Name: Satnee
Age: 16
Gender: Female
Rank: Drudge
Dragon: N/A
Dragon Appearance: N/A
Dragon Personality: N/A
Appearance:
Satnee is of middling height, with long brown hair that she keeps braided while working. She usually wears non descript clothes as well so that when they get stained she doesn't mind it. When not working she wears bright colors, anything to stay away from the drab, drudge clothes.
Satnee's eyes are a murky green, like a rough emerald. It has tiny flecks of brown in it if you look closely but it's a deep green. She's actually rather proud about her eye color, because of it being unique. Since she doesn't own much, it's not that hard to believe she'd grasp for something to set her apart from the other Weyrbrats.
Personality:
Satnee takes a dim view of the world. Pern loves the dragon riders and she's already decided that each and everyone of them is a dimglow just waiting for the right moment to ruin the world. She fears the time when Thread falls upon the world because she just knows they'll screw it up. Yes, Dragon rider's took care of it in turns past but she figures they have gotten dumber as the turns past.
She is polite to those she serves but there is a certain coldness towards the dragon rider's. The Holder's and family members seemed to always be served first when she's on duty. Satnee knows it's petty but she can't seem to bring herself to stop. After all it doesn't hurt anyone.
When she forgets about the past and how shardin' stupid Pern is she's pretty fun to hang around. She has many drudge friends and enjoys the Gathers and other festivities. She can dance and sing with the best of them. Being a drudge though, she doesn't get too many holidays off. But with a busy place like the Weyr there is always something good going on to talk about. Gossip is plentiful in the Kitchens.
She's also very good with puzzles and riddles. She enjoys talking to traveling Harpers or Journeyman of various ranks. She doesn't always get them right, but the exercise and twists of thought is enough for her. She sometimes wishes she could become a Harper and go to the Harper Hall. Satnee fears the change of life it would require though, to go that far away.
She's also rather competitive. She's a bad loser as well, though she tries to hide it. One of the reasons she's so good at remembering things is she tries to learn as much as she can so no one will show her up.
History:
Satnee grew up as a weyrbrat. One of the many children born from a green rider. Yes, chances were better that a dragon rider's children would Impress but Satnee had never liked the loose way dragon rider's lived. She supposed she didn't wholly disagree with it for she had never left the Weyr, but how could one leave all they know? She had grown up wild and then once she was of working age, had been set to work as a drudge. Currently she works in the Lower Caverns, cleaning tables and serving food. Believe or not she was a drudge with no talent towards cooking.
Her parents had ... for lack of a better term, died turns ago. She'd been eleven at the time. It all was a huge accident. One she'll never forget, though she wasn't there. The freshly Impressed were going through the infamous weyrling toss. Her father was helping because of the abnormally large batch of weyrlings. As the toss proceeded the Weryling Master, Assistant Weryling Master, and her father were talking and casually watching the weyrlings. Apparently one dimglow had thought himself an exception to the rules. He fed his brown dragonet Firestone and waited to see what happened. It had a huge coughing fit and ended up sparking a whole bag of Firestone. The resulting fire injured her father's blue dragon, Nigth. Two of his legs were severely burned and there wasn't much the healers could do for him other than numbweed.
Satnee was working in the kitchens at the time of all this and by the time she got wind of it all they were gone. At first she hadn't understood, but kindly the Weyr Healer explained it to her. Her father couldn't bare the thought of life without his dragon and her mother was deeply attached to her father. Being dragon riders and having their children cared for by the Weyr, they didn't think much of leaving. All they had thought about was informing their Weyrleaders. Because, being a law of their own, dragon riders didn't need anyone else's approval. All because of a dimglow dragon rider.
A few turns later when the Healer's feline had a litter, Satnee asked for one. Perhaps out of pity or just because he didn't want a whole litter of felines, he gave her one. She named him Chaser, for he was always darting off from one shadow to the next. She's glad he's a good feline for eating tunnel snakes and rats...she just wished he didn't bring them to her as 'gifts'. He's just now maturing and growing into his full frame. He has a beautiful, orange coat with black spots and a soft, white under belly.
While Satnee couldn't even think of living outside Weyr life, she also didn't wish to live among those same people who let her parents die. While they hadn't coddled her every minute of the day they did take time to track her down and ask how her studies were going and if she wanted for anything. So when she heard of Dark Moon Weyr, with it's small population and almost out of the loop of Pern she asked for a transfer. She slipped in smoothly enough, though she's not sure if it's better or not.
