Anassa tucked her riding helmet under her other arm and brushed a trickle of sweat off her brow. She glanced back at the dragon who was about to launch herself to find sun.
Wait Pri. Do you mind if I hook my riding gear to your straps?
No. It isn't that heavy. You already have a bag on here. Tuck them in there.
I was worried about the heat.
I'm going to sun. The heat won't be that bad
Ok. Thanks love. She walked back to her lifemate, shucking the heavy, fleece-lined, wher-hide jacket off her lithe frame so that she could tuck it into the bag she had hastily grabbed when word that Kaith was rising reached her ears. It hadn't been so long ago that Waeith had caught Priath, but Kaith's last flight wasn't that long ago. She didn't want to risk Priath rising at the same time as Kaith. The Queen would have killed the green if she competed for her males.
She tucked the helmet in and then scratched the dragon's eye ridges. She chuckled with Priath closed half a lid. The green hummed, and her eyes whirled blue and green with pleasure.
"I'll call you when I'm ready to go."
Take your time.
Anassa made her way back to the small shops lining the street. She had her eye on one of the belt knives in one of the stores. She had a few marks to spare, and her belt knife had broken after the last Gather. The blade hadn't been as well-made as she would have liked.

Rogin was walking through the stalls looking for a mark. It had been a time since he had taken for himself. And there was one thing on his mind that he wanted. He needed a Runner for one thing. Rogin's hand went to his belt knife as he walked to the beastcrafter. Unlike most knives this one was specially made. He pulled out the knife and was about to take the crafter when a startled Runner reared on him and It's hoof his his shoulder. The blow caused him to lose his balance and fall. The Runner tried once more to stomp on him. Rogin got lucky and began trying to dodge the runner, but couldn't get off the floor.

Anassa heard the scream of the bystanders and the angry whinny of a runner. She whirled, her heart beat rising as she saw a runner attacking a man. The greenrider raced to where the runner was about to come crashing down on the man again.
"Hai!" She yelled, and leapt up to grab the halter of the runner. She threw her weight against the creature so that it didn't land on the injured man. The creature struggled against her and tried to rear again. Anassa planted her heels and pulled down. Luckily, the creature responded better with weight on his halter than just a rope around his neck. The beastcrafter was wringing his hands with worry and then yelled when the creature tried to bite the dragonrider.
Priath was roaring angrily in the background but she didn't want to come near the runners and the street was too small for the green to come in. She knew that the dragon smell would cause the runners to bolt and she didn't want to risk them hurting her rider.
Anassa brought her fist up and knocked the beast on the muzzle. The startled runner shied away, and the beastcrafter hurried forward with a rope to tie the crazy beast down. She kept a tight hold on the runner until the beastcrafter had him tied down better. She leapt away when he nodded, narrowly missing getting bitten again.
"I hope you don't intend to sell that beast." Passerby had gathered on the street to watch the spectacle at a respectful distance away. They nodded. Anassa knew that word would spread about the crazy creature and no one would buy the beast. He would be good for nothing but meat and hide.
"My apologies dragonrider."
"It is not me you should apologize to." Anassa dismissed the crooked beastcrafter and went to the man that the runner had attacked.
"Are you alright sir?" Worried grey-green eyes peered into the man's face as she knelt to check his wounds.
Priath let out a worried bugle in the background and Anassa paused to reassure her dragon before her eyes refocused on the injured man.

Rogin didn't catch the comment about her being a rider. He looked at the woman and he paused a moment. It wasn't every day that a woman made him pause. But she did. "I am fine. But you have saved my life. Eventually it would have had me. I owe you my life. Please accept my service till I have repaid my debt to you." Rogin stood and looked at her. He crossed his arm over his chest, knuckles on his breast bone. Rogin looked at the Beastcrafter, "I want that Runner." he said.

