((ooc: open to whoever))
It was officially too early for her to be awake regardless of the fact that she was a Healer and should have been used to it. And she had a headache, partially due to lack of sleep and partially due to the young Brown firelizard that had taken the time to creel in her ear so early in the morning. Araceli was pretty sure that three-quarters of the Weyr was not awake yet as she made her way to the Kitchens. Kaj was still creeling rather loudly in her ear from her shoulder. The Healer’s brown eyes were still half-closed as if in their own attempt to continue sleeping. But she was up now, and had a curse of some sort that prohibited her from falling back asleep once she had woken up for the day.
She stopped at the entrance to the Kitchens, ignoring Kaj as she looked around. There was a small group of people talking quietly at one table, and other than the usual drudges and lower-caverns workers the large room was empty. Araceli was tempted to cover the flit’s mouth with one hand in order to not draw attention to herself. She briskly requested a bowl of scraps from one of the drudges, then made her way over to an empty table in the center of the room.
“Now hush you ridiculous creature.” She hissed as Kaj tackled the bowl. He was quite old enough to not demand food like a Hatchling, and yet he was accustomed to eating early in the day and intended to keep it that way no matter the cost to his owner. Said Brown was now chirping in accomplishment between mouthfuls of food.
Araceli left him briefly and returned with a cup of klah. Sitting down she took a sip of the hot drink before laying her head down on the table as it started to throb along with her heartbeat. She knew well enough that she should make herself some tea to see if it helped the headache, but she had needed to care for Kaj first. She loved Pern’s fauna too much for her own good. Maybe if she Impressed another firelizard Kaj would stop being so possessive. He acted like a Gold half the time.
And of course, it was an excuse to Impress another firelizard…The young woman closed her eyes and smiled at the idea.

Christae looked up from her cup of klah as the Healer entered. It was early for the rest of the weyr but Christae had already been up for several candlemarks. Kaith was sunning on the highest part of the weyr, her golden hide slightly off-color.
She watched as Araceli got a first cup of klah and smiled when the flitt began to creel for food. Birinj, her own bronze flitt woke when the thought of food entered Christae's head and he popped from *between* creeling. Christae rose, trying to stretch the kinks out of her back and made her way over to where the drudges had set out extra scraps just for hungry flitts.
"Good morning Araceli." she said as she walked back to the tables. "Are you ok? You look a bit tired." Christae's voice was soft.

Araceli barely registered that fact that Kaj was silent for a moment. She was still thinking about having a second firelizard. Faranth, she’d care for three of them if she got the chance. Besides great companions, they were helpful in her Craft. Kaj had turned out nicely in that light, being pretty reliable with messages and retrieving small objects. The sound of another flit creeling nearby almost made her look up out of curiosity, but she was quite comfortable with her head on the table just ignoring everything else around her. Until someone came over obviously talking to her. Wait she knew that voice as someone rather important.
Her head snapped up in a way that had her cringing as it throbbed in retaliation, but she nodded to Christae, straightening her back and stretching her arms above her head. “I can handle the lack of sleep but I wish the headache I’ve got would let up.” The Healer replied with a smile. “And good morning, Weyrwoman.”
“I didn’t know that you had a firelizard.” She added as an afterthought with a tilt of her head to the miniature Bronze. If she was distracted then she could ignore the headache more effieciently. Kaj had finished the bowl of meat scraps by then and was merely curled up next to Araceli’s hand.

"I know the feeling." Christae said with a deep sigh. "If you want, I have a powder that you can put in some tea or klah that helps with the headache." She mentally pictured the small bag of powder that she had been using more often than not lately.
"I'll have Birinj bring it." She called the little bronze to her and gave him the image. He had seen her mixing that power into her drink several times and was back with it quickly, popping from *between* with a satisfied chirp. Christae stroked his eye ridges and took the bag from him.
"I have had him for a little over two Turns now. He usually prefers to stay on Kaith or in my weyr or office. He dislikes loud noises and when I am driling he prefers to stay away." Christae measured out a dose of the powder and slipped it into her klah, hoping the healer wouldn't see. Lately Klah and headache powder had been all that was keeping her going. "This isn't better than fellis juce but it usually helps and doesn't put you to sleep." She measured out another dose, a smaller one and offered it to Araceli.

