The temperature showed no sign of cooling down, the wind showed no sign of blowing and the kitchens seemed to rival the heat that was outside. All over the place cooks were scrambling over one and another, handfuls of ingredients being thrown into dishes. Soon as the first egg had cracked, they had been moving quickly in the kitchens to get the food prepared for the feast that would come later.
Jugs of klah, bottles of wine and much more were being filed out of the kitchens and placed onto tables – there was no question that everyone outside would be thirsty, the heat was unbearable and inescapable. The hatching itself had finally wrapped up, giving the new dragons and weyrlings an hour or two to sleep before the festivities began. It was in the last few moments before the feast officially would start that everything came together. All the food that had been cooking was now out, ready to be eaten; cooks were ready to sit down for a bit and take a well deserved break while drudges prepared for the onslaught of hungry candidates, weyrlings, riders, etc.
Some riders were already down there actually. There had been a few people who left the hatching and headed down to the kitchens to lend a hand which was quite appreciated – everyone seemed to be moving sluggish thanks to the heat and no one was sure if they’d be able to get everything down fast enough. Akki was one of the volunteers, she had gotten ready for the feast rather quickly before flying down stairs to reach the kitchens to help out.
Now that everything was done, she perched herself on a seat with a glass of wine and toasted to the cooks and drudges. She was regretting dressing up beforehand for now her face was flushed, bits of hair stuck to her face and the pale green dress she chose to wear was becoming wrinkled. She looked rather chaotic.
Of course, Akki always looked rather chaotic so the appearance worked for her. She sipped at the wine and couldn’t prevent the large smile on her face – within moments weyrlings and new dragons would be flooding in.

"Fancy seeing you here." R'anl settled into the seat next to where Akki was sitting with her drink. "You look like you got all dolled up, then ran through an oven and then a wringer." He offered, with the faintest of smiles on his face. "Oh, yeah ... I have a gift here for you ..." He started hunting through his pockets, as if he had forgotten about it and only just now remembered.
"Heck of a hatching, huh? Imagine that ... not only two queens, but in one egg... neither the same color, but yet both being the same. How strange is that?" He asked. Maybe things like that were normal for Dark Moon? He hadn't been around long enough to know ... but he was pretty sure he hadn't seen any dragons that looked like two other dragons all stirred together.
Food ... food sounded like a plan. Food always helped, right? Orena made her way into the hall to see what there was she could feed her lagging emotional state with. The wild swings had really gotten to her, lately... the work, the building anticipation, the excitement of the hatching itself, watching her best friend impress ... and then being the only Candidate left standing of the lot. That was cruel, cruel blow, and it left her in a staggered emotional state where she didn't know what she was anymore. She didn't even know if she was going to cry, or just sit there and stare.
Shock ... maybe that was a good word for it? Orena didn't know. And now that she'd found the food, she kinda just looked at it dejectedly. She wasn't hungry. Not really. Taking a single cookie, she went to find a spot to sit and nibble on the edges of it, watching everyone else. She wasn't even thinking about what to do next, she hadn't gotten that far. She was still stuck on the odds ... and wondering if that was all there was to it. Odds. To be the only one left. Was there something wrong with her?
Food was always appreciated ... especially when provided in - oh yes yes yes - copious amounts. The only problem with this picture was that, despite there being quite a lot of food, all hot and fresh and free for the taking ... there was one slight issue. How to reach it, much less eat it? H'nam was really really ... seriously really tired of being all tied up. How long was it going to take for his shoulders to heal anyway?! He stood there and stared at the food for awhile, rather dejectedly.
He, too, had gone through the wildest swing of his life ... he had impressed a dragon! By the first egg, how had he managed that? He wasn't part of the Weyr, he hadn't attended any lessons at all ... shards. He'd blown through, stolen a few things, blown out ... gotten stabbed ... and now he was going to be a Rider? How backward was that?
