"If you have a simpler blade that would be suitable for everyday use, I believe I have enough marks for both. 3 marks? You will not be making much of a profit off of this, but I can appreciate doing something for the love of it. I make my instruments for the love of it, though I do sell them from time to time."
"I think I will do that, buy a second blade, if you have a suitable one, for everyday use. I can use this blade for occasions that call for a more ornate blade. I'd hate to scratch a blade trying to hack at a piece of firestone without thinking."

Veran chuckled and looked at her. "I like her." he said. Veran looked at Rogin and dug through his other things. He pulled out a more simple blade but just as balanced and just as exceedingly sharp. "Will this do for you? I will part with this for 2 marks. Since you want both you can have a good deal. Give me 6 marks and you can have both. Does that sound fair?"

Anassa took the second blade, checking the blade over for faults and for balance. He wasn't trying to cheat her. The blade looked like it was in great condition and he could have gotten quite a bit more than 6 marks for it. She hooked the ornate knife to her belt, still holding the other one as she reached for her belt purse. She shook the marks out.
"Harper Hall marks work for you?" she queried. She had other marks, but some places frowned upon Harper marks because the Hall was in disfavor. She had several marks from selling her instruments to the Hall, where they would be sold at Gathers, but she had been paid in other marks if the need arose.

Veran thought a moment and then remembered a few rumors he heard around when he walked here and there. "Do you have any other marks on you? I know the Hall is in disfavor. It would be hard to use the marks. If i must I can accept some Harper and payment in another mark." Veran began to feel like he might be taken advantage of. But then he remembered that one who makes instruments would mostly sell to Harpers. So he was understanding to her need.
Rogin was surprised Veran was getting along with the rider so well. Like him all members of the Family hated the Riders. But they also knew need to make them happy. Until they struck of course.

Anassa bit back a grimace. Hopefully, the disfavor against the Harpers would wane soon, before Thread fell. She returned the full Harper hall marks to her pouch. "Things will have to change soon if Pern is to survive Threadfall."
Trouble?
No. Just doing business.
The dragon settled down back to her nap, satisfied that her rider was okay. She didn't like the dissatisfaction coming from her bondmate, but she sensed that it wasn't an immediate annoyance, just something that she was reminded of.
"I have 2 Smith hall half marks, 2 Weaver marks and a half, a half a Harper mark, and a Healer Hall mark. Will that do?" A half a Harper mark shouldn't be too hard for him to spend or trade, but she could replace the two half marks with another Smith mark.

Veran smiled and nodded. "We have a deal." he said. He put the two knives into leather sheaths to protect the blades and handed them to her hilt first. He took the marks offered and nodded to Rogin. Then he began to walk away, disappearing as he did the first time in the tall grass.
Rogin chuckled and looked at her. "Are you happy with your trade? And I agree. Pern will need to change to survive." He had his own thoughts but kept his face neutral. "Well then now that business is done, shall I interest you in some pies? My treat."

Anassa happily handed over the marks and hooked the blades to her belt. She'd pick up the more ornate one when she got back to the weyr. "Yes, I'm pleased with the trade. That was a better deal than the one I would have gotten from that store owner in town."
She smiled. "I think I'd like that. After that, the flight should be over so I can probably return to the weyr. It is up to you if you wish to remain with me there. I'm sure there are ways for you to be useful there. We are preparing for thread as quickly as we can but we fear that even that won't be enough."

Rogin smiled and looked at her. "As much as I would like to stay with you and help out but I must tend to my family. They need me to tell them how to survive. I know how to deal with thread out here in the Lands. I think I could teach you Riders a thing or two on thread." Rogin smiled and chuckled. "AS for anything else. I will be keeping an eye on you. If you need me look to the shadows and ask for me. I will make my way to you. I will continue to do so until I pay you back."
