He wanted a dignified death – a kiwi bird death.
I didn't understand. He told me about a video, the video, of a kiwi bird who wanted to fly. It nailed trees to the side of the cliff and jumped. In its last moment, it experienced flying.
'I want to die living out my dreams,' he whispered
He wanted to keep living as his t cells kept dying
A laugh slipped out of his mouth and he promised that he would get better and go do the things he loved. I smiled even though we both knew it was a lie. The pain would only go away when it was all
over.

There was nothing dignified about it.
His dreams weren't of having tubes shoved down his throat, into his arms, attached everywhere. They weren't of being confined to a metal hospital bed where we would be stuck listening to his electronic heart beat.
Hearing that beep slow was one hundred times worse than any nails on chalkboards
His dreams would be left unfulfilled.
We were left to tie red ribbons to stuffed kiwis. There's a story behind this (It's easy to guess) The video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdUUx5FdySsI hatehatehatehate this video