But ... !! He still couldn't reach that food!! Talk about one of the worst ways to torture a youth, that was it. He twitched, inside his tied up jacket, sighed, and looked around. Might as well people watch, while his adorable black dragon slept away in peaceful slumbers... somewhere. H'nam was not at all certain he could find the place again, once the dragonet woke up.

“It’s pretty rare to find me at a party.” Akki cracked back, grinning into the glass she was holding. She crossed her legs and fixed her dress and laughed, “I was helping out in the kitchens. Or I was trying too.” She jabbed a finger in the direction of a cook, “I nearly loped his thumb off at one point.”
The cook held no hard feelings it seemed because he saw the bluerider look over and grinned, giving her a thumbs up – a thumb that was covered in bandage. She snickered, “He was trying to get me to set him up with my brother.” The comment had caught her off guard while she was chopping out vegetables, catching his finger when she quickly turned to see if he was serious. He was, but that was besides the point. She cocked an eyebrow and tilted her head slightly, “A present? For me? It’s not your firstborn, is it?”
“Oh R’anl, you should know by now that everything in Dark Moon is strange.” She laughed. The Silver made a good choice though. Andilay would make a strong willed Junior Weyrwoman. She was quite the character, that was for sure. Akki didn’t really know Faine, she had seen the redhead pocket a few spoons before so she was still debating whether or not she had what it took to be a goldrider. Ah, well, time would tell. "Did you see the last dragon? I thought he was going to cry, he looked so shy!"

K'dan was yet another rider trying to help out in the kitchens for the feast. Leave it to the bluerider to be the first one to volunteer to help. He'd seen Akki around as well, but beyond simple greetings, they just carried about their work. Help was needed, and the heat only made things more sluggish.
But when it was all said and done, K'dan sighed in relief. Akki would go get her glass of wine, of course. But K'dan simply wanted a nice, cool glass of water. He sat down at the nearest table, a couple tables away from Akki. Finally others were starting to arrive and K'dan couldn't wait to see how this feast would turn out. Last time, G'han left in a drunken stupor.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Speaking of the infamous bronzerider, he made a more timely arrival to this feast as opposed to the last one. His clothes were much nicer than normal, an odd thing for G'han. But he had his weird moments where he did the unexpected. A nice black button up shirt with a dark grey vest over it and dark grey pants. A pair of recently buffed fancy shoes and G'han was dressed to impress.
He poured himself a glass of wine and walked by K'dan. "Good evening my boy", he said with a grin. G'han lightly punched the bluerider on the shoulder. "Don't be a wall flower this time. Go chat up some ladies", he added as he walked off.
The next person he spotted was Akki herself, he smiled when he saw she was in a dress. It wasn't often she was in one of those. He took a seat next to her, straddling the chair and resting the arm that wasn't holding the wine over the back of the chair as he looked at her and then whistled before giving that goofy grin of his.
"Had a bit of fun in that dress already, did we? A shame I wasn't invited to this bit of fun", G'han joked. He looked back over to K'dan, then back to Akki. "Hey, go chat up K'dan. He might not recognize you and try to chat you up", the bronzerider continued, and gave a slight laugh as he took his first sip of wine for the evening.
Kegin was hungry after the hatching. His nerves were on edge since he didn't impress. It only meant another few turns of waiting till the next flight and clutch. The outcome was really surprising. He had never heard of two dragons in one egg. Once he heard that help might be needed in the kitchens Kegin didn't mind lending a hand. Work might take him mind off of not hatching. Kegin made his way to the kitchen and got to work asking what was needed to be done. He had a fair hand at cooking but nothing extraordinary. Kegin moved about just fine in the heat. He rather liked it. It reminded him of the smiths bellows.
Once Kegin finished his term of volunteering he took a tray stacked with food and decided to bury his disappointment in a mound of random food. He took a table near the back and began to eat. He had a mug of Klah ready in case he started to choke from eating too much too fast. Out of the edge of his eyes he saw Akki talking to someone. He felt like going up and saying hi but then thought better of it. He rather be alone for the moment. Only time will tell when his next big event will happen. He just had to be ready.
