Relina watched Faine approach Andilay in a cheerful manner and saw the grin on her face as she talked to her. Relina was thrown into confusion at the sight.
She did not Impress, and yet she is cheerful. She looks like she wants to even congradulate the new queenrider, why? I do not understand, when I thought I would not Impress I was devastated, and yet she had actually been rejected at two hatchings and she is still cheerful. Why is this so, my dragon? Relina desperately asked. She was very confused. Soranith jerked her head up a little bit and watch Faine with Relina.
I cannot tell you this, I can only read YOUR intentions and emotions, mine, not others. Unless they have a dragon to tell me I am as isolated from others emotions as you are. However, every person is different, and they have different ways of working with their conditions. Whether your friend is truly upset by this or not, I cannot tell, and this is something you and she must discuss in person. Soranith explained. Unfortunately, this was not good enough for Relina and she figured Soranith had no idea how hard actually talking to Faine about her feelings was. She had never talked to anyone but Zorn about her own feelings, and even then, Zorn knew her feelings and memories without her saying.
I know this is hard mine, but you must be strong, you must try. Soranith soothingly told her. Relina took a deep breath and thought about what to say to Faine when she approached.

Andilay gave a slight bow towards the newly impressed two. "Congrats, new junior weyrwoman. May you find great happiness with your new bonded."
She watched Salina also give her congratulations to the new pair, and gave a slight surprised look after she was winked at. However, always one to recover quickly Andilay smiled and gave her fellow candidate a fist to tap in companionship. "But of course. We will be bright stars that were well worth the wait." A bigger smile made her lips twitch as she added, "And since I will be fully healed by next hatching I shall be ripe for another mauling. But, hopefully dragons would not be so boring as to repeat the same performance twice."

The redhead grinned with delight when Andilay bumped fists. It was nice to see that the other girl wasn’t down at the fact she didn’t Impress. “Everyone will be jealous of us.” Faine continued, waving her hand slowly through the air as if she was painting a picture.
She let her hand drop and laughed, “If a dragon heads your way next time with mean intentions, I’ll push it away.” She let out a content sigh, staring at the hatching sands. She did have to wonder when she would next see them; would they have to wait a long time? So many questions but she didn’t feel like asking for the answers. She turned and skipped towards Relina.
When she reached the girl, she slumped an arm around her shoulders. “Did ya see that Relina! I got to be up close to a gold dragon! Imagine that!” She blurted out, a large grin on her face. No doubt a few people were startled by the girls cheeriness – most people had the tendency to be disappointed when left standing. Faine wasn’t like most people though, she sort of wanted to go back to the barracks and make her bed three times. She had left it a mess and it was bothering her now.

Two raced to the sands, faces acknowledging eachother as the smaller matched the older’s pace and sprinted into the sands.
To Late!
The queen had impressed, Ez heaved, he’d ran from the other side of the weyr, and still missed the sharding impression! He cursed fowly through laboured breaths. The taller – the bronze rider who had brought the egg to the sands before, Y’rael. He slapped Ez on the shoulder and smirked, standing tall and not out of breath at all in comparison to the youth, “C’mon lad, can’t have been that far.” He whirled off with a flutter of that same long tan coat and he approached a girl who was receiving congratulations in the midst of a few. But as the people separated, he seen the one person that had formerly evaded Ez’s line of sight.
Salina.
..
Y’rael strode forwards through the crowds, he caught the hand of the the new impressor of the egg he had carried, “Congratulations young miss Junior Weyrwoman, you are the envy of most everyone here right now, I hope you find her, you and your new role quite as perfect as you possibly could.” Charming and light hearted as always, “I also, apologise profusely for missing your hatching my queen,” He aimed at the hatchling, “It was my task to bring you here, and have you impress here, and I overseen it all, bar the final part, I am profusely sorry about that.” He bowed to the hatchling queen, remorseful as he did.
..
Ez found it in himself, and ran forwards again, rushing over to Salina and hugging her tight, “Sassie!” He called gleefully as he hugged her tight, eyes alight with excitement, “You did it! You really, really did it!!” He beamed at her, innocent as a child playing with a canine pup. “Congratulations! I told you! I told you.” He stressed beaming over her shoulder as he held her, reluctant to let her go.
Yet, he did eventually pull back, He looked kindly upon the new queen, “Oh Sassie, she’s wonderful, you would not be seen with any other, I’m certain of it, no matter where you stood, she was yours, and you are hers! How marvellous!”
Garisath came trundling into the hatching sands, two weeks growth seeing him quite a bite taller than he had been before, a good foot and a half taller than prior, he was a comparible height to the newly hatched queen, and suddenly the brown felt quite small, or perhaps humbled was the word, and the excitable brown was made more demure by the new queens presence, Congratulations on finding yours, my queen, ours are quite closely acquainted, I hope we will be able to get along. The browns sense of fun coming over in his last few words, and that he meant nothing serious by it, how could he! The brown Garisath was a bundle of fun. It was all he could be.
Ez smiled up at his brown, the brown hummed lightly in return, Ez piped up again “I’m so happy for you Salina, but I hope you know, your rank now won’t change how I look upon you at all.” He smirked playfully to her.

