Nike sighed as she sat at the desk in her room. A pen in her hand, and a sheet of paper in front of her. The paper was covered with little scribbles of words in tight, slanted handwriting.
The Healers's new room was small, cozy, and warm. Once you open the door you would see a full sized warm bed. The bed was covered with beautiful furs, and many warm pillows.
To the left would be the door to the lavatoy and bathingroom. Next to that was a wardrobe. To the right would be a small hearth with a little fire in it. Next to the hearth was Nike's desk. On each side of the bed there was a small window with a Healer green curtian.
All around the room were shelves full of bottles, jars, little tools, herbs, soft white fabric, books, and other odd tools for Healing.
Nike was bored like normal. She was planning to going back to the Healer Hall to get her Master's in surgery. Well she was a Jourenywoman in it, so why not get her Master's? She had no dragon, and her only other subject she was great at was Healing.
Zim was perched on the back of Nike's chair, watching her bored bonded look something up in a thick leather bound book. The gold felt a small pang in her stomach, and cherped loudly. Nike looked up to see Zim glid down to the hearth.
Right in front was a small sand filled pot, and the gold landed in it.
Nike smiled as her gold laid her first egg. The Healer smiled, yes, but never infront of anyone. It had been about one and a half sevendays since Tirith's death, and the Healer was happier than before.
Soon more and more eggs came out of Zim's stomach. All were nicely sized, and perfect. The gold looked up at her bonded, very proud.
Nike grinned and went down to her knees.
"Ten! Oh good job Zim! Their wonderful!" Nike said stroking the gold's eye ridges.
Nike looked the ten orbs over. One was slightly larger than the others and had a slight gold hue to it. Or was it the sand? No it was a gold egg.
"I am very proud of you Zim!" Nike said as the gold made herself comfy in the pot. Nike covered the eggs with the sands.
"I better tell Daran, Nira, and the others that Zim has laid her clutch."
The Healer said getting up and walked out of her room.
Her healer green outfit and her old shoulder knots showing who and what she was.
As the Healer head towards the Kitchens she met other Weyrfolk. They nodded, and grinned. Her new friends. Most of them had firelizards, and none had dragons. So she could talk to most of them. She could talk about simple things, like about that new hatching at Benden, and how Thread was doing.
Nike was happy that she didn't have to face the cold of Thread. The scars were the only things to remind her of it. Soon the Healer entered the vast cavern that was the dinning hall of the Lower Caverns.
Nike nodded to a drudge who had a bowl of fruit in his hands. The former rider grabed a red fruit, then set out looking for the others.
