This is something I actually wrote some long time ago. I felt like placing it here. XD
Multi-faceted eyes opened sharply, the pools of colors inside them whirling faster and faster as the Rukbat’s sun slowly rises, illuminating all the face of Pern that faced its direction. Reds and oranges whirling among the colors, hints of yellows and purple not short behind. Quickly the pair of golden wings settled on the creature’s back opened widely, stretching slightly before catching a morning gust of wind, gliding down to the lake below these high cliffs.
Below on the moist earth were already gathered more of this magnificent creatures. Greens and Blues fled to the vegetation, feeling safer and also finding a good point to watch, while Browns and Bronzed ones remained on the edge of the water, multiple bodies of blooded fish lying among them, ones that would soon be consumed by the Greens and Blues who patiently waited.
Reaching the water she bulges her challenge, yellow hide gleaming slightly before soon a fish was snared in her sharp claws. Talons gripped the slippery food tightly, penetrating the scaled body of the packtail before it was thrown to the shore, the golden creature landing besides it. Maw reached for the succulent morsel, draining the blood out of it before the cycle was repeated again with yet another packtail.
After moments four more corpses had joined the others on the shore, the Gold’s hide gleaming strongly as it seemed to glow, the morning rays of sunlight bouncing off from it to add more beauty to the creature. Massive set of wings, considering the size of the fire lizard, opened, catching a small breeze as her pillars pushed her up and into the air. Soon a thermal was caught, raising her higher and higher, the Bronze and Brown suitors close behind.
Bulges and creels went about among the males, threatening one another, all their eyes fixed on the golden prize flying in front of them. While some tried to snare her by force others tried to charm her with soft croons and trills, the Gold diving and rising, spiraling and circling in the air in her Flight. None were stronger than her, none!
Little by little some dropped out, soon two Bronze flitts and a Brown fire lizard remaining in the chase. The last couldn’t hang on any longer, and soon joined the others below, leaving the two Bronzed ones to fight for their beautiful Queen. While the first one attempted to snare her again and entwine his neck and tail with hers the other continued with soft croons and thrills to his beloved Gold.
In the end the choice was made, the first being rejected as the Gold hovered close to the other Bronze, allowing body and mind to entwine together as the flew through the lake, the male keeping his golden mate in the air…. It didn’t took long… Sevendays later a clutch lying inside one of the many small holes in the rocky cliff. Days, weeks and months passed, the mother protecting her clutch fiercely while her mate helped, bringing food to his Golden beauty. In her forearms lied a golden egg, the future small Queen developing inside.
And finally the day came, Green, Blue, Brown, Bronze and Gold united to greet the new ones that had begun to be born. Food was brought and placed down for them as a low humming tune echoed throughout the small cave, their welcoming to the new world. Hatchlings of all colors were there now, hides gleaming with birth fluids as they gobbled down the morsels set for them.
And finally the golden shell begun to crack, a fine snout popping out and taking the first gulp of air, encouraging the hatchling to rip her prison open and gaze at the outside world. Another Gold had been born, another Fire lizard Queen now stood, soon gobbling up food to cease the increasing pain in her stomach. And life continued, the same cycle waiting to be repeated all over again in an endless pattern till Threadfall comes…
