With a soft rumble as he flew after the queen, his eyes swirling a fast cobalt of excitement for the chase. His steady wingbeats sped up as he turned with the queen, following the motions of her glinting golden body. He curved his turns a little, cutting off some speed as he was not as great or as swift as she, but he would endure any length of chase that this teasing queen sought fit to bestow upon those who flew after her.
He noted the other dragons in the air, males clumped together in a mass of numbers. Not all from this weyr, and not all too bright in a chase. Asuth himself had never flown a queen, but at least he was not allowing himself to be bundled up in a crowd of pursuing males as these others were.
But his eyes only momentarily left the golden beauty before returning to her brightening hide. When the sun reflected from her curving, it seemed as if she herself were a part of the sun, toying with these male dragons by making them chase her. But there wasn't a dragon among these males that did not chase of their own accord, and even Asuth aspired to be the victor, to be the chosen one, to fly the queen. His dragon lust greatened as his eyes darkened in shade, swirling faster with every beat of his wings as he made his way with the queen, behind her but not far as he flew in clean air which gave him a slight advantage of those who bumped into one another, though a few were as spread out as he, and he did not believe that he himself was the closest to her.

In didn't matter if you were slow, if you had paused to see if you could find the golden dragon, when she darted right by you were still caught offguard. Your body couldn't react fast enough it seemed and Yairith twisted it as fast as he could, pumping his wings to catch up to the beauty of a dragon. He let himself fall for a few seconds, allowing him to seperate from the large group of dragons which others were also starting to do. It was too much of a hassle to watch where you flew, careful not to collide with the others and it was easier to just avoid that in general if at all possible.
Yairith glided as he zig-zagged after the Queen, watching her as she headed towards the blue oceans nearby. He pumped his wings steadily, careful not to use too much energy in a futile effort and had no choice but to acknowledge a bronze that was nearby. It seemed this one also knew that flying in a group of dragons was also a bad idea, and Yairith had no choice but to subconciously give the beast credit for this.

Asuth gave a silent cheer to his rider as he gave a barrel roll through the air to twist to the queen's new direction. He loved the chase, pumping his wings to speed up his own pace. He held back only the reserves he required himself to have, but he watched the graceful queen's movements, tracking those other males who would win her should she choose them.
Being new to the weyr, his mind momentarily wondered if there was a set dragon who had caught the queen many times before, whose heart was so entangled with the golden queen that she would choose him no matter his standings in the chase.
But the great bronze did not let that bother him for more than the passing moment as he found other competitors who knew how to fly a chase. And the competition thrilled him as much as the chase, a great dragonsmile crossing his face as his eyes whirled fast with anticipation and excitement. Asuth could taste his own desire.

As the flight wore on Kilzanth began to struggle. He was a powerful bronze but the others had senorioty over him. He was fresh out of Weyrlinghood and although he did have youth on his side, he did not have the stamina and accumulated muscle mass of the other dragons. The Queen was taking them farther and farther away from the Weyr and the young male was beginnning to tire. The lust boiling in his veins was beginning to be replaced by fatigue. He was startled when she flashed past him heading in the opposite direction but at that point he was not too tired to turn tail and give chase again. The thermals over the ocean helped but the flight showed no signs of ending anytime soon and his muscles were starting to complain. The bronze was stubborn; however, and he forced his tiring body to forge on. He was certain if he just pushed himself a little farther the Queen might slow enough for him to overtake her. He did not want to give up even though he was now at the tail end of the pack and the latecomer had even overtaken and passed him.

Asuth flew harder, his dragonlust deepening as it spilled over to N'kal. The pair would win the queen, though it was not really up to either of them. There was no doubt in the mind of any dragon that he would win the glittering gold who twisted and turned this way and that, darting in angles and mocking those males who chased after her.
Asuth's muscles tightened and flexed as he pushed forward, watching her movements, reacting as fast as he could to her turns and sharp angles. So many others chased her, all hungry to be the victor of the chase. Asuth himself was not too old to fly, nor was he disproportionate. And even though he had a late start he was stronger and faster than quite a few of the bronzes here, and every brown. He had the endurance to remain so as well. His nostrils flared as he once again caught her scent upon the thermals, his eyes whirling red. He was a fair dragon, as good as any choice here. Other dragons were as good as he, but there were few that were better. He tucked his wings to dive a little before rising once more on the thermals, pumping his wings once he was high enough to catch another glimpse of the beauteous queen.

Kaith nearly snarled with satisfaction as one of the younger males dropped farther and farther from the pack of persuing males. He wasn't worthy of her anyway. As she flew farther and farther she could feel the strength begin to ebb from her body. She realized that she couldn't keep up this pace for much longer but she knew that if she slowed she would be caught and she wasn't quite ready to be caught yet.
More and more of the males began dropping. The Queen might be tiring but she still had more strength in her powerful body than they did. Kaith was pleased, the inferior males were no longer her concern. Only the most powerful of the males would do for her. She wanted her clutch to be strong and her eggs plenty. For that, she needed only the best mate, the strongest and the most cunning.
She glanced back, surveying her choices. One of the newcomers had had a late start but he was holding up well. So was another of the bronzes from another Weyr. Hikkanth was keeping pace but he was a little farther behind. He might have been holding on to his last reserves of energy but Kaith didn't care. He would have to prove himself like any other male.
She screamed out another challenge and spiraled higher. She planned to dive a bit over them and see what they would do. She didn't want to dive down too far because in her tiring state she wouldn't be able to get her massive body back up quickly enough to avoid capture. The energy it would take for her to rise again from a deep dive would cripple her later on in the flight. She looped in the air and passed right over the backs of the persuing males before shooting off again, this time angling herself so that she made a gradual loop back towards the weyr. They had already traveled many dragonlengths away from the start of the flight.