"Shards, girl. You're dangerous." R'anl remarked, looking over to see the fellow she had mentioned ... and very clearly seeing that rather bulkily bandaged appendage. Note to self - don't go near Akki when she was wielding anything sharp. Who knows what she might 'accidentally' lop off ... As cheerful as the fellow was being about it, it still looked to R'anl like it was something that was very painful ... especially if it had needed that kind of bandaging. Yikes. He had to wonder if the poor fellow's thumb would ever work right again, after that.
"My firstborn?" R'anl asked, blankly for a moment, before the comment seemed to register. And then he laughed a bit. "No, it's not. But that can be arranged if that's what you want." He teased, before finally finding what he'd been fishing for in his pocket. It was rather bulky, though, and when he handed it to her it was more than a handful. It took a moment for it to unfold itself from its wadded-up folded predicament, and reveal itself to be a pair of new socks. In dark forest green.
R'anl was promptly distracted from whatever Akki might say, though, when G'han appeared and started trying to run Akki off to go harass someone else. R'anl just looked at the other bronzerider for a moment, before deciding to keep his mouth shut. Plainly, G'han knew Akki pretty well. Which was not something R'anl could say. "Good afternoon." He greeted, simply, wondering if maybe he should go find somewhere else to be.
Relina was the first to enter the dining hall with her dragon and flitts. She sat at the nearest table and watched the entrance expectantly, hoping Faine would come in.
You are happy. I am glad. Soranith said to her rider lovingly as she moved to be next to Relina. Relina smiled and laid a hand on her side.
It was a wonderful hatching, and I am pleased with the results of it. She responded, thinking about Faine and her gold. She waited patiently, not caring about anyone else entering, not even her sister or D'lan's arrival could break her trance.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~(C)~~~~~~~
"Oh how wonderful! I can't wait to see what the food tastes like here! Daelan, I mean D'lan, how are you feeling? Is it wonderful being a rider? What is his name? Or is this brown a female?" Catilena said excitedly. She always grew overly excited when hatchings concluded and there was a feast afterward.
And this time, I actually know a just-made weyrling! How could it get any better than that? She thought to Mosaic, who chittered above her head.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~(D)~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Nervously, Daelan entered the dining hall with Catilena, Lenoth at his side. He smirked a little at her off-the-wall attitude and gulped before speaking.
“Well, uh, it feels wonderful, I like being connected to him, his name is Lenoth, and no, Lenoth is male.” He said, trying to answer her questions in order.
This one is weird. Mine, where are we going? Lenoth asked him. D’lan looked at him lovingly.
There is a feast for all the new riders, That is where we are going. It’s like a party.
Sounds fun. Will there be other dragons too? Lenoth asked. D’lan chuckled and nodded.
Yes, and their riders. This will be fun Lenoth. D'lan told him. His dragon's eyes flashed between green and blue as he excitedly walked along his chosen into the room.
”Oh, yeah. You know me; I was already romping all over the place.” Akki told G’han as he made his appearance, rolling her eyes. She leaned over slightly, peeking at K’dan before shaking her head and settling back down into the chair. “No way, I don’t do her sloppy seconds.” There was no doubt about who the ‘Her’ was in that sentence. She punched G’han slightly in the arm, “Now shut up, R’anl got me a gift and you’re interrupting the giving process.”
She looked like a puppy, if she had a tail it would be wagging all over the place. No one ever got her gifts! Actually, that wasn’t true. R’xis got her a necklace but it had strings attached. She peered past R’anl and waggled her fingers at Kegin when she noticed the boy. Akki offered him a sympathetic smile and mouthed ‘You’ll Impress next time’. Of course, who knows if the boy would be able to read her lips. For all he knew she could have been saying ‘Don’t choke on the wine’
She frowned, her gaze settling on R’anl. “I’m not dangerous! He startled me! You can’t startle me when I’m holding sharp things.” Okay, it was partially her fault but come on! The cook deserved some of the blame too, right? And it’s not like anyone really needed a thumb. “I think firstborns are more of a ‘I’ve known you for six sevendays’ gift.” She nodded absentmindedly, watching as the fabric unfolded itself into…
“Socks! You got me socks!” Akki cried out joyously, holding them up like she had never seen something so beautiful. They were dark green and forests were green and forests were lush. “This colors means you’re a lush, by the way.” She added, her crooked smile coming into play. She glanced at G’han and stuck her tongue out, “You never get me gifts. I like R’anl a lot better than you.”
