"Auth? Is him big?" Rehan asked. His mother smiled. "Rehan, is he big not is him big." She bounced the girl on her hip, making her giggle. Chiron decided to try to hang upside down from his mother's arms. Christae tossed him in the air and caught him, pretending like she was going to drop him.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Christae paused and turned to ask Rhia a question. "Will Akki be going with you?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Not this time. With Candidates arriving almost daily I would rather have someone here to keep track of them. She will be my represenative here while I am out with the other Candidates.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rehan grinned. "Dragns big! Dragns pretty. I like dragns lots. M-nith is brown. Dere are pretty dragons. I like Ebbth. He blue."
N'kal stood as he watched them, listening to the snipets of conversation that the two were having between them. Of course they weren't really hiding anything from him, simply talking before him. He wondered if this meant that they had accepted him as one of their own? That seemed rather sudden, so he wasn't entirely sure. Although if he was the new Weyrleader that would seem logical for them to do, feel at home around him or at least attempt to make him feel at home. Or perhaps he was looking too much into this, as if he was searching to find something needed from him, or hidden from him. He simply did not know what to do with himself. He had never been a Weyrleader before, nor had he ever been close to one. He wasn't entirely sure what the position was held responsible for. Surely there was more to it than having flown the queen.
He turned his attention back to Rehan, smiling at the boy, "Yes, dragons are big and pretty. Asuth is very big. Smaller than Kaith, but big. And Asuth is bronze," he said to the boy, beginning to rock him from side to side in his arms. Of course he would not toss the boy as Christae was doing with her Chiron, he doubted that Rhianna would like the thought or sight of a perfect stranger chucking her boy into the air. But he could not wipe the smile off his face as he swayed with the boy, children were so addictive with their humor.
"Weyrleader, Rehan means Mneith, my brown. He's the largest brown in the weyr though you wouldn't think it with the way he treats those kids. He thinks it is the funniest thing when they get a hold of my riding gear or pots of medicinal salves and hide them or when I trip on a toy. Ebbeth is the blue of my Assistant Candidatemaster, Akki. She dotes on them as well and Ebbeth is just as bad as Mneith.
I am not bad. The brown spoke in a mildly petulant tone. I just like the little hatchlings.
Rhia laughed. "Mneith says he's not bad, he just likes the little hatchlings. What Weyr are you originally from? I remember Christae saying that you transferred in."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kilzanth waited inpatiently for his rider to settle into the riding straps and then took off, bugling to the watch dragon as he winged high enough to go between safely. He had gotten enough lectures from Rhia and Mneith to last him a lifetime about giving himself enough room to go between without fouling someone. He waited until his rider gave him the signal and vanished. The air was different here, less humid and a bit thinner. He circled over the Harper Hall and bugled a greeting to the dragon that was stationed there. The green sent her greetings and tried to flirt but P'rin reminded the bronze that they were on a mission and didn't really have time to chat.
"Let's land Kil." The bronze spiraled down and P'rin laughed at the way the younger apprentices were staring at the big dragon. "Don't worry, he doesn't bite." He told the ones who had been brave enough to come closer after the dust settled from the dragon's landing. Some runner was having hysterics nearby with just the smell of Kilzanth and P'rin hoped someone had the sense to untether the beast and move him upwind.
"Be good Kilzanth."
I am always good. Go get the Harper. I will keep these little ones entertained.
Just remember that these are not Weyrbrats. They aren't used to you.
I will. Now go.
P'rin walked to the Harper Hall and announced that he was here to pick up whoever the Master Harper had seen fit to send to Dark Moon Weyr. An older man with his hair just starting to grey stood up. He wore a fur cloak despite the heat of the day. "That would be me bronzerider." He held out his hand to shake
P'rin nodded to the lean man and shook his hand. "P'rin and bronze Kilzanth at your service Harper."
"It is a pleasure to meet you dragonrider P'rin and to have a chance to ride on your fine beast. I am Master Benal. I am ready when you are."
"Kilzanth is waiting outside. Are these your things?" The man nodded and P'rin grabbed a few of the sacks that didn't look like they contained instruments. "I'll leave your instruments to you. I wouldn't want to break them. I just know the tools of a Tanner's trade and a dragonrider's." The Harper picked up the other things and followed the lanky lad outside to where his dragon was waiting. The put the Harper's belongings on the dragon and then P'rin helped the man up. He leaped nimbly up from the forearm that Kilzanth had extended and settled the riding straps.
"Have you ever been between Master Benal?"
"No."
"Well get ready for the coldest nothing you have ever felt." P'rin gave Kilzanth the signal and he launched himself into the air carefully. He didn't want to stir up more dust than necessary. A few short moments later and P'rin said "Here we go." They vanished and reappeared over Dark Moon Weyr. "Welcome to Dark Moon Weyr Harper." The dragon bugled to the Watch dragon and winged towards the WW's weyr where the great Queen and her mate were resting. He hovered and P'rin helped the Harper dismount. He took his instruments with him.
"The drudges will take the rest of your things from Kilzanth in the Weyr Bowl. There is a room being prepared for you right now. This way." He led the man into the weyr.
"Weyrwoman Christae, Weyrleader N'kal, I have brought you Master Benal." He bowed to the Weyrleaders.