Asuth couldn't help but give a roar of response to her challenge as he tucked one wing in half-way and the other in entirely so that he turned as sharply as he possibly could, though diving slightly with the act, before spreading his wingspan out to its fullest extent, beating the wings heavily to gain air so that he could once more use the spirals to speed him along with less expended energy. The only thing on his mind was capturing the dragon beauty for himself, no other dragon held his worth! He had strength to fly her, and the wit to do so to the best of his abilities.
All these other males were puny in his mind, mangy looking and dirty. Why would the queen want any of them when she could choose him? He was a magnificent bronze, not the largest ever but his body was well muscled and he had endurance beyond measure. Asuth held no fear of Thread, nor would he fear losing this queen, for there was no one to lose her to. The others were watching her, wanting her, chasing her just as he was, but did they want her as great as he did? Asuth himself gave a roar of challenge to the other males who wanted her.

Kaith backwinged and shot up. A gust of thermal winds caught her wings and pushed her farther back than she intended. A dragon roared behind her, too close. She hadn't waited long enough before trying her last trick. She flapped her wings to try to twist away but she knew it was useless. With a somewhat frantic bugle, she was caught. A well-muscled tail wrapped securely around hers and she was well and truly caught.
Christae was caught as well as the rider of bronze Asuth caught her against him as securely as his bronze had caught Kaith. Dark Moon Weyr had a new Weyrleader. It was her last thought before Kaith's emotions took over once more and she gave in to the pull of dragonlust.

It felt like his muscles were screaming in protest as he tried to fly faster, higher, anything in order to gain an advance on the Queen. Around him, he could see dragons slowly start to fall back as they too felt the toll on their bodies. Yairith couldn't help but pull back a bit, slow down just a tad even though he didn't want too. He opened his jaws to bugle back to the Queen, but nothing came out. It seemed like energy would be wasted, and he didn't want to allow that. It was obvious he was not going to win, the dragon Asuth was ahead of him and seemed stronger as he let out a roar.
The older dragon fell back even more, his energy sapping quite quickly now and he watched helplessly as Kaith chose the dragon she wanted. Needless to say, it was not him. He pulled away, drifting away to the ground, accepting his loss.

Asuth did not roar out his victory as he caught the queen, his tail entangling with her own. Instead he gave the golden Kaith a gentle croon as he lent her his strength, their wingspans seeming to become one larger wingspan from the view of all who saw.
N'kal, lost in dragonlust as much as his great Asuth, caught the Weyrwoman in his arms, for she was as much his as beautiful Kait was Asuth's. For the moment, for the length of the flight. And it would be a long flight, for both N'kal and Asuth were well-trained and held great endurance. But nothing managed to cross N'kal's mind, except that the woman in his arms was his.

The flight had been going so well, Hikanth wasn't even showing any signs of tiring out, J'red and he as one mind were practically convinced that they would be the victors. However, that's when Hikanth noted that there were too many Bronzes clustered together. He tried to pull himself forwards a little more so that he was to the side of the Queen, but there was another Bronze right on the other side! Hikanth's confidence wasn't shaken, but there was a twinge of worry, and his rider down below felt it deep within his chest. If Kaith moved too close to the other Bronze, she might become entangled with him, and he would be victor!
As if predicted seconds before it happened, it happened. Kaith became tangled with the other Bronze, and it was over. Just like that. J'red, far down below, was forced to watch Christae-no, now 'the Weyrwoman', leave in another man's arms. Not just any man-someone she'd never even met until now. He had to fight back a feeling that could only be jealousy, for there wasn't anything he could do. A total stranger, probably a transfer from another Weyr, had won the woman he'd grown to care for since he'd arrived at the Weyr. A total stranger...
Hikanth gave a mournful sort of cry, before he swooped down to the earth, head hanging in dejection. His eyes were no longer blazing red-orange orbs, and he sent mournfully, *I have failed...* J'red could only shake his head, and reply back weakly, ~no, you didn't fail. I was there too, remember? It was purely accidental, what happened. No one could have forseen or done anything babout it...~ He felt a rather sickening feeling in the pit of his stomach, and suddenly he felt that for his and Hikanth's sake, they needed to go somewhere for a couple of days to let this all sink in.
It wasn't as if he'd thought it was impossible for another Rider to win. However, he hadn't expected to lose to an 'accident'. Nor had he fully prepared himself to deal with someone he had come to care for in the way he had with Christae to go off and be bedded by another man. Why was the fact that this man was a stranger suddenly so painfully resounding in his head? What difference did it make? The flight had been open, and he should have prepared himself better for this type of outcome. Should have-but did not.
J'red mounted his Bronze Hikanth, and without a word to anyone, the pair slipped off into 'between', to come back when they were ready...