------
Faine didn’t really own any nice clothes. Her parents weren’t rich, her father being a holder and her mother being a cook, so she mostly just got her sisters hand-me downs. Normally she didn’t mind but it was times like this where a nice dress would have been rather pleasant. She rummaged through her clothes for a moment, ignoring half of them – some colors simply didn’t look good on a redhead. Finally she pulled a dress over her head; a rather basic one actually. It was a nice cream color, obviously not the same tone as her skin for that would look odd, that had a v-neck shape – part of her scar peeking out.
Her hair was too short to really do anything with it and she was content with her dress so she went and woke up Colvarinth from her sleep. “We’re going to be late.” Faine whispered softly, a bit nervous to wake up the dragon. What if the gold woke up and realized that oop! Faine wasn’t the girl she wanted after all.
Colvarinth cracked one eye open, We will not be late. The party will wait for us. Despite her words though, she slunk off of the couch and nodded towards the door, ready to leave.
Faine was pretty sure the party wouldn’t wait for them but thought it pointless to argue – Colvarinth was already showing that she was rather stubborn in her opinion. She entered the dining hall and didn’t even have to look around for Relina, the girl was right there near the door.
“Relina!” Faine cried out happily, almost dashing at the girl as she swooped in and gave her a hug.
Uslanee was overseeing all the feast preparations, and had had little time to watch the Hatching. But she had spotted the pairs making their way to the waiting food, and was glad of the successful Impressions. Now, she was supervising the last dishes as they finished cooking, and sending out fresh-baked rolls and whatever wine she could scrounge from the storerooms. She paused to sip some water and fan herself with a towel. It really was too hot. It was a good thing they had brought in all that ice before this. She briefly considered going down to the fresh, cold storerooms, but she knew she didn't have time for that indulgence, and sighed. Soon the weyrleaders would be making an appearance, and she had to as well. She rested for one more moment, then went back to the kitchens. There was work to be done.
---------------------
Jeri had fed Tirzinth till he was fit to burst, and he had almost fallen asleep right there in the Lower Caverns, but his rider had vetoed that idea. "You'll just be in the way, and it will be too noisy to be restful anyway," she had told him, and that was enough to convince him to move to his new home in the Weyrling barracks. He settled with a contented sigh, curling up with his head on his tail. She stayed for a moment, stroking his head as he began to doze off and reveling in the fact that this was her dragon. She swelled with emotion, realizing she wouldn't be alone ever again. Even if she and Orena didn't work things out, even if she wasn't good at making friends, Tirzinth would be there. It was comforting, and she was loath to leave him.
But there was a feast to attend, and since she was one of the new weyrlings being celebrated, she kind of had to be there. She gave the blue's hide one more soft pat before walking to the Candidate Barracks. As she rummaged through her things for something proper to wear, she realized she would have to move them. But that could be done later. Her stomach gave a pinch as she uncovered the shirt Orena had made for her. It was really the nicest thing she had, and its cobalt blue shade was quite appropriate, considering. So she changed into it, smoothing the ruffles a bit, and pulled on her least-worn pants. She tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear and, feeling suitable to attend, made her way into the Dining Hall.
She stifled a groan as she stepped in. She'd forgotten how many people were likely to be present. Always so many people in a Weyr! she thought irritably. Still, she entered, and quickly found a glass of wine to occupy her hands. She sipped it sparingly, and looked around for a familiar face. There! A head of black curls was bobbing, and Jeri was sure it was Orena. Had she Impressed? She tried to recall, but Tirzinth had found her so early on, and she'd only had eyes for him after that. She walked up to the other girl, and gently tapped her on the shoulder.
