Lake Tyuru... It was definitely big, no doubt about it. The female grinned, sitting close to the edge of the water as she gazed out at it. She had taken a time-out from reading the History book that Dicer had lend to her and, what better place to relax that a lake? Olive green eyes swept through the surroundings, admiring the water and the surroundings before she focused on a specific angle. Grinning to herself she shifted her position to get the best view towards her desired angle, before the sketchpad was brought and rested on her lap, opened as the carbon pencil shifter in her hand. Once satisfied she begun to sketch the lake and the surrounding parts that she could see of vegetation. If she ever did failed to impress and had to leave the Weyr at least she'd have good memories of it. After all, hadn't her brother failed at his first Hatching? How could she be certain that the same wouldn't happen to her?
She shook her head slightly at the thought, a pale hand moving to push back strands of reddish orange hair behind her ears before she sighed. "Mmmm... I really should try to be more optimistic about all of this..." A loud thought spoken to herself, a habit of both her and her brother. His advice to her had been to always think of the best, to never doubt herself: Especially when the hatching time came. But... How could she not let her mind question herself? She just couldn't be as optimistic as him, the chance of failing was there. It was always there and ignoring it wouldn't mean it would go away.

Lucian paused to yawn a moment, hand raised to cover his mouth. Then with a little shake of his head the candidate continued on his way. It was really a very nice day. The sky was blue and bright while the golden suns rays gently beat down upon the world below. All was quiet except for the noise of the birds. It was nice and tranquil. Lucian loved it when it when the world was like this. In the candidatese barracks such peace was hard to find and he missed it somewhat. He had needed to get away from all the hustle and bustle of the Weyr so decided to find the Lake which he hadn't yet seen. The little escapade had resulted in Lucian getting a little lost once but eventually he found Lake Tyuru. Lucian walked over to the waters edge and gazed upon its crystiline surface, watching its gentle movements before he closed his eyes as a slight breeze ran across the waters surface and ruffled his blonde hair. Smiling, Lucian opened his eyes and turned to gaze at the Lakes surrounding. One thing that caught is eye was the girl with brightish hair. He hadn't known that anyone else was here but it wasn't all that surprising really. It was a beautiful place. Deciding to be friendly, Lucian wondered over to where Rizu sat. As he drew closer he heard her speak. "What should you try to be more optimistic about?" Lucian asked with a smile. His voice was soft sounding, as if he didn't talk much. "I personally find it hard not to be optimistic when sat by a lake looking at such beauty."

Her sketching had proceeded as normal, glancing between paper and carbon to the real lake and its surroundings, then back to the paper once more. Sketching was something that soothed her, it calmed her thoughts and nerves. And it seemed to make it easier for her to be surprised by others as well. Especially when you end up receiving a response to your own voiced thoughts when no one is supposed to be there... Or at least when you think no one is supposed to be there. Jumping slightly, the girl turned her gaze from the sketch and the lake to Lucian. Seeing it was but another Candidate she relaxed slightly, sighing in relief before listening to his words. True, the lake really raised ones spirits, it was a marvelous place after all, but it didn't answer the questions in her head. Well, no one could answer it really.
“About the Hatching, I should try to be more optimistic about it. But who are you anyway?”
Her voice was fairly normal, a hint of curiosity stitched in to her words. She hadn't met many f the Candidates, only Anassa and Dicer, and so she was naturally curious as to who this one was. As Candidates they would be spending lots of time in chores and, if they all impressed, more time in Weyrling training. So she might as well get to know a few of them now, when the chores weren't so long and frequent.

Lucian smilied a little more as he saw Rizu jump. He hadn't meant to surprise her. But then again she had been absorbed in her drawing so what had he expected. It was much the same with him when he was whitling. He was easily spooked then. It seemed like most people were talking about the hatching. Lucian was a little uneasy about it but quietly confident. So what if he hadn't impressed first time. He still had time after this hatching to try again. "Everyone has worries about hatchings, no matter how optimistic they may seem. Just don't let it get you down." Lucian said with another smile before realising that he hadn't introduced himself. With a deep bow he said "Oh do forgive me.I am Lucian, a candidate at this Dark Moon. And who are you, my dear lady?"