((OOC: Mc, I'd like to ask you to make your posts a little longer, about one small paragraph would be fine. Short paragraphs are fine from time to time but not every time. Thanks.))
IC:
Anassa breathed a sigh of relief when he said he was fine, and brushed a strand of short-cropped sun-streaked brown hair back behind her ear. It had come loose from the runner tail she kept it in when she was on her dragon.
Her grey-green eyes widened when he requested that she accept his service until his debt to her was repaid. "Nay good sir, I was merely doing my duty. I could not in good conscience see you trampled to death. It is my calling to help, not to hurt." She thought that he had heard the mention of her status as a rider. Certainly her clothing was not usual for a young woman. She wore her greenrider's knots on one shoulder, and her apprentice Harper knots on the other. However, with the strange characters that came through here, her dress might not have been unusual.
"Perhaps we should take you to the Hold's Healer. That blow was pretty hard to keep you down like that. "
"I'm not sure that is such a good idea." She told him when he requested the runner. "That beast should be destroyed. A beast that attacks humans like that is not safe." She glared at the man, who had the grace to duck his head.
"Yes m'am." The man didn't want to anger the agitated dragon in the back ground by mouthing off to her rider. The dragon may be a green, but she was still many times bigger than he was, and there were others around.

Rogin looked to the beastcrafter. "No I wish to have the beast. I know the risks. Is it not better to make money off of a creature that someone wishes to buy even after the scene? I have delt with many such animals and I do not mind it. Please allow me to buy it." he said. If the animal would attack him to protect the man then it would be a good runner to have in case he was attacked with it around.
Rogin smiled and pulled out the marks he thought the animal was worth, 4 and a half marks seemed fair considering what happened. Rogin looked at the woman, "You may think it odd but this is how I live my life. Someone has saved me so I must return this favor. I wish to repay you even if it means serving you. I would not mind it at all. It is pride that allows me to live this way." Rogin looked at the woman looking her up and down. She was beautiful and he liked the way se acted to people. She seemed one used to control. But all the same he wanted to repay her for what she has done for him.

Anassa shook her head. She had ridden a runner once in her life, when she was traveling from her home hold to the Harper Hall. She would ride adragonback any day!
Of course you would. A mere runner does not compare to me!
Nay love, a runner does not compare.
"It's your head if the beast tries to attack you again." She took another rope from the beastcrafter and tossed a half a mark at the man for it. Anassa frowned at the beast and then looped the rope around its mouth to keep it from biting again. "There. He won't be trying to bite me again."
"If you feel you need to serve me to repay your blood debt, then I must warn you. It won't be easy keeping up with me. I'm a busy woman and Priath is fussy and vain." She realized that this was a matter of honor for him and offered a slim, long-fingered hand for him to shake. "I accept your service to repay the debt you feel is owed." She told him formally.
"Now, what shall we do about this beast? Do you have somewhere to house him? If not, we have stables at the Weyr but getting him there might be a problem if he isn't broken."

Rogin looked at her more clearly for the first time. She said a dragon's name. And that she was going to the weyr. "You are a dragon rider?" he asked. Now Rogin had to be sure she never found out who he was. But he had to repay his debt to her. "I have a place for the runner. My Family will take care for him." Rogin looked at her then at the Runner. A brown Flit flew to Rogin and went on his shoulder. Rogin looked at him and spoke to his mind. The nasty flit hissed at the woman before taking off.
"Do not mind him. He hates eveyone." Rogin chuckled and took the rope to guide the runner. He led the runner just outside the gathered stalls where a Large mountain of a man was waiting with a smaller more sneaky looking man. Rogin nodded his head and handed the rope to the larger. "Take this back. It might be of some use." The man nodded and began to lead the Runner away. The smaller man looked at Rogin and then at Anassa with a wicked grin. Rogin spoke hushed but harsh to him. The man looked Terrified and followed the taller friend.
Rogin turned and went back to Anassa. "I would rather not go to the weyr but if I must to better serve you till after I repay you then what can I do." Rogin looked at her ready for anything she wanted of him.

