Christae was watching Miya take apart the flamethrower an show her how to clean the parts. The Weyrwoman had her own flamethrower in her hand and she was taking it apart to show the younger goldrider the proper way to take it apart and clean it.
She turned her attention away from the other goldrider to check on the progress of the other Weyrlings. Ruanth and Amparath were doing very well for themselves and Hydrath seemed to be getting the hang of it. She turned to the copper and was suprised to see her throwing up ash before she had flamed properly. She saw the grayish tint to the copper's bright hide and alarm bells began ringing in her mind. "Sh'iron, Kylath is regurgitating ash before she flamed. Miya continue doing what I told you to do." She dropped her own flamethrower and ran to the copper. "Kia what happened?"

Sh'iron nodded proudly. "Good job, T'rin. Keep it up," he said, and then turned to K'dan. The Weyrleader was thinking of a comment when he heard Kia. Lifiting his head, the bronze rider saw the copper dragoness walk away and lay down. Head tilted to ones side, he walked over to Kia. "She's showing signs of bad firestone," He said to Christae and walked up to Kylath. "But bad firestone wouldn't be this hard on the dragon." The Weyrleader nodded for the dragon healer who was standing by to come up and check Kylath.

Nike smiled when Ruanth had had the long flame. So she placed two chunks of firestone in the white's mouth, and told her to shew. Come on, you did it before, you can do it now. Second stomach. The Healer chanted in Ruanth's head. And then, the short waiting game came. The white arched her neck, and belched another long, large flame. But it wasn't that much bigger than the last one she did, and smaller than Amparath's. Good job. Nike said as she patted Ruanth's neck. Kia's worried voice turned Nike's attention away from her dragon and to the copper rider. Green eyes darted over to Kylath and looked over the copper closely. She was about to speak, but Sh'iron had said that it was bad firestone. Nike agreed, but she thought it something more. She didn't know what, though. Mabey coppers can't digest firestone like queens. Mabey.

((you are saying that you heard Kia's worried voice but she was speaking mentally to her dragon, it was Christae that spoke))
Christae moved to the copper's head and knelt. "Kia, tell me what Kylath answers to my questions. Does your stomach hurt Kylath?" She heard Sh'iron's suggestion of bad firestone. "Even bad firestone would produce a small flame and it takes a little longer to react if it is just bad firestone."
Christae stood up and walked to the pile of firestone and examined it. "This looks like good quality firestone. We never give the Weyrlings low-grade stone because their bellies aren't as used to it as the older dragons. We always have the older riders pick over the stone to make sure there are no bad pieces to mess up a Weyrling on his or her first flame."
"Kia, how many pieces did you give her? No flame at all? Did all the pieces look like this?" She picked up a chunck and showed it to the copperrider. "I need you to tell me exactly what happened. Kylath, try to spit up all of it. Get it out of your system before it makes you sicker."

K'dan added a couple more stones as told. ~Remember, second stomach. You can do this~, K'dan said to his dragon. Hydrath finally belched and flamed, a good flame too. "Alright Hydrath", he shouted excitedly and slapped the dragon's hide as he jumped. He then looked around and composed himself. He looked worriedly over to Kia and Kylath.

As Miya worked with Christae she constantly peeked over to the others. Amparath and Hydrath had gotten it on their first try. Even the little Ruanth had gotten it. Yet, for some reason, Kylath was having difficulty getting a flame.
The next time MIya looked over the crimson was walking away. At first, she thought Kylath was embarrassed, but then she lowered her head and threw up. Miya wrinkled her nose in disgust.
Christae put down her flamthrower and went over to the crimson dragon, but Miya had to keep on working. She mumbled something when the Sr. Weyrwoman left but she kept doing as she was supposed to. Nevertheless, Miya continued to look over at the commotion. If that crimson could have eggs Miya would be furious.

Kia was panicking on ehr own and the feeling her dragon was having wasn't helping. She tried to stay calm and listen. "I don't know," she said, trying not to cry, "I was feeding her firestone and she wasn't producing flame. I figured it wa sbecause of her size and so did she. She said her stomach hurt a little but just from what she ate so I fed her more and then she went away and..."
Kia listened to Sh'ron but she was so confused. The Weyrling turned her head to the Weyrwoman. She nodded to Christae and waited for an answer from Kylath. The Copper gave a little moan and then mentally spoke. "Mine, my stomach does hurt. It hurts a lot," the dragon mentally cried out.
"Christae, she says her stomach does hurt. And... I gave her eight. But not all at once! and..." The Copperrider looked at the piece carefully. She thought back to what she had seen before. "Yea, I think they did," she said, her voice starting to quiver. Kylath was listening to instructions and kept coughing up ash and stone.

