It is the 18th pass on Pern and a lot of devastating and life changing events have happened in the pass centuries. AIVAS was discovered in the 9th pass and his plan to eradicate thread was set in motion. Things seemed to be going according to plan and Pern prospered with the new technologies that AIVAS taught. The pass ended with what every thought would be the end of thread. A long interval then began in what people thought would be an eternal interval. They were wrong. Five hundred years passed and all of a sudden one clear day the unthinkable happened. Thread came back. Pern was nearly destroyed and hundreds of thousands lost their lives including the mighty dragonriders. Emergency actions were put in motion and humanity on Pern pulled together to survive.
More passes and intervals came and went. People now were use to the idea of thread falling on their planet and were prepared for it. The weyrs prospered. A pandemic then struck Pern once again and devastated the planet, leaving the weyrs desolate and the holds sparse. Humanity is a hard beast to kill and once again from the ashes people fought back to rebuild their world. Pern saw peace for many turns after that. Sometime around the 16th pass Pern found itself the victim of a horrible meteor storm. Most of the meteors either passed by Pern or burned up in it's atmosphere. Unfortunately there was still enough to get through and strike the surface to do more damage than thread ever did. The people were not prepared for it, nor did they have any way to stop it. On large meteor dove into the ocean and the tsunami that was created by it wiped out all of the settlements on the southern coastline. Smaller ones struck the continents leaving horrible scars on the planet's surface. The largest meteor to get through struck the northern continent in the Benden area. No one still in the area made it out alive.
After the storm quit, so much dirt and dust was thrown into the air by the meteors that the sun was blocked for almost an entire turn. Not only was a lot of the holds destroyed by the meteors, but thanks to the sun being blocked crops would not grow. The leaders of the world that was left had to decide what was best for those who were still alive. After another two turns of debating and planning and founding out how many survivors were left, it was decided that the best course of action would be to find a place that was large enough to house the whole of the people. The population of Pern was dwindled to only a handful of what it use to be. The only place logical to be made into a new home was the huge crater that was left on the eastern coast. The crater that was made from the meteor was so large it took a dragon half an hour to fly straight across it.
It took a lot of hard work and dedication, but eventually the crater was turned into a fairly decent home. The crater was naturally divided by a small wall. The smaller section of the crater was made into the hold and the larger part was made into the weyr. Two intervals and a pass later and life is back to normal. The hold was named Juniper Hold and the weyr was named Golden Skies Weyr. Things are run a bit differently than they were in the old days, but life is fairly good. The crater is getting a bit crowded and tensions are beginning to rise. What will be in store in the near future?
This is a brand new weyr and we are in need of everything. There is a wher clutch of 6 and a dragon clutch of 15 in need of candidates. The weyrleader position is up for grabs. The next gold to rise will be given the honor of Weyrlady and Junior Gold. The male to catch her will be the Junior Bronze and his rider the Weyrsteward. Masters in all crafts are needed, and characters interested in running for the council seat for Juniper Hold.
Here is what Golden Skies can offer you.
-There is no character approval, once you make a character consider them accepted. If there is a problem an admin will PM you about it.
-A fun environment in a future Pern that is a bit more technologically advanced than 9th pass Pern.
-This is a semi-canon Pern rpg. Mutants do pop up every now and then.
-This is a very laid back sight where the players are the driving force in the plot line.
-THERE IS NO LIMIT ON GOLD AND BRONZE RIDERS!!!!
