Kaith had been a rather proddy dragon during the past sevenday or so. She had stretched Christae's already strained patience to the limit. If she was not complaining that her hide itched, she was snapping at the recently graduated dragons for some minor infraction or other, such as taking too sharp an angle while gliding in drills. Christae would be glad when the Queen finally rose to mate and returned to her sweet, loving Kaith. Granted she was imperious at best, and was getting worse as the Turns past but at least she wasn't so sharding moody after she mated, clutched and hatched out the dragonets.
Christae frowned at the hide in front of her, trying to make the words focus. The office was unbearably warm and sweat trickled from the Weyrwoman's brow as she labored over the hides that stated what supplies had and what they needed. The list and the other things that followed were a daunting task for the WW with the other duties she had also taken over. She mentally checked on her dragon, wondering why the Queen wasn't nagging at her like she normally would be when she noticed her rider's tiredness. The Queen was napping on her ledge. Her hide warm and supple in the heat of the Southern sun.
Christae stood, pressing her fists into the small of her back and bending back a bit to stretch. She had been sitting in that desk since before dawn. She hadn't been able to sleep again and had decided to do something productive. Chrion had been somewhat cranky lately as well. He was probably breaking another tooth. Rhia was lucky that her twins had already finished teething. Christae would be glad when Chiron passed that stage as well. A proddy dragon was bad enough, she didn't need to deal with a cranky four Turn old toddler. He was almost old enough to go into lessons with the other Weyr brats, thank Faranth.
The Weyrwoman straightened and walked out of the ground floor office. The Weyr was bustling with activity but you couldn't tell it from the outside. Only the watch dragon was out in this head. The dragons on their ledges looked like multi-colored jewels winking in the morning sun. The activity in the weyr was underground at the moment. The denizens of the weyr were trying to escape the heat of the day. Kaith stirred, flicking her tail in annoyance and Christae wondered what dreams plagued her dragon that would cause her to stir like that?

Kilzanth raised his wedge-shaped head from his ledge, suddenly alert. His rider glanced up from the riding straps he was mending, wondering what had woken the great beast up from his slumber.
Anything wrong Kil?
The reddish-orange bronze didn't answer. His black tail flicked from side to side, much like the Queen he was suddenly very interested in watching. He growled low in his throat, a possessive note in his voice.
"Kilzanth?" P'rin set the straps down and went to see what was bothering the dragon. He scanned the weyr but saw nothing amiss. The WW was in the Bowl stretching, the watch dragon was dozing and most of the other dragons were either taking advantage of the sun or off at the beach enjoying the water. The riders were taking advantage of a rest period during the hottest part of the day but soon more people would be stirring.
P'rin followed his dragon's gaze and saw that he was staring at the great Queen that WW Christae was bonded to. "Something wrong with the Queen Kil?"
She flies soon Chosen.
P'rin's blue eyes widened and he looked good at the sleeping Queen. She seemed to be in fine fettle although her sleep was restless. She did seeem to be brighter than usual, one of the signs that she was about to rise. He wondered if the Weyrwoman realized that the bronzes were suddenly watching her Queen like a hawk and that she was about to rise to mate.

Hikanth had been well aware of Kaith's glow, her aura that she was emitting that alerted any bronze to the fact that she was soon going to rise to mate. However, he hadn't told his bonded, no, not a word. It wasn't that he was keeping anything from his rider. Merely, he was saving his rider the stressing and worrying about what would happen when Kaith did rise. He knew that his bonded wanted him to catch Kaith, even if J'red would never come outright and say it, he knew that J'red had been quietly observing Christae, and that he liked her, much more than his had ever liked the others.
J'red was usually watching Christae, but perhaps not watching Kaith closely enough. He might have seen that she was looking more bright of hide and that her attitude was more proddy and testy as of late if he had been. Despite the fact that he knew there were no guaranteed winners or losers in a flight, be it a gold's or a green's, he kept allowing himself to grow more attached to the Weyrwoman. Christae didn't give many outward signs that she felt the same way as the bronzerider did. She would blush here and there at comments, would be friendly with him. However, he wasn't certain if that wasn't how she was with everyone. Well, regardless, he didn't blame her. There'd been a few times he was almost certain she might have shown interest, but he wasn't one to just assume things. To do that would be a mistake, and unfair to either of them.
