Nike let out her breath, and nodded at Christae's words. She respected her Weyrwoman, and all, but the one thing she hated more than being restrained, was being told how to do her job. Nike hated it when someone who only had basic knowledge of Healer told her what to do. Shaking her head, she went to the infirmary and got the things ready to clean and fix up the boy.

Nike sighed as she leaned back in her chair next to the cot where the young boy sat. It had been twelve hours since he came to the Weyr. It was early morning, still dark outside. She had changed from her healer green to a simple pair of brown trousers tucked into her boots, a white cotton blouse with the sleaves rolled up to her elbows, and a sleaveless, red tunic over that. Her arms were bare, and showed the red stain that was common when one worked with Redwort.
The young healer had just woken up a half and hour ago by a drudge. The Weyr outside was quiet. All but the kitchens were working. Working to make the food for breakfast, lunch, dinner. By now, the boy would be waking up. His right wrist had a splint on it, rapped tightly in cloth. Her left hand was laced with numweed, water, and dragon's tounge(aloe) to numb, cool, and soothe. All his other cuts and scrapes were clean. His hair was washed, and same with the rest of his body. His chest was bare, but he wore a pair of white, under shorts.
Nike sighed as she looked at the poor boy. By the First Egg! How could a Weyr let this boy turn this way? The way he was acting around us! Why was he afraid of Sh'iron? Shaking her head, Nike searched the Weyr for any awake dragon. None. Even the Watchdragon was asleep! Nike leaned back in her chair and waited for the boy to wake up.

The boy would jerk awake and sit up. Bleary eyed he would look around and see he was in different surroundings. His eyes looked past the healing things on the counter without thought and continued around the room until he spotted a person. He edged back in the cot until he fell back beside it in a thump. It was Green although now she looked different.
His hand went up to run through his hair but was stopped by some white cloth. He touched it with his other hand and found it had some stuff on it too. He sniffed at it then looked back to Green in confusion. He stood up and looked until he found a door. Vague thoughts of leaving before sharp things put him in the black oblivion filled his head. He shivered as a morning wind went through the door and found that his clothes had disappeared. Sudden hunger decided it for him.
The boy couldn't understand all these changes and started shaking. Even though he didn't trust her he found himself wishing for Nice Voice or some other person who hadn't a large sharp thing to hurt him. Perhaps if he left the room he would find someone else to help him. He bolted for the door and ran to the left no knowing or caring where he went. He hoped to find food so ran in a direction that had nice fragrent smells beginning to stir in the air. Soon the boy would no longer be cold as his run had warmed him up. He was surprised that no one was in his way but didn't think on it long and continued until he found a room with lots of chairs and tables.
He entered slowly and found a noisy room with a few people in it. Living in the wild for so long had made him adept at sneaking in and out without being noticed. That was how he still lived. So in sneaked the little boy until he spied a half loaf of bread behind one lady and further down cheese being put in a basket. The loaf and wedge would dissappear and so would the boy. Once back in the big room of tables and chairs he would head back the way he came.
He didn't go back to the healer's room but he didn't stray too far either. He wanted to get his clothes back and was hoping Green would leave so that he could find them. He looked around and continued eating his stolen food while padding down a hallway.

It was early in the morning and K'dan was awake. At his hold he often woke up early to go fishing with his father but now his body was almost timed to waking up early. He walked around finding no one really to talk to. He wondered down the halls and, kinda lonely. Hydrath was sleeping as usual. As he wondered aimlessly he found a small boy with some food. "Well hello there. Are you lost?", he said to the young boy. He looked at the boy, he didn't have some of his clothes and his arm was in a splint. He wondered about this but didn't say anything about it to the boy. Little did he know the experience others had with him and that he was waiting for Nike to leave.