((OOC: N'kal was replying to Rehan asking "Auth? Is him big" ^_^))
N'kal smiled as Rhianna spoke of her children and her dragon, nodding his understanding. "Children will be children, and dragons will be too," he said, though there was only tenderness in his gruff voice, "Of course dragons are much larger than children, and luckily they do know when they need to buckle down and have duties to do," he said thoughtfully, though he continued to sway young Rehan. He would have to keep names straight, and the names of Rhianna and her Mneith and Akki and her Ebbith would be important for him to remember. He was glad to see women fighting in the wings of this Weyr, as they often had sharper minds in a time of crisis than many men. And of course, a brown or blue would only choose a woman who was willing to do as any other man did. "And I come from Igen," he said in answering her question, once he realized that he had not yet answered it. "Transferred in during the flight. Asuth dropped me off and flew off before I entirely realized that there was a flight going on. I did not know until...earlier, that this was the flight of the Weyrwoman," he admitted. Seemed almost silly, since it was an open flight and he should have heard about it. Obviously his decision in transferring had cut him off from such knowledge.
N'kal looked up from Rehan when Master Benal was led in by P'rin, his swaying stilled as he nodded respectfully to the man, although he was hesitant to speak. He had no need to introduce himself as the young bronzerider had done so for him, so he was at a lack for words. He knew also that this man was used to beautiful voices, the kind that could lull you into a trance if you let them. He wondered if his own gruff and raspy voice would literally harm the man's ears?

OOC: I know. That was in addition to that.
IC:
"Some of them know when to buckle down." She said with a chuckle. "I know some jokesters who still haven't grown out of their Weyrling pranks." She said, thinking of Ebbeth's love of practical jokes.
"Igen, so you are somewhat used to a hot climate. Granted you would be better used to a hot and humid climate if you were from Ista but at least you are not used to the cold of High Reaches or Benden. If I may, I might suggest you keep your head covered during the hot parts of the day and drink plenty of juice and water until you get used to it. Kaith's flight was a bit of a surprise for all of us. We managed to get the young Queen and the greens out of the Weyr just before she woke up from her nap. I left as well. I didn't want Mneith chasing after her."
Master Benal bowed to the Weyrleaders. "It is a pleasure to be here and to meet you. Weyrwoman Christae, I have heard much good of you. Weyrleader N'kal, may I congratulate you on your dragon's success in catching the Queen. I hear you have a problem with your voice that needs a Harper's attention. Whenever you are ready to begin working let me know. If I have your permission I will acquaint myself with your Weyr. You may call on me at any time, however. I would also be delighted if you allowed me to play in your Dining Cavern after mealtimes with your Weyr Harper."

N'kal smiled at the talk of jokesters and weyrling pranks. Few weyrlings were competely levelheaded. He certainly had not been one of those few, though he was not openly mischevious, he tended to be a loner even in his youth. Except Asuth of course, the big bronze had brought so much joy and love into N'kal's life he couldn't help but smile at the bronze as his tail twitched.
He noted Rhianna's statements, nodding in agreement. He would certainly have to drink plenty of water. As for the covering his head, he was uncertain. Of course he knew his skin would burn, but it would also tan in time, and what good would it do to wrap his face up in a new weyr? Even though the time would be short it would be during his first sevendays here, and those were crucial in his mind as he was still trying to get used to everything and have his new riders get used to him. Which sounded awkward even in his thoughts, to have riders.
The statements made by the harper broke into his thoughts. He smiled at the man, although he was suddenly nervous about the whole ordeal. He managed to make himself look calm and at ease, but inside he felt much like a boy again. Asuth reached to him and comforted him, not with words but with the emotions that only a dragon could give. N'kal smiled and nodded at the man, "I thank you for taking the time to help," he said simply, his voice sounding as horrible as ever.

