K'dan was setting by the lake, looking out over it. He always loved the sea and the lake was the closest he could get to it. He sighed as he pulled his knees to his chest and rested his arms on his knees and his chin on his arms. The waters were always a calming scene for him. He closed his eyes as he heard the wind lap over the lake and small waves in the water. Sharan was curled on a nearby rock and Hydrath was nearby sleeping as usual, the lazy blue. He really did miss all the time he spent with Nike in the past, some more intamate than others. He just wished to be a full rider and share a weyr with her. Do things together, fall asleep holding her. He loved her dearly and wanted to be with her but lately he just felt so unimportant compared to her. She was a master healer, weyrling rider of the second and first female white on Pern, she had been here a whole lot longer than him and was friends with alot of the older riders and they trusted her a great deal. What was he though? Just a weyrling rider of one of the smallest blue's in the weyr. He was often picked on about that too, though it hadn't really bothered him. He was constantly picked on all his life and made to feel unimportant. His boots were off and he watched as the waters lapped his feet. How could Nike love someone so unimportant? Especially since they didn't see each other nearly as often. K'dan must have been a bit depressed not being able to see her nearly as often. Being torn away from the one you love was one of the cruelest of fates. He looked over the waters, not saying a word.

Nike walked out of the Weyrling Barracks barefoot, sucking on the tip of her finger. Her ankle length skirt swished around her legs as she stopped suddenly, spotting K'dan. Since all of her footwear was being fixed, and she was getting a new pair of boots, she had nothing to wear but a pair of dress slippers. The Healer gave a smile, and walked quickly across the sands to the lake. Nike missed the time she spent with K'dan. She really did. The rider walked up from behind K'dan, and slid into the sand beside him. Nike arranged her skirt around her legs, then leaned against the blue rider. "I've missed you," She said, green eyes looking out across the lake.

He smiled as Nike slid next to him and it widened a bit when she leaned against him. He unfolded his legs from his chest and stretched them out. He put an arm around her and the other firmly planted into the sands of the lakeshore. "I have missed you as well, deathly so", he said.

Nike glanced up at K'dan, worried at first, then she smiled. "I won't let you die," She said. Her eyes closed, and she shifted her head on his shoulder a little. The Healer could tell that something was bothering him. But she was deciding if she should ask him or not. "Is something bothering you?" Nike asked, lifting her head so she could look at his face. Zim popped /between/ and fluttered over to Nike.

"You're a healer, of course you want", he said with a slight chuckle. He looked at her when she asked if something was bothering him. He remembered his conversation with Akki, her telling him Nike was the one he needed to talk to. "Lately......we have had less time with each other. Our punishment, our duties, recent events", he said to her. He paused for a moment then continued, "Nike I miss you. I love you so much and seeing less of you is hard for me. I want to be with you.....only you. You mean so much to me and i love you so much". He kissed her on the forehead and looked into her eyes.

Nike sighed, but smiled at K'dan. Sometimes, she wished everyone would get past the healer wall, and think of her as Nike. The person. Not Healer. Not dragon rider. But, she guessed it was the way things were. The rider blinked a few times, and turned her full attention back to K'dan. Her head was tilted to one side thoughtfully as she listened. "Yes, I agree with you K'dan. I guess if I hadn't gotten pregnant, we would see much more of eachother. I do miss you too, K'dan," She said after he was done. "I want to spend more time with you. But, I just can't seem to find any. With Healing duties, Weyr duties, and Ruanth. I have very little time for you, or even myself," She said, and kissed him. One arm wrapped lightly around his neck, the other hand holding his.

K'dan gave another sigh. "I have no regrets about that night, nor do I that we are going to have a baby. I just wish we could be together more. But you said it yourself, you don't have that much time for me", he said a bit depressed. He gave a thoughtful look out over the lake. "Do you think things will change when we are full dragonriders, no longer weyrlings? Will we have more time for each other then?", he asked hopefully as he turned back to face her. Hydrath opened an eye and watched the two from his sleeping position on the beach. He hoped the answer would be one his mine would want to hear. To Hydrath it seemed correct. As riders they could share a weyr together, no longer have lessons, and being that they lived in the same weyr they would definently see each other more often. It seemed right to him, but who knew. He waited for Nike's answer.

Nike looked away from K'dan. She did hope that they would have more time together, but something was troubling her. What was it? Was it that she was going to have a child? Why would that bother her? Nike had always wanted children. Many of them. The healer's dreams were that she would be deeply in love with her mate, and their dragons would love each other. But she was in love with K'dan. Mabey this love wasn't what she hoped it to be? Nike shook these thoughts from her head, and turned her attention back to K'dan. "When I was a full rider with Tirith, I was a Journeywoman Healer, learning my masters from the older master here. And even with that, Tirith, and chores, and still found much time for myself," she said, green eyes turned back to K'dan's. Nike looked deep into the blue rider's. "There is something else that bothers you?" She asked, K'dan's chin held firmly in her hand.