He was heading across the Weyrbowl with Hikanth walking by his side, simply enjoying the weather. It was a lovely day outside, and he hoped the sun stayed out. He planned to just relax, after having bathed and oiled his dragon, which took up most of his morning. Hikanth's bronze hide gleamed in the sun, and he secretly hoped that the gold would take to the skies on a day like today, when he looked his finest. He'd been for a swim, been flying a bit more than usual to practice for the upcoming flight. J'red had thought it only mildly unusual that Hikanth spent a lot of the last few days exercising and swimming, flying and only sleeping at night rather than falling asleep in the sunlight during the day. He didn't question it, so Hikanth never said why it was. J'red merely assumed that Hikanth might be going through a restless period. Now, walking across the Weyrbowl together in silence, he pondered it a little.

Christae noticed that some of the dragons, particularly the male dragons, were staring at Kaith. She looked to her soulmate, surprised to see the bright golden flare from her hide. Surely she couldn't be flying so soon? Christae surveyed her memories of the past few days as she moved towards the Lower Caverns. Kaith had been unusually proddy, almost mean. It all fit. She was due to rise at any rate so at least her cycle was normal.
Christae caught a drudge coming out of the Kitchens. "I need messages sent to all female dragonriders. The Queen rises to mate soon! I need flitt messengers sent to the weyrs who wish to participate. The mating flight is open."
She turned to another drudge. "Get a message to Wolf NOW. Tell her to put Serinith's flying straps on and get her riding clothes as quickly as she can. She and Serinith must go now! She can go to Southern for the interval. Someone will send for her when the flight is over. Two or three of you go and look for her. Spread out. She must not be caught here when Kaith mates. Any greens close to rising must leave as well."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Anassa was just leaving her weyr to get some breakfast when she was caught by a frantic drudge. The poor man was breathless and could only gasp out his message. "Queen...rising...get greens.... and Jr. Queen... to Southern...fast." Anassa took one second to process the message and bolted for her weyr. Priath was too close to rising to risk having her here with the Sr. Queen rising to mate. The bigger dragon would kill her if Priath rose.
What is wrong love?
We must go NOW. Kaith rises to mate. The dragon didn't question her rider further but worked with her to get out of the weyr quickly. Betweening to Southern to wait out the flight.
Kestrel had heard the news about Kaith's flight, and had volunteered Roksha to be one of the flitt messengers to be sent to other Weyrs for the flight, which she'd been told was to be open. She knew that there weren't really many bronzes in the Weyr old enough to fly Queen Kaith. So it made sense to have an open flight. Secretly, she hoped that if she had a female dragon, there'd be enough males available that she knew so that the flight wouldn't have to be open. Everyone knew what happened in a flight, how emotions ran high. She thought Akki was lucky, somewhat. She had a male dragon. She didn't have to worry about Ebbeth rising. Could send him and herself elsewhere if a female dragon rose, really. Whereas those with female dragons were subject to being caught by whatever male won. She shuddered at the thought. Attaching a note to Roksha, she sent her off to a Weyr, and waited for her to return so she could send her off to another. Roksha was fantastic at carrying messages. In fact, the Gold flitt seemed to actually enjoy carrying duties. She smiled softly, and sat there writing another note, then another, all announcing the open flight of Queen Kaith of Dark Moon Weyr.
~~~~~~
J'red saw a Green blink into between above him in the Weyr Bowl, and suddenly noticed that there were a couple of dragons he'd never seen before landing. He looked over at Hikanth, wondering what was going on that he'd not heard about. He turned in time to see yet another dragon landing. For sure, something was going on. He turned to face his dragon, who was also watching the dragons landing, caught off guard when he heard a low growl and saw his dragon's eyes swirling a shade of reddish orange. It was then that he caught on.
