It had been busy for Caspian Hold, especially the last couple of Sevendays. Terwin had been doing the best he could to keep things under control while the Lord Holder was out – attending the Hatching at Dark Moon and other events that called for his appearance. Thankfully the man was back now and Terwin could relax – even if it was just ever so slightly. There was still work to do, he understood that. The Wher Hall had grown significantly during Lord Bynor’s absence, there was now a total of four wherhandlers. Terwin had ventured down there a few times but had not yet actually met any of the handlers. This seemed to be the opportune time.
The Lord Holder had also not been able to meet and greet them, hopefully now he would manage to do so. Terwin was about to find out. He strode through the corridors of the Hold with a purpose, his right hand clutching some parchment that had a few notes about the Wher Hall. It seemed a woman named Danae was the one that they should be greeting; she was the gold Handler after all. He nodded to the people he walked by, sometimes flashing them a quick smile. Or a disapproving frown when they were just dilly dallying. So much to be done, so little time. He approached the kitchens, searching the tables.
Last he heard Lord Bynor was enjoying some freshly made meat rolls. Hopefully this rumor was true, he didn’t really feel like wasting any more time to search for the man.

Bynor was, infact, enjoying some freshly made meat rolls. He was chewing on a bite as Terwin entered. He peered over his shoulder to see the man enter and swallowed the bite he was chewing on. "Terwin my good man. So good to see you", Lord Bynor spoke politely with a kind smile. Bynor was one to be kind to anyone he encountered. It was rare that anyone ever got on his bad side.
He looked over at what he was carrying and smiled again. "Came to give me some more work I see", the man joked, but there was nothing hostile or negative in his tone. Quite the contrary, Bynor was not opposed to doing his job and the work it required. Infact Bynor wanted to make sure he did it all right.

Bynor’s voice rang out before Terwin’s eyes could even settle on him. So the drudge was right, he was here. He’d have to thank the girl later on – she saved him from wasting time. “It’s been a while, Lord Bynor.” Terwin replied, bowing his head slightly to the man. He straightened himself and walked over to his side.
He glanced down at the parchment in his hand, “These notes are mine but I am here to give you more work I’m afraid, sir.” He had been the advisor to Bynor for three turns now, and probably could be more or less considered friends. However Terwin always called the man by some title of respect whether it be ‘Sir’ or his actual title of ‘Lord Holder’. Terwin knew his place, he was not equal to Bynor – he was simply the right hand man. He took a seat across from the man, glancing down at the plate of meat rolls. He was tempted to take one but he wasn’t hungry so that would seem rather pointless. “You’ve missed a fair bit while out on business. I thought I should inform you that Wher Hall has grown rapidly. There’s a total of four Wher Handlers. I thought it would be appropriate for you to meet the Gold handler, Danae.”
While talking, he had opened the parchment to scan over it – details of the Hall and its occupants. He folded it back up, raising his head to make eye contact with the man. “Is that alright with you, sir? I’m sure it would be alright to visit another time if you are currently busy.”

"Yes, I'm sure it has. Dark Moon weyr has been keeping me on my toes lately", the Lord Holder replied kindly as he took another piece of meatroll and chewed it. There may be business to attend to, but if Bynor never stopped to eat while there was business about then he'd die from starvation. "A decent turn out at their latest hatching, the transfer clutch will do wonders for them with such lovely dragonets that came from it", Bynor continued his talk of his latest trip to the weyr.
Bynor, unlike some Lord Holders, fell into line when it came to supporting the weyr. But it was all part of the man's nature, duty and good spirit. Bynor looked up from his meatroll and back to his advisor. "Oh? Well that's very good news. I'll certainly have to make a point to meet them", Bynor responded to his advisor, really wanting to meet all the wherhandlers. "It's no problem at all. I can meet her now if you like", Bynor waved off the idea of meeting her later. Bynor would be more than pleased to meet her right at this very moment. He was a man who was dedicated to his work, and the people around him.

