((I really had no clue if this should go here or not but she is not really in the weyr so....here goes..anyone can join because I honestly don't know how I am going to get her in the weyr yet. ))
A little form floated in the middle of a vast lake. She lay relaxed and on her back staring up . Oddly enough this was her way of thinking. Some tried pacing, others had a "thinking" chair, and some older folk even smoked their pipes making great round rings but Sorcha laid on the water. Sometimes she closed her eyes and rested but most of the time she stared up at the clouds and undersides of the leaves when the wind pushed her under one. A deep sigh escaped her as she floated.
She now knew with certainty that she must do something to stop her step-mom. It must be something drastic enough that she would leave and never come back. She thought, as she often did, of what she might do. All the old useless thoughts returned. Try to hire some mercenaries to route her out? But then I don't have any gold. Run away and never return. But what then of the staff and siblings. Admin's Note:[/hr] I could always tell the staff to quit but there is no way I can take care of two little children by myself.
Sorcha was the oldest resident child there. The others had moved as soon as they had grown old enough to. She didn't blame them but it didn't help her. Sorcha sighed as the last and least probable thought entered her mind. To get a dragon and use it to make her go away. While it didn't cost anything and didn't make her leave the dragons weren't just handed out. How on earth would she get one? She couldn't just walk into the weyr and demand one could she? It seemed that in desperate situations the mind always latched on to the craziest idea.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A month later a dirty and slightly bedraggled Sorcha would arrive at the wagon trail that lead up to the weyr. She had not faltered during the long, hard journey here but now she faltered at the trail. Now she had doubts about what to do. She had purposely put off planning what she would do to get them to give her a dragon. with determination had wiped away all doubts that there might not be eggs to steal. but now here facing the gates she stopped. A worse thought entered her mind what if there were dragons but they didn't want to give her one? Sorcha's face set, she wouldn't give them a chance to say no. She would find the eggs and steal one and reclaim her home. With that thought in mind the girl went about finding a discreet way into the weyr. Perhaps enough innocent asking could produce a way to get in without being seen.
She wouldn't leave her two little siblings to that woman. It didn't matter anymore that they were only her half siblings. They were family and so deserved any effort she could make to get them out of the clutches of her stepmom.
The watchdragon loosed a challenging cry from his post. A few moments later, Kaith bugled from the fireheights. The tithe train was coming along with some Traders. Christae sighed as she walked out of her weyr. She had just finished logging all of the last train in a sevenday ago and now she would have to begin again. Mentally, she berrated herself for complaining. At least some of the holders were tithing. As small as the weyr was, it still needed supplies for a lot of people and a lot of dragons.
She realized that she had forgotten her logs and ran back up the stairs to fetch the hide and a bottle of ink. She hurried back down in time to see the procession enter the tunnel that led to the Weyr. The tunnel was the only way in or out of the Weyr besides adragonback. There had never been any reason to close off the weyr so there were no doors or gates at the entrance. The Watchdragon alerted the Weyr of any newcomers before they entered. The Weyr was never taken by suprise.
Christae waited until the train had entered the Weyr Bowl and went forward to greet the messenger from the Hold and the Lilencamp CaravanMaster. The descendants of Joel Lilencamp had kept up his tradition of Trading and they occasionally stopped at Dark Moon to trade with the riders and weyrfolk.
Sorcha watched as some wagons rolled by towards the weyr then melted in the crowd of traders looking for the group of kids where she might continue to stay unnoticed...perhaps she would later figure out a way to get further in the weyr but she wasn't going to let this particular oppurtunity go by without trying it.
Dicer stood to the side as he watched all the people before him. He raised a brow as he saw a girl dart around from place to place and finally settle into a crowd of kids. Well what do we have here? Do I sense trouble on the rise? Dicer always had a good nack for knowing when trouble was about to start and who would cause it and often found himself in the midst of it. Always seeming to be at the right place at the right time. He watched the girl with his green eye, the other covered as usual. His cloak covered the rest of him, always having that mysterious dark look. He wore nothing but black it seemed and that black cloak always over him, of course it also doubled to hide the blade under it. The blade was longer than most any knife and was kept clean and sharp by its owner. His eye would stay focused on the girl and not leave her, he just knew she was up to no good and gave a bit of a smirk to that thought.
