Between Weyrlings lessons, hurricane clean up, and general care-taking of the Hawk's Eye that had become his life, K'ris hadn't exactly had much time to just sit somewhere and take a break. So when he finally did find a small window of time where he might be able to do just that, he grabbed onto it and headed out to the lake shore with Queroth; Twil sort of followed, but he was constantly flying off in some other direction as well.
It was a nice day, especially since the water's had receded at least somewhat at this point and there was once again sand to lounge about in instead of the flat rocks on the outer edges of the lake area. K'ris was in simple blue-black trousers and a white short-sleeved shirt. He was laying back in the sand with his arms folded over his chest, and his head resting on one of Queroth's front legs.
The dragonet was only a few months old at this point, around 10 or 11 inches to shoulder when he was standing. Next to anyone else the Hawks' eye would've looked a bit small, and compared to other dragons he was a bit smaller (though of course nowhere near as small as a white). It wasn't precisely noticeable, however, with the five-foot tall weyrling lounging next to him.
[Kinda short for an intro, but I just wanted to throw up a random roleplay to sort of get into the spin of it again. Anyone is welcome to join! Really, please do. ]

Feeling slightly homesick, Daelan snuck out of the weyr to go visit the lake, for he felt at home near the large body of water, then again, anyone who was a former fisherman would. He walked as close to the water as he could and just started walking laps around it, thinking about his life and what exactly he was doing at this strange place. As he walked along the shore, he failed to notice Queroth until he tripped over his tail.
“Ouch! What the--- Admin's Note:
” He said, looking to see what it was he tripped over. When he saw it was the tail of a dragon, he jumped in surprise, he wasn`t sure if he should be amazed at the strange color of the dragon he tripped over, or amazed at the beautiful color it had to it`s hide. He decided to go with the latter of the two and hopefully get on the dragon’s good side.
“What a beautiful Blue you are. I have never seen a dragon quite like you.” He said to Queroth, not noticing the rider resting on his front leg.

Queroth had noticed the presence of the candidate walking around the lake, but hadn't told K'ris considering the blond had been slipping in and out of a doze, and generally enjoying the relaxation of the area. So when Daelan came over and tripped across Qeuroth's tale, the dragonet lifted his head to look over at the boy. K'ris promptly woke up at the exclamation Daelan had given when he tripped, looking over to where the boy was standing as he made the comment to Queroth.
Queroth gave a croon in reply to the boy, pulling a smile out of K'ris at the response. He's nice, will Mine tell him 'thank you' Admin's Note:
He was still young, but he'd been in the world long enough to have started picking up on proper kindly responses and politeness.
K'ris pushed himself up from where he was laying to sit cross-legged, leaning carefully against Queroth's folded wing. Queroth moved his tail closer to his body, curling it around to rest across K'ris' legs. "Queroth says thanks," K'ris replied, "he's not a blue though." The weyrling offered a smile. "I'm K'ris, by the way. I guess I should've expected at least one other person out at the lake on a day like this."

Daelan smiled sheepishly and nodded.
“You are very welcome Queroth. Nice to meet you both, my name is Daelan.” He nervously said to them.
“I find myself right at home in a place like this, for I grew up by the sea, and I would occasionally go out to sea with my father to help him fish. Being by a place such as this reminds me of home.” He cheerfully explained. When K’ris mentioned his dragon not being a blue, Daelan turned to the dragon and stared, tilting his head a few times at him.
“You say he’s not a blue? He looks enough like one to me. Or would he be perhaps one of the strange dragons I have heard Dark Moon to hatch?” He asked, suddenly very excited to see one of the strange colored dragons for the first time.

K'ris listened to Daelan's reminiscent explanation, nodding afterwards. "Yeah, I lived by the sea once. I remember the family I stayed with there as being real nice." They'd been one of the few to treat him more like a member of the family, and less like some hired hand they could care less for. The blond looked over to Queroth's head when he was brought back into the conversation, smiling at the mildly confused reaction of Daelan's.
"Well, he's colored blue," he said, and then nodded at Daelan's question. "He's a Hawk's Eye dragon. They usually come paired with a twin - the Tiger's Eye. Queroth's hatching was during the hurricane. His twin didn't have enough space to grow, and didn't actually...make it, but I managed to pull the shell open before Queroth was drowned." The dragonet crooned again and nudged at the back of K'ris' head. K'ris smiled and reached up to scratch at the dragonet's eye ridges.

Daelan stared wonderingly at Queroth, not taking his eyes off the dragon as he responded to K'ris.
"Hawk's Eye... How pretty. Oh, but such a shame your sibling did not make it. I had heard of the hurricane and was hoping to help with some of the repairs while I wait for my own dragon. It must be an amazing feeling, rescuing a creature who will one day tower over you and flame deadly thread." He commented, picturing the scene of Queroth's birth.
"Was it a true Impression? Did he call out to you?" Daelan asked K'ris.

