R’dan was in his weyr lying on the his bed staring up at the ceiling when Jesseth bespoke him and said, ~ Kaith flies.~ The brownrider turned to Jesseth, “You don’t mean to chase her do you?” R’dan doubted that little brown Jesseth could catch the large queen, not to mention Jesseth had caught Tirith when she had flown. Jesseth didn’t say anything but leapt off of their weyr’s ledge and joined the chase. He had entered the chase late; he’d have a bit more energy than those that were the first to pursue the queen but would that help him catch the queen? Shards, thought R’dan, he had hoped Jesseth would’ve waited awhile before participating in another flight. Nevertheless R’dan ran off to find Christae just incase Jesseth beat all the odds and caught Kaith.
Jesseth pumped his wings faster trying to catch up with the other dragons that chased the beautiful queen.

P'ran continued to cheer Desanth but only for the dragon to hear. Desanth looked behind as another brown entered the chase. He frowned, seeing how many dragons there were. He continued to stay at a steady pace and was prepared to turn if Kaith did. He stayed tense, ready to react.

Brinth the NPC bronze was visiting from a neighboring weyr with his rider when he heard the bugles of the queen dragon, Kaith, and answering males. He realized he was late on the call and raced to the herd, blooding three herdbeasts with ease. He raised his bloody muzzle and bugled loudly, screaming his determination to win the queen.
His rider, a surprised P'nir, jumped out of bed, suddenly intent on the goldrider. He ignored the fact that he was in only a light tunic and short-breeches and practically ran out of the guest weyr. He felt his dragon blooding his kills and rising into the air as he ran out to where Christae stood, noting angrily that there were other riders about. He laughed as his dragon did, knowing soon that he would have her to himself, for Brinth was strong and agile.
Brinth with unthinkable speed zoomed through the air to become level with the other bronzes and a brown, bugling an earsplitting call of defiance and desperately looking for an opening to entwine with the queen.
Worry not, my queen, we shall soon be united, he said, trying to distract the shining Kaith.

Desanath looked as another bronze came. Things were not lookking good for a brown dragon, at least, that's what most would think. Desanth, though, was extremely egotistic and thought for sure he would win. He still followed after the beautiful queen. P'ran grinned happily, his brown was doing great.

Jesseth finally caught up with the others, though he was at the rear. There was no chance of catching the queen while he was at the back. The small brown pumped his wings faster; he was a bit closer to the queen but not much. The bronzes were in the way, he’d have to try to find a way around them or forget about catching Kaith.
R’dan had found Christae and the other riders. Jesseth’s emotions were starting to take over, and he urged the brown dragon to fly faster, and catch Kaith.

As more dragons came Jarth began to doubt if her could compete with them to get the queen. Don't give up. F'ren not only encouraged but instructed his dragon. The bronze pumped his small wings trying to catch up with the others. He succeded in catching up with those in the lead but did not realize that this would bring tiredness at a faster pace.

Desanth watched as the small bronze grew more and more tired but then moved up farther. He grinned, this was where endurance became handy. The other dragons would surely tire but he would continue to pursue the golden Kaith.