"Why didn't you say anything?" he asked quietly, glancing at the other dragons landing in the bowl with mild apprehension. He had known that Kaith was nearing a flight, but hadn't expected it to be so soon!
*It would not have eased you to know of it. You like Christae. You would have felt troubled. So I did not say.* Hikanth didn't look at J'red, but kept looking at the other males landing, as if assessing them. He was, however, satisfied by what he saw. He didn't think there would be any dragon here who could outsize him. He had been correct. In size, he outdid all of them. He prided himself on his size, strength and stamina. Still, even these factors might not determine the victor.
J'red sighed heavily. He was smart enough to realize that his bonded had thought to save him the worry and stress over the upcoming flight. He was no sore loser, but to lose this flight meant that Christae would be Weyrmated to someone else, in all probability. He felt something turn in the pit of his stomach, not liking the thought, or the fact that there was nothing he could do to remedy this situation.
*Do not worry mine. Have faith in me. I will not give in so easily.*
Hikanth's response eased him a little, but the Bronzerider had seen magnificent and large bronzes lose to a much lesser looking dragon. However, he merely patted his large dragon on the neck, and watched more dragons blink out of between with brows furrowed.

Kaith rises soon. Female dragons are departing the Weyr also.
Akki looked up and stared at her blue who was perched delicately in their weyr, eyes whirling as he surveyed everything that was going on. “Makes sense, it’d be too dangerous otherwise.” She replied almost slowly, as she wondered if there were any other dragons that were close to rising. She sat there in silence for a moment, all the newly graduated dragons that were female would probably leave, it was too risky to stay behind. She gave a small smile, quite grateful that she had Ebbeth. She wasn’t sure if she could handle the stress of a flight if she was the rider of a female dragon who was the one who was about to rise. “I’m guessing it will be an open flight?” Akki turned to ask and paused to watch the blue nod slowly, still watching as dragons winked out of sight while others came trickling in.
The news was spread quickly, already people are coming in. Priath and her rider just left. Ebbeth reported dutifully.
---
Meanwhile, at Southern H’ron was splayed out in his weyr, hoping that he could use his spare time to relax a bit. He had spent yesterday and most of today doing his duties as a rider and helping out around the Weyr as much as he could. He had to put his energy to use somewhere after all. He stretched and closed his eyes, grinning to himself. However, his moment of peace didn’t seem to last long at all.
Get up, Dark Moon Weyr beckons. A voice rumbled silently. H’ron slowly opened up one eye to stare at the dragon. The dragon in question was his own, of course. Yairith picked himself up off of the dragon to stare at his rider patiently. He was a bronze, his hide was almost vibrant as it was a mixture of copper and a red while the tip of his tail gradually turned darker, into a murky black. He wasn’t the largest dragon, only of medium height and build and he was old enough to have people beginning to refer to him as ‘wise’ instead of ‘cheeky’ like he used to be called. H’ron straightened, “Beckons? You’ll have to give me more of an explanation Yairith.” Their Queen rises. He replied rather simply.
The man frowned slightly. He knew that Dark Moon only had a handful of full riders, so there probably weren’t very many dragons to chase after the Queen which meant that it would be an open flight. He had to admit that he felt rather bad for the Weyrwoman, whom he had never met but had heard of a fair number of times, there was probably nothing more awkward to have a whole bunch of unknown dragons and their riders chase after her gold. Blue Airoth just told me of the news. Am I right to assume that we would be going? The bronze questioned. H’ron sighed and nodded, “You would be right.” And with that said, both rider and dragon straddled up and found themselves winking into the Between.
They came back into sight, hovering above Dark Moon’s Weyrbowl with quite a few other people, no doubt also there for the flight. “Haha! You have competition, you old dragon.” H’ron laughed happily, thumping his dragons side as they landed with a soft ‘thump’. You’re the only old one here, thank you very much. You’re also the only one with competition, everyone here is much better looking than you. Yairith replied without missing a beat, grinning dragonically. H’ron rolled his eyes at the dragons answer as the bronze politely sent a greeting to the Queen and her Weyrwoman, deeming it as the respectable thing to do. Greetings Queen of Dark Moon Weyr. My rider H’ron and myself hope we find you and your rider in good health.