Terwin bobbed his head up and down as Bynor talked about the Weyr. “I’m glad to hear that the Transfer clutch went well.” Terwin had no need to visit the Weyr, he never did. He preferred spending his time at Caspian where he knew the people rather than go to some place where everything was unknown. Truthfully, Terwin wasn’t quite sure what he thought of Dark Moon Weyr and it’s riders. Or any riders for that matter. He knew quite a few other Holds had stopped tithing to the Weyr, believing that riders were pointless now that Thread was gone. He might have thought that way a little more publicly if Caspian had done that, but Lord Bynor remained loyal to them so he must also.
“I’m sure they would be happy to meet you too.” Terwin replied, watching as the man continued to eat. The Wherhandlers would hopefully make Caspian Hold even more prosperous, and Terwin could only hope that they and Lord Bynor would get along. “That would be quite ideal, sir. The sooner the better I believe.” He nodded once again. He pushed his chair back and stood up, “Please sir, if you are done with your meat rolls, if you would follow me to the Wher Hall? Hopefully Miss Danae will be there so you can formally meet and greet her.”

((I hope you don’t mind me embellishing a few parts of this, eg. The time, and the fact that they perhaps contacted her prior? Like, just sent a flit or something – otherwise she’d probably be in bed x.x and that’s a Danae you dun wanna meex XD))
It was around midday, lunch time for most of the turfsiders, and lightwalkers. For Danae? It meant she had been asleep, for roughly four hours. She was, heavily asleep. Danae liked her sleep, and she hadn’t slept particularly well outside of her own bed, adverse to change as she was. Thus, now she was making up for it.
But disturbance came in the form of a flitter, and a rising growl from her wher. Danask had no time for flitters, despite their use. It was part of what kept Danae from getting one of these incredibly useful creatures. The only flitter she ever seen was her friends green, who delivered messages too and fro from them. He was a turfsider, so, he did keep daylight hours, and it meant that she did usually get messages whilst she slept but, the flitter had become quite well trained to leave the message on her desk, and then leave. This was obviously something more important. The bronzen flitt circled high in the main part of the digs, circling over Danask who’s irritation was growing. It was the flitters creels in combination with the rising grown from her own gold that had disturbed her.
She walked out to the main part of the dig, naught but her underwear on, hair scruffed and messed to the side. She calmed Danask as well as a sleepy mind might, and called the flitter to her.
The little bronze only stayed long enough to give her the message, obviously no response was necessary, which gave her a feeling of imposing doom. Unrolling the message she read, that the lord holder and his highest advisor were coming to pay a visit. Immediately.
She groaned. Turfsiders had no concept of time! And how they differed between handlers and holders. happy little one is gone. The gold settled back down, stretching out and taking as much room as possible as she did. Yes, but lucky for you, you can go back to sleep Danae wasn’t particularly happy.
A little while later, she was groomed and polished, heavily partaking in a warmed mug of Klah, She was hoping it would wake her up, but to the contrary, it was lulling her back to sleep. Fortunately, the bright lights of the upper walks were keeping her eyes opened. She had informed several of the drudges to inform her immediately as to when the Lord Holder and his advisors would be arriving. How she detested this. It would be her, a lone female handler, pit against two male, upper Holds-men. She’d love to balance the sides, but she’d be caused then to disturb another’s sleep.
Also, who would she trust in this situation? Fyg would not be a good choice, likely her callous tongue and somewhat crude phrasing would leave much to be desired by these visitors. Unfortunately. Laier, again, likely not a good choice, a green handler called to this meeting would not look fortuitous, though Laier was in fact the oldest member of Caspian Wher hold, though not too long before herself of course. Then, of course, there was Alder. The only male handler in the wher hold thus far, he would be the logical choice, male, bronze handler. From her knowledge of powerful men, they didn’t take well to women with power, except for a Weyrwoman, because Dragonfolk were different to holderfolk. That was a common known fact. She sighed. She knew if she could, it would be different, if mankind could force a group of golds to chase a bronze, they would. But, no, Alder would not be a good choice, their friendship was fickle at best, and after the Weyr, she had no inclination to be around the male.
She sipped at the Klah, finishing it, and placing the mug down and wove her way out to the courtyard, She stood waiting by the gates. Pre-empting their arrival. She wore wherhide trousers ((knowing these to be made now of Wherryhide, and not a wher’s hide xD)), a neatly woven tunic of a pale brown, boots, and a heavy woollen cardigan, sleeplessness made her feel cold. Her hair left down in gentle waves. Dark circles under her eyes were another obvious sign of her disturbed sleep, but she wouldn’t deny the fact that their visit had disrupted her sleep. She was nocturnal! What did they expect arranging visits during the day…