G'han shook his head and laughed. "Poor lad. He just chose poorly. I know the feeling", G'han said with a grin. Though his sympathy was vague. There was no telling how he could relate, especially since the bronzerider had transferred to another weyr for awhile. "Guess I can't blame you, though. But I hate to see him be another wall flower at another hatching feast. He needs to loosen up, and nobody loosens people up better than you", G'han glanced back at K'dan, then over at Akki with a grin.
But he soon hushed as she was given her gift. Socks? Of course, socks. G'han grinned and looked up as Akki was sticking her tongue at him again. "Give you gifts? You come in my weyr in the middle of the night, knowing I sleep naked. I think that's gift enough. Besides, it's not a surprise if you know every inch of my weyr and barge in it all the time. Admit it, you'd find out I'd have a surprise gift for you and go snooping when I'm not around", G'han stated.
Actually, G'han had purposely let false information slip to the drudges that he had a surprise gift for Akki before, just to see if she'd raid his weyr. G'han left Azure as a spy, and he was actually rather good at it. Up until the point he saw Akki enter the weyr, look in the first cabinet, and decide to help her. The poor flitt could be a bit dense at times.
He looked up at the other bronzerider, finally noting him. G'han had a way of accidently ignoring people, especially when he was chatting it up with Akki. They had a tendency to lose themselves in their own world. "Oh hi. If you don't know already, I'm G'han", he introduced himself with an awkward grin and a wave.
R'anl smiled slightly, somewhat impressed that Akki really had been serious about wanting socks... that or she was a really good actor, one. In any event, it was nice to get such a reaction out of her. However, having her suddenly turn and use her socks to taunt G'han ... that was rather unexpected. And very odd. R'anl couldn't help but grin a bit when she proclaimed that she liked him, though. Nice sentiment, that. He just hoped that G'han wasn't going to take exception to that remark and get nasty over it... some fellows were like that.
It was a tad embarrassing, listening to them talk. Clearly, they knew each other really well... it made him feel like he was butting into something rather personal. He was just about to get up and leave, when G'han spoke to him. "Eh? Oh. Er ... yeah, I heard. Nice to meet you, G'han. I'm R'anl. I ride Geth... the big bloke that thinks he's aggressive." He nodded a bit. R'anl might do a half decent job of vanishing into the woodwork, but it was as if Geth made a point of sticking out among other dragons.
Orena looked up when someone nudged her. What she saw was not only someone she knew, but Jerodyn herself. Instantly, she lit up just as always before. "Hi!" She greeted, getting up to hug the other girl, before holding her out at arms length and inspecting her from head to foot. "Wow! That looks better on you than I ever imagined!" She congratulated, before grinning at her. Orena was flattered, that Jerodyn was actually wearing the gift that she'd given her. The blue looked so good on her ... regal, almost. Blue was a color that Orena absolutely adored in material ... and it had taken a lot of wheedling to talk her father out of the material for this shirt. "And how is the baby?" She asked, delighted for her friend in her Impression.
Akki frowned slightly, “I’m not going to make him loosen up if he’s not willing, that’s just boring for me. However, I’m sure I could find someone to entertain him.” The last part was said with a wickedly sly grin, her brain churning with possibilities.
She feigned a shudder, “Seeing you naked is definitely a gift I would like to return.” They sounded like harsh words but she knew G’han wouldn’t take offense. Their relationship was always borderline destructive. It was true she had snuck into his weyr to search for some supposed gift that was meant for her. Azure had caught her but instead of screeching to G’han, helped with the search. Akki got bored of searching though and just simply ended up playing with the firelizard instead. It was an afternoon well spent.
Akki bent down, shoving her dress up to her knees for a moment as she kicked off her shoes. She rolled the socks on to her feet and straightened her legs, admiring the green. She let her dress fall back down and kicked her shoes underneath the table – she would go barefoot tonight and show off the socks. Did she look dumb with a pale green dress and dark green socks? Yup. But fashion never really applied to Akki. She turned and flung her arms around R’anl, “I love them! I didn’t think you were serious about getting me socks!”