Ooc|| I figured I should bring in someone to spice up the flight ;c

Kaith was still sleeping but with bronzes arriving from distant weyrs and beginning to cause a commotion as well as speaking to her she began to stir, her golden hide blazing brighter as she slowly came awake.

Rhia ran out of her weyr, still in her riding clothes. She and Mneith had just returned from an errand for the Weyrwoman. She needed to find R'xis and his brown. They had to leave. She and Mneith would leave as well. She didn't want Mneith chasing after Kaith. That would be horrible for the female brownrider.
Gylfie located R'xis in his new weyr and Rhia hurriedly clambored aboard her dragon. She had barely clipped her safety strap to her belt before the brown leapt into the air, jerking his rider.
Sorry chosen.
"Its fine. Just get me to R'xis's weyr so we can get out of here before Kaith wakes up."
Mneith told the younger brown that he was coming and hovered by the ledge so that his rider could jump. She unclipped her strap and leapt from her hovering dragon to the ledge of the newly graduated pair's weyr.
"R'xis we've gotta go! Ersith is a female and way to close to rising for safety. If she rises for her maiden flight Kaith will kill her." She charged into the weyr, yelling her instructions, not caring if she caught the brownrider in a state of undress. The health of their dragons was more important than his modesty. She realized that the other brownrider might not have heard the news yet. "Sr. Queen Kaith is rising to mate. Hurry before she wakes up."
"I am leaving too. I don't want Mneith chasing after Kaith. That would be just too awkward. You can come with me. Wolf and Serinth and Anassa and Priath are coming as well. Priath is too close to rising as well and Kaith would kill another gold. Get your riding clothes and let's go!"

Mine, we must go! Serinth sent to her rider in surprise, breaking the silence between the two. The air rushed past Wolf's face, her riding straps keeping her in tight to assure that she didn't fall off of Serinth. Serinth and her were on one of there daily flights around Dark Moon, enjoying the freedom of being in the skies. "What, why?" Wolf asked, looking to her dragon's head in confusion. "We're already going pretty fast Ser-," Wolf said aloud, her dragon cutting her off to quickly fill her rider in. Kaith flies, we must /between./ Wolf closed her eyes over, preparing herself since she knew that Serinth wouldn't waste any time in /betweening/ to a safe haven. Wolf couldn't help but wonder: Who will catch Kaith?
The cold of /between/ was soon gone when Serinth burst in to the open air. Wolf heaved a sigh, studying their new surroundings. "Well, at least you're safe now, right?" Serinth crooned a yes. "That's all that matters... I just wonder what Kaith's clutch will be like this time. She really outdid herself last time, I'm sure she'll manage to do so again."
Last time there was me Mine, so of course I'd agree to that, Serinth said jokingly.
~ ~ ~
R'xis was sitting on the edge of his bed with reading material in hand, no shirt or pants present on his body. When he heard Rhia's voice he immediately dropped his reading material on the ground and squatted down behind his bed for cover. He barely had time to run over what she'd said before he swallowed down his embarrassment and ran to fetch his clothes silently. He came out of the bathing room dressed in his rider's wear, his riding straps in hand. He ran to an area not far off where Ersith was sound asleep in her own weyr, her tail twitching to and fro. "We're coming!" he shouted out to Rhia, his face still coloured red. "Ersith, wake up, we have to go!" Come on, quick! he shouted to her. The female brown stirred, muttering something about being inconvenienced. Kaith is rising! Ersith bugled in alarm, not having understood the urgency in the matter. Well then be quick about it! she sent to him in annoyance, not liking to be woken up the way she had been. When R'xis had adjusted her straps it wasn't long before the both of them had taken to the air.