Laier had been sleeping soundly, quite comfortably, snuggled down into her furs. A wad of furs tucked under her cheek, and she was happily dreaming away. That was, until something rather big and toothy took hold of her snuggly furs and dragged them off of her. For a moment she resisted waking ... and then groggily groped around for her missing furs, knees encroaching toward her chest while her hand quested.
Up Lask intoned, flashing pictures of brightness.
"Aggggghhhh." Laier protesting. Cracking one eye blearily, she lifted her head and frowned at her wher. And then she looked around, blinking. "Lask, you're whacked. It's not night yet." She said, reaching off the bed for her furs. But the green wher whisked them out of reach again.
Up. Queen ... need. Lask insisted, the purloined furs dangling from her front teeth. She whisked them around a bit, getting them nice and dirty. She flashed a picture of Danask, then Danae, with brightness all around Danae. Lask had no idea what Rukbat looked like, and frankly didn't want to know. But her impression of it was good enough to get the idea across. Daytime.
"What? What's going on? Give me those! No! Don't ... don't... arg, Lask! They're dirty, now!" Laier complained, staggering to her feet and trying to snatch her furs back from the wher.
Mine. Lask insisted, draping them in a heap in her own bed, and then flopped down on them. Lifting her head defiantly, she insisted that Laier go out and be there.
"But ... why? Admin's Note:
" Laier grouched, rubbing at an eye with the back of one hand.
In the end, Lask won. And Laier was up and about, neatly dressed, and wandering around trying to figure out why her wher had all but litterally thrown her out in the middle of her sleep cycle. But, remarkably enough, the wherhandler made a good image for having just been asleep. She didn't look like she had just been asleep. In fact, she looked downright perky... if confused.
She knew that she wasn't going to find Danask wandering around in the middle of the day, so 'Queen' was left to only one other ... her handler. So, it was only natural that Laier was looking for Danae. And when she spotted the woman, she made her way over.
"Odd time to find you up and around." Laier said, cheerfully, as she arrived by Danae's side... and before she saw the woman's face. She frowned, then. "What's going on?" She asked. "Is Danask okay?"

Bynor stood and took what was left of the meatroll he was eating. "Why certainly. But I'll be finishing this up along the way", Bynor said with amusement as he tossed the meatroll lightly before taking another bite of it. He followed Terwin to the wher hold, finishing up his meatroll along the way.
Truth be told, Bynor never really had the time to see the Wher hold until now. Between the duties his own hold had for him and his constant trips to the weyr lately, Bynor had been kept very busy. The lordholder had to wonder if the holds that didn't tithe to Dark Moon stayed so busy. He truely doubted it, but he wasn't going to judge. Still, he wasn't pleased that these holds weren't doing duties that were required of them. They had grown content, not having ever experienced thread and only knew of it by ear or written word. Bynor had never seen it himself, but he wasn't going to doubt it. It was better to be prepared that way, and being in the good graces of pern's protectors would always be a good thing for his hold.

“Very well sir.” Terwin nodded as Bynor got up, fully prepared to head out to the Wher Hall at that moment. He smoothed out his outfit as they walked and even reached over and smoothed out a wrinkle on the Lord Holder’s shoulder. Wrinkles didn’t make for a good first impression. “I borrowed a bronze flitt from a friend and sent a message requesting her appearance.” Terwin told the man though the Lord Holder probably didn’t need to know the exact details.
They left the kitchen and followed a few winding tunnels. The meeting place suggested in his letter was the courtyard and within a few moments they had arrived. He paused for a moment, peering around before noting two women near the gates. He quickly approached them, a smile on his face and an extended hand. He examined the two, trying to decipher who was who. Thank Faranth he had notes about their appearance. “You must be Lady Danae. And you, must be Lady Laier.” He wasn’t expecting the other woman but was glad she came. The more the merrier.
He bowed his head slightly at the two, “Sorry for making this meeting during the day.” He had heard that Wherhandlers were nocturnal like whers. Unfortunately Bynor was not nocturnal, he slept at night so the meeting couldn’t have been arranged then. “Ah, sorry. I’m Terwin, Advisor to the Lord Holder.”