A hand flew up to Akki’s mouth as she winced slightly, “That’s your bronze? I think Ebbeth may have tried picking a fight with him once.” Ebbeth tried to pick fights with all the bronzes though, Faranth knew why.
Were it anyone else under any other circumstances, Relina would have been a fiery ball of fury at being hugged so abruptly. However, upon realizing it was Faine, Relina relaxed and hugged the girl back, albeit a bit softly.
"I am so happy for you. You deserve this Faine." She said quietly. She let go and looked at her best friend lovingly, or at least, Relina-lovingly. She smiled and kept herself from glaring at Faine but that was about as adoring as she was going to get. Nonetheless, her feelings could be easily identified. Soranith sniffed wonderingly at her rider and turned to Colvarinth.
Mine is happy. Yours is happy as well? This will be fun, right? Soranith said to the little queen, trying to be somewhat friendly to her.
G'han grinned and shrugged his shoulders. "Oh, but you do return. You do warm my furs best, I'll give you that", G'han told her, purposely twisting her words like he often did and knowingly fueling her ego. They certainly did have a relationship that borderlined huge implosions. Each contributed to it in their own way. Despite everything they did to one another, however, their friendship was none-the-worse for it.
The bronzerider looked back at R'anl. "Ah yes. Geth. I believe my bronze, Gerenanth, has encountered him on a number of occassions. You'll have to excuse my bronze, we transferred to another weyr for awhile and while we were there he decided he was just as big, bad, and arrogant as the other bronzes. Gave me a bad name. Nearly ruined my reputation until I told them he had some weird disease that I made up. Can you believe those people actually bought it? Like I'd know names of dragon diseases", G'han rambled. He did ramble quite a bit, especially in the company of Akki or wine. In this case it was both. To emphasize the point, G'han took another sip of wine.
He took a look at the glass, then back to Akki. "I think I'll actually sit through this one sober. Last time was fun and all, but I'd prefer to atleast be awake the next time you take advantage of me after a feast", G'han stated to Akki. He looked around the feast, more people were spilling it. It was a slow funnel of people at first, but more and more rapidly people were pouring in.
"I think I'll actually dance this time too. I'd ask you to dance, but I'm still deciding if I want to sacrifice my feet again", G'han said as he glanced back at Akki. He remembered the last time they danced, Akki wasn't the most coordinated person and it showed heavily. Still, it was an enjoyable dance. Especially after he found out it was Akki. Of course G'han was also vastly amused that their first kiss was under the guise of other names or characters. They didn't even really know it was each other.
Heck, G'han was convinced it was a certain greenrider. A certain greenrider that had made him think twice about getting into an actual committed relationship so soon. Especially when she left so suddenly and without word. It was like his first relationship all over again, except this time she actually left and there was no mutual mis-understanding. "Maybe I'll ask the Weyrwoman for a dance. Think that'll shake things up? Though we never said it was official that I had to seduce her, right?", G'han asked as he looked over the crowd. G'han's own humor was his coping mechanism. Maybe it was Akki's too. But even G'han understood that he'd never fully understand her. Heck, he didn't fully understand himself.
R'anl grinned when his reward was a hug, which he cheerfully returned, wrapping his arms around Akki. "I didn't know I was, either." He admitted. "But ... I guess I was. So ... here we are." He chuckled a bit, before letting her go so she could do whatever she wanted to do next. She did seem like the sort of person that had a really hard time holding still for very long at all. That, and it was a tad warm for extended hugs. Way to make a body pass out, and not from swooning.
"Eh? He did? Well ... I hope Geth didn't hurt him too much..." R'anl apologized, before G'han made a similar comment. Wow ... apparently Geth was getting around a lot more than R'anl himself was! And that was ... well ... that was odd. As dark as Geth made himself out to be, it was amazing he was associating at all. "Ehr ... what disease was that?" R'anl asked, as he would be terribly unaware of how to even make a made up name sound like something genuine at all. G'han must be talented indeed! That ... or he hung out with a Healer at some point to get an ear for the sounds of diseases.