"Thank you for coming to us Rhia! You're a life saver, really!" R'xis shouted out to her, his messy hair becoming all the more messy in appearance due to the blowing wind. It wasn't surprising that he began to blush all over again. Thank you Mneith, my rider always needs some one to get him up and going it would seem. Ersith didn't keep R'xis from hearing her comment to the other brown. The female brown pulled up along side Mneith, keeping a good distance away so that they still had suitable wing room.

The brown's voice was warm as he responded to Ersith's thanks It is no problem at all. We wouldn't want your pretty hide marred by scars before Thread even has a chance to fall.
"It's no problem. I wouldn't want to watch a pupil of mine, or any dragon for that matter, get injured or killed because a Queen rose without warning. Let's go before she wakes." Rhia waited until Ersith had launched, raising her hands to shield her face from the dirt the female brown raised with her wings and then went to the edge of the ledge. Mneith had moved away when Ersith had come out and now he came back so that Rhia could jump onto his back from R'xis's weyr. She quickly clipped her belt line to the brown's riding straps and gave him and R'xis the signal to go /between/.
Rhia and Mneith emerged safely over Southern Weyr bugling a greeting to the Watchdragon so that the Weyr knew that they were friends. Mneith could see Priath and Serinth already in the Weyr Bowl. Rhia glanced around to see that R'xis and Ersith had made it safely. Losing a freshly-graduated pair would be disasterous at the same time that the Queen was rising. It would set the dragons off and the mating flight would not produce as many eggs as the huge Queen was wont to do.

The two rider and dragon pairs had just vanished /between/ when Kaith opened her jewel-faceted eyes and lifted her wedge-shaped head. The Queen's eyes swirled with orange and red as the mating hunger hit her. She reared up and bugled a challenge to any male who was brave enough to meet her challenge and any female who dared to try to take any of her males. Christae had gotten the other females out just in time because if any had been there, Kaith would have wanted to tear them limb from limb. These males were HERS.
She bugled again, the sound more of a roar as she leapt from her ledge in a magnificent display of muscle and sinew. The great golden Queen pulsed with light as she bore down on a terrified herdbeast in the feeding pens.
Christae was taken aback by the ferocity of her Queen. This was her Queen's third flight and Christae thought that controlling her would be easier. Instead, she felt herself reeling back into the arms of a nearby bronzerider as the Queen's emotions overwhelmed her senses. The Weyrwoman fought to keep her identity intact, knowing that she had to keep the Queen from gorging herself and slowing her down in her mating flight.
"Blood..." Her voice came out as a croak and she mentally steeled herself, clearing her throat and stepping forward away from the helpful bronzerider and taking charge. "Blood only Kaith! You MUST NOT eat the flesh." She yelled at her dragon both mentally and physically, preparing herself for the onslaught of Kaith's rebellion. Both dragon and rider were headstrong and this would be a battle of wits between the lusty dragon and her rider.
"BLOOD ONLY KAITH! You will be slow and the males will think you are not worthy." That goaded the dragon. She drained one carcass and leapt upon another one. She drained three herdbeasts of blood before she was even close to being satisfied. The males watched as she slowed as she was blooding the fourth. Christae had to keep fighting her dragon's desire to gorge on the hot flesh for each kill. The bronzes were blooding as well and the WW hoped they had as hard a time keeping their dragons under control as she did.
With a throaty roar of challenge, Kaith dropped her fifth kill after barely touching it and leapt straight up into the air with a mighty surge of her haunches. Her cry was a taunt, a haughty challenge to all who dared to think they were worthy of her. She was the largest Queen on Pern and they paled in comparison to her magnificence.
Christae felt a cry being torn from her lips as Kaith roared her defiant challenge to all. She was half Christae/ half Kaith, and Kaith threatened to overwhelm her. She knew she had to cling to some part of humanity at least until Kaith chose her mate. She beckoned to the male riders who's dragons were participating in the flight and led them in a dance of seduction to a ground floor weyr kept ready for such purposes. No dragon-lust induced rider could manage steps. Christae led the riders in a dance of seduction on the ground even as her dragon led her persuers in a dance through the skies, dipping and diving and climbing high into the clouds only to spiral quickly down and catch them unawares as she once again climbed and vanished into the fluffy clouds scattered across the sky.