Anassa nodded at his question. Then she realized that he didn't know her name. "Anassa, rider of Green Priath, formerly of the Harper Hall. It would help if you knew my name."
"Some of my friends have some rather anti-social flitts. It doesn't bother me. My own is probably sleeping in my weyr, lazy thing that he is. I have a blue." She watched the interactions between the three men. She lifted her head defiantly at the wicked grin the smaller man sent her way. Her eyes were stern. If he hadn't been chastised by Rogin, he wouldn't have leered at her long. Anassa didn't care for that kind of look. Just because she wore form-fitting clothing to reduce the bulk on her dragon did not mean that she would stand for leering.
"We cannot return to the Weyr right now in any case. Our Senior Queen is rising to mate months early. Pri just rose a couple of months ago, but with Kaith rising so soon after her last clutch, I didn't want my dragon anywhere near her in case the hormones set her mating cycle off early. My dragon is agile, but Kaith is one of Pern's biggest Queens and Priath wouldn't stand a chance. I don't want to risk losing my dragon. One death in a month is bad enough for the Weyr to deal with. I don't want to make it two. If you have any business to take care of, we can do that. I have nothing better to do, but I do want to stop in that shop to take a look at a belt knife that caught my eye last time I was here. It is still there from the looks of it and I'm in the market for a new one."

Rogin looked at her and smiled. "If it is a knife you are looking for i have a brother that knows very well. He can help you if you are looking. But if you want to take a look at this one it is fine with me. As I have said I am to take care of your needs." Rogin smiled at her and began walking to the stall she was talking about. He liked the look of it. It was set up well. Maybe if he decided to take things slower her would start learning a craft. It would be nice. A way to support his family without worrying of any looking to kill them. "So why does this knife interest you?" he asked.

"That might be a route I want to take if I can't find something I like or you think your brother has better quality items." She glanced around the shop, noting the neatness of the items. The vendor cast a suspicious eye over them and frowned when he caught sight of the dragonrider's knots on Anassa's shoulders.
"Good day to you sir," she told him. He grunted and went back to polishing his blade. Anassa was used to it. Harpers were looked on with disfavor by just as many people as the dragonriders, so she didn't blink. She figured her friend would know if the man was trying to cheat her.
"My beltknife broke a few sevendays ago and I haven't been able to get away from my duties long enough to look for a new one. That's one crafter we don't have in the Weyr right now." She didn't mention that they only had a Master Tanner at the moment in addition to the Healer, but the Tanner was a bronzerider.
"By the way, I didn't catch your name." She walked over to the knife that had caught her eye and picked it up, feeling the shop owner's eyes on her.

Rogin walked with her and grinned, "I am sure his quality is better. He uses his own that he makes. As for my name, I am Rogin." He smiled and looked at the shop owner. Rogin glarred at the man with the eyes of a killer. He owed this woman and Thread will strike him before anyone gets away with cheating her or planning on harming her. Rogin watched the man, "So why is it this one thinks it right to look at you in the way that he is?" Rogin asked. Rogin was more then tempted to pull out his own knife and carve the eyes out of his head.
Rogin looked back to Anassa and wondered if she would like him to do anything for her. He couldn't help but stare at her arse, being slightly behind her. And he liked what he saw. He would gladly roll in the furs with her. Among other things.

"Well then, perhaps I should look at his. This one is decent, but why pay for decent when you can get better quality work." She spoke loud enough for the vendor to hear, deliberately keeping her back turned.
"I'm a rider," she said simply, lowering her voice. She put the blade back down. "I'm also a Harper apprentice. We don't have much favor on Pern right now. The Harpers still support the dragonriders. Many people think that Thread won't fall ever again and we're parasites. We know Thread is returning. All the signs of old are there. We are working hard to prepare, but that doesn't make any difference with people like that. They see us as privileged, lazy theives."
"I don't think I want this knife anyway. There are some other merchants around unless your brother is nearby."

Rogin listened to her. it seemed like he got valuable information by hanging around her and he liked it. He took her hand, showing the man that he was with her and she with him. "Come with me. He is anywhere I call him to be." Rogin chuckled and began to lead her. He sent a message to spike who went to Veran. Veran made haste to go back to Rogin, with some of his assorted creations. If he made money then he was happy to not touch anyone.
Rogin led her to just outside the shops where he met his Family last time. Veran walked up, seeming to just appear out of the grass and stopped before Rogin. Rogin released her hand and clasped the other mans forearm. "This is my brother Veran. Veran this is Bluerider Anassa." Veran bowed his head to her, "A pleasure my lady. Now what can I do for you? Tell me what you wish to see. I was told you want a knife." Veran looked from Rogin to the woman.