The female listened to his advice before nodding slightly, a faint smile tugging at her lips. So far the Candidates she had met had been people with whom she felt comfortable around and she was glad about it... This whole Weyr was so different from Lemas Hold. As he introduced himself and asked for her name the girl couldn't help but giggle slightly. She found him funny, in a good way. “I'm Rizu, also a Candidate for Dark Moon. 'Tis a pleasure to meet you, Lucian. Have you been in this Weyr for a long time? Me and my brother arrived just about a sevenday ago or so.” Patiently she waited for a reply, her hands resting on the sketchpad for now as her fingers played with the carbon pencil.

Lucian sat down beside Rizu and took one of her hands which she had resting on the sketchpad. Gently, he kissed the back of her hand before looking into her eyes and saying: "It's a great pleasure to meet you Miss Rizu." A small part of him wondered if she would giggle again. He found amusing in a way. A lot of girls reacted in the same sort of way, as if they weren't used to be spoken to in such a way. Well most of them weren't used to it. Lucian guessed it was one of the things that made him different from other guys. "I haven't been here long really. A couple of sevendays max. Though this is my first one on one conversation with anyones... I normally keep to myself." Lucian said "So where do you and your brother come from?"

Now there was something she would have never expected. No days almost none of the boys greeted the females in such away – at least not the ones in Lemas Hold. With her surprise came a faint blush, one that faded away just as quickly as a smile replaced it instead. Lucian was quite the gentleman, polite and the exact opposite of the boys at her hold. “We come from Lemas Hold, from Benden. What about you?” Came her reply, olive eyes watching Lucian. So they were both fairly new to this place, that was a comforting thought. Being new to a place always made her nervous, it was easier when you knew you and your brother weren't the only new faces around.

Lucian couldn't help but smile as he noticed Rizu blush slightly. With him around she would become used to it for it was simply the way he was. Even if most other seventeen turn olds weren't. Though he had gotten into trouble for it before. Some of the candidates at his old Weyr thought he was doing it to show them up... "Originally I come from Tillek hold and stayed at High Reaches Weyr for a bit, I was a candidate also there." He told her cheerfully. "I take it this will be your first time at a hatching? I've stood before. It's not really all that bad."

So he'd been a candidate before, just like her brother. Interesting. She nodded to his question, grinning slightly. "Yup, first time in the Hatching Sands for me. Guess that's why I'm really nervous about the whole thing. My brother also stood for a Hatching before this one, about two turns ago. He got searched for one in Benden Weyr but failed to impress there. So he came back home and told me and mom about how the Weyr and the dragons were. And now he got searched again to stand for this Hatching, only this time I got searched as well. He says the Hatchings aren't something that I should worry about. Only that I need to be careful when it comes because the dragons sometimes maul the candidates."

"I never returned home after the hatching." Lucian told Rizu as he lent back, resting on his arms which he had placed behind him as he stretched his legs out before him. "I stayed at the Weyr, waiting for the next hatching. I came here though to wait for the next hatching. I had a little trouble with some of the other candidates. Plus there arn't many candidates here and the next hatching will be sooner." Placing most of his weight on one hand, Lucian brought his other up and ran his fingers through his dark blonde hair. The sun was already starting to bleach it. Oh well.

He never returned back to his home? The female pondered the matter over in her mind, what if her brother had decided to never return as well? It was a thought that shook her, after the lost of her father the only one she ever had a close relation-bond to was her brother. Sure, she loved her mother but they just never had that strong family bond. Who knows why, they just didn't. Ah well, what mattered was that Sauke had returned, and now they were both here in Dark Moon Weyr awaiting the Hatching that would soon come. Shifting to sit now indian style the female's gaze returned from the lake back at Lucian. He'd gotten in trouble with the other candidates? But how? He seemed so polite and well behaved. "You got into trouble with the other candidates? How come? You don't seem like the type that would usually get into trouble."

"I don't usually get into trouble. I think that was one of the things that got me into trouble." Lucian said, grimicing slightly at the memories. "The other guys seemed to think the way I am was just an act to show them up..." He had gotten beaten more then once for that. Of couse the Candidate master didn't stand for that and punished the boys but in the end it ended up being simpler to remove Lucian from the equation. "You see, I got on well with the girls and with the riders at the Weyr. I was polite usually, did what I was told and was never late. Things they rarely were and they didn't like it." Lucian shrugged. "I couldn't go home, not without impressing first. I would never here the end of it from my brothers. So my moving here was the best solution. I like it better here anyway. It's much quieter..."