"Yes I suppose. I feel so unimportant. The weyr depends alot on you, they trust you so much. I just feel like a shadow. How can you love someone so unimportant? You still love me don't you", he asked her. He hoped she did. I mean she did tell him she did. They were mates, they had a child on the way. He loved her so much and couldn't imagine life without her, it would just rip him apart inside, eventually killing him. Nike. Never doubt K'dan loves you. He is just in a bit of a depressed mood right now. Hydrath spoke and hid his words from K'dan. He wanted Nike to know what his rider was feeling right now and how he always felt about her.

Nike's hand cupped K'dan's cheek and she looked deep into his eyes. "K'dan, please don't feel unimportant. You are a dragon rider! Any person of Pern would give anything to be in your position. You are one of the riders who will be needed to help defend Pern. I will only help. And yes, I may be a master healer, and the white rider of Pern, but I choose you! Out of all the riders here in the Weyr, I chose you. And you must remember that. I love you K'dan. I always will," Nike said passionately. Once her little speech was finished, the rider pressed her lips against K'dan's, and moved herself to his lap, arms wrapping around his neck. I love K'dan. And I will never doubt his love for me. Do not worry Hydrath.

K'dan smiled when she said she loved him, just the words he wanted to hear. He wrapped his arms around Nike when she moved to his lap and kissed back passionantly. He had missed this. His kiss deepened when he thought that. Good. I will be sure to remind K'dan then when he gets like this again. Hydrath was happy for his rider for he could feel the happiness and love coming from him now instead of that depressive state he was in. He himself was satisfied to know that Nike loved his rider.

Nike's eyes closed as she enjoyed every moment of the kiss. She hoped that no one would walk up on them and disturbe their time together. The healer did notice anything else but the kiss she shared with K'dan, and Hydrath's voice. Her skirt started riding up to her thighs as she pressed her lithe body against K'dan's. If you remember to, you silly dragon! Nike told the blue with a mental laugh and grin.

K'dan placed a hand on one of Nike's bare thighs and leaned back onto the lake shore, causing the skirt to ride up a bit more. The other arm wrapped around her back as the two kissed. K'dan's feelings of depression were swept away at that moment and all that existed was this moment, this wonderful moment with the woman he loved. His hand moved up her back in a caressing manner and went to stroking her hair as they kissed, his other hand remaining where it was on her thigh. Nike was laying on top of K'dan as the waters touched their toes. Hydrath simply snorted at the remark and said nothing further not wanting to interrupt the two.

Nike could feel the difference as she lay on top of K'dan. Even though her stomach hadn't grown much, she still felt different. Since her skirt was riding up, Nike imagened that her underwear could be seen. But since she had only seen K'dan in the Weyrbowl by the Lake, the healer had little worries. Her back tingled as he trailed his hand up and down it. Nike laughed at Hydrath.

K'dan's hand slipped a little higher on her thighs. He hadn't felt anything like this since their first time together. He pulled back from their kiss. "How you so easily change me from one mood to another. You definently know how to work me", he said to her with a smile and kissed her again. His hands remained where they were, one high on her thighs and the other stroking her hair lovingly. He had missed this so much, missed her so much.

Nike smiled down at K'dan, her finger tips brushing away the hair from his forehead. "It's a womanly talent," Nike said, then let her fingers run through his hair. Eyes closed, and body pressed against his. Of course, she could only think of what the two of them looked like. Oddly, Nike didn't care what people thought of them. She loved K'dan, and he loved her. What more was there to ask for?

"And one I don't mind", he said with a smile. He closed his eyes as he heard the sounds of the lake. "This reminds me a bit of our first time. I don't know if I could have loved you anymore than I did then. I think it was then my love for you grew three fold", he said sweetly. He nuzzled her as he allowed her to rest on him, just enjoying her near him, loving him. He could feel the waters edge touch his feet as he lay on the sands with Nike.

Nike sighed, closed her eyes, and rolled off of K'dan. The healer layed close by, but arranged her skirt so it fell below her knees. "Yes, but here there are many eyes, and gossping weyrfolk to spy in on you," She said with a bitter laugh. One of the most amazing this of Weyrlife, you were never bored. There was always a dragon to bathe, mouths to fill, and time to talk about the latest news of Pern, or the Weyr. Nike curled up beside K'dan and rested her head on his chest.

K'dan sighed, "Yeah I guess your right". His smile returned when she curled next to him and rested her head on his chest. "I'm so lucky to have you. I couldn't live if I lost you. You are my breath and my life", he said sweetly to her. He kissed the top of her head and stroked it. K'dan couldn't imagine his life before Nike, it seemed so empty and incomplete compared to now. He closed his eyes as the two rested with each other, facing towards the lake.

Nike smiled. "I think you are talking about Hydrath, dear. When he dies, you do too. And if I die, I thinkyou could walk past it," she said, snuggling closer for K'dan's warmth. Her hands were rested on his chest next to her head, and her legs were curled up and layed on his. "I am lucky to have you all. Dark Moon is the best family I have ever had," She said with a smiled.