"Must be handy to have your family close. Mine is a continent away. Of course, with Priath, I don't have to worry about distance, but I seldom get to see them." Anassa's well-worn boots moved quickly across the dirt path back to the place where the men had taken the crazy runner away.
"Greenrider Anassa." She corrected mildly, holding a hand out in greeting. "Pleasure's mine if you can help me find a good belt knife. Mine broke a couple sevendays ago. Weyr life is rather hectic right now, especially with the hurricane clean up and the newest Weyrlings."
Be careful Mine.
I am. He owes me a blood debt. I doubt he would try to harm me right now, especially with you so near.
It is not he that I worry about. Some of the townspeople don't like riders. We should have gone to Caspian.
Caspian is too close to the Weyr. Kaith's flight could have gone over there.
Just be careful.
"I will be." Her eyes focused back on the men and she realized that she had spoken that last bit aloud. "Sorry. I was speaking to my dragon. Sometimes I forget and speak aloud."

Rogin bowed his head in appology. "Forgive me. I couldn't remember the color and your strength calls you a blue." Rogin chuckled and looked at Veran. Veran took out a rolled fur tied on his back and layed it on the floor. He opened it and showed many different kinds of knives. All were built to last through hard and constant use. "These will not brake from anything short of a dragon trying to bend it. YOu can pount it on rocks and it will not easily go dull. It has been specially layered. Folded consitantly to maintain the blade. I believe this one will be it." The hilt even had a dragon stretched out, it's wings the hand guard and it's head was the pummel. the body was the grip. It was beautifully made. It was well balanced and even light to an enough degree to make a good difference in a fight. "This took me 3 turns to make. If you buy it then take care of it."

Anassa flashed a quick smile. "Greenriders can be strong." She turned her attention to the blades. "I doubt Priath will try to bend my knife. She knows I need it." There was amusement in her cultured voice.
The greenrider's grey eyes widened. "It is a beautiful blade, much more intricate than I was looking for. I just needed a simple, but good quality belt knife." She ran her finger along the etching. "This is too gorgeous to pass up though. May I?" She asked, wanting to test the balance of the knife. Dragonriders were taught how to defend themselves, because if they died, so did the great beasts they were bonded to. She knew enough about knives not to get cheated horribly, and enough to defend herself should a fight arise.
"If I do buy it, you can be certain it will be well-cared for." She told Veran solemnly. "Knives aren't toys, and I know enough to keep the blade in good condition. Harpers loathe violence almost as much as healers, as do riders, but we know the value of a good blade when you're traveling. Plus a knife has good uses in day to day life. How much?"

Veran smiled at her answer. HE handed her the knife, handle first, to her and stepped back. Rogin watched with amusement. "I am sure he can give you a more simple blade if you wish. He is very skilled I believe. He just enjoys the grandure of it when he makes the ones like that." Veran smiled and chuckled a bit. "You praise me too much. I only do my best. I do not make or sell a blade I am not willing to use myself. If I don't trust the blade with my life I destroy it at start over." Veran had pride in this craft as well as his torturing. But he wouldn't tell her that. Veran swanted to make a good reputaion with crafting if he could.

OOC: Bah! I had responded to this but something keeps eating my posts!
IC:
"If a man is willing to trust his life with his blade, then what higher recommendation could I have?" She flipped the knife into a defensive grip and lifted it into a block. "This has good balance. I think a simpler knife would suit, but I am quite taken with this one. I enjoy the grandeur of it as well."
She flashed a smile at the two men before flicking the knife into an offensive gesture to test the blade again. She took a strand of hair from her shoulder-length hair and tested the edge on the blade with it. It split the hair cleanly.
"How much do you want for it?" She met Veran squarely in the eye with her grey-green ones, all seriousness. Her free hand came to rest on the belt purse tied to her belt.

Veran smiled and was happy by her enjoyment of the blade. "Do you intend to by this and a more every day use blade or just his?" he asked. "This one I will be happy to part with for 3 marks. It is beautiful and all but I do not do this for the money. But for the enjoyment of knowing my blades are put to good use. They will never let you own." Veran looked at her, ready to pull out a simpler one if need me.
Rogin smiled. He knew Veran's skill well and was glad she believed in him as well. "I do not see that as a bad deal myself." he said. "But you are the buyer so it is up to you. If you ever need a blade he is your man for the job."
