Kadan looked to the other male candidate there and said, "So what is your name? I would like to get to know all my fellow candidates". He stood next to him so he could talk with him.
...............................
G'han's attention was caught when Christae mentioned the unhealthy egg. "So do you know for sure it's not healthy. I mean I hate to second guess you but I am a cautious person. What if it turns out to be alright and we just writed it off as doomed and didn't give it a chance", he said to her.

Kia felt her face line with the slight anger bubbling within. Like Kaden said, it could be healthy. Some things were not even given a second chance and weren't even cared about because of one or two factors. So what if it was small, what did it matter? A beautiful dragon could come from it. She looked up at the glistening and facinating yet dangerous dragon who stood before her. Her face, teeth and eyes were just daring her to come forward. Tokagae took off from Kia's sholder, tired from his fly. He flew to their Weyr and curled up on the bed, falling asleep soon enough. Kia rolled her shoulder, relieved from the lifted weight. A flitt doesn't way much but Tokagae was pretty big and he was on her shoulder for a while. She massaged her shoulder a little and then stood, a little bluntly.
Kia glanced at the people around her, wondering if she shold talk. She often seemed like a happy-go-lucky, carefree person but some things really touched her heart. Her shadow of a smile lowered into a straight line and her face was emotionless. If their ever was a need for a very close friend now was the time. She loved to be able to laugh with her friends but sometimes she would just think. She would just think when there was nothing to distract her. The eggs were beautiful, sure, but didn't cloud her troubled mind.
Kia watched Kaith's eyes vary in color. She remembered times when the Gold's eyes were all diffrent colors. Kia thought back, looking to see at what times each color was. She wanted to know what each color meant. Some were obvious while others- not so much. She though how absure her thoughts were. She remembered what she stareded thinking of and how her thoughts varied. Her face wrinkled, creased with aggravation.
She brushed the sand that had gotten on her annoying green dress, poofing at the bottom. She tried to flatten it but it was made to stay poofed and she had no such luck. Her eyes were a light blue, a little grey seeping in the coloring. She watched the eggs as they seemed to be sinking. It looked they were falling into bottomless quicksand and would never return, it sould seem that way for so many. No hope to return. Kia thought of what happened in her past and just how much worse it could have been.

V'lar was lisenting closly to the candidates and walked up to one they called, Kia. "Are you okay?" asked V'lar. He just stared at her like a statue. "My name is V'lar by the way!" said V'lar.

"Kia." Christae's voice was stern, a hard glint in her eyes. "What I said was meant for the Dragonrdiers, NOT for the Candidates, thus the reason for my lowering my voice. What I said was not for your ears and had better not pass your lips." She glared at the young girl, every bit as intimidating as her Queen.
Kaith looked satisfied when Kaz retreated and she withdrew, hovering over her eggs with a possessive air. The large Queen's eyes slowed for a while until her rider became angry with the young candidate. Her eyes whirled with anger when she felt her rider's temper.
"I do not know for sure if the egg will hatch and I am tired of people biting my head off about it. I know that most eggs like that never hatch. It has been recorded. There is nothing wrong will small eggs, or grey ones for that matter, but the fact is that Kaith set it aside. Dragon Queens know instinctively when there is something wrong with an egg. That fact can't be helped but it doesn't pay for us to get our hopes up about a tiny egg that probably holds a deformed dragonet or one that will die anyway. I was just informing you of the possibility that it might not hatch or if it does the creature might die."

Sh'iron nodded. "THat's true. So don't be surprised if it doesn't hatch. All Queens have atleast one egg in their lifetime of clutching that doesn't hatch." The Weyrleader looked at the small egg then back to the Queen egg.

Christae gave Sh'iron a quick smile, grateful for his support. "I just wish it wouldn't have been for her first clutch." She told him in an undertone.
Kaith slowly calmed down and then crouched back to the ground, pushing the sand around her gleaming golden egg and then carefully shifting some of the hardening eggs into different positions. It would only be a sevenday or so before the eggs were hard enough to touch, and then......the hatching.

As Kaith looked at her Kia was almost certain she felt the warm breath coming from the Queen's nostrils. The two looked angrily at her, synchronized. Her fists clutched into fists and she felt the drips of sweat on her palms from the sands. She glared at Christae but her hair blocked Christae's knowing. She restrained herself and stood up straight. With a quick nod to V'lar she walked away and went to her barracks.
Kia barely stopped herself from sitting on her flitt, who snoozed on the bed. She gently moved her to his "bed" in the drawrer and sat on her bed, glaring at the ceiling.

V'lar followed Kia to make sure she was okay. "Kia, are you sure you are okay?" asked V'lar as he stood by her door. "The Weyrwoman didn't mean to offend you that way, I'm sure she didn't and if she did, shame on her." said V'lar.

