Ooc: All Hatching posts will be in Lime Green. That way we can differentiate from the psots about Lelia and the posts that involve the eggs. So if you really want to ignore the Lelia posts in order to read about the eggs, you can feel free. ^^
Ic: It was just before dawn when the dragons began to hum. The throaty sound reverberated throughout the weyr, waking the runnerbeasts who stamped in their stalls, waking the drudges who slept by the kitchens, alerting the watchwher after the dullness of it's nighttime patrol. Slowly the pre-dawn light coming in to the Hatching Sands through the mouth of the huge cave was speckled by dragons, one by one sailing in, some with sleepy riders on their backs, some without. The bronzes, browns, blues and greens settled around the sands, their steady thrum waking all in the weyr who slept. The intense excitement filled the eyes and hearts of all who were there.
Golden Heleth reclined regally near the eggs, her hide neatly shined and bright. Cylene stood beside her, splendid in a pale yellow gown of light cotton. No velvets were suitable for the heat of the sands. The eggs themselves seemed to pulse with enthusiasm, all fourteen of them sitting like ticking bombs, nestled in the pale, fine sand.
Lelia woek to Sprout barking excitedly in her ear, chewing on her hair like she only did when she was agitated or excited. She yawned and looked up groggily, pushing Sprout off the bed, eliciting a sharp squeak from her. In a moment she realized what was happening,a nd sat bolt upright. Within a minute, she was up, face washed, hair combed, white Candidate's robe hanging neatly over her slight frame . She slipped on the light sandals and ran top speed out of the Barracks, Sprout hot on her heels.
When she reached the door, she confined Sprout outside, handing her to a nearby surprised young servant girl. Lelia gave a small smile of thanks and promised a few Marks for her petsitting. The girl looked overjoyed, kissing Sprout's furry head ecstaticaly.
Lelia burst into the sands, bowing deeply to the weyrwoman, eyes shining bright with happiness and expectancy. She took her place on the sands, straightening her robes nervously, suddenly in awe of the huge, hulking yet graceful oblong shapes in the sands.
She could see the drudge out of the corner of her eyes, holding Sprout, both of them watching, tense, as the dragons' hum grew more insistent.

Cristae was in fact awake when the first hum reverberated through the Weyr. She'd been at Dark Moon for a full sevenday now and had managed to fall asleep pretty quickly that night, but had woken up about an hour ago. Not wanting to wake anyone else up, she had just laid on her cot and stared out the window that was next to it, thinking.
She could at first feel the vibration in her bones, then not even a second later the sound, clear and strong in her ears. Reacting, she shot out of bed and pretty much threw the white candidate robe over her head. Running a brush through her dark brown hair, she decided to not pin it up for once. This was a special day, even if she didn't Impress.
But wait, she couldn't be negative. Never give up. That had always been her personal quote. She looked around the barracks as her friends also got ready. This was her home now, these were her friends, and she wished all of them luck.
Putting her small dagger under her pillow, she got up, long legs lengthening her stride as she made for the door. The crisp night air was welcome to her, and she stopped for a moment to take in the beauty of the area as it was right before dawn. Taking a breath, she continued to the Hatching Grounds.
She smiled to herself as she entered, taking in the whole scene before her. Shifting her feet repeatedly so they wouldn't feel the heat too much, she managed a mostly graceful bow to gold Heleth and her rider. Stepping back, Cristae joined her fellow candidates, dark brown eyes now on the rocking eggs. This was it.

In the candidates barracks, deep with sleep, lay Remin. Lighted short brown hair flailed over her face drifting upward comically with her short breath’s. Her paled skin which was infact begining to tan ampilfied her hair, which reflected feebled rays of light onto the candidate’s cot. It did need a good scrub. With the rather loud bugle Remin fell from the cot staggering like a man who had a bit to much to drink the night before. It took a few dim moments for her mind to conectthe bugling with something else. “Hatching?” She muttered dryly. Remin darted to the corner searched for her candidates robes (which was fraying desperatly at the arm holes) Remin flung it on with haste. Not bothering to look for her sandals, she flung on her wherhide boots which were laying by the entrance. Remin shook her head causing her hair to become...more than a bit messy as it normally was. Passing thourgh the halls with a clumsy sort of grace, only obtainable if you were infact Remin. She bumped into a few people weyrbrats and oldtimers. "Pfft who cares" She muttered as she entered the grounds. She bowed to the massive clutch mother narrowing her blueish eyes as she raised her head. Remin looked to where she was required to stand. Every inch of herself and soul burned with unwanting. To stand near them. She, herself consideres most femals to be weakened, and unworthy of time.