She listened with interest as he spoke, nodding slightly. "I see... So you got in trouble with the other boys for doing things they should also learn to do. Understandable. Must boys are just wherry brains in a human body, so when another actually does things right they take it as an offense. That was quite typical from where I come. They were all a bunch of wherry heads with no brains." Indeed, the ones at Lemas Hold from her childhood were nothing but annoying brats set on picking on her since she was one of the smallest around. If it weren't for her brother the female wasn't sure of what she would have done.As he mentioned his family and how he could not leave without impressing the female blinked. "Are all your brothers dragon riders? And I agree with you, this place is quite nice and peaceful."

Lucian stretched a little before answering Rizu's question. "I have two older brothers, neither of them are riders though. I used to idolise my eldest brother, until he started being really mean that is. I was picked to be a candidate and they weren't so I presume that they are jelous. When I wrote home about the last hatching, all I got i nreturn was a note from my brother saying how he hadn't expected any better and how I'll never be a rider. Well I'll just have to prove him wrong." That was one thing Lucian was determined about. Generally he was quite laid back but he had to show that he could do it. Plus he really wanted to become a rider. "This place is wonderfully quite. I think I'll come here more often. The Weyr itself is a bit quiter too. Which is somewhat nice also."

"Ouch... I'm lucky my brother was never like that with me. We've always been pretty close and there for one another. Especially when I was little. Let's just say that the color of my hair and the fact I was so small when little made me an easy target to be picked at by the boys in my Hold. Sauke was usually the one defending me from them and when I started drawing he encouraged me to continue getting better at it." She smiled slightly at the memories, indeed she was lucky to have a brother such as Sauke. Even if he did play his own share of pranks on her whenever she had needed him he was there... Until he had been searched and took to Benden Weyr for a Hatching. That had to be the hardest time for her, she'd grown so use to always having him than when he left everything seemed to hit her. For her delight he had returned back home, cheerful even after not impressing, and this time thye had both ben searched. Only one thing worried her now here. What if he impressed and she didn't? What if one of them never managed to impress a dragonet? What then? Lucian's comment made her come back from her own little spaced out world and back to reality, nodding to the lad before smiling slightly. "I agree, I like this Weyr a lot. And the people I've met so far are all nice, both Riders, Canidates and Ruanth."

"Oh my brothers were nice enough to me when I was at home. Well my younger elder brother was. And if I ever needed him then my eldest brother would help me. Neither of them could stand others picking on me. Though that wouldn't stop them." Lucian said with a smile. A few people had been hit for picking on Lucian. Out of his brothers he was always the smallest. And his blonde hair and blue eyes made him stand out from the rest of his family. His brothers would tease him about it but there was no real harm in it. "It's good you and your brother get on so well. I should meet him sometime." It was likely to happen as they were bother in the barracks. "And I like your hair colour. It's not particularily common. And can I see your drawing?" He asked. Personally, Lucian couldn't draw to save his life but he could whitle quite well though.

"Well, just because they defend you doesn't mean the won't pick on you I guess." The female grinned, knowing this quite well. After all, that was the job of the older brothers: pick on the younger ones in harmless coments. Right? At his comment about the hair the female blinked before nodding slightly, managing to supress a small blush from appearing in her cheecks before she handed over the sketchpad to the other candidate. He seemed nice enough, sharing her drawings with her would probably be a good idea. And the pad had quite the collection of sketches, from dragons at the hold to fire lizards and the currently half finishedsketch of the lake. She'd finish it on another time, after all she wasn't going to leave the Weyr anytime soon.

"Too true. It would probably be the same with me if I had any younger siblings. Look after them but wind them up a little." Lucain said with a smile. Though it seemed unlikely that he would have any more siblings so he would have to wait for nieces and nephews, or even children of his own one day to wind up and care for. He took Rizu's sketch pad and looked at the half finished one at the top, the one of the lake. It was really very good. Well it looked like it would be good when it was finished. He flipped through the other pages, looking at each in turn. Risu seemed to have an eye for detail and a talent for drawing. Lucain was impressed. But he always was impressed by peoples talents. "These are all really good Rizu. How long have you been drawing?" He asked.

The girl chuckled at his comment nodding slightly. He was probably right, had she had any younger siblings she wouldn't have doubt she would have done the same. As Lucian went through the sketches Rizu focused more on looking out at the lake. It was really a breath taking sight indeed. Once more the red-head's gaze turned to look back at the other candidate, watching as he flipped through the pages an observed the drawings before he finally finished, seeming impress/ At the compliment she grinned, nodding slightly before answering his question. "I've been drawing since I was eight turns old. At first they were really crappy, you can't expect much from a child, but as I went on practicing they got better and better. After all, practice makes perfection."