Araceli couldn’t help but grin when Christae mentioned the medicinal powder. She probably shouldn’t have been waiting so long to take something, but hopefully the powder would help anyways. When the Weyrwoman’s firelizard reappeared with the bag Kaj opened one eye and let out an inquisitive chirp. He too was used to carrying small bags of herbs or measured doses of certain powders.
“I’m surprised Kaith would tolerate him for any long period of time.” She thought aloud. “But he is a Bronze so he probably isn’t as nagging as a Green would be.” She smiled slightly again. “I wonder sometimes if Kaj was meant to be a Green of Gold, he never leaves me alone.” Her brown eyes gazed lovingly at the Brown for a long moment before looking up again in time to see Christae adding some of the powder to her own drink. She raised an eyebrow and nodded in thanks to the offered dose for herself.
Pouring it into her cup which was still practically full she sat back in her seat with a sigh. “But I see I am not the only one who awakens early in the day with a headache.” She said before taking a drink, her voice slightly teasing.

"Birinj knows that Kaith will just snap at him if he's too excited around her. He usually just lays next to her or on her forelegs and naps while she does. He knows that if she isn't in a playful mood and he is he has to leave." She chuckled. "Each flitt's personality is different."
"Lately I have been using more of this than I should." The Weyrwoman said quietly. "The Weyr is doing fine but I have been putting in too many candlemarks of work. This just helps so I don't snap at anyone who looks at me wrong." She winked. "The drudges just took some sweet rolls out of the oven. Uslanee is having them try a new glaze. Want to try some? I want to get myself a few. I could have a drudge bring us some."

It hadn't been a long journey at all for the Kaiya. Living in the Weyr often meant that one who was to be a Candidate at the next hatching would be transported a-dragonback to wherever it was he or she happened to be going. Such was the case with Kaiya, formerly of Ciorram Weyr to the North. However, with the exertions of packing and the excitement of one newly searched, Kaiya was actually quite mentally worn out by the time she was let off at the Weyrbowl of Dark Moon Weyr. It was a smaller Weyr than her prior home had been, but she had high hopes for it. This, after all, was where she was to stand for a hatching. Besides, for someone who spent most of their time out-of-doors, any place was a good place to call home. Not to mention that she couldn't wait to find her kin, Tikal, who had been searched a mere sevenday before she had been-imagine the look of shock on his face at that! What were the chances? Kaiya considered herself very lucky indeed. Not only would she not lose her only true friend on Pern, but she would have the opportunity to stand at the very same hatching he would be standing at. She dismissed the thought that one of them might impress while the other stood-she'd be happy even if he just impressed the first time around. There would be more hatchings-and if anyone deserved to be a rider it was him. She just considered herself even lucky to even get a chance at impression-it was never something she'd considered a likelihood for herself.
Before she found Tikal, however, she had to find someone who could direct her to the Candidate Barracks. She hadn't brought a lot of stuff, but a touch more than some. That 'touch more' was her favorite books, and some scrolls and parchment, and of course her crossbow-she knew if she impressed her dragonet would love it if she caught food for her herself. With a small smile at this thought, she turned down a corridor, and tilted her head to the side when she heard voices coming from what sounded like a larger room than most. Those might be people who could direct her to where she had to go-and perhaps to where the Weyrwoman was-she had a letter of transfer for herself as a Candidate of Dark Moon. She knew that she would be amongst at least a few Candidates, as she was told that there were transfers from quite a few places-including her own Ciorram and not excluding Telgar. Part of her was hoping to meet these other Candidates-another part would rather not have. She knew it was unlikely that everyone was judgmental-but it wasn't the ones that weren't she was at all concerned about-it was the ones that were. But now wasn't the time for worrying over something that hadn't happened yet. With this in mind, she entered into what seemed to be the Weyr's dining hall, and spotted two women sitting at a table, chatting amiably. She didn't want to interrupt them, but she needed answers and they were quite obviously the only ones there, so she didn't really care all that much-nor did she think they might at that. She reached them at a brusque walk, and then with an offered hand and hopeful smile, she offered, "I'm Kaiya, I've come from Ciorram Weyr as a Candidate for Dark Moon's next hatching. Sorry to bother you two ladies, but do you know where I might find either the Candidate barracks and the Weyrwoman? Preferably the one before the other, as I've got all this to drop off," and here she hefted her pack over and onto the floor beside her, and then, "though I would certainly not mind a bite to eat, if you could just direct me towards the kitchens?" She smiled at them both, observing them carefully. The one had a tired look about her, as if she were worn out quite a bit, but still there was pride in her stature, and she was almost certain that this woman was a rider. The other, however, she was unsure of. Could have been a rider, but maybe she was a crafter or filled another position here at the Weyr.