[By Nike]
Nike woke to a soft hum coming from Zim. "Why are you humming?" Nike asked her gold flitt. Then she heard the louder hum from the dragons. The hatching!
Nike jumped up and put her Candidate robes on. She then pulled her long red hair up. "Zim, do not go near the sands." Nike told her flitt as she dashed out of the room.
As Nike approached the sands she slowed down. As soon as her thin sandaled feet touched the hot sands, she winced. She slowly walked over to the other females. Once she did, she bowed to the queen and the Weywoman. And then just waited.

[By Akki]
Akki also woke, by the continous humming of the dragons and by Sargon cherping in her ear nervously, distraught from the humming that was heard throughout the entire place. "Get off you silly critter"Akki mumbled, pushing Sargon off the bed.
Then her eyes flew open, the dragons were humming because the hatching today! She jumped out of bed, startling Sargon who once again chirped over and over again angrily. She was so in tune with her dream she forgot today was the day it will change her life better of for worse. All she could do was hope that her new-found friends Impressed, though she had a feeling they would with their electrigying personalities.
She noticed some people were already gone and others were just beginning to stir. It felt weird that this was to be her home for a while, and that she might have a new responsibility. She stopped for a moment to look at her new friends and silently wish them the best of luck before striding out towards the hatching grounds.
She stopped short of the grounds to calm down and make sure she looked alright for this great event. She rubbed the sleep off her eyes and strode onto the sands, ignoring the fact they were scalding her feet with ever step.
She ran a hand through her hair to make sure no knots were in it, though the trembling of her hand could have messed it up as it was before she ran a comb in it. She quickly checked her Candidates robe was on properly. Her thin sandals were barely protecting her feet from the heat of the sands but she tried her best to ignore it.
She bowed to the Weyrwoman and the Queen before taking a spot near the other candidates, her friends. Penetrating eyes gazed at the shapes that laid in the sand, some were crooked in the sand and yet they could never be more flawless and graceful.
She looked at her friends and falshed them a small smile to show them that she wished them luck for the hatching. She hoped that Sargon would understand why he was left in the barracks, in fear he might interuppt the hatching.
She continued to thikn about that fact until the humming grew louder, and her ears ringed with the sound of the dragons. This was to be a memorable day, no matter what happened.

Rior grumbled into his pillow when the humming started. He was somewhere between asleep and waking up. He could hear the humming but his groggy mind couldn’t comprehend what it was quite yet. Tired of the annoying rumbling Rior pulled his pillow over his head trying to block out the sound. It was then he realized what the humming was. The hatching! The boy attempted to leap out of his bed but got tangled in his sheets and fell to the ground.
Soon he disentangled himself from the sharding sheets and found his white candidate’s robe. When he had glanced at it the other day he was sure it would be entirely too long but when he put it on it barely skimmed the ground, surprising. There was no time to ponder that, he had a hatching to get to. Rior didn’t bother looking for a comb he merely ran his hand through his hair a couple of times trying to flatten his hair. He succeeded for the most part, though there were several spots where his hair stuck up in the back.
Now where were his sandals? Shards, he was going to be late for the hatching all because of his sandals. Thoughts of all the eggs being hatched before he got there sped up his feverish search. Where were they? Ah, under the bed, why of all places would they be there. Shaking his head he slipped on the sandals and ran off to the hatching grounds. A new thought struck him. He’d never been to the grounds to touch the eggs; he’d never even seen them! Maybe touching the eggs before hatching didn’t always work, he had to hope for that.
Sighing he reached the hatching grounds, he hadn’t tripped on his robe once. Rior nervously ran his hand through his hair once more then stepped out onto the sands. He could feel the heat through the soles of his sandals. The lad took several more steps forward then bowed low to the golden queen and her rider. He straightened and then took a few steps back from the eggs; he wasn’t quite sure where he should stand since there weren’t any other male candidates. He didn’t want to stand out on the sands by himself so he joined the end of the line that the girls were forming.