Hikanth's rumbling growl alerted J'red, who had been watching the bronzes and a few scattered browns landing in the bowl. All were fine dragons, probably wanting to win almost as badly as his did. He only thought 'almost' because there was added reason for Hikanth wanting the victory on this day. He wondered if his feelings on things would have altered his dragon's pursuit in any way, perhaps goaded him on to fly faster and better than he might have without the feelings of his rider. True, Hikanth liked Kaith, too. But then again, what bronze in his right mind would not? She was a large, lovely creature, and he would have thought more of it had his dragon's now husky sounding voice reverberated in his mind.
*She rises...I will pursue!*
It was only courtesy that had the males who were crowding around waiting for the Queen to finish blooding her kills away from her. None would rise to chase until she herself took off in flight. Hikanth was no exception, though as his eyes turned to red-orange shades and he shot the circle of bronzes defiant and challenging looks, it was obvious that every muscle in the great bronze's hide was taunt, ready to launch from where he was at the first skyward leap of his Queen.
J'red felt dizziness kicking in, that sort of mind numbing lustful dizziness he'd experienced only a couple of times. He had never wanted to participate in Queen flights up until now. He didn't like any of them the way he did Christae, however, and hadn't wanted to be Weyrmated. He had allowed for Hikanth to participate in a few green flights, however, and Hikanth had always come out the victor. They weren't anything to him, however, than allowing his dragon to participate in flights because any healthy and strong bronze would want to do so, and he didn't feel right denying his the right to pursue. Hikanth obviously would have liked to pursue a gold, but perhaps it was the respect he had for his rider's feelings that made their bond even stronger.
It was then that J'red saw Christae cry and fall into the arms of another bronzerider who had caught her to prevent her falling. J'red gave a growl low in his throat even as his dragon did the same, watching the other males eying Kaith like she was a fat herd beast. She was his, how dare they lay a hand on her?! J'red was also taken aback by his dragon's overpowering lust and emotions, and he found himself fighting just to stay on his feet. It became even harder when Christae began doing something that he felt was akin to a dance, as if she were moving lithely, in a way he couldn't even describe as anything but hypnotic, as he became mesmerized watching her movements. He found them provocative and seductive, but he was sure, somewhere in his mind, that that was precisely what they were meant to be. She was seemingly leading them in a dance over the ground, and, heedless of where she would lead, he felt completely helpless to do anything but follow, along with a throng of other riders who seemed bound to do the same. However, his icy blue eyes were shining fiercely at his competitors, as he shot them looks that obviously were warnings for them not to get to close to the mate that would be his.
He realized then how far into Hikanth's lust filled emotions he was really getting. Mate? She was the woman whom he admired and had liked since he'd first helped her off of her gold's back on the day of his arrival. He found himself trying not to think of her as his prize to be won, failing much thanks to his dragon. To Hikanth, Kaith was the finest prize on all of Pern! His golden beauty, the light of his world. J'red could not help but feel what his dragon felt, the pull was too strong. And then, just like that, Kaith was off!
Hikanth's powerful wings as he backwinged away from the ground beneath him sent up a large spray of dust and loose earth. He answered Kaith's cry with a bugle of his own. He was coming, and he would win her, no matter what! She was his, and his alone! These other dragons, they could not cast a candle to him. He was the mighty dragon, bronze Hikanth! They would see his power, and they would lose to his stamina and his will. He snarled left and right, to the dragons who were following, and pumping his powerful wings, arms and hind legs streamlined with his body and tail straight out back, he rose higher and higher to level with where Kaith chose. As she darted through the skies, weaving and turning this way and that, he mimicked her movements but cut diagonals to make his way shorter than what she did, bringing him closer by his tactical maneuvers. He would show her he was worthy, that he was intelligent on top of everything else, and was a dragon who deserved her in all her glory! He watched her every move, careful to not loose sight, and gliding on thermals where he could to give his stamina a greater chance of outlasting all the rest. Five beasts she'd nearly blooded, and he knew her flight would be a great one. He was more determined than ever to be the victor.

