The dragons lining the sands began to keen, a painful, throbbing sound that wrenched everyone's hearts intheir chests. Lelia felt rather than knew the tears spilling down her face, hot and salty. Her hand rested on Lindilith's head as the little blue let out a keening wail of it's own.
The next egg hatched to the sound of a Queen's Death.

Nike's face fell as she saw the queen go between. How could the queen die down? But now the new queenrider would become the Sr Weyrwoman. Nike wiped away tears. She could feel Zim crooning for the bigger, now dead queen.

ooc: *falls over from joy* eeeee ;D *tackles*
ic: Cristae, for a moment, just stared at the wonderful, beautiful dragon at her feet. How? Her? The gold? It felt like her heart had stopped. A thousand thoughts raced through her mind, but she was already kneeling, throwing her arms around the dragon.
Yes you have! Oh, Kaith, you are so beautiful. The name sounded wonderful, and she knew that she would always have that companion to go to. Now and forever.
Yes. You are mine and I am yours. And I hungry greaty right now. Is there food nearby?
Of course, let's get you fed. Cristae said, getting up and leading the little queen off the Sands.

The little pale brown dragonet stumbled out, whining softly, not knowing what the sound was, and yet knowing what had happened allt he same. He let out a desperate wail as he realized that his clutch mother was gone. But still the hunger flodded his eyes and he moved into the crowd, his whimpers getting softer as he looked at the candidates.

Lelia led her blue to the table, picking up a bowl of raw meat and sitting down. She fed the starving dragon, tears blurring her vision and making Lindilith look like two dragons instead of one.

ic: And then Kaith let out a sound that could only mean one thing. Whirling in place, Cristae only saw gold Heleth disappear. What! Admin's Note:
Now! The Weyr needed the gold, even if she was older!
Cristae stood there, shocked to the heart, hand still on Kaith's head as they watched in silent horror.

The sounds of the hatching echoed through the corridors of the weyr as the candidate who just arrived tore through them. Also the keening of dragons filled the weyr. Tobias cursed under his breath as the white robe he had just put on in the candidates barracks kept trying to trip him and that he didn't know what had happened. He had been forced to make a detore mainly to drop his stuff off and put the robe on but he didn't really want to waste anymore time. As he got nearer to the hatching grounds, the boy slowed to a walk to catch his breath. He nervously ran his fingers through his dark hair as finally made it and entered the grounds. It seemed that four or so dragonets had impressed, one of which was a queen. That was always a good sign. But unfortunatly the old queen had just died it seemed. He quickly took his place with the fellow candidates. (Meh kinda lamish post but I'm here. Yay ^_^)

Wait, Kaith, you need to be fed. Cristae said, though her eyes filled with tears.
She continued to lead the gold to the feeding tables, grabbing a bowl and starting to feed her. This clutch, the one that her and her friends had Impressed at, was the Queen's lasting memory. They'd bring the Weyr back to full strength, they had too.

The brown stopped in front of Rior, gazing upward with a confused, helpless stare.
[glow=tan]RiorMine, what has happened? Why is this sound here? What has happened, Mine? What? What? Your Jesseth is so confused...what? What?[/glow]
Despair colored the mental voice of the hatchling, and for reasons he could not comprehend.

Rior started to clap for the Cristae’s impression but his attention was drawn to Heleth and her bugle. As soon as he turned to look at her she disappeared before his very eyes. She’d gone between, and Cylene lay on the ground. The dragons started to keen for the queen’s death. A few tears fell from the boys eyes, usually he’d be embarrassed by such a thing but he felt no shame now. He wiped a couple tears away with his sleeve and turned sadly back to the eggs, another one was hatching.
ooc: EEP very late post ^^

Nike couldn't make herself clap for the brown Impressed. She lifed her hands up, and slowly clapped. Today was bad for some, and happy for others.

Two more eggs began to crack as the mourning wails died off, and Lelia forced herself to turn away from the sight of Cylene's body being removed from the sands to the two new eggs.

The first of the two eggs cracked to reveal the slick hide of a light green dragonet, another enthusiastic, agile threadfighter on the way. It stepped heavily fromt he wreckage of the eggshell and let out a keen of pain as a piece of shell sliced it's foot. The drips of crimson blood stained the sand as the green made it's way toward the remaining candidates.

Nike didn't look as they removed the old Weyrwoman's body. She then looked at the two new eggs. Now what colors would those be?

Tobias looked away from the body of what he guessed to be the old weyrwoman to see a brown impress and then another green hatch. He clapped gently from the boy who impressed the brown and then he watched the new dragonet

"Oh no!" Rahera shook her head. "No no no!" She had been so intent on feeding Jaith that she missed the past several Impressions, and the death of the Weyrwoman. How insensitive of her!
You are not insensitive! Jaeth said comfortingly. It is sad, but she was very old... She added a sad bugle.
Still shaking her head, she saw Cristae with the queen. Eyes wide with excitement, Rahera ran to her, nearly attacking her. "CONGRATULATIONS!! What's her name?"
I am still hungry! Jaeth said, a trifle annoyed. With a weak chuckle, Rahera returned to her green dragonet.
ooc: a wee bit late, lol

It was a brown! A pale little brown dragonet he looked slightly confused. Rior watched as the brown moved closer and closer to him. And then he heard a voice in his head. It was the brown dragonet, he’d impressed! But the joyous moment was still drowned out by the mourning for the queen. Rior knelt down next to Jesseth, his Jesseth and scratched the brown’s eyeridges lovingly. He wasn’t sure how to explain what had happened to his brown. He was a Harper at a loss for words, surprising. Finally he spoke his voice mirroring the despair in the brown’s, “Your, your clutch mother, Heleth, went between Jesseth.” He scratched the brown’s eyeridges again; “The other dragons are in mourning for her.” He was beginning to feel Jesseth’s hunger in his own stomach. “Come Jesseth, we must get you some food.” The little brown got slowly to his feet and followed Rior to the feeding tables. Rior grabbed a bowl of meat for Jesseth and dropped down to the ground to feed Jesseth, slowly of course, he didn’t want Jesseth to choke.
ooc: Hehe, the beginning of mine is late the rest is pretty much on time *nods*

The second egg cracked to show a patch of glinting hide, in bronze. The crowd let out a cheer...the first bronze! The little bronze wavered slightly and moved towards the slowly shrinking crowd of candidates.[/img] (picture coming, one sec...)