Blue met green as Sorcha noticed someone watching her. He seemed to already be living here, what better way to get in than try to get a tour or something? She tilted her head and watched him watch her for a second before walking over to him. He didn't seem the most friendly of sorts but if he was a way she was going to use him for all he was worth.
She took a quick glance to make sure no one else was paying attention before calmly walking over to him. With a self assertive air she smiled and jerked her thumb at those behind her, "Traders huh? They could take hours haggling over some of their wares leaving me to total boredom...care to show me some of the sights?" She hoped he would be obliging enough to get her someone where she could hide and ditch him so no one knew where she was.
"A tour of this weyr? Are you sure that is what you really want?", he asked her and allowed her to make of it what she thought. Does this girl think I was born yesterday? But he was intrigued by what trouble she might be able to cause and wanted to know her true agenda for being here. He stood from leaning against the wall. As he walked as if to take her around the weyr he waited until no one was around. "So tell me what is your true reason for being here? You honestly don't expect me to believe you came with those traders now do you?", he asked her in his normal rude tone. He wasn't to be double crossed either, one hand was hidden under his cloak since before she came up to him and now that she was with him it rested on the hilt of the knife that lay concealed under the black cloak. He stopped when he spoke and had his back turned to her and didn't look in her direction. No one was around and he would get the answers and the girl would not escape, he was too quick for that. Trying to out trick Dicer was not an easy task, he had a quick wit about him and was hardly caught off guard.
Sorcha nodded then followed the guy as they went into the halls. She stopped a little stunned as he asked what she was doing. She suddenly became nervous as she saw that no one was around. As she looked at him she took in his dark persona and suddenly became less self assered of her plan but it was way too late to back out of the situation now. She displayed more of that false bravado that she flaunted whenever she needed it,"What makes you think I am not with the traders eh?" She added a smile but as his back was to her it probably didn't help much.
She had stopped a few steps behind him and looked around once more uneasily, she didn't want anyone to know what she was doing because she was afraid of someone trying to kick her out. It didn't seem like this was the kind of guy who was a goody good but still she should try to get out with saying the least if she could. Her little mind turned its wheels of thought as she waited for his reply wondering what HIS game was. If he knew that she wasn't on the up and up what was his reason for getting her further inside? She doubted it could be total curiousity that made him do it. She shrugged a little and waited figuring the answer would show itself soon enough.
"Don't worry how I know. You never answered my questoin", he said to her. His back was still turned to her and his hand still rested on the hilt of the knife under his cloak. "If you want any further into this weyr you better answer me", he said to her. He knew that much anyway. Did she need this place to hide or to escape from somewhere or someone? Hm he would know soon enough. He could tell she was putting him on now, it showed more than before. She was nervous and he knew it.
Sorcha's breath caught a bit as he spoke. She put her bangs behing her ear with two fingers looking around once more. It had all seemd so easy at the pond before starting out here. All she had to do was sneak into a weyr and now that she was here it seemed a whole lot harder. Now someone was asking a question she didn't want asked and didn't look to be a pushover either. She stared at the guys back and blushed a bit as another totally unrelated thought entered her mind. She put her hand to her hot cheek then straightened her rumpled shirt a little, sighing.
Soon she had her composure and straightened up more, "Well how do you expect someone to talk to you properly if you keep your back to them? You know some people are more forth coming when they feel like they are being talked to." One hand went to her hip as she suddenly flared to a little indignation, right now she didn't know if she was acting or really miffed. She stared at the back of his head waiting for an answer.
"Whether I turn to look at you or not is irrelevent to answering a question. Now if you want to go any further you had better tell me what you are here for. Keep evading the question and Iwill start to get angry", he said once again in his rude tone. He knew if this girl wanted any farther into the weyr she would need his help. She was now playing the game by his rules, not the other way around.
