The Hurricane Hatching Weyrlings were working on their lessons. They'd be breaking soon to allow their dragons to rest and recuperate some more from the previous day's excitement.
For now though, they were on their own under the watchful eye of some of the other adult dragonriders. She had Mneith call out the Transfer Clutch Weyrlings so that they could start their own lessons.
Today they'd be working on guiding each other mentally. Dragon and rider would each take turns blindfolded. Riders would lead their dragon by mental command alone, and dragons would follow the rider's lead.
Then the pairs would switch. Once this was down, the pairs would rely on the instructions of another dragon pair. Sometimes emergencies would happen during threadfall and if something happened to the sight of one of the pairs, the other needed to lead.
This exercise would also strengthen the bond between the lifemates that would be crucial for survival.
They had already gone through dragon anatomy classes and basic care. They had had their share of making numbweed and basic first aid.
Their classes in history and politics would continue in the afternoon. All of the Weyrlings would be taught to read and write because some of the lessons couldn't be taught until the dragons could fly and the lessons they could cover with grounded dragons wouldn't stretch the full time. Once the dragons could fly, that would be another story, so Rhia was taking advantage of the time they had with flightless dragons while she could.
For now, she waited, a set of blindfolds spread out on a tall boulder near her. She had an extra-large one for Mneith. This would likely be funny. She also had a first aid kit...just in case.
She thought for a moment, and then decided to make her life easier. The newly hatched needed to work on bonding too. She might as well get them to do the same drills. The older dragons would have more intricate courses to follow.
While she waited, she set out more markers and went for her pack for another rag shirt to makre more blindfolds, humming happily.