Danae smiled, Laier was coming to join her, how nice! “Danask is fin, and yes, an odd hour to see me up and about I guess. But, I’ve just been informed, this gloriously sunny day” Disdain was soft in those words, “that the Lord holder Requests an audience. Thus, I am awake and ready to greet him, you’re welcome to join in if you want, its our first proper meeting as I’m sure you remember.” She looked at Laier, “Though, if it’s not something you want to be involved in, then by all means, don’t stay, it’s your choice.” She managed to finish as she spotted two people walking her way.
“Good day to you both, I am glad to see you found your way my Lord.” She said.
“Oh, no worries Terwin, and of course I know of you, though I’ve never had the pleasure of meeting you Terwin, and you Lord Holder Bynor. I am awash with humility at the fact you grace us with your presence,” She bowed, though not too low. Didn’t want him to think she was a suck up, and would be easy to manipulate and push around. That wasn’t her way at all.
“Please, if you will follow us to the side room of the kitchens, we are not large enough that our presence there will cause anyone a disturbance, and I doubt there is much cause for extreme privacy? Only the cooks will be working, and a meagre crew of them too, for all of our handlers sleep. And as to this, no harm no foul Terwin, I know you do not rest at the same time as we do, however, perhaps next time the evening? That way it’ll likely suit both of us better.” She smiled, her suggestion put forward in the kindest way possible. She began to lead off towards the kitchens, hoping they wouldn’t have a problem, she stifled a yawn as she walked, her back to them, so, her yawn-teary eyes were not to be noticed. Thankfully.

"Good, good. The way Lask was carrying on, I was pretty sure something bad had happened. I'll give her a good kick in the rump later, for making me think that. She could have said it wasn't a life or death emergency!" Laier remarked. " A ... a ... what, now? A meeting? Now Admin's Note:
Oh, shards ... I'm not dressed for this ... ahhhh." She spun about in place for a moment, spotted the two men approaching, and hastily smoothed out her shirt, grimmacing for a split instant.
The grimmace was soon replaced with a bright and cheery smile, though. When greetings were made, she inclined her torso slightly, as well, with respect. But she never said a word. It wasn't her place to say anything, not at the moment, anyway. She was just a greenhandler ... and completely surrounded by authoritive figures. Queen handler, Lord Holder, and advisor. Ach, she was so out of her depth and league. But, she did the best she could ... especially considering she wasn't at all dressed for affairs of state. Laier was pretty sure she looked like a schlameil, even though she wasn't actually dressed all that badly ...
Laier smiled and gestured after Danae, allowing the two men to preceed her after the Queenhandler into the kitchens, bringing up the tail end of the procession. She cast a squinted glance around the courtyard ... it was so bright! And then followed them inside. Where she still remained for the most part entirely silent. Until it became apparent that her input was needed for whatever reason, she intended to hold her silence. Laier was not even sure why Lask had decided that she had to get up for this ... except maybe to be a morale support to Danae?

Bynor followed his advisor to meet with the queenhandler, little did he know she'd be joined by any other. When he noticed the two women, he hadn't thought about there being another person. But he was glad to meet more than just the queenhandler.
"My greetings to both of you", Bynor nodded to the two ladies. He could understand that both were tired, and that he had disrupted their schedule. "I'll make sure to clear an evening for our next meeting", he stated politely. It was a shame he couldn't do so this time. But his life was busier than usual and evenings were not an option, otherwise he'd never find time for rest. He followed the queenhandler to the kitchens as suggested. Bynor had no quarrel as to where they met.

“Please, it is my honor to be in the presence of a Gold wherhandler.” Terwin returned humbly with a soft smile. Danae was an important person in the Wher Hall, the man didn’t want to insult her or something.
A slight blush reached his cheeks and he bowed as an apology, a sheepish grin on his face. “Yes, of course. It’s only fair, we made you face the day so we will face the evening.” He laughed, feeling slightly bad that their first meeting had to be during the day. It made sense of course, wherhandlers slept during the day. Bynor and himself had taken away some of their sleeping hours so they would take away some of theirs – an even trade in his opinion. Terwin followed as she made her way to the side room.
“I hope that your Danask and your Lask are doing well.” He said politely, pausing for a second as he tried to recall the names of the beasts. Hopefully those were correct, otherwise he might have just thoroughly embarrassed himself. “Are there any problems with the Wher Hall?” He inquired with a slight frown. He hoped the hall was a good accommodation for them – if something needed to fix, him and Bynor would have to look through some paperwork to see if they could give it better funding.