She shook her head angrily. "I believe I could get plenty far without your help. I don't need you" She bit her lip hoping that it was true. She flicked her bangs back from her eyes in annoyance as she thought of the implications his last statement might mean. She didn't like being pushed around. She came here to do something and wouldn't be stopped by such a person even if he was....
She viciously stopped the thought and stared straight ahead not thinking anymore about it.
"You want to bet. The Weyrwoman here likes to be notified of every visitor here and so no one is just allowed to walk in here. Yes you need this weyr for something and I can tell you right now, no one else would help you. You have two options. One, You tell me what you are doing here and accept my help on my terms or two, you go back to where ever you came from", he said to her. This time he turned to face her. His green eye narrowed and looked directly at her eyes. It was like he pierced her very soul when he looked at her, the look alone would have sent chills down anyone's spine. Dicer was not one of the good guys and he was no longer going to toy with this girl. Either she gave him the answers to his question or she would leave. Either way he had her trapped in a corner, like a predator cornering it's prey. His hand was still under his cloak resting on the hilt of the blade and it wasn't visible that he did so. Now the other arm was tucked under the cloak, Dicer looked like a dark shadow. All dressed in black and his dark brown hair as well. The only coloration was his slightly tanned skin and his green eye, making him almost a terror to look on in a dark, deserted hallway such as this. Fear was a favorite element of his, though unintended often on his part, it still worked to his favor.
Sorcha flinched a little as he turned around and she really looked at him. She shook her head, "I don't..." Then stopped and listened to the rest of what he said. She took in a breath and let it out with a shudder. The shudder wasn't totally from fear either, in a weird kind of way this ...darkness he exuded interested her.
She wondered if it would have been better to be picked up by one of the good guys, she wasn't sure yet that he didn't plan to just kill her once he knew what she wanted to do. But if he was already to kill what was she planning on doing? Run...she didn't know her way around and couldn't risk getting caught. She knew at least that he wasn't totally on the up and up. So maybe he would help her. She wasn't totally sure she could take him either, sure she was good in fights and had quite a few of her own but his self confidence spoke of doing a little more than backyard brawls.
Her eyes traveled over his body once more wondering what he concealed under the cloak. She shrugged again knowing that all she was doing was stalling now. She bit her lip a little and looked around again. Seeing no one she looked back at those green eyes. "Fine." She had known once she had gotten to the wagon trail and seen that it wasn't exactly like what she had thought it to be that she would have to change some of her plans. She would just have to tell him a little of what she wanted from the weyr but that didn't mean she was going to gush out all the details let him try to pick the correct questions. "I am doing what every young person is doing here. I am trying to get a dragon, I just don't want anyone to know I am on the offchance they say no." She shrugged as if it meant not overly much. She knew that she had already displayed too much anxiety and fear for that ploy to work well but there was nothing she could do about it now.
"You came here to get a dragon huh? Why not be searched like the rest of the candidates. No you wouldn't sneak around just to stand as a candidate and try to impress a dragon. There are other less conspicous ways to do that. Perhaps your intended purpose is to 'get' a dragon but it's obvious you aren't going about it like every other candidate and another thing you need this weyr for more than that. That much is obvious. All you gave me was a half truth, if that", he said to her. I think I have this girl figured out now. He gave a bit of a smirk to that thought. She is going to need this place to hide as well. "I am your only option and I am the only one who can hide you but don't think I do this for free. If you accept my help then this little game of yours is played by my rules and you owe me big time", he said coming out of the blue with that. The more she gave away the better but at this point Dicer knew he had the girl figured out. The tone of his voice never changed and he gave that demeanur (sp?) that boasted of self confidence. He had a strong and overwhelming personality and he knew at this point that he had this girl backed in a corner with no escape.
