"Yea it's gonna be awhile until we can stand to impress", he said. he sat in a nearby chair and placed his hands behind his head. He was thinking of what life would be like with a dragon.

“Ok, three sevendays total? That seems so far away. I don’t know how I’m going to wait that long.” Despite living in a weyr for most of his life Breckin had never stood at an impression and he hoped that he wasn’t the only one. “Have any of you stood as a candidate before? This is my first time.”

"This is my first time as well. I can't wait to stand to impress. I wonder what dragon I will get", he said.

Breckin let out a small sigh of relief, so he wasn’t the only first time candidate. “I don’t really mind what color dragon I get, I just hope he… or even she, is a strong, healthy dragon.” Growing up in the weyr had certainly influenced him. They always stressed that /all/ color dragons were needed to help fight the Thread menace.

Tayrin listened to the conversation, still standing against the wall with his arms folded. Three sevendays he could wait. He could wait longer than that. He'd been waiting practically his whole life to get out of that hold, and he had. As for a dragon... he didn't really want a green. Of course he would be happy with whatever dragon chose him, but as of right now, green didn't seem to be ideal.
He listened to the conversation as if he wasn't there, as he had snooped into hold issues back home. For some reason, despite his darker skin tone, startling navy eyes, unruly black hair, and muscular frame, he tended to go unnoticed until he flashed his white teeth or spoke.

"I hope my dragon is healthy as well. I don't particularly care what color I get, as long as I get one", he said. He looked over to Tayrin, "So what dragon do you want to impress?"

"I'd take whoever Chose me, of course," Tayrin replied, "but I would prefer anything but green. Or gold," he added, grinning. "But luckily, that's not going to happen. I don't know that I'd like my dragon to be of the opposite gender. But we shall see." His dark blue eyes were contemplative. "I'll be glad to just stand on the sands, even if I do not Impress."

"I think it would be weird to have a dragon of the opposite gender. I hope I get one of the same gender. But as long as I impress I won't really care", he said.

"I tend to agree with that. Impression is my goal." Tayrin scratched his long nose. "And of the rest of you?" he asked of the other candidates. "How do you feel about a dragon of opposite gender?"

((I feel like intruding.))
Nike was bored. As a dragonless woman she really had nothing to do. Her Healer skills were rarely used, so she was seen walking around the Lower Caverens.
THe Healer thinking about her days of a Candidate, and she was taken by her feet to the Candidate Barracks. She was listening about what the Candidates wanted. Ah how it brought back memories. Well Nike did look like a Candidate, only the Jourenywoman knots and her Healer green outfit(think scrubs) gave it away that she wasn't.
Nike grinned as she listened to their words. She was staying quite so she could hear them. Then an odd sansation went through her nose. She was going to sneeze! "Ahchoo!" The sneeze echoed though the short hall, and there would be no time to run and hide. She would be caught.

Kia was watching unnoticed until they asked her about the issue of a dragon with the opposite gender. "Well, Akki and Rhia have dragons of the opposite gender but as a girl," at that she sighed a little and looked down, "I will probably get green and perhaps gold." Suddenly, a loud sneeze echoed through the halls. Kia was reminded to stay on her toes around most because she still was a little sick. She looked out and saw Nike. She sighed with relief, thinking it was a renegade or another unwelcome visitor.

Nike smiled at Kia. "Sorry. My days of a Candidate got the better of me. Mind if I join you? I could give you all some advice." The Healer said. Only a few of the Candidates knew that she had lost Tirith, but the others would think she stood, and failed to Impress.

Kia grinned. "It's fine with me," she said happily. She stepped to the side and motioned for Nike to come in. "Everybody," she said, "This is Nike."

Nike grinned as she entered the Barracks. It reminded her of herself when she just got to the Weyr, nervous, jumpy, excited, and anxious. The Candidates looked how they felt too.

Kadan spoke to Nike, "Hello Nike my name is Kadan. We haven't really met but I have seen you around". Sharan awoke from his nap and went to find Kadan. He found him with a group of others. He flew around Nike a few times then landed on Kadan's shoulder. "I forgot firelizards can't be their for the hatching", he said. He scratched the top of Sharan's head and wondered what he would do with the curious little bronze.

Miya walked back into the room. "Hey Nike." she said as she sat down in the same chair as before. "I don't care about the gender as long as I get a dragon." she said. She had heard their conversation and forgot to walk into the room and reply when she heard what they were talking about.

Tayrin turned his attention to Nike, who looked quite lost despite the smile on her face. Seeing her made him sad, for some reason. He wondered what it was.
However, his eyes brightened as Miya walked back in. He had been wondering where she'd gone. He restrained a grin as he watched her hair swinging. She maintained a cool exterior and Tayrin wondered what she was really like.

“I think that after you impress a dragon of a different gender, if you impress a dragon of a different gender it won’t seem as strange.” Breckin said. The boy looked to the door when he heard a sneeze and watched as Kia went over to investigate who it was. When Kia introduced the healer Breckin said, “Hi Nike, I’m Breckin.” He tried to figure out what Nike meant by “My days of a Candidate” had she stood at hatchings and failed to impress? Or had she impressed a dragon? Breckin fought his urge to ask her if she had impressed.

"I enjoyed being a Candidate. It was so much fun. And it doesn't matter what gender your dragon is. I have a friend who is a green rider, and he seems fine. All it means is that if you want a Weyrmate, find one with a different gender dragon than your own." Nike shruged. Images of her Impressing Tirith came into her mind. The Healer's eyes were distance, and sad. It was hard, and it always would be.

Kadan pondered this. He finally spoke out, "What about Rhia and G'han, both have male dragons". He thought of how weird that must be. He looked over to Nike, she was sad and for good reason. Kadan wanted to say something to her but he knew some of the others didnt' know about what happened and he wasn't sure if she wanted them to know. He just looked at her with a sad, sympathetic look.