His gaze wandered a bit, until it settled on a youth that looked rather perturbed. Of course, being a youth with his arms all tied up and faced with a banquet unreachable ... yeah, that might perturb R'anl a bit, too. "Does anyone know what happened to him, that he's trussed up like a criminal?" R'anl asked, jerking his chin at where H'nam stood, trying to wiggle a cookie off the table with an elbow. He was in a rather interesting position, for he had a plate between his knees to catch it. How he planned to go anywhere with the plate afterward was anyone's guess. Muchless get the cookie back off the plate. All R'anl knew was that the youth had been that way for quite a while now.
“I met your sister, did I tell you that?” Faine beamed, taking a step back from Relina but left her hands on the girl’s shoulders. The redhead wasn’t used to praise, it made her feel awkward and embarrassed so she just gave Relina a bashful smile when the girl said she deserved Colvarinth.
It seemed dream-like to her. She remembered talking with some others about what they would like to Impress or what they thought they would, she couldn’t remember which. Faine had said a green and when asked ‘Why not a gold?’ she admitted that she didn’t see any gold rider qualities in herself. And now here she was, a silver streaked gold at her heels. “And I saw you on the stands.” Faine added, grinning widely at the image of Relina when Faine had Impressed. Hatchings were definitely a lot nicer when you knew people – fellow candidates and/ or people in the stands.
Yes, Mine is quite happy. Colvarinth crooned, though her tone almost came off as ‘She’s happy because I found her’. She paused then wrapped her tail possessively around Faine’s ankle. How long has you and Yours known Mine Admin's Note:
She sounded almost worried that maybe she would have to compete against this green for Hers’ love. “When the dancing starts, will you dance with me?” ----- Akki closed her eyes for a second, listening to G’han talk about Gerenanth. It really was interesting how much the bronze had changed when he had returned to Dark Moon. He acted like your typical bronze now, which was rather entertaining. She took a sip of her wine and put down her glass before staring at G’han and said in a rather somber voice, “G’han, affidavithy is a pretty serious illness in dragons. It’s no joke, bud.” She shook her head slowly, as if she had seen many dragons succumb to the illness. “See, that joke was for your own good. I taught you the dangers of overdrinking.” Akki said, sounding rather pleased with herself. As if she was someone to talk about the dangers of binge drinking. “Your feet are too big, they got in my way. And I think the Weyrwoman would turn you down.” She shrugged casually, the last part said with a wicked grin. She looked at R’anl and frowned slightly, “You’ll dance with me, right? I need someone to dance with!” Akki turned to see where R’anl was gesturing too. It didn’t take her long to figure out, there was only one lad in there in some sort of straight jacket contraption. “Dear Faranth.” Akki muttered, horrified. “I know I should go help him… but I can’t turn away” She whispered, her eyes wide as she watched the boy struggle with the cookie and plate. “The bad side of me is battling the good side. Watch or help? So far the bad side is winning.” Wasn’t that the kid who Impressed the black? Maybe blacks only Impressed to gimpy people? Ah, wait, that came out mean.
G'han was about to say the name of the disease he made up, when suddenly Akki said it for him. "Oh right. I think I told her that story. It's hard to keep up with what I tell her", G'han admitted with a shrug and apologetic grin.
He looked at his own feet, then Akki's. "Oh look who's talking. And I know you intentionally twist when you "accidently" stomp on feet", G'han pointed at her when he spoke. He took another sip of wine, then chuckled. "Are you kidding me? I loved it once I sobered up. The gossip and rumors in the weyr hit an all time high that morning after", G'han grinned at Akki.
"Eh. Maybe. Even so, there's plenty of ladies here that I could dance with. Could, but whether or not I want to is another story altogether. I mean, once you've had Akki you just can't go back. Right?", G'han had been looking over the crowd again when he spoke, but looked back over to Akki when he was addressing her. He knew he was intentionally fueling her ego again. It was fun to do that. It made Akki feel good, and it just gave him more amusement.