Danae smiled as she entered the dimly lit corridors of the upper hold, taking the most direct path to the kitchens, “Aye, I would greatly appreciate it if you would my Lord.” She kept walking as she spoke, leading the entourage onwards, but eventually, the corridors opened up. Before them the kitchens widened, they were not grand, or impressive, but they functioned well, it was well laid out, and there was ample space and storage, certainly for their current numbers.
“Ah, Tamir?” She called to a cook, “Would you mind serving something of our finest for the Lord Holder and his Advisor? Please?” She questioned, the cook made a few noises of discontent, and then set about doing so. “Don’t mind her, she loves to cook, she just doesn’t like surprise requests.” She laughed, walking through to the main room, where they would sit. A drudge followed them in with four mugs, four glasses, a pot of Klah and a skin of wine, giving them the bearer the choice. Danae poured herself a glass of klah before she sat down. “Klah or Wine?” She offered around.
“And, thank you for asking Terwin, Danask is well, she’s sleeping, else I would let you be introduced, though right now I think it could be a risk, Danask is unfriendly when she hasn’t slept.” Danae informed them. Her wher was partial to her sleep. “And aye, yes, the Hall is fantastic, no cribs, or qualms from me, nor have I heard any from the others. I believe there was a light leak in one of the Digs, but, we fixed that soon enough. Tree roots seemed to have moved a little, and it just set the Wher off a little, but it was nothing we couldn’t Fix, fortunately, despite the fact the majority of us are thus far – female – we tend to work hard, and our man is also a deft worker, if a little lazy.” She informed. The lad, obviously referring to Alder. “Though, I do apologise for the extension on our budget, I understand it’s a tricky position, and I promise soon we will be able to hold our own. Just with the excess number of people here, suddenly, and the added needs, we were taken quite unawares. My sincerest apologies to you both.” She told them humbly. Taking a mouthful of her drink.

Laier followed them into the kitchens, and took a seat along with the rest, wondering what in Faranth's name she was doing there ... again. She smiled politely at everyone, and nodded to the two men, each in turn. When Terwin mentioned the whers, she smiled a little broader.
"Greetings, Sir. Yes, sir. Lask is a pain in the rump as always, but a healthy and lovable one." She answered, simply. She fell silent again, accepting a mug as Danae started in on answering the other questions that were laid on the table. Once the others were done with the skins, she poured herself some wine. She rather liked wine ... and wasn't interested in stimulating herself to the point where she couldn't go back to bed once this meeting was overwith. She did have a job to do, come nightfall, after all. Laier sipped it, before resting the mug in both hands as she listened intently.
She might learn something new and interesting... not to mention getting to sample some of the hold's finest in the process was always a bonus! The cooks really knew thier stuff, and when they broke out all the stops and worked with the finest ... it was often a really awesome dish. Or three!

Bynor simply remained silent but attentive as his advisor talked with Danae. He sat down and when a choice of drink was offered, he raised his hand slightly. "No wine for me, thanks. Klah will do. I've still got a busy schedule ahead of me. Many things to take care of since I've returned from Dark Moon", Bynor spoke up and explained his choice in conversation. Once a cup of klah was handed to him, he took an appreciative sip before turning his attention to Danae. "It's no problem. It's my pleasure to help when someone is in need", Bynor responded and nodded slightly. It truely was a pleasure for Bynor. He felt that a man in his position should utilize it in the best interest of others. When someone was in need, Bynor did his best to help. That was a characteristic Bynor was raised with.

