T'rin bowed slightly to the Weyrwoman, replying, "We are both doing well. Amparath has grown very large, and quickly, but he's still as picky as a child." He grinned.
I heard that, said the bronze in question. And I am not a child. He huffed and went to sun himself by the lake and closed himself off to mind contact for the moment. T'rin only laughed.
"Yes, still like a child in many ways." He smiled at the Weyrwoman. "And how are you and your Kaith?"

Christae laughed. "Most Weyrlings act like children sometimes. Kaith is finally back to her normal loving self. She was a complete grouch until after the Hatching. I am fine, although as you may have heard, pregnant. The baby should be due in 6 months."

T'rin smiled again, remembering how touchy Kaith was with her eggs. "Yes, I have heard, as this is, of course, a weyr." He grinned. "News often precedes the bearer. But congratulations! I am sure Sh'iron is very proud, and I know the whole weyr is excited."
Amparath couldn't resist butting back in. Are we invited to the Hatching? he asked of the Weyrleaders.

Sh'iron grinned at T'rin's comment. "Oh, I am very proud." He said. He couldn't wait to be a father. He couldn't wait, oh he was like Myranenth waiting for Kaith to clutch.

"Hatching?" Christae burst out laughing. "Babies don't Hatch Amparath. They are born. You will be able to see the baby after it is born."

They don't Hatch? Then how do they find their dragons? Amparath was very confused now.
T'rin gave an uncharacteristic giggle at his dragon and couldn't stop the silly grin that spread itself from cheek to cheek. Babies hatching! This was too funny!
"Not all humans have dragons," he said aloud to Amparath, still chuckling. "The dragons choose only certain people who are right for it."

Miya looked at T'rin. "If you say so Tayrin." Miya said, forgetting about the recen contraction to the boy's name. She didn't really see how it was interesting, it was just pathetic to her. Reinath turned to realize that the bronze just discovered about human babies too. Human babies, are strange. Aren't they? Reinath said to Amparath, still not understanding the concept. Miya turned as Christae gave her orders. "Fine, fine, tomorrow." Miya replied with a sigh, still not used to taking orders from the weyrwoman.

T'rin let the mistake slip; Miya could call him pretty much anything she felt like. He also noted that he had never heard her actually express an interest in something, just say it was interesting. Something to think about.
Yes, I do not understand this borning idea. I suppose we can ask it when it comes out what it is like. Amparath paused. Or we can ask... Weyrwoman Christae? What was it like to born?
T'rin couldn't help it and laughed. He let the Weyrwoman answer for herself while he chuckled at his Chosen.

Christae laughed. "My dear Weyrlings, we don't remember being born. We pass through a certain place in our mother's bellies. When we are in our mother's belly we are almost in an egg but the egg never hardens. When we emerge that egg is popped, almost like a bubble. The baby emerges from his mother's belly alive and kicking, most of the time. There are no eggs in a human mother's belly when she is with child."
