Christae was enjoying a rare time of leisure, reading a book she had purchased from the traders. She had finally finished logging the supplies and new items and had made arrangements for everyone to get their items and pay for them. She had given out assignments for those riders who could not afford to pay for their things and everything was almost calm in the Weyr. Nike was doing better and Rhia was fully healed. It had nearly been a week since Tirith had gone *between*. The Weyr had mourned but now things were returning to normal, sort of.
The young Queenrider stood and stretched, walking to her ledge to where Kaith was sunning herself. The greyness of her hide had faded, but the Queen looked off color. She supposed that she was still upset by Tirith's death. She did not think that there was any other reason for the gold's color. Kaith had been in an odd mood lately and Christae hesitantly touched her gold's mind. She felt anticipation in her gold's mind but couldn't place it. She was just glad that her bonded did not snap at her.
She looked out over the Weyr, enjoying the view from the large quarters reserved for the Weyrleaders. Sometimes she felt lost in the vast rooms that she inhabited but she knew that one day she would share them. She just hoped that the rider who's dragon caught Kaith in her flight would be someone that she could get along with, maybe even love. She shook herself, not wanting to think about that. That was probably not going to happen for a few more months. Kaith was still a young Queen, although she was easily larger than any of the bronzes in the Weyr. She was not as large as Benden's famous Queen Ramoth, but she was close enough. Christae was secretly glad that the gold was not bigger than she was, she was hard enough to clean without her being bigger.
Christae straightened out the furs on her bed and walked about tidying up the Weyr, happy that she had enough time to do such mundane tasks. She finished cleaning and started down the stairs to reach the Weyr Bowl. She was suddenly ravenous, but she could not understand why she paused when she was almost down. A strange bugle, half challenge, half call burst out from the ledge where Kaith had been laying. The Queen's hide was brilliant gold and her eyes whirled red with hunger and lust.
Kaith leapt from the ledge, her mind intent on nothing else but the need to mate. She started to fly but her hunger bested her. She landed on a frightened buck, holding the squealing animal down with her claws. Christae panicked as Kaith's feelings overwhelmed her. All of her training was forgotten as she sprinted towards the feeding paddocks. The gold bit into the buck and Christae remembered what the Weyrlingmaster had taught her about golds gorging themselves before a flight.
"Kaith! Blood it only! No meat." The gold tried to ignore her rider but Christae pressed down on her, forcing her to obey. Grudgingly, the gold did not swallow the hunk of meat she had tore off. She drank the buck dry and leaped on another one. She tried to resist Christae's hold on her mind but gave in quickly. She leaped on a third, not even bothering to disobey her rider.
The gold leapt to the skies, screaming a challenge to all the bronzes of the Weyr. She would fly fast and far, no bronze would catch her but the best and the most worthy of them all! She was Queen of the skies and she would prove it!

A boy of about 16 turns watched in awe as his fairly large brown lept from a ledge. The boy, named P'ran, looked to the sky and saw Kaith, the gold dragon. He soon realized what was happening. He looked quickly and found Christae. He jogged closer, still watching hos brown. Desanth, his brown, was a pretty fast flier and not one to give up.

Sh'iron and Myranenth were lounging on their ledge. The sun beating down on the bronze and his mount. It was a great day and a great day to take a rest.
The Wingleader was always busy planning out formations for his wing. NIke was once in it, but since Tirith went /between/ one sevenday ago, the girl was no longer in it.
The Healer was happier. She never laughed, smiled, or spoke much. But she was happier now then she was when Tirith died.
Myranenth was suddenly alert. He could feel something urging him. The bronze heard the bugle from the queen, and responed with one of his own.
Sh'iron jumped up and ran down the steps. Nothing would stop Myranenth from chasing Kaith. But the bronze rider had to be by Christae if in any case, Myranenth caught the queen. The bronze was soon standing next to the young Weyrwoman. "Stay with her, don't let her go. Don't let her go." Sh'iron said before Myranenth would overwhelm him.
The bronze watched the queen closely as she fed. Once she shot into the air, Myranenth spread his wings and leaped after her. He bugled loudly. He would catch her. No matter what.

A rather small bronze burst into the air with amazing speed for a brown sized dragon. Not only was her fast but agile, giving him a good chance against the queen. His rider stood on the ground. "Come on Jarth" the rider said to himself. The rider was tall and almost lanky but not quite. He was know as F 'ren. He stood next to the weyrwoman hoping to become the weyrleader. he had great pride in his dragon and himself.

F'tan was already at the feeding grounds when Kaith came to blood. The bronze rider watched the queen as she shot into the air. Soon followed by Myranenth, the largest bronze, then a brown, then a smaller bronze, then his own Viraenth, the meduim sized bronze.
The rider didn't mind his dragon flying to mate. He wouldn't mind being Weyrleader. F'tan walked up to Christae and the others. He stood a little fuarther away from the others.

Desanth made sure he stayed near Kaith, not wanting to lose her. "Come on Desanth," P'ran thought to himself. He watched anxiouslly and with sweaty palms.