Kia looked up at V'lar, suprised he had followed her. "I'm fine," she said bluntly and quietly added, "Thanks for caring."
Of course, Christae was not a mean person. By all means, Christae was very nive and equal to all. She had a Queen and was still down to earth, so to speak. Kia was just sick of being shunned like she had been her whole life. It was hard, maybe not as tragic as the lives of others but everyone holds pain. It comes in all shapes and sizes and no matter how happy you pretend you are, it hurts. To some it hurts more and some are easier to hurt. Kia, for one, wasn't one to show she was hurt, or at least she wasn't before. It just would build and build behind her fake smile and it had become too much to bear. Kia needed a good cry but she was too- vain, if you will. To others she was the happiest person and she could be if she would let herself cry sometimes.

"Well I'm just glad you are okay, are you a candidate for the upcoming clutch?" asked V'lar. "You seem like you need some more friends here, me too." said V'lar. "If you ever need a friend I'm here to be taken!" said V'lar as he laughed.

Kazrael cast a nervous smile at the other male candidate. There were so many social people here...He found it rather daunting, but he as that was hardly the sort of thing one declared to new aquaintances, he inclined his head. "I'm Kazrael," the youth stated quietly. "You?" A typical response from this young man. He darted a glance to the Queen from under half-lidded eyes. She seemed...rather pleased that he had stepped back, and he felt a surge of relief sweep over him. As long as she wasn't angered by his daring to take that step too clsoe to her precious clutch...all was well.
A breath escaped him as he stood, and his gaze darted towards the knot of riders speaking by the dais. The youth strained his ears, curious, but after a moment, decided against it. The Weyrwoman did not seem overly happy as the girl who had introduced herself as Kia spoke, and he involuntarily stepped backwards in faint alarm. Whatever was going on, Kaz did not want to be a part of it. Dark green gaze flickering at those out of his hearing range, he couldn't resist watching the tableau unfold; resulting in the Candidate's departure. Breath held, his gaze darted to the smallest egg, the one they seemed to be speaking of. It looked tiny, but...not much different from the other ones, he decided confidently.

Kia took a deep breath and stood up. "I have a few close friends here and the others are just acquaintances," she said. She took a step out and motioned for him to follow. As they walked to the hatching sands she told him, "I am a candidate here. I actually think I came just a little after a hatching so I have been here for a while,"
ooc|| I am going to maki Kia 14 and have her birthday soon so she will turn 15, ok? I'm also going to make a spot for Kia to get Searched. I made a random Hold, though, because at the time I had not read the book, remember and no one objected. I'm glad I'm reading the book now, -.^;

"Well that's good, it's always good to have some friends around." said V'lar. She motioned him to follow and he agreed and followed her to the hatching sands. "So, I've been here for like a week, I know, not a lot." said V'lar.

"Umm..." Kazrael nodded, with a weak smile for the other candidate as he introduced himself as Kadan. "My pleasure..." He trailed off, inclining his head again, and thought. He was supposed to continue the conversation, but he had no idea what to say. The other young man, however, solved that dilemma with another remark, after a brief moment of silence. "I'm not sure," he replied after a pause, with some surprise evident in his tone. "I just hope to Impress, really. If I do, I'll be happy." A smile, this time real, flickered across his solemn features. "What about you? Most Candidates I've met before have preferences."
It was another of the longest phrases that Kaz had ever spoken. This Weyr really was getting to him, already. He glanced towards the entrance to the Sands, half expecting Kia and the bronzerider to reappear, but as neither the candidate nor the other did, he shrugged it off, with a glance for Christae and the others. This was one of the most...different Weyrs he had ever been in. And from what he had seen, Kaz liked it. He pushed a lock of shaggy brown hair away.

Kia turned to the the Hatching Sands and stood near a wall, a bit aways from Christae. She wasn't mad but would perfer to avoid confrontation. She tried to remember what day it was, her birthday was coming up. She smiled at the thought of her first birthday at the Weyr. She would be turning 15 and it seemed like she was so young.

((Blah...short post-ness. But I couldn't resist ano'er one.))
Kazrael glanced over, as he saw movement from the corner of his gaze, and realized that Kia had re-entered. Briefly, he nodded; one of the most normal things he'd done. After all, Kaz wasn't social, so that he should have actually shown a gesture of courtesy to a near-stranger was amazing. His gaze darted towards the eggs again, this time drifting slowly over each one longignly, absorbing each detail. He wanted, so badly, to Impress this time. And it wasn't just because he had failed before. It was that...he was coming to realize, that he didn't want to leave this weyr.
