wouldn’t want that…I don’t think so at least…”

[Sorry xD Been a bit lazy, I guess. Diving into moldy food in the fridge (cleaning it out) can do that to you. Also, I'm gonna be honest. Usually Tanwen makes more biting comments than this. You two are just making it more difficult for her to pick out things to comment on xP]
Tanwen listened to the two boys going on, keeping quiet for the most part but interjecting her own comments here and there. All the while she simply kept walking, not in the least having any idea as to where the girls' bedding area was actually located. She decided it wasn't even worth commenting that a dragon born with one wing wouldn't be able to fly at all. Of course when the other boy came out and directly asked her a question she supposed she had to answer it. "There's a lot of fire, and a lot of melted sand," she said simply.
The boys went on chattering once more then, and Tanwen went back to listening. She glanced briefly over to them when Zuhayr made the comment about a disease being named after Leander. "We could only be so lucky," she said in reply. Commenting mainly on the fact that diseases were usually only named after people that died of them; unless the person was the one to discover it, but Leander didn't particularly strike her as the medical type.
Tanwen stopped walking quite suddenly then, getting tired of walking aimlessly along the hallway. She crossed her arms and took a glance around before looking at the two boys. "I would ask the two of you for directions to the girls' barracks, but I'm worried that one of you actually will know the way." She looked at Leander with the comment; the Zuhayr boy certainly didn't seem the type that would waste his time sneaking into the girls' barracks. Follow after Leander there maybe, but for the barracks' scenery.

"I know the way!" Leander exclaimed, its right in front of us. He pointed a finger to an opening further down the hall. Then he went on to addressing everything else that had been said. "A disease named after me?" He took a moment or two to think about it, "Well as long as it made me memorable. Though I believe I'm already memorable enough so there's no need for it." His ego had run away with him again, and there wasn't much any one could do about deflating it. "Of course being a Dragonrider is more exciting! Being a Harper doesn't gain you access to flight's, and in a flight you gain access to..." he trailed off, not sure that it would be appropriate to finish that sentence, though it had never stopped him before. "Things that are... fun and frisky!" he coughed, knowing that it came out sounding just as bad as he thought it would. He didn't seem too interested in hearing about Glasscraft, though it did make her dirty, and that was of a slight interest to him.
"Glasscraft makes girls dirty, and dirty girls make..." Again he found himself trailing off, quite a predicament this boy kept on getting himself in to! He had a feeling that his words were going to get Zuhayr going off on some-sort of “men for me” topic. He glanced at Zuhayr and then turned away with a shrug, throwing an arm around the lad. “I have a feeling that this here, the three of us, is going to be a good thing. What do you think Tanwen?” he asked her, clearly wanting her input. Leander kept on not considering whether or not certain subjects would make her uncomfortable. He knew he could handle a wide range so he just made every one else have to too. He was well aware that he’d get in trouble for going in to the girl’s Candidate Barracks but it hadn’t crossed his mind yet, maybe that was because he intended to enter like a free spirited boy. Free spirit’s at Dark Moon were only free if at first the rules were followed and the requirements met. Leander gave Tanwen a small push in the direction that he had previously pointed. “Lets go and get you unpacked, shall we? You’ll also want to pick out a nice bed, bed’s are important.”

Ooc|| If Zuhayr ends up crying after all of these snarky comments, I'll know who to blame then ;c
"That sounds..." He paused, trying to think of what exactly fire and melted glass sounded like. "That sounds tricky, dangerous and dirty. I would not take part. I'm rather fond of having eyebrows and I don't think I want them singed off." He admitted with a small smile and a shrug. When he pictured himself with a lack of eyebrows, it did not look too pretty. He couldn't help but snort slightly in amusement at Tanwen's comment about the diseases, understanding the hidden message. "If it's of any consolation Leander, I guess I could miss you if you die off suddenly." He offered as he bobbled his head up and down for a minute.
Zuhayr lifted his hands in a surrending motion. "Busted. I don't know much about the girls barracks, only the boys." He admitted with a bashful grin, as if this was a horrifying thing to admit. He jerked his thumb over to Leander, "I won't lie. I only came over here because I saw this kid going after you like a lost feline and thought to myself 'Boy, those kids will need some adult supervision. I better get over there.' and that's how it all went down.". Of course whether or not this was actually true was up to them. He snickered for a moment at Leander's attempt to think of something mildly polite to finish up his flight sentence. He frowned for a moment and chewed the inside of his cheek. "Dirty girls make for fun times?" He offered, not exactly his own opinion but it was his guess as to how the sentence would finish up.
Zuhayr nodded, "I would like to agree with that statement as long as I don't get murdered in my sleep for going with this.". He was also aware of the fact that guys probably shouldn't be in the girls candidates, however he didn't want to lose the oppurtunity to hang out with some people. It got boring rather fast when you were by yourself. "Bed's are important." He said with a nod before wondering if Leander had some secretive meaning behind that statement. "For sleeping."

Tanwen looked over towards the opening that Leander pointed out. "Oddly enough, I'm not surprised you pointed that out so quickly." She sighed. Starting to walk forward until Leander's comments started turning towards Flights. The girl turned to look at him with a quirked eyebrow at the same time he'd finished up his comment. She only continued to watch him as he went to comment on glasscrafter girls. Normally she'd be full of snappy and often insulting bite-back comments, but this situation seemed to be different. The boy was like a shipwreck. The longer he was nearby the more she lost the will to chase him off. Maybe it was just that she was starting to give up on any thoughts of getting rid of him.
"Keep those comments up," she said when he was finished, "And that tongue of yours is gonna lead you straight into the claws of that friskyness you're after." She looked back to Zuhayr then when he made the reply about glasscrafting. "You don't lose eyebrows, but you are given wonderful parting gifts." She meant, of course, scars. They certainly weren't freckles spread across her face, and it wasn't as though the scar on either of her wrists was there by her choosing - she wasn't the type to try and off herself.
Tanwen looked back to Leander when he asked for her input on the three of them being 'a good thing'. "I think," she replied, "that I seem to have picked up a couple of parasites, and I get the feeling I won't be rid of them for awhile at least." It was her own way of saying she agreed that the three of them would be stuck together.
Really it was the most friendship based comment she'd made since she was a child. She'd had one good friend when she was younger, before she started her apprenticeship. Back then she'd always been bullied by the more headstrong kids. Her friend had been a sort of body guard and had let her into his circle. Then one day his family had moved to a different hold, and her Uncle had brought her to start her apprenticeship. At that point even contact with the friends of her friend was cut off, and she was never to see that childhood friend again. Since then she'd been closed off towards just about everybody. Even her family often got the cold shoulder, though not at severely.
Tanwen was pulled out of her thoughts by the hand against her back. She jerked away from the touch, sidestepping at the same time to put a bit of distance between herself and the hand that had touched her. "I'm not sure I see the point of you helping me choose a bed," she said, turning to walk towards the girl's barracks. "It's not as though you'll be seeing much of it." Tanwen was glad to see that there weren't any other girls there. She preferred getting settled alone...or, at least as lone as she could be, with the two boys tagging after her.