((NOTE: ALL bronzes are required to participate..browns are welcome but not required...thanks for the npc charries...this will not be a quick thread so....i want to give people time to get involved))
Christae dimly heard Sh'iron speaking to her, incouraging her and urging her not to let go of her ravenous Queen. The girl fought to stay herself, realizing that being out in the open was not a good place for her when her dragon was caught. She hurriedly left the feeding grounds, knowing that she would never make it to her own Weyr. She went to an empty ground floor weyr, the one Rhia had stayed in before her injuries healed enough for her to move to her own weyr.
Kaith's wings beat strongly. She gave the dragons behind her a haughty look before winging powerfully and swiftly higher into the air. Catch me if you can. She taunted, her gold hide flashing brilliantly in the afternoon sunlight.

F'ren saw Christae leave but followed her. He would have to be with the woman if his dragon cuaght hers.
Jarth easily veered up and kept his pace. He flapped his little wings harder, gaining a bit on the queen. Turning was simple and easy for him but his speed might cause him not to catch the queen.

Desanth also shot upward, keeping close to the gold. He watched a small bronze turn easily and made sure he was at least even with the bronze. P'ran watched carefully, he went after Christae but stayed outside the Weyr.

Myranenth beat after the queen. He wouldn't go as fast as he could. No, he would pace himself. Stay near the queen, but wouldn't strain himself.
Sh'iron watched the Queen rider leave. He walked away after her, and stood in a place where he could see the dragons and be able to get to Chrisate if Myranenth caught Kaith.
Oh I will catch you! Myranenth said. He beat his wings and made sure he stayed close.

I would watch yourself, Kaith, for you will be embaressed if you stay so cocky when I catch you. Desanth was a bit cocky himself, even though he was a brown. P'ran hated to imagine his dragon as a bronze, he would be the cockiest of them all.

Christae hovered at the edge of her weyr, concious of the dragonriders standing near her. She concentrated only on her gold, urging the dragon Queen to fly higher and faster than her persuers.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mneith had been sunning himself by the lake when the gold burst into the air, challenging the male dragons. He launched himself after the others and flew strongly towards her. He was bigger than the smaller bronzes of the weyr but did not come close to the larger ones. He flew with his best, knowing that he probably wouldn't catch the lovely gold, but trying anyway.
Rhia looked up from the book she had been reading and cursed her dragon. He probably wouldn't catch the gold but if he did it would be awkward. She hated the fact that she would be caught in her dragon's mind. Sometimes being a female brownrider was not a good thing. She glanced at G'han. They had been resting after chores and had gone to the Weyr's library to read. She realized that Gerenenanth would chase Kaith as well. "This is not good." She tried in vain to call her dragon back but he was too far gone.
Try something else! F'ren contacted his dragon. Knowing his size put him at a disadvantage he decided to do what he was good at. The small bronze cruved around but kept a constant speed. He hoped this would confuse some of the dragons and give him an advantage for these turns didn't tire him.
Myranenth kept his eyes on the amazing, wonderful, and lovely queen. He every so often looked around him to see where the other dragons were. He was in a good place. Not the closest to Kaith, and not the fuarthest. A good place.
Kaith gave a haughty laugh in the minds of the other dragons. I will not be so easily caught. It is you who are arogant to think that you would catch ME!
She folded her wings and rolled, not losing an ounce of speed, bringing herself away from the dragons. She flew faster, her large gold body cutting through the warm afternoon air with ease. Her blood was pumping through her veins and she was going to put on a chase like no dragon had seen before. She began to dip and weave, keeping her lead and increasing it bit by bit.
The small bronze dragon took advantage of the golds tricks. He sped up slightly and lost no speed. His wings beat heavily as he tried to prove he was better than the larger dragons. He didn't have a fasination for the queen as they barely met but he had reason to win. Bieng so small he was constantly mocked by other, including lower ranked dragons. Well know he could prove his usefulness and abilities.
Desanth folded his wings and dived just slightly so he was even with the gold. He extended his large wings and followed after Kaith, trying to push closer, making her nervous. If Kaith was nervous she would probably mess up. I have no fear of not catching you. He said, trying to make her more pressured.
Kaith only laughed. The smaller bronze and brown would never last long, not against Her. She put on a burst of speed, easily leaving them behind. She flapped to gain altitude and then dropped back swiftly, the bronzes passing a good ways below her. She folded her wings and dove, hurtling downward at a breathtaking speed until she skimmed the tops of the trees. She began to fly higher, gaining altitude, the edge of the mating lust still strong.
Christae's heart leapt into her throat when her dragon dove. She could no longer see the queen and her persuers but she saw through her dragon's eyes. She was still Christae enough to be alarmed.
Jarth fell back as the queen burst in speed. F'ren' thoughts cursed lightly knowing how much this mating meant to the bronze. As the queen moved up and down Jarenth was able to gain since he was agile. Though his speed was no match his intellegance and agility might just pull through.
Desanth dove in after Kaith. He was a normal size brown, smaller then most of the dragons chasing Kaith, but he had wonderful endurance and speed and although most would count him out, he was quite a threat. That was what normally lead to others downfal,, under-estimating him. The dragon sped up and moved closer to Kait, looking around at the other dragons. he pushed farther and was almost the closest but two dragon flew before him.