T'rin had more firestone ready for Amparath, but the bronze stopped him, much to his surprise. The copper one is sick, he said. T'rin looked over, and sure enough, Kylath was coughing up ash and looking very pale-hided indeed. I am going to her, Amparath said, strangely protective. The bronze walked the awkward walk of dragons over to Kylath and nuzzled her hide supportively, his eyes whirling a slow yellow-orange.
T'rin was puzzled at his dragon's sudden affection, but wondered more at the snatches of conversation he was hearing. If it wasn't bad firestone, why was Kylath so sick? None of the other weyrllings were having problems. He went through his mind of the different things that could make a dragon sick from firestone. It wasn't bad firestone, and Kia had said she'd only fed Kylath the recommended amount. What else was there? T'rin found himself worrying for the dragon and her rider, more concerned than he thought he would be. He walked over to Kia and squeezed her shoulder briefly, to let her know he was there.

Christae looked thoughtful. "It could be that Kylath is like a Queen and simply cannot stomach firestone. I will go and brew up a tonic that will help her. I found it in the records. It helps when the weyrling dragon isn't mature enough to digest the firestone and regurgitate it properly. I will see what happens after she takes that." The Weyrwoman walked away quickly.
She returned after a few minutes carrying a skin of something. "It will be warm going down and it should help her regurgitate the ash properly. Don't give her any more stone after that. We will wait a bit and then see if she is mature enough to chew after a few sevendays. Until then you will come with me and learn how to use a flamethrower. Kylath will join the Queen's wing until we figure out what is going on."
She turned to her weyrmate. "Do you think that is a good idea because if you don't agree we can discuss the matter further."

Miya continued to work but her eyes narrowed into a glare. She better just be maturing too slowly. Miya thought angrily. She looked back at the group and stared at T'rin and Amparath as they tried to calm Kia and Kylath.
((I didn't have much to post, but I had to post something.))

Kia kept taking deep breaths and tried not to blink. She knew if she did she would cry. Kylath was in great pains as she spit out more and more ash. 'I fed her so much,' Kia thought to herself. She barely noticed everyone staring at them. She didn't really notice anything until a draon whose size matched that of Kylath's cam up and conforted the sick dragon. Kia managed a smiled. Kylath was feeling better too. It was nice to know someone cared.
As Kylath coughed, Kia's smile melted away. She wiped at her eyes and looked sadly at her dragon. She was frozen was fear and couldn't even confort the Copper. Even when she felt a hand on her shoulder it took her a while to notice. It was T'rin. She wiped some tears from her eyes and smiled. After a few seconds she mentally talked again to her dragon. Kylath, are you okay?
"Yes, I think I am."
Both dragon and rider were greatful when Christae brough a hopeful cure. Kylath drank it happily. For a moment her stomach settled a bit and then she coughed up more. This time it was more than before. By now she had a large pile before her. The dragon lowered her head a bit. "I feel, better," she said to the Weyrwoman, the dragon beside her, Kia, and T'rin.

T'rin smiled back at Kia, who was crying. When Christae gave them the stuff, T'rin hoped it would work. Amparath nuzzled Kylath's hide as she drank it down, saying You will be alright, now.
When Kylath voiced that she felt better, T'rin gave a sigh of relief, and Amparath bugled, and though the bronze had tried not to do it too loudly, T'rin still flinched at the boom of noise. He squeezed Kia's shoulder again, and smiled a little. He hoped that Kylath would stay okay, because she would be invaluable, come Threadfall, and losing her would be a blow to the whole weyr.

K'dan watched as T'rin and Amparath comforted Kia and Kylath. He raised an eyebrow but said nothing. The copper seemed to be doing better now but the copper would now be in the queen's wing. Not chewing firestone but using a flamethrower. He wondered to himself why Kylath wasn't taking the firestone well. Hydrath was perfectly fine with it. He thought about the possibility of her being more like a queen dragon, that was after all a good explanation to it. Though K'dan thought of the copper more like a bronze, big but able to use firestone unlike a queen. Many things he wondered about this dragon. Though it was a new color as well, so maybe there was something else to be considered. Oh well, he just let the thought pass by him and would wait and see what came. Only time would be able to tell he supposed. He would hold off on trying to get Hydrath to flame again until everything settled down and everyone was ready to get back to lessons. He looked over at Nike and smiled, he noticed Ruanth flame. While everyone was with Kia he walked over to Nike, not that far away from himself. He placed a hand on her shoulder and rubbed it softly. "Good job. I saw Ruanth. She did well", he said with a smile. "She even produced a flame before Hydrath", he continued to compliment.

Christae nodded with satisfaction. "In a few sevendays we will try her again on the firestone and we will make sure it is not bad stone. The rest of the W'lings will continue with their lesson. Kia, come with me while Kylath is recovering. You will have to learn to use a flamethrower." She turned to Miya. "Tomorrow the two of you must meet me at dawn. You will practice your drills in midair with your flamethrowers. Then you will demonstrate proper post Fall care of your throwers and dragons. Miya you will have to help me with the injured dragons and riders after Threadfall so you will have to check your equipment after that is dealt with."