Relina gasped at the sudden physical contact and struggled to resist the urge to tear away once she saw it was her friend, Faine. She glowered at her but relaxed when she realized it was futile to try and get angry with her.
Faine is not an easy person to be angry at, why is that? She wondered.
Ask her. Soranith commanded her. Relina looked shockingly at her dragon.
Are you mad? Why would I ask such a thing? I'd look like a fool.
Ask her. Soranith repeated.
I would look weak. Relina told her, still refusing.
Ask her. Soranith insisted, in a slightly irritated voice. Relina sighed.
You win. Relina relented. She turned her attention to Faine. "Yes, golds are magnificent, are they not? You know, I ordinarily do not like to be touched, yet I am finding it difficult to get angry with you. Why is that?" Relina asked in a forced casual tone.

Rhia stepped forward, a smile on her face. "Step back please everyone. We have a newly hatched Queen here and she needs food." There was no hint of reprimand in her voice.
Christae was right behind her. "Congratulations Salina. What is her name?" She asked, though Kaith already knew.
Rhia gestured off the sands. "Let's get off these hot sands and get her fed." She let the Weyrwoman mention anything else.
Christae smiled. "There will be a celebration tonight once she has eaten and rested. We will honor our new Junior Weyrwoman in training and our Junior Queen." Both Weyrwoman and Weyrlingmaster were beaming. They knew what this meant for the weyr even though it would take her 2-3 Turns to mature.

Salina smiled and nodded and beamed and replied to the congratulations sent her way. She felt almost drunk, she was so happy. The giddiness was sweeping through her now but she tried to hold it off, not wanting to look like a complete imbecile. She couldn't keep the large, radiant smile from her face though.
Salina-mine is not an imbecile. If she was, I would not have picked her. Deoneth sounded confident, controlled and yet affectionate all at once. Salina once again marveled at her fate, at the new threshold that was now hers to cross. And then her hand was taken and the congratulations swept over her again.
She was suddenly overtaken in a hug that was warm and wonderful. She knew, even before she heard the jingle of jewelry and saw the crimson hair, that it was Ez. She always knew it was Ez. She hugged him back, tears shining in her gray eyes as she pulled back. "You did, Ez, you did." She beamed, glancing down at the gold lovingly. "You were so right..."
She was whirled away from Ez, metaphorically speaking, as Rhia and Christae stepped into view. With a jolt, Salina realized that she was now on the same level as them, rank-wise, at least. Christae would always be higher, being Senior Weyrwoman, but Salina was a close second. How odd...
The girl nodded, glancing down again at Deoneth. She could sense the waves of impatience rising from the Queen. "Yes, she's very hungry. Food would be brilliant." She smiled, stroking the soft head, feeling the awe riffle through her once more. "This is Deoneth." The gold trumpeted lightly at her name and then nudged at her bonded, nearly sending the blonde sprawling.
I do not like to rush you, but I hunger much. Food now, Mine. Salina nodded and turned, walking across the sands, her gold at her side. She smiled and nodded once more. A celebration was of course in order. She too knew what the Hatching of her Deoneth meant. The dragon in question turned slightly then, eyes whirling happily.
Come, she called to Garisath. I will eat and then we may speak. Even now, just minutes old, she was acting like the Queen she was--as was her due.

Faine didn’t even notice the slight glare that was aimed at her, she was too busy staring at Saline. She was the new Junior Weyrwoman! This was so thrilling! There was also the fact that she had been so close to the new gold, an image that would probably stay with her for a long time. Faine liked hatchings and watchings the new dragonets – even if she was going to be left Standing. It was still fun.
She let her arm slide off of Relina and grinned bashfully at her friend. “Sorry. My hands do things by themselves.” She explained rather lamely. When she walked by people, they often slid into their pockets to see what was in there. Quite often Faine would find herself holding objects that were not hers. Her bashful grin turned into a sly one though.
“You can’t get mad at me because I am an adorable red head?” She offered hopefully. Or maybe it was because even if you did get mad at her, she probably wouldn’t even notice. She nudged Relina slightly and nodded over to Rhia, “Look how happy she is!” The WeyrlingMaster was no doubt quite excited about the fact there was a new gold about.

Relina grinned and chuckled at her friends response. The girl was amusing, that Relina could not deny. She got the sense that this girl was pure, that there was no way this girl would be traitorous to anyone. She looked in the direction Faine point and saw Salina and her gold. Relina smiled as she saw the sheer joy in the new goldriders face, reminding her of her own feelings when Soranith hatched and chose her. As anti-social as Relina was, she still felt happy for others when they found their life-mates, their dragons were theirs and theirs alone, they would never betray their riders. This is why Relina initially wanted a dragon, aside from the fact that a dragon could teach her how to trust again, her dragon would be her life-time friend. Her dragon would love her forever.
And I shall. You will always have an eternal friend in Soranith, mine. I shall always love you and care for you as you do me. Zorn feels the same. We wills always be with you, mine. Soranith assured. Relina smiled and grabbed Soraniths head, cradling it. Zorn came to Relina and wrapped himself around her, also assuring her his compassion for her. Relina looked to Faine and gave a small smile.
"One day, this will be you as well. I can promise that." Relina said, pointing to Salina and herself, basking in the warmth of their dragons love. "If a dragon and a flit can find someone like me worthy to call me theirs, then someone as charming and kind like you should have no trouble finding a dragon, I know it." She said, being uncharacteristically reassuring. Even if Faine truly did not feel bad about being left standing, Relina still felt like she had to say this, like she had to reassure her, though she did not fully understand why.
You are becoming her friend, mine. I am proud. Soranith said, nodding in approval. Relina smiled as she agreed with her dragons words. Faine was her friend, Relina could not deny this. Relina made a promise to Soranith, Zorn, and herself that she would care for Faine as Faine had cared for her.