Nike smiled as the boy woke up. Her mouth opened to speak to him, but stopped as he ran out. Cursing, Nike stood up, and woke up Ruanth. She didn't care if the white was asleep or not. Can you find me the boy? She asked the sleepy white. The white was silent, and Nike thought she had fallen asleep, but Ruanth spoke. He is with K'dan. Near you. Now do you need anything else? Yes, please wake Chrisate up. NIke said as she headed off to where she heard a soft voice.
Green eyes spotted K'dan and the boy. Nike took in a deep breath and walked slowly towards them. "Hello, K'dan," She said as she reached the blue rider. Her eyes went down to the boy. She crouched down, making herself level with himself. "Please, please don't run. I am really sorry that I had to put you to sleep, but I wanted to get you healed. That is my job. I heal. I don't give pain. I try and stop it. So, will you please trust me, and come back to the room where you were sleeping? You can get your clothes, and even more and better food," Nike said, making sure that she showed her hands out in front of him. She had to show the boy that she did not want him, and she had nothing that would.

The boy looked up as another spoke to him and backed up a few paces. It wasn't man again but somewhere close. He stayed where he was for the moment tired of running and shrugged in response to the lost question. He didn't think he was lost...he was here. He sighed as Green found him again and watched her closely. It seemed she was going to follow him. He looked down to his hands when she said healing. Perhaps she wasn't so bad after all. He looked around for anyone else then back to the two standing before him.
His stomach wanted him to to trust her but he still remembered the needle. He looked to the newcomer as if he had any answers that would help. His face clearly showed his indecision. His feet said run because that was what keep him alive all those years, his stomach said stay, and his brief stay at the other weyrs suggested it was better if he stayed still for a little bit. He ran his hand through his hair before moving a little bit closer still wary of their tricks.

"Don't worry little guy. What Nike says is true you will see. Your hands will get better and it is all thanks to her", he said to the boy. He realized that he might have a better chance at gaining his trust than Nike, after all many people are scared of healers, especially younger ones. "Why don't you come with us to get your clothes and some food. We won't hurt you", K'dan said in a kind soft voice, trying to convince the young boy to come with them. He gave a look over to Nike then looked back to the young boy before him.

Nike gave the boy a comforting smile. "I know that you do not trust me. But I want you too. If you come with us, you can get some clothes, food, and real sleep. We would also like to know your name," The Healer said with a smile. "My name is Nike. And this is K'dan. He is a rider of a blue dragon, named Hydrath. My dragon, Ruanth, spoke to you earlier I believe. Right now she is asleep," The Healer spoke these words, being friendly. She honestly didn't want to hurt the boy. What she really wanted to do was understand why and how he got into this condition, and where he had come from.

The boy looked from one to the other for a moment and sighed. He seemed to relax a little bit further. His mouth opened and in a scratchy voice, "Kinest." It was the only name he remembered being called and that was from the woman who saved him. His arm unconsciously rubbed his side as he remembered her.
He moved towards the room where the clothes were to be laying. Because of the needle incident he stayed closer to this K'dan than Gre...Nike. He would follow them back to the room and look around careful of a trap for he knew that smaller rooms and areas are always more dangerous.

Christae was prodded from her sleep by a strange voice in her head.
Love, Ruanth is calling for you. The boy is awake.
~Tell her I said thank you. I will be there in a moment.~ Chrsitae hurriedly dressed and called down the shaft for a woman to come up to watch Chiron. Then she left, knowing that her son would be watched over by Kaith until the normal babysitter came up to the Weyr.
She ran down the stairs. It would have been quicker if you had let me carry you down.
~I need you to keep an eye on Chiron.~ He would be fine for that short period and you don't need the exercise because you are too thin already. She had sensed the thoughts that her rider had started to think in arugment. Christae's hips and breast were rounder since the birth of her child but she was still rather thin and gangly.
She walked into the Infirmary. "Good morning." She said softly, so as not to scare the boy. She glanced towards Nike, hoping that the HAD would have Kaith relay the news about what had happened since he woke.

K'dan looked at the Weyrwoman and then back to the boy. Seeing as how the boy trusted him to some degree, well more than Nike it seemed. He stood a bit between the boy and the two girls, partially to show the boy even more that he could trust him to keep him out of danger. "Um....hey Weyrwoman Christae", he said to the Weyrwoman. He didn't know of the recent events that occured before he awoke and found the boy and didn't know if he met the Weyrwoman, at anyrate he gave a demeanuer that showed the boy that he would shelter and protect him and make sure no harm came to him. "Nike and myself were about to go and eat with this fellow here", he said softly and looked at the boy with a smile when he mentioned eating with the boy.