Araceli nodded in response to the Weyrwoman when the idea of firelizards having individual personalities was mentioned. To her, each flitter was just as unique as each dragon was. “And of course you are working too much.” She added with a rather stern tone to her voice. How much older was Christae than herself, one Turn? Ever since she had arrived at Dark Moon she’d respected the Weyrwoman for all she was doing. “You’re running the whole place by yourself. Anyone who thinks it’s easier just because this is a small Weyr is a dimglow.”
And she had been about to reply about the sweet rolls because she was actually hungry now despite the headache, when a younger girl approached them. Red hair and green eyes; a combination that was generally easily remembered. Araceli did not know her, maybe Christae did. But the thought was wiped away as Kaiya introduced herself.
Glancing at Christae with an amused look the Healer stood and briefly shook the Candidate’s hand. “Welcome to Dark Moon. I’m Araceli, a Journeyman Healer here. My companion may be able to help you with at least one of your searches. In the meantime I’ll go get some of those fresh sweet rolls.”
With a smile to the Weyrwoman she set a course for the Kitchens. If she moved around a bit perhaps her headache would go away faster.

"There isn't much I can do about the fact that I am running the weyr by myself until Kaith rises to mate again. Sh'iron left the night of her last Hatching. It will be some time yet before she rises again." Her voice was sharper than she had intended. "I didn't mean to snap at you. It's just frustrating that he did that to us when we needed him the most. Perhaps it is for the best though, there isn't as much bickering in the wings now that he's gone."
Christae's tired brown eyes sparked with interest when she saw the newcomer. New Candidates and transfer riders were pouring in daily and the weyr was becoming stronger. As long as she didn't fail, Dark Moon would survive.
You will not fail. I am with you. We are together. We can never fail. Touched and comforted by her Queen's confidence she smiled. Her eyes focused back on the green-eyed redhead and she smiled at the newcomer.
"Araceli, bring some for our new Candidate please." She glanced at the girl. "At this early in the morning, fresh, hot sweet rolls are a treat. Thank you."
Christae looked the Candidate over, noting that she carried more personal belongings than some of the other Candidates had arrived with. "Araceli is right, I can help you with one of your searches. I am the Weyrwoman." Christae waved one of the passing drudges over. "I would like you to help Candidate Kaiya with her belongings." The drudge bowed and turned to the Candidate.
"If you please miss." He took the bags from her and carried them out of the Dining Cavern.
"After you have eaten I will have someone notify the Candidate Master of your arrival. I am certain that she will be happy to arrange a tour of the weyr for you. I am Christae of Sr. Queen Kaith." She held out her hand. "Welcome to Dark Moon Weyr. We are happy to have you here."

0oc: stoopid meh, I forgot to post back here. *apologetic look* ^^;;
Kaiya smiled and nodded to the woman who'd just introduced herself as Journeyman Healer Araceli, and then replied courteously, "it's a pleasure to meet you, Araceli." When Araceli made the commentary that her companion could help with 'at least one of her searches', she turned her attention to the other woman-the one she'd thought might be a rider. Was her assumption correct, then? For a moment, she wondered exactly what Araceli had meant by that-at least one? Well, a rider might know more about where the Weyrwoman was, for one...but then again, she didn't know how well Araceli knew the Weyrwoman, at that. Could this woman be... Admin's Note:
Her next thought was answered with Christae's next words. At the woman's way of asking the healer to bring more sweet rolls, and the mannerism in which she asked-very direct, with a voice that didn't doubt that the other woman would have no problems in doing what she asked her to...even before the Weyrwoman confirmed her identity, the thought that she was the Weyrwoman of Dark Moon had already entered Kaiya's mind.
"I'm glad to have found you so soon, Weyrwoman," she paused to make a polite bow, as was customary when meeting a Weyrwoman or rider for the first time-though especially the Weyrwoman-and then stood up straight once more, continuing, "I wasn't quite sure where to go from here, and most of the drudges and others seemed quite busy. I was told to let you know I was here, and to give you my transfer note from my own Weyrleaders." She fished momentarily in her left pocket and brought out a neatly folded parchment, handing it to the Weyrwoman. And then, she also removed a half-mark and gave it to the drudge with a small nod of thanks, before turning back to the Weyrwoman once more. She would be seated when asked, as she tended to defer to the higher-ups on what was acceptable behavior at each location.