Terwin let a smile appear on his face while Danae pardoned for the cook, “I can only imagine that most cooks wouldn’t enjoy surprise requests.”. He followed the to the main room and sat on the opposite side of the Wherhandlers. “Thank you.” He replied to her offer of the drinks. He noted that Laier was drinking wine and didn’t want the woman to feel left out or anything, helping himself to a glass.
He laughed softly and waved his hand in the air, “Let sleeping whers lie. I’d hate to wake her.” He hadn’t really seen any whers yet and he would probably enjoy the experience much better if the creature was content and not unfriendly like Danae mentioned. He let his elbows rest on the table, fingers overlapping with one and another as he listened to the Gold Wherhandler talk. There was a slight frown on his face when it was mentioned there was only one male so far at the Wher Hall, he glanced over at Bynor “I’m sure we can contact some of the other Wher Halls nearby to see if they have any willing handlers that would consider a transfer.”. Surely there was a few handlers out there that wouldn’t mind a change of scenery.
“Please, it’s like Lord Bynor said – we like to help. Plus the Wher Hall will bring a lot of newcomers to Caspian Hold eventually so we’re only happy to help supply the funds needed.” He easily shook off her apology, not thinking that the extension was really that big of a deal. That’s what they were there for, help supply for those nearby. He turned his attention to Laier and grinned, “Call me Terwin. I’m glad to hear that she is doing well, even if she is being a pain.”

Danae poured Klah for his lordship, the others didn’t specify, so she presumed they were not of a thirsty disposition - Well of course, Laier poured herself wine, but that was to be expected, then Terwin followed suit, leaving the two of more responsibility drinking Klah. Suddenly she felt old, and boring, but she wouldn not mention it. She took a long draught form her mug, and looked to the others, watching each respectively as they spoke, she waited her turn, and replied, firstly to Bynor.
“Still, my Lord, it is for you to know that we here Appreciate what it is you do for us, I am humbled to think that a man as high as yourself could regard us so well.” Terwin elaborated on this, and she felt mildly wretched at being so amiable before them, it was not her way, she was feisty, it was her character, she’d prefer a strong debate rather than sucking eggs in conversation. “Of course,” She nodded, “Wher’s are an Asset, especially with the Dragon’s so close by, Weyr’s oft attract odd folk, but, Wher’s deter. It is part of their nature. She smiled, thinking of Danask, “most find them quite peculiar creatures, ugly even, but, beauty lies in everything, if you can pause to see it, or so is my belief. “ She paused, feeling a little too sentimental.
“Come then! Any business of yours you wish to conduct within the Wher holdings? I’m sure we will be most accommodating in such circumstances” She offered proactively.

Laier nodded, with respect and a small smile dancing on her lips. "Terwin, sir." she agreed, to his statement of preferred addressment. She would comply ... she just threw that last 'sir' in for the heck of it. Just to be ... difficult ... for a spare moment. She lifted her mug of wine, and offered it in a small salute to all present before taking a sip off it. Wild and crazy? Sometimes, but not today. She had just been asleep, after all. And she aimed to go back to her bed, too, after this meeting was over.
"My dear Terwin ... if my wher ever stopped being a pain ... then I would worry." Laier said, with a smile, cradling her mug in both hands. For a time after that, she was silent, merely listening to all the talk going on and watching how Danae handled it. Laier would never be in that position, but it was still something worth watching.
Finally, just to be sideways, she stuck out an off the wall comment; "Can I get new feathers for my pillow?" Hardly the gravest of concerns for the Wher hold, and by far not the gravest of the wher handlers. But Laier just wanted to see how it would go over, and what they'd do in reply. She had no care for her own reputation ... she didn't have one! So asking rediculous questions for experimentation was not below her at all.

"I'll make it my top priority", Lord Bynor looked to his advisor and agreed. When he got back, he would make sure to send word as quickly as he could. It wasn't a hard thing to do. Send a messenger, maybe even a flitt if necessary.
He then turned back to Danae and smiled, nodding his head slightly. "You are quite welcome. My people are my concern and in turn that extends here. It is with great pleasure that I do my job", he responded to the gold wherhandler. Bynor turned his head to Laier and chuckled. Bynor was not like other snobby men of his position. He could appreciate humor, he could appreciate a good joke. "I'll be sure to send only the finest feathers for you", he nodded his head slightly to Laier and continued to laugh. He then looked between the two wherhandlers. "And perhaps a bottle of fine wine I'll send over as well", Bynor gestured to the wine the ladies were drinking. He held nothing against them for drinking it. Quite the contrary. Bynor appreciated a nice bottle of wine as well.
