Nike gave an odd looked to Rhia. "Yes, but well..." How could she break the news to the two. "Rhia, at this stage, just flying could kill the babes inside." The last time Rhia was in for a check-up, Nike noticed the two heatbeats, and all the other signs that told a Healer that a woman had twins. Thank you Mneith, I know Rhia will listen to you. The healer told the brown.

Rhia caught Nike's odd look but brushed it off until she heard what the Healer had to say. She looked at Nike, raising her eyebrows. "Nike, did I hear you correctly? Did I hear you say babies? Plural?" She started to comment on Nike's grammar but then stopped. It clicked just then. She was twice the size of Christae even though they had both gotten pregnant on the same day.
"I am having twins aren't I?" Rhia paled. Her mother had told Rhia that she had a twin brother that had died at birth. Rhia's grandmother had died giving birth to Rhia's mother and her twin brother. She had heard that many women died during childbirth with twins.

Nike nodded gravely. "Yes, you are going to have twins. That is why I don't want you to fly. We want both of them to live. Few women have both twins that survive. The ones who do, well sometimes die." She said, then added quickly, "But I learned a new way to deliver without you dying. But You will have to let me cut you open." Nike said looked straight at Rhia. Almost everyone on Pern was against being cut open, even though it saved lives.
Just the other day in the Weyr, a man had died because of appendicitis, and he wouldn't let Nike take it out. She shook her head. Just a little cut, snip, then stich it up, and then it was done. Well, easy for the other Healers. They didn't have to do it. But still, it was one of the easiest ones to proform. Rhia had to say yes, or she might die, or loose not one, but both of the babes.

"We are having twins? That's great. I mean my family doesn't have a history of twins and I might be the first in my family to have twins", he said excitedly. He thought back to his younger brother and the few times they did things together. Infact father had just started training him when G'han was learning to use a staff. Sometimes the two would train together for warm up, though that didn't last long with their dissapearing and all. He sighed missing his family. If only he knew atleast that one of them had survived.

Rhia shuddered. "Cut me open?" She shook her head vehemently, taking a step backwards. "Why would you have to do that?"
"G'han you are dim." She snapped at her weyrmate. "Twins are NOT a good thing. I don't think you were listening to what Nike said."

Nike sighed, then looked down to the ground. "If you want to live, and have your children live, it is the only way. Unless, you would prefer to loose both of your babes, and your own life. That would mean, four deaths, because Mneith would go /between/ as soon as you would die." She said looked back up, her eyes flashing and her voice strong. Ruanth turned to Aureth. Hello. She said walked over to him. What are they talking about?

Rhia's eyes widened with horror. She wrapped her arms protectively over her bulging stomach, as if that act could protect the life inside. She looked over at Mneith and then back to Nike. "I will do whatever it takes." She said softly.

"I knew you would pick the right one." Nike said resting her hand on Rhia's shoulder. "I have doen this many times, just that last birth of one of the green riders was done by a C-section. She live and had a wonderful little girl." The Healer took her hand off the brown rider's shoulder then walked over to D'ran and sighed.

Rhia nodded. "Only because I trust you Nike." She said. She inclined her head towards the newest arrival. "Good day to you." She walked slowly away from the group and headed towards her own weyr. Mneith followed, looking ungainly on the ground.

D'ran frowned when Rhia began to walk away. "You are a wonderful healer, I am sure she and her two children will come out alive," he said. The Harper put a comforting hand on Nike's shoulder and squeezed it gently. He looked to the new Candidate. "Probably not the first thing you want to hear at a new Weyr, eh?"
Aureth looked quizically up at the people and then dow at Ruanth. He was considerably larger by now but still not that large of a dragon. [glow=blue,2,300]I really don't understand. Rhia is worried because she will be having two but this doesn't seem serious at all. Kaith had many more and she was perfectly fine.[/glow]D'ran sighed and rolled his eyes to his dragon's comment. He figured Ruanth would set him straight, perhaps. She was a White which a smart color and her bonded was a Healer.

G'han gritted his teeth when Rhia called him dim. He didn't know that much about having twins and the effects of it. Most woman around his hold never had twins and he never actually heard of a case of one of them having twins. He was horrified to hear Rhia or the babies might die. He eased away from the weyrbowl as Gerenanth followed. He slipped away unnoticed and hopped on Gerenanth and flew somewhere to have some time to himself to think about these things. He knew his weyrmate was strong and resiliant and he did trust the healers there, Nike in particular but the thought of loosing her.....again. It was something he had to think through. Gerenanth landed and G'han sat under a tree to think. Gerenanth comforted his rider, letting him know Rhia and the babies would live.