R'xis understood how this could be. To have him in her class, to have trained Ersith and him all that time... It'd be devastating for one of them to just be killed off when it could've been prevented. "Well, thank you, once again. I really do appreciate your coming here Rhia." Ersith rumbled amusedly at the compliment. Is that flattery Mneith? she asked, wondering if he could handle her teasing. He seemed laid back enough, he was quite the respectable dragon from what she knew of him. R'xis and Ersith spotted Rhia’s signal and followed Mneither and her /between/ to Southern. The two burst out from /between/ after the pair, diving down gracefully to land in the Weyrbowl.
R'xis stayed on Ersith, looking around to see who was all here. He took note of Priath and Anassa, and then too spotted his sister with Serinth. Both pairs didn't seem to have been here that long. Wolf was just dismounting her dragon, having some-sort of conversation with the Gold. He nodded to Rhia, having gotten over what had happened this morning, thankfully. What shall we do? Go and see Serinth? R'xis asked Ersith. The female brown looked to Mneith, then to Priath, and then finally to Serinth. I wish to talk to every one. "Well, that's polite... and a good idea," he spoke out.

H'ron looked around and noted the number of bronze and brown dragons and their riders, there was quite a few and he couldn't help but wonder which ones were from Dark Moon. Were any of her kin going to join the chase? That would be vaguely awkward, but it was quite possible. The man turned to ask his bronze something, only to notice that Yairith's attention was somewhere else. The dragons normally calm, green whirling eyes were now viciously churning with a vibrant red-orange color. A low rumbling noise could be heard coming from Yairith as the dragon watched with what seemed like possessiveness as the large Queen launched herself into the herdbeast pen. The flight had begun.
No one would disrupt the golden Queen as she feasted upon herdbeasts, all of the dragons bronze or brown knew better than to do that. Instead they would all crowd around, waiting impatiently and shooting one and another glares and silently wishing they would just accept defeat already. Each male dragon that was here believed that he was the only one that was fit to catch Kaith. Yairith crouched, waiting impatiently as his tail twitched, ready to push himself off of the ground and into the air.
H'ron sighed with a mutter of "Here we go." and closed his eyes, expecting his dragons emotions to wash over him. However, it didn't so much wash over him as it collided into him. It was a little unexpected, H'ron didn't think Yairith would feel this much. It partially made sense though, Yairith hadn't participated in a flight for a bit now for there was an absence of them back at home and the dragon was slight competitive. The bronze was no longer H'rons wonderful loving and snarky dragon, but instead this competitive being who was only focused on Kaith. H'ron had to doubt that anyone would be able to get used to the feeling of dragon-lust. He looked over at the Weyrwoman, Yairiths emotions clouding his mind, and watched as she began to almost dance. Now, if this was any other time he'd probably would question the Weyrwoman's sanity if she began to dance like this however this time, the dance seemed to make complete sense. Everyone followed her, without any questions but instead just knowing that it was what they were meant to do.
And without a warning, Kaith leaped into the air and was flying as quickly as she could away from the males. Yairith sprung up into the air, careful not to get his wings tangled with anyone else's and pumped them as fast as he could in hopes of catching up to the Queen. He had never met Kaith before, but at that moment if felt like he not only wanted her but needed her too. He was nearly beside Hikanth completely when the dragon snarled at his competitors. If Yairith noticed, he probably would have snarled back but he was too caught up in paying attention to notice. He followed the motions of the Queen, careful to avoid any use of energy that seemed pointless as he spiraled and turned in order to get closer.

Christae felt a shadowed form of relief when the group of flight participants followed her into the safety of the ground floor weyr. All of the participants were being affected by the powerful dragonlust that poured from their dragons. Christae hadn't thought that it would be this strong after her dragon's previous two flights but it seemed that the Queen was just as lusty as ever.
