((please think of another name as well....it seems wrong to use Ruth.....*sighs* i will try to find a picture of a white hatchling for the hatching.....))
Mneith had gone up to his ledge to catch the remaining rays of the sun when he heard the commotion around Nike's weyr. He launched himself, sensing that something was wrong. When Tirith vanished between, he and the other dragons in the Weyr knew what had happened immediatly. He began to voice the unearthly keening sound that accompanied any dragon death. He soared higher in the air. On her way back to the caravan Rhia dropped to her knees, crying out in dispair.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Christae's head jerked up as Kaith frantically launched herself in the air. She looked up from her list just in time to see Tirith, more ashen than grey launch herself from her ledge and vanish.The young Weyrwoman stared in disbelief as her gold began to keen. Seconds later the entire Weyr's dragons began to voice the hair raising cry.
Sh'iron looked up from the face of his dragon to see Tirith launch herself off the weyr ledge and wink /between./ Myranenth raised his head and let out the long low brass keen from his mouth. Tears poured down Sh'iron's face as he ran towards Nike's weyr. Once there he took the crumbled body of his friend into his arms. Crying.
Tears poured down F'tan's face as Viraenth keened for Tirith. Nike was his friend, and she and Tirith were even greater friends. Why did Tirith have to go? The bronze rider wept for his friend by his keening dragon's side.
T'ran cried into Kalaryth's neck as the green cried for Tirith. The green was so healthy! And then she just got sick and went /bewteen?/ Oh poor NIke!
Kaith stopped to pick up her rider, still keening. The goldrider dismounted shakily when the gold landed on the ledge that had housed Tirith only hours before. Christae walked forward to where Nike was. Christae waited until the former rider came around.
"I am so sorry. I wish there was more that I could have done. I was too busy to even notice that she was ill."
The dragons hides had taken on an grey hue. Their eyes whirled slowly with the colors of sadness.
Sh'iron looked up. "When she wakes up, she won't be the Nike we knew." He said as tears still ran down her face. "I will take a while, but she will come around." He nodded and slowly stroked Nike's face.
Nike's eyes fluttered. Her mind searched for Tirith, but she wasn't there. All she felt was the conection with Zim. Tirith had gone /between/! The Healer slowly opened her dull forest green eyes. She saw Sh'iron, Christae, and Akki. But no Tirith.
Stay with us Healer. We need you. We love you. Kaith's voice was filled with sadnesss but it also held a seed of hope.
Mneith echoed Kaith's promise. We will be here for you as you were here for my rider in her time of need. You are not alone Healer.
Christae nodded to Sh'iron and then bowed her head in grief. She remembered a hatchling Tirith competeing with Kaith and Ebbeth and Mneith at the beach. She remembered their first awkward flying lessons. She remembered Kaith jumping to the wrong place Between and scaring everyone and Tirith teasing the gold mercilessly.
Nike listened to the dragons. She knew that she had to stay here. She wanted to go and be with Tirith, but she had to stay with her friends. Even though she lost her dragon did not mean that she had to leave her friends. She nodded mentaly to the dragons.
Christae shook herself and rose. "I am going to send someone up here with some soup and hot klah. We all need it. Then I am getting a healer to make sure she doesnt go into shock and doesn't come out." She wanted to grieve but she was the Weyrwoman and the traders were still down in the Weyr Bowl. She had to be strong for the Weyr's sake.
Sh'iron nodded. "I'll take her to her bed." He said picked Nike up in his arms, then took her into the Sleeping room where he set her down. Nike's head was proped up by pillows, and eyes were distant.
((g2g, be on tomorrow.))
Ooc||Awww Spirit! I am so sorry about your dog! My dog is near 12 now and she is to old we may also have to put her down
Ebbeth bugled silently, the booming sound echoing in everyones heads. ~Let us go Ebbeth, there is nothing we can do~ Akki said, wiping the tears that were staining her face. Ebbeth said nothing, his eyes expressionless before turning and leaving before his mine even took a step.
~Ebbeth, there was nothing you could do, do not fret so~ Akki said, walking quickly after the blue, attempting to console him.
[glow=blue,2,300]I know[/glow] He replied simply, before Akki decided it would be best for him to be alone. It was hard on the blue, seeing his friend gone like that. There would be no more friendly rivalry or races between him and the green...
Siarath looked at Nira, who must have been the only one who didn't cry. The girl was in shock and looked to be parayzed. Nira just couldn't believe. She couldn't stand it. She could never think of such a thing. "I..I..am going to go." she finally said. Nira couldn't stay there. She ran from the site and into her own weyr. Why? She asked the green as she lay on her bed. her brown eyes staring blankly at the ceiling. Don't worry mine. Nike will be alright. besides these things happen. Siarath felt she could not morn like everyone else. She felt she was needed to be sane. To care for her rider.
Christae climbed up the winding stairs to Nike's weyr with a tray of rolls and a pot of soup in her hands. Kia followed with klah and bowls.
"Akki, help me serve the soup." She said. She set the tray down and embraced the bluerider. "I can't believe Tirith's gone, but I know it's true or Kaith wouldn't look grey and be keening like she is."
Kia handed out the klah and began with the bowls. The whole time her eyes were blurry with water but she wasn't crying. She was silent, her lips didn't move. She only breathed slightly through her nose.
Akki embraced back and said "The dragons will take it the hardest, espeacially the ones who knew Tirith the longest. Kaith, Mneith and Ebbeth will be mourning her for a long time no doubt". She was still in shock, but after seeing Ebbeth break down in his own way she needed to be stronger for him.
R’dan almost dropped the barrel of oil that he was helping the traders with when Tirith winked between. He knew immediately when she was gone, Jesseth began to keen and a couple of tears rolled down R’dan’s cheeks. The trader seemed to figure out what had happened, R’dan shifted the barrel so it would be easier to carry as tears continued to run down his face, but the trader stopped him. “Go Rider, I can handle this.” R’dan barely managed a weak smile and a “thanks” he went to find out what had happened. He knew Tirith had gone between, but why? And was Nike still here at the weyr or had she been on Tirith when the green went between? [glow=brown,2,300] Tirith was ill [/glow] ~Ill? When did this happen she seemed perfectly fine when…~ [glow=brown,2,300]I don’t know… but her rider is still here.[/glow] Nike was still here? Poor Nike. ~I don’t know what I’d do if you went between~ [glow=brown,2,300]I haven’t gone between, I’m still here, I always be [/glow] R’dan didn’t want to think about losing Jesseth but he had to help Nike through this some how. The brown rider climbed the stairs up to Nike’s weyr; he’d seen Kia and Christae come up. He peeked into the weyr even with all the people in there it still seemed empty without Tirith.
((If figured it would be easiest posting the whole thing here, instead of parts in a different thread))
"We all need to be strong for our dragons' sake. Rhia isn't here. I didn't see her downstairs either but Mneith is circling above."
Christae pressed a bowl of soup into Sh'iron's hands, urging the bronzerider to eat. She asked Kia and Akki to sit and eat as well. She knew that none of them had had food for a while.
Kaith love please tell Rhia to come up here.
Rhia had not stirred from her knees until Kaith's voice spoke in her head, requesting her to go up to Nike's weyr. She was not sure she was ready to face the former greenrider but she would not ignore Christae's request. She slowly made her way up the stairs, pausing when her ribs pained her. She reached the top and cautiously entered. She nodded a greeting to those within and went to sit in one of the chairs that stood in the weyr at different places. Gradually the dragons' keening died down to sad whimpers.
Christae nodded a greeting to R'dan and handed him and Rhia a bowl of soup. Rhia just stared down at the bowl.