Azure suddenly popped from between and landed on G'han's shoulder with a happy chirp. G'han smiled and scratched the blue flitt's head. "He's a rather cheery fellow, but he's not very good with secret missions. That and he likes Akki more than what's healthy", G'han nodded. The blue chirped to put emphasis on the point.
R'anl listened to the both of them talk, sometimes quite interested in what he heard, and sometimes just ... well ... listening. What better way to get to know someone than to listen to them talk? There seemed to be a lot of rather strange stories floating around, that was for sure. It made his own life seem rather uninteresting and dull ... which actually made him feel better. Less liable to create a scene, like that. And scenes were not things he wished to create. Getting asked to dance, however, caught him off guard, and it reflected on his face. Was she serious?!
"Sure." R'anl answered, just as soon as his brain caught back up to the current topic. "I'll dance with you." Thank goodness he actually knew how to dance ... sortof. Otherwise he'd have found himself in a very interesting pickle indeed! A fellow would have to be a complete and total fool to pass up on a lass like Akki wanting to dance!
Her reaction to seeing the lad struggling with his cookie, though, was decidedly odd. Especially the part where she narrated it all out loud. "Akki? Are you okay?" He asked, curiously, glancing between her and H'nam's little self-absorbed adventure.
As a result, he managed to miss seeing the next portion of it, where H'nam did manage to successfully wiggle the cookie off the table. It actually landed on the plate, amazingly enough. Unfortunately, it landed with a *klack*, and bounced off again, to hit the floor and go rolling off across the room under passing feet and chairs. H'nam watched it go for a moment, before heaving a slow sigh and starting over with the next cookie on the table. Maybe this one wouldn't be so hard, and would splat instead of crack.
“No way!” Akki protested loudly. “No way are you stealing my disease name, I had to come up with that one on the spot.” She sniffed. She hadn’t heard the story before and apparently the joke she had been trying to crack failed. She was rather proud of ‘Affidavithy’, it almost sounded like it could be in their bloodstreams at that very moment. Or, you know, not.
She stared at her feet when G’han did and wiggled her toes happily. In the beautiful socks R’anl had given her, there’d be no way for her to hurt anyone’s toes with her shoes. That was another plus for socks! She shifted slightly and kicked her shoes further away, hoping that they would stay hidden so no one could tell her to put them back on. She was like a stubborn five turn old. “The reason you can’t go back after me is because I’ll dig my nails into your skin and refuse to let go.” The bluerider grinned, looking up from the floor finally.
It seemed she picked an interesting time to look up too, because R’anl had quite the expression on his face. “You don’t have to dance with me if you don’t want too.” Akki laughed, taking his surprised expression for when of ‘Do I have too?’. She blinked, “No, wait. I’m lying; you still have to dance with me.” If R’anl didn’t dance with her, then who would?
She wrapped her hand around R’anls wrist, staring at H’nam. “I feel bad for him!” She breathed, watching as the cookie hit the floor and went rolling along the floor and away from the boy. Her fingers let go of the bronzeriders wrist as she pumped her fist into the air, “You can do it!”.
Words of encouragement, that’s what H’nam needed! Of course now she looked like an idiot.
Relina smirked and gently grabbed Faine's arms.
"I figured you would. You both are crazy like flitts, ha." She said, tilting her head at her. Relina was still feeling the full rush of endorphins from seeing her friend finally impress a dragon. All over again, she saw her own impression, her first contact with Soranith, and savored the memory. Meanwhile, Soranith was in deep conversation with Colvarinth.
Mine and Yours have known each other since before I hatched. They are very close. Yours has helped mine learn, and she is very kind to her. I like her, but I like Mine more. Soranith said to the little queen. She was more interested in learning about the oddly-colored gold than about sucking up to a rider not hers, and she was not afraid to show it.
Relina nodded at Faine and looked around.
"Of course. I would be more than happy to, goldrider." She said with a hint of teasing respect.