((since when does a Weyrling greet his Weyrwoman with "Hey" in Pern....sorry...i had to comment on that))
"K'dan, I must ask you not to interfere." She said softly. She turned to Nike. "How badly was his hand burned? Why was he favoring his other hand?" Her voice was soft, sweet. She didn't want him racing through the hallways again.

Nike smiled as he said his name. "Well it is n ice to meet you Kinest. Now come with us, and we will get you something to wear and eat," The Healer said, leading the two boys into the room. Green eyes turned to Chrisate. "Hello, Weyrwoman Chrisate," Nike said. "Kinest's hand had only slight second degree burns(I am hoping that these terms had lived this long in Pern). His other hand was sprained. Not too bad. It had shown signs of healing, so it was quite old. But I put it in a splint, and it should heal out fine," The white rider smiled at the boy then showed him the clothes she had found in the Storage rooms. A pair of dark brown pants, small brown boots, and a red tunic with a belt to go around his waist. "If you need any help getting the clothes on, just ask K'dan," Nike said then turned back to Christae.

(heck if i know. hey is a greeting is it not)
K'dan looked questionably at the Weyrwoman, "Don't interfere? I am helping the boy". He also pointed out but not with words that he was standing closer to him than Nike. He spoke respectfully ofcourse but just because he wasn't a Weyrleader or a healer didn't mean he couldn't help the boy, besides Nike didn't seem to mind him trying to help out, she would have said something, right?

"There is a reason why I asked you not to interfere with Kinest K'dan." Her voice held a hint of steel in it. "The boy was terrified of everyone when he arrived and I am trying to gain his trust. He doesn't trust Nike all the way because she tranquilized him. I simply did not want him to spook yet again. Next time do not question my orders."
"I am glad to see that he is doing better Nike. Thank you for taking care of him. Ruanth is well I hope?" She asked the whiterider.
((Hey is not an acceptable greeting in Pern...especially to a WL....*sighs* you need to read the books))

Seeing Nike turn away from the room and that no one was in there he decided to go get clothes on. It wasn't from modesty for he didn't mind running around in his under shorts, he was actually a little cold. He put some clothes on while the three argued about something then exited the room.
He watched the two women then looked to K'dan questionally. While he had gotten a quick snack he was still hungry and was hoping they would be done arguing soon. So the little boy stood slightly behind K'dan and away from the other two for the moment. He didn't really trust any of them yet but memory told him that there was usually one he could trust at least before he had to run again.

Though he didn't show it K'dan gritted his teeth. He seemed to be gaining the boy's trust just fine. Infact the boy seemed to trust him more than the two girls. He wasn't spooking him. He looked over to the boy then to Nike, but said nothing to them nor the Weyrwoman. After a moment realizing the boy was probably still hungry he said, "I think the little guy wants something to eat". He gave a smile to the little boy. "So Kinest is you name huh? Well Nice to meet you Kinest", he said to the boy in that same calm, soft, gentle voice.

Nike smiled. "Ruanth is doing fine, thank you for asking, Werywoman," The Healer said, then turned back to K'dan and the boy. No, Kinest. Cocking her head at K'dan, the Healer turned to Chrisate. "Since Kinest is trusting K'dan a bit more than myself, I request that he will help me get the boy food, and show him around the Weyr. Atleast until he can trust me," The Master Healer said.
Nike's branch of Healing was difined as "surgery." But she was more of an all over, basic doctor which specilized in surgery. She wasn't as broad as The Master Healer, but just enough to help a Weyr, Hold, or Hall. Nike smiled slightly. Some Healers didn't like surgery, they hated it! But it was still a very good branch of Healing. Green eyes turned to Kinest. "Yes, don't worry. We will get you something to eat. Something warm," She said right before a strange look came on her face. "It seems that I am hungry too. Hot porridge and a mug of klah sounds really good right now, too."

K'dan was glad at Nike's suggestion. "Yes I could go for some food as well. I'm getting hungry", he said, agreeing with Nike. He looked to the boy, "Well let's get us some food Kinest".