Mneith had kept up with the other dragons. He ignored his riders curses. He did not think of the fact that his rider was a woman. He did not strain himself as he followed Kaith. He had learned a long time ago that pushing yourself too far would only tire you when you needed strength the most. The large brown bugled a challenge as he clutch-mate and a strange bronze joined the chase.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kaith's eyes whirled with satisfaction as others joined in on the chase. She was certain that she would not be caught by the little upstarts behind her. She whipped her golden body around, changing directions with an agility uncommon for such a large gold. She winged upwards, using all of her giant wingspan to carry her higher.
Back at the Weyr Christae tried to retain part of herself but she was losing the battle. Gradually she became more and more Kaith and less and less Christae. She was still human enough to cheer her dragon on and caution her but she was Kaith in the fact that her body swayed with every movement the Queen made. She dipped and wove with the golden Queen.
I will only be flown by the best! Brinth you will have to do better than that to catch me. Your silly games will not trick me.
The gold was beyond haughty, but she knew that soon she would not be able to fly as high as she was without losing speed but if she dove she would not be able to gain altitude again. She dropped a bit and turned again.
G'han looked up as he heard Kaith's challenge. He heard Rhia cursing her dragon on the side of him and realized that Kaith was flying to mate. The bronzerider set the book down as he felt his dragon flying to the pens to blood a kill.
Gerenanth leapt into the air along with the rest of the bronzes and kept up with the bigger bronzes easily, conserving his strength. He ignored the gold's taunts and gained speed until he was even with Rhia's brown.
Your rider doesn't seem to happy. He told the brown.
Brinth grinned a dragonish grin and kept pace easily with the gold. He did not think she would fall for a distraction as trivial as conversation.
My sweet, you are more splendid than I could have imagined. Take me into your wings and I shall care for you as the strongest and fiercest bronze at Dark Moon Weyr.
Brinth worked his way up to the head of the column of bronzes, swift yet still with plenty of stamina. He hoped not only to catch the queen but romance her.
Surely you must want for more than just a mate, sun of the sky, he commented as he pulled nearly alongside Kaith.
Myranenth followed every dive, swirl, turn, and loop. He was still near the top. He was glad that he was one of the strongest. He could catch her, and he would. He stayed near the fort. Not letting anyone in his way. Not listing to talking to the others. The bronze flew on after the queen. He had to catch her. He just had to.
Sh'iron was caught in his dragon's mind. But memories of older flights flashed by him. All golds. But they were onlu Queen riders. Not Weyrwomen and not Jr. Weyrwomen, but plain Queen Riders. Yes Myranenth could catch her.
Mneith growled when Brinth began to close in on Kaith. He knew he would not have the gold for himself but it didn't hurt to try.
In the library, his rider was trying to force him to quit the flight but the brown's blood was up. Rhia sank down in a chair, shaking from the effort of trying to get her dragon to quit. "He won't listen to me." She told G'han. She realized that his bronze was chasing after Christae's Quen as well. "I'm gonna wring that brown's neck."
Kaith flipped her large body until she was several feet away from the pressing little bronze.
G'han looked at Rhia then thought of his dragon. He had mixed feelings. If Gerenanth caught Kaith, how would this effect him and Rhia. He wanted to cheer on his bronze though. He thought he would just let Gerenanth go and if he caught her then he caught her.
Gerenanth flew closer to Kaith. He may not have been the biggest or oldest bronze but he wasn't to be counted out. He had more speed and endurance than most of the dragons. That was his advantage and he would use it. He stayed on Kaith matching her easily move for move.
Myranenth flew closer to Kaith. She would tire soon, and he would be there. This queen didn't derserve a brown or a bronze who would be too cocky. No she needed a bronze who was strong, not cocky, smart, loving, and great. No some of these dragons would be worthy of a queen.
Viraenth flew near the back. He was saving his strength when Kaith would tire, and all the other bronzes would fall behind.
Kaith glanced back and then flew faster. The strength that had flowed into her veins from the herdbeasts was waning and she knew that she would be caught soon. The burst of speed tired her but she lost the browns and quite a few of the bronzes. Only the strongest, swiftest fliers could keep up with her now.
Myranenth knew that his time had come. He pumped his wings to keep up with her. He could catch her now. The browns and even the smaller bronzes were gone. Yes he could catch her, and he would!
Viraenth pumped his wings and caught up so he was closer to the queen. Good thing that he saved his energy for this moment.
Gerenanth kept on Kaith still not tiring. He joined in later than most of them and wasn't as tired. As others fell behind Gerenanth drew closer. He wasn't going to be outdone so easily. He would prove that he wasn't one to be taken lightly but was fierce competition. He kept his full focus on Kaith not letting anything distract him.
Brinth was tiring, but glad to see that he was not alone. The queen, the lovely Kaith, was also tiring, and with her the few males that remained. Brinth knew he still had strength and reserved it by hanging just next to the other leading male. He waited for an opening.
P'nir, caught up in the rush, was standing not far from Christae herself and his anticipation grew from the race. His eyes stared into the sky, blind but for the vision of his dragon of the gold queen.
Kaith dove, gaining speed and then turned upwards again, flapping her golden wings. She turned into the sun, hoping to confuse her persuers with the blinding light.