Christae nodded in response to the Candidate's bow. At least some of the youngsters pouring into the weyr had manners, although the girl wasn't much younger than Christae herself. "Thank you my dear. I trust your Weyrleaders are well?" She glanced down at the names after she opened the parchment. "I rember WW __insert name here__ was feeling a bit poorly recently but it was nothing that nine months couldn't cure. Has she had the babe yet?"
The passing of the mark from hand to hand was not missed by Christae. She raised her eyebrow but did not say anything. Drudges in the Weyr were well-treated and the man thought it a treat to be able to get out of the Lower Caverns for a while but the half-mark wouldn't go amiss with the Gather season starting. The Southern Continent started their Gathers not long after Turn's End because of the hot weather. It was tolerable during the winter on the Southern Continent and mostly storming.
"I hope you had a good trip. You will find that this weyr doesn't really stand on ceremony Kaiya. Please be seated, otherwise good manners dictate that I must stand as well and I am rather tired. There is klah in those pitchers on the hearth or redfruit juice if you wish on the table over there." Christae gestured. "Araceli will hopefully bring us some of the sweet rolls the drudges just took out of the ovens. They know I am usually up at this hour so they save me some."

Kaiya smiled brightly and nodded affirmatively at the WW's questions as to the arrival of her prior WW's new baby. "Yes, she had a girl, and named her Ariya. She's a very bright and happy baby," she said, the fondness for the young child obvious in her tone. She wondered if this Weyrwoman had any children of her own, and ventured, "what of yourself, Weyrwoman? Do you have children as of yet, or... Admin's Note:
" she left the question to hang, meaning quite obviously she wasn't sure if Christae did or didn't. When offered a seat and told that this Weyr didn't 'stand on ceremony', her smile once again grew, and she took a seat with a quiet 'thank you', glancing over at the redfruit on the other table, making up her mind to get some of that once she'd eaten. She, unlike so many others, wasn't huge on Klah. She drank it when it was needed, with the purpose of either waking oneself up or keeping one more wakeful. However, she preferred water and juices to the Klah, and would take those most times over the other-unless she was of the mind to have a hot drink. She then briefly turned to look in the direction Araceli had gone, before turning back to Christae and replying, "sweet rolls at this time of day are a treat indeed. I'm guessing I should count myself fortunate that I arrived when I did, hrm?" She grinned, stretching a little as she herself was tired enough to have still been alseep. However, she figured she'd eat something and then have a nap-her stomach was rather demanding at the moment and it wouldn't let her ignore its demands.

"I must remember to send my congratulations. I fear I have been rather lax in my social duties. I have been rather busy. I shall have Kaith relay my congratulations to her Queen." Christae's eyes went unfocused as she contacted her dragon. "That is, I will have her relay the congratulations when she wakes. She has already gone back to sleep." There was amused affection in the WW's voice.
"Yes, I do have a child of my own. He is about two and a half Turns old. He is a little Lordling in the Weyr. His name is Chiron. His father is a wingrider at Benden weyr. He transferred back there officially on the day of Kaith's last Hatching. He's a good child for all he likes to explore and vanish right under his sitters' noses. If you see a boy with light brown hair and brown eyes toddling away from a drudge that's probably him. I didn't foster him out but he is the Weyr's child. Everyone seems to wind up showing up to take him off for some thing or another when I need to do things. Uslanee, our Headwoman, has an army of drudges after him when I am leading the riders for Weyr drills. Thank Faranth she kept him from being underfoot when that dragon was scorched a sevenday or so ago. One of our greenriders emerged from *Between* flaming and caught one of her blue wingmates all along his side and charred a good part of his wing."
"Listen to me, filling your head with all manner of troubles when you just get here. Yes, the drudges make the sweet rolls early in the morning and they usually make enough for the meals but I think they are better right out of the oven and since I am usually up..." she paused. " I think I told you that already." She smiled tiredly.