Rahera felt and heard the humming. Her first reaction was irritation. Why did the eggs have to hatch now, when she in a dead sleep?! But it was the Hatching! And that certainly cooled her off! She rolled out of bed onto the floor, figuring her body hitting the floor would wake her up. Funny how fuzzy your mind was when you were still kind of asleep. But her head hit the floor with a sharp slam, and she moaned in pain. Massaging her head, she groaned again when she realized that her brown hair was poofing up again. Where did she put her robe again? She threw her clothes unceremoniously onto her bed, searching for the one robe that she would meet the dragons in. Ah, here it was! Rahera picked it up, and changed into it as fast as she could, which wasn't easy when you realized halfway through that she was trying waer the thing backwards! Slipping her sandals on her feet(she didn't feel like looked for anything heavier), she ran out the door, sliding on the floor and nearly hitting her head against a wall. She stuck her arms wildly out in front of her, and slowed her pace. It was a happy day, so she shouldn't look like a miserable child! She stopped, and held her head erect and smiled, turning red when she realized her hair was still uncombed. She jutted her chin out defiantly, showing anyone she passed that she was making some sort of statement. At last, on the Hatching Ground, she walked proudly, a thousand thoughts flooding through her still aching head, not any of them reassuring. She bit her lip at the heat coming up through her sandals, but told herself it would be worth it if she managed to Impress! And what was heat to a dragonrider?

The dragons humming grew deeper and more frantic as the candidates filtered in. The eggs squatted ont he sands, the tension in the air was so thick that you could cut it with a knife. As the older dragons flew in, more and more, Cylene felt her heart thudding in her chest. Heleth's eyes whirled a tense, nervous, and proud purple. This was it - their last chance at reviving the weyr.

Lelia waved tentatively at Rior and moved over to join him. "I'm so scared and nervous and excited all at the same time! Do you know what I mean?" She whispered to him, fidgeting on the sands.

Rior smiled when Lelia waved and came over. He nodded, “I know exactly what you mean.” He bit his lip. “But it will be worth it if, I mean, when we impress.” He corrected remembering their pinky-swear.

The dragon's humming reached an almost frantic pitch, until the crowd felt it vibrating in their very bodies. Suddenly a spridery crack split the first egg. It was a medium-sized egg, and the thin, dark line ran it's way quickly down the creamy, marbled shell of the egg.
Lelia's breath caught in her throat as she watched the egg, all eyes were focused on that one oblong shape in the middle of the cavern. Lelia felt her heart thudding, and imagined that everyone could hear it, it was so loud.

ooc: *yippy* (I do still work tonight though, lol)
ic: Cristae smiled as she was joined by others. She'd met so many new people. Spotting Rahera, she made her way over.
"I'm so excited, nervous, and determined. This is so crazy!"
Her breath caught in her throat as the first egg cracked. Oh, what would it be, who would it Impress to?

Remin watched as more candidates filled in. Feeling a bit more contented than she did, when she first came in. Still a bit disgruntled, tired, spazzed, but above all. EXCITED! Today could be destiny for all of them. The fine clutch before them posed all sorts of oppotunitys for future dragon riders.
She watched gaining a bit more energy from the aderniline(sp?) that was cuased be the moment. All of the candidates moment of truth.
Remin was rather confident and doubtfilled both at once, if it must be described. And Rather pleased as well. She leaned back and watched the shaking eggs and listend to the deep humming coming form the already riders. She grew nervous as well as the humming grew frantic and quick.
The first egg had cracked! She watched with peeling eyes tio see its colour. Bronze always symbolized luck as a first hathcling. Oh it didn't matter to her much as long as it was a well adn capable dragon.