"It sounds like your vocal chords are too tight. You probably also have build up on them. I have some exercises to have you do that will help that. We have Harpers who lose their voices all the time and those exercises usually help. The brownrider gives good advice. I will follow her instructions as well. I wouldn't want to get heat stroke. Do I have your permission to play in the evenings Weyrleaders?"
Christae glanced at N'kal, waiting to see what he would say. She knew it was a trivial matter but she wanted to let him know that she would stand by his decisions unless he gave her a reason not to. This would give him a chance to show that he was ready and willing to take charge even though he had been thrown into the situation unwittingly. "What say you Weyrleader?" Her tone was mild, unreadable. Harpers were not the only ones who needed to be tactful at times. She was looking forward to hearing the Harper sing. The Weyr only had partially trained singers. They were not big enough to really attract a fully trained Weyrsinger. One of the newly graduated Weyrlings was an Apprentice but Christae didn't know if she wanted to continue her training. Perhaps she would ask the girl and see if Master Benal would take over part of her training if she was willing.

N'kal frowned ever so slightly at the talk of his vocal cords. He had dealt with them for so long, that getting them assessed now seemed almost wasteful of the Harper's skills. Then the man asked the question and his eyes darted to Christae. She was the one really in charge of the Weyr, and he was simply barging in on her territory. Or so it was feeling. She had been very kind and welcoming of him, but this was still her reign, was it not?
He blinked as she asked his opinion, his brows furrowed momentarily before he turned to face the Harper, a smile broadening on his face, "I for one quite enjoy Harper skills," he said to the older man, his harsh voice as friendly as could be. If Christae was going to let him choose, then he would simply choose to his own preference. This matter was not one of gravity, merely the simple question of having skillful entertainment from a Harper who would be staying with them for some time. What pride was there in denying the man? What good was there in denying the Weyr? "I would be greatly honored if you would grace us with your craft, Master Benal," he said with great diplomacy. Although the friendliness of tone seemed awkward to him as he had been so long without general conversation, the open kindness was second nature to him. And for one who did not often speak, music and Harper's Tales were wonderful distractions.

The Harper nodded. "I would be honored to play for you Weyrleaders." He bowed to the riders. "If you have no more need of me I would like to get settled in."
Christae smiled warmly, pleased by N'kal's response and the Harper's willingness to perform. "We won't keep you then Harper. I believe your room should be ready by now. I shall have a drudge show you to your room. We have a young greenrider here who came from the Harper Hall. I am not sure if she is interested in furthering her studies but if she is would you like her to sing with you in the evenings?"
The Harper nodded, a smile on his face. "That would be lovely. Just let me know who she is and I will seek her out. I would like to do some exploring and perhaps she would accompany me if she has no other duties?"
"I don't believe she has been assigned to a Wing yet. I can have a message sent to her asking if she would oblige and send her to you when. Just stop any drudge and they can pass on your message." The WW smiled and the Harper made his exit.
Christae turned to the bronzerider. "Well done, P'rin, I thank you."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"It was no problem Weyrwoman. I was glad to be of service." He bowed low to the Weyrleaders. "If you have no further need of me Kilzanth has been complaining that his hide is itching. I'd better oil him before it starts to crack."
That would be most welcome. P'rin tried to hear the sarcasm in his dragon's voice but for once, there was none. Perhaps you are learning some manners?[/color] The bronze snorted and P'rin hid a smile. He didn't want the WLs and his former WLM to think he was smirking at them.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Christae shook her head. "No, you are free to go. Take care of that fine bronze young P'rin."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The lad bowed again. "Good day to you then Weyleader N'kal, Weyrwoman Christae, Weyrlingmaster." Rhia nodded towards her former pupil and he walked out past the sleeping Queen and her mate to where the younger bronze was hovering near the ledge. He leapt astride the dragon and the beast glided across the Weyr to their weyr.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Well, this certainly has been an eventful day so far." Christae smiled.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rhia turned to Christae, a curious expression on her face. She bounced her daughter when she tried to grab her mother's hair and voiced her question.
"You're talking about Anassa of green Priath right?" Christae nodded and Rhia looked thoughtful. "Priath hasn't risen to mate yet. She should be rising soon though. I think it would be good if you did assign her to the Harper to keep her busy. We wouldn't want her to be away from the Weyr for her dragon's first mating flight."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"That's a good point. I hadn't thought about that. She will be Weyrbound until Priath rises then. I'll let her know about it when I send her the message about the Harper requesting her company. Do you think she will mind?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Anassa? No. The girl is always willing to help and I noticed that she likes to hum or sing while she works so I don't think she will mind getting to sing some more. She's even got that little blue flit of hers trilling songs."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Good, she will be set then until her dragon rises."