"A true impression?" K'ris repeated, looking over to Daelan at the question. "I don't think there's any impression that isn't true, I don't think an impression can be untrue. But if you want the story..." he thought back to when the hatching actually happened, working to recall events. Queroth's eyes gave a small whirl, and he watched his bonded's mind as the boy went through memories, in some ways helping K'ris focus in on the ones he was looking for.
"The water's started rising, and all the candidates were told to lure the dragonets away to where the sand was dry, but there was a few eggs still left and they would've gotten covered with water if we ignored them. So I went to build a barrier around them with sand - another boy helped me, but the sand barriers weren't going to do anything if the eggs didn't hatch. The other boy ended up working with a small egg, and I was left to try and barricade off this giant egg. The egg was just starting to crack when the barrier started coming apart, and it wasn't going any further than that. Then the sand bags fell over and water just started pouring into the hatching sands.
They started moving candidates and weyrlings into the stands to get away from the water but I...just couldn't leave the egg there, stuck and maybe drowning. You're not actually supposed to touch the eggs, but...well I'm a HAD anyway, and I thought if I could just smash the egg open more then I could let whoever was inside get out and be on their way. Course..by that time the water was just short of being over my head." K'ris shrugged and smiled lopsidedly, waving a hand over his head. "Doesn't take much water to do that, I guess." He went on afterwards.
"But anyway, I got a big piece of shell and I was trying to pry the big egg open. When i finally did, the only thing that fell out was this disformed carcass...which was weird for me, because I'd been so sure I'd heard someone make a noise inside." He smiled at Queroth at that point. "So I thought I'd been hearing things..then, yeah, Queroth did call for me. He was stuck under the dead dragonet."
K'ris gave a shrug again. "After that it was just a matter of carrying him across the sands with water up to my neck." He laughed shortly. "Not the easiest thing...I pretty much passed out at the feast later that night."

Daelan listened intently to his story and gazed wonderingly at them both.
"Wow. That sure does sound like an exciting story. I can imagine it was quite scary too, having a dead hatchling on top of you like that." Daelan said to Queroth, reaching his hand out to the dragon to touch him but then pulling it back.
"I can imagine you two being quite tired after such an event like that, I`m not sure I myself would be able to take such stress. What a wondeful experience." He said, smiling.

Qeuroth turned to look over towards Daelan at the comment. K'ris supplied him with the dragon's response, "Queroth says he was more afraid of the water than the hatchling. The dragon wasn't even fully developed, so it wasn't so much of a loss; Qeuroth just happened to get the nutrients he needed to grow, and the other didn't. Does explain why Qeuroth's a bit smaller than I guess Hawk's eyes usually are, but" K'ris gave a shrug. "Well, we fit together, anyway."
Queroth tilted his head a bit, and K'ris glanced over when Daelan had reached out and quickly pulled his hand away. K'ris smiled a bit. "He likes it best when you scratch him just on the eyeridges," he supplied, hoping that'd be 'permission' enough for the boy to know it was alright to touch.

Daelan chuckled and nodded at them.
"You most certainly do. I can only hope that my own dragon and I will get along just" He told them. Daelan really didn`t know what to expect of the upcoming Hatching, how would he know which dragon was his? Would he be able to tell? Will his dragon be demanding or overpowering? These questions and so many more raced through his head as he stared at Queroth and his rider.
When K’ris mentioned Queroth’s liking of getting his eye ridges scratched, he took that as an “Ok” to touch the dragon and he reached over gently, softly scratching the dragon in it’s favorite spot. He smiled at the contact.
“Wow, how soft, so smooth, not at all what I thought a dragon to feel like, are all dragons like this or is it one of Queroth’s characteristics?” He asked, continuing to scratch the dragon.

"So long as their hide is taken care of, they're generally nice and smooth." K'ris gathered his feet beneath him as Daelan pet at Queroth, bringing himself to stand up since his legs were getting a bit cramped in the seated position. He only stood a little under a foot taller than Daelan, coming to a even five-feet. K'ris reached his arms up and stretched, giving a yawn as he did so. "Hm," he mused, letting his arms fall back down to either side. "I wonder how much longer I'll be able to hide out here before I get given more chores."

Daelan chuckled at K'ris' musing and shook his head.
"I wouldn't worry about it, I'll help you, hahaha, anyway, wow. It must be wonderful to be a rider. I was never chosen on Searches when the riders of Southern came to my hold." He explained.

[I'm going to make a correction here. Earlier in the posting, I said that Qeuroth was only like, 11 INCHES tall at the shoulder? Yes, well...I made an oops. xD; He's like, 10/11 FEET at the shoulder. Still small, but not AS small.]
K'ris laughed a bit in response. "Thanks," he said in offer for the help, "But, I think I'm done for the day. You just never know if Rhia might add some more on as a relaxation tax, or something."
He listened to Daelan's next comment, and then nodded. "I know what you mean, I wasn't searched either. It took until I was 19 for them to finally search me out." K'ris shrugged. "I think part of it was that I was always on the move, so I never saw many searches to begin with." Considering the way his search had gone, he often thought that the moving must have been the only reason. He'd actually been searched just barely after arriving at a Hold; the search-dragon had already been there, and almost immediately after K'ris had gotten there the dragon had zeroed in on him. K'ris might've added that to the story...but he wasn't the sort to draw attention to himself - probably why he never minded about his own height, or lack there of.

Daelan smiled and stretched, yawning.
"Wow. I never much traveled. Only kind of traveling I've done is going out to sea to fish and coming up here. It exhausted me, yes, but I never imagined something like that." He added. He moved in front of K'ris and Queroth and sat down a little bit away from them.
"Gosh, just thinking about it makes me tired." Daelan said, yawning again.

All stretched at this point, K'ris was perfectly content with settling back into the sand once Daelan sat down as well. Qeuroth adjusted his wing to fold it enough so that K'ris could lean against the shoulder of his front leg; the dragonet rested his head on his front "paws" as well.
K'ris gave another shrug to Daelan's comments, smiling at the last one. "It's not so bad once you get used to it." And, he thought as his hand came up to fiddle at the charm on his necklace, he'd certainly had enough time to get used to it. "Sometimes I'd get to ride with traders; and sometimes I'd end up delivering a runner to the next hold, so I could just ride it there."
[Are horses called runners? I'm fairly sure, but I think it might be runnerbeast too...either way, he means pernese horse xD]