Kaith's powerful wings swept through the heated air of the Southern continent. She enjoyed the thrill of air whooshing over her body and the sound of the dragons persuing her. She angled herself up and flew into the clouds, rising above them. The sun gleaming off her golden body blinded the dragons below her. She waited for a while and then dove back into the clouds, using them to hide herself from her persuit.

There was a bugle of entry as a bronze rider burst from between, the muscular dragon landing swiftly to let his rider off of his back before following suit of the chase for the risen queen.
N'kal made his way to where the hopeful men stood around the pretty woman who belonged to the gold dragon flying swiftly in the sky. This wasn't exactly what he had planned to do on the day he transferred into a new weyr, but Asuth had been insistent the moment he had seen there was a flight in chase. The dragon certainly did love flying after the ladies, N'kal shook his head. Then he looked around at all the faces here. Every one was unfamiliar to him, making him slightly uncomfortable. But before long the dragon lust from his Asuth had overtaken him as it had all the other men standing in wait and anticipation. He wanted his bronze to win, but he wasn't entirely sure if it was possible given the late start.
Asuth was swift as he began his chase after the queen, the sun glinting off of his bright, well oiled bronze hide, feeling the wind rush against his lean but large figure as he beat his wings hard in an attempt to catch up. He could smell the traces of the queen on the air, which only fed his need to chase her, to fly her, to be chosen by her. He would fly hard as she did, and would not give in unless he was already chosen not the winner, but that didn't seem an option in his mind. He would win the flight and the queen!

As of the moment, the flights competitors were rather close together, it would be easy to two dragons to accidently move to close and clip each others wings. Hopefully in a few minutes, some of the faster dragons would be able to pull ahead while others fell behind, lessening the chance of a fatality. Yairith angled his bodyand pulled upwards, and as the sun hit Kaith's hide his eyes felt as if they were slightly burning from the brightness of it, but it was impossible to tear his eyes away from the sight. He pumped his wings as fast as he could, breaking through the clouds, tendrils of the white trying to cling to him as he passed by. He watched as Kaith dived into the clouds, and Yairith knew that he couldn't exactly stop suddenly to look for her, there was too much of a chance that someone would collide roughly into him. He turned his body around, aiming for the clouds below him and hoping that the golden dragon would appear soon so he wouldn't pass by her unknowingly.

From his starting distance, a little behind all the rest, Asuth could watch and see the movements of the others in the chase. He could see the glinting hide of the magnificent queen as she out maneuvered all the males who sought after her. She was well proportioned and a sight to behold. But between she and Asuth were many, many males, most of them clambering together trying their best to beat the others without really taking their eyes off of the queen.
Asuth could tell that that was a disaster waiting to happen. He kept low, just beneath the brunt of males that were following the queen, his great wingspan beating determinedly as he followed suit, keeping the gold who tantalized and teased those who saw her in his field of vision. He would watch her movements and mimic her to his best ability. This early in the chase wasn't about speed, it was about power and the longevity of the flight. All he had to do at the moment was stay in chase of her. When the field waned and the queen tired some it would begin the second part of the flight. The part where all he had to do was beat all those who were still flying after her, all he had to do was let her see his worth and try to move her to see him as a choice. She would choose whichever dragon she saw fit, the one who would sire her the best of clutches, and Asuth would do his best to be that very dragon!

After remaining in the clouds and gaining speed, Kaith curved in the air and shot off in the opposite direction of what she had been flying in, dropping down a bit so that she was just out of reach and darting right past the startled males. Her massive wings took her swiftly away in the other direction, back towards the weyr.
The people in the weyr were watching the flight and were a bit disappointed to see the dragons fly out of sight. They were surprised when the watchdragon bugled and looked up to see the giant Queen pass over the weyr again in all her golden magnificence. She switched directions again, this time flying at right angles to the direction she was going in and headed out towards the beaches along the ocean that bordered the Weyr.
She spiraled and used the thermals to bring her up. She was pleased with the newcomer, he was a fine bronze. She hadn't made her choice yet but there were one or two she might consider choosing to be her mate. They hadn't proven themselves just yet. She would make them work to prove that they are worthy of you.