She nodded, "Yeah a dragon. " She sighed knowing the truth of what he spoke. "Fine what do you want to know and where can we go that you know we won't be caught by a wondering person?"
Sorcha didn't like being trapped and as the oldest sibling living in her hold had never really been in this situation before because she could always pull rank but now he had the upper hand and he knew it. She shook her head slightly waiting for his answer.
"Well for starters why are you wanting to hide here and don't say to get a dragon", he asked her. About time she gave in. I wasn't going to play around with this girl for much longer. "I know a couple of discarded rooms in a more deserted part of this weyr. I have explored this place a good bit", he said to her. This part especially being that he didn't like people he wanted to get away from them and this was one of few places he could be rid of them and have his peace. He led her to a small room big enough to hide and live in. Already it had it's cot, obviously a living quarters but discarded nonetheless and it would be perfect for her to hide. "Here is where you can hide", he said to her. He led her in the room and stared at her, awaiting her answer to his question.
Sorcha followed him into the room and looked around almost absently before leaning against the opposite wall. She watched him for a few seconds, her eyes thinking distant thoughts before she spoke, "I feel that I need a dragon to help things that have gone awry at my home." Her eyes unfocused and no longer stared at him but past him to some memory of her past. Her face suddenly lost all bluff and for a few brief seconds her vunerablility showed true as the ghosts of her past came forward. She drew in a small breath and her face returned to normal and she looked at him again, "I think that if I manage to steal a dragon I might be able to easily fix my problems. I know I can't get a full grown dragon so I will have to wait until the hatchling grows up but if I have to I can do that outside the weyr." She avoided looking at him and stared at other things.
"Family problems. Bah!", he said. He then remembered his own family and how he loathed them for the most part, all except his blue rider brother. He was the only decent one of the family to Dicer. "Stealing a dragon is a serious offence. Your reason for stealing one better be good. Surely your family is not so horrible to the point that stealing a dragon is your only option. There is something deeper than, obviously. But at any rate I know your true motives for being here and they are as I suspected. I hid you so you can have a chance to go along with this plan but you owe me big", he paused and then looked at her in a glare so deep that it could freeze anyone at the opposite end of it, "If you are to get caught you will not connect me to this. For one I have ways and resources around that and two you wouldn't get the chance to blab if you decided you would do so. Trust me you do not want to try and traitor me out". He looked away then back to her with his normal gaze on her. The room was fairly dark and quiet since no one was around. He had shut the door when she entered to make sure no noise could resonate past the room, like it mattered anyway. No one was around this part of the weyr. It was basically abandoned to begin with and with the traders now arriving everyone in the weyr would be that way.
She shrugged as he showed derision for her plan. She didn't really care what he thought ...or at least tried convincing herself that she didn't. At least he seemed appeased by the answer and didn't want to know more. If he thought her so simple minded as to think she thought just having a dragon was going to be enough for her oh well. She wasn't going to set him straight. Then again she didn't know her whole plan entirely. Like how was she going to support three people and a dragon on the Southern continent without getting caught? She sighed again thinking that by that time she would have answer plenty for it. She looked at him, her own glare turning up, she didn't know what she expected of him but it sounded so ...cold the way he was talking. Like it was business or something. She straightened, it was okay, she still didn't need him or anyone else. She had managed to get this far hadn't she?
He gave a smirk when she glared back at him. "Let us not forget. We came to an agreement that this is done by my rules. Any thoughts you have of thinking you don't need me. Let's just get that out of our little head and let us not forget it's not like this is given freely out of the kindness of my heart", he gave a bit of a snicker to that last comment. Since when did he do something out of the kindness of his heart, as far as he was concerned he did not have kindness in his heart. He then looked at her, not a glare, but a general, plain stare. Dicer wasn't the one to really show emotion. He kept his one green eye focused on her. He looked her over then allowed his eye to focus on her eyes. Well I will say this much, she doesn't look that bad. Though one who generally hated people it wasn't as though he didn't have his opinion or taste for girls. No guy could escape that, not even the detatched Dicer.
