Tekara and her beloved Tekask had traveled many miles to get where they were now. Tekask had hatched in the Northern Continent, but now the wher Queen was getting ready to lay her eggs far to the south in the Southern Continent.
Tekara had received a request to move to Dark Moon Weyr to lay her clutch. The Wher-hold at Caspian was temporarily moving to Dark Moon, at least most of them. A wher or two was staying at Caspian, but the rest were moving to Dark Moon to help protect the weyr and for the weyr to help protect the whers.
Whers were the nighttime guardians of Pern and dragons were the daytime guardians.
Tekask had just arrived at Caspian the day before, and she had ran for her maiden mating run. Now, the Queen wher hadn't even had time to settle into the specially prepared den before she was forced to seek the warm sands of the Weyr's Hatching Grounds. She was a large beast, but the giant dragon Queen that used these sands dwarfed her.
The birthing pangs hit her not long after her handler had unloaded her things from the Queen's back.
I clutch.
A few minutes after Tekask had gotten to the sands and built a mound, the first egg was laid. These eggs were lumpier than the dragon eggs, and despite their bright colors, they were not really a spectacular sight like Kaith's eggs were.
This one was different shades of green with yellow marks splashed upon it's surface in almost zig-zag patterns. It would be one of the smallest eggs the Queen would lay in this clutch, if not the smallest. The egg was spring-like and bright to the touch, as if the occupant was of a sunny disposition and quite brightly happy.
