Kegin smiled and got up next to her. He sat on the rock and looked at her. "So what is up with your flit? It seems to enjoy everything." Kegin chuckled. He looked at her and lifted a brow. "How did you get your flit? I never had one. Not sure if I want one or not." He looked at the copper and watched him. He seemed so curious and playful. Nothing like the one he always dealt with. He looked at the sky and watched the dragons over head.

"Hm? Oh ... well ... it comes and goes in fits and stuff." Orena sat down on the rock next to where Kegin was. "She is just like her name - her own nemesis. It's why I called her that. My little Nemisis." Orena reached over and patted the flitter's back affectionately while she batted at the pebble in the water with a fore foot. Her tail lifted slightly, in response to the patting, clearly having enjoyed the attention even if she didn't deign to return any.
"I got her at a hatching in the lower caverns, actually. In the main hall ... someone brought in a bunch of little eggs, and I got lucky enough to get one. They don't sell them here, you see. Which is so cool. If you impress, you get it! If you don't ... maybe next time! I think it's marvelous. I am told having meat in your hands greatly increases the chances of attracting one." Orena grinned, before simply scooping up the flitter and hugging her. Nemisis squeaked in protest, wriggling back out of the girl's arms. Dropping back to the rock with a splash, the coppery flitter scurried after the pebble again.
This time, she scooped it up into her mouth, and proudly sauntered back to the two young people with her head and tail held high at a jaunty angle, pebble on display in her teeth.

Kegin watched and chuckled. He looked at the flitter and then at Orena. "I see what you mean? And she seems kind of proud of herself." Kegin chuckled and stretched a bit. "So what are you doing later?" he asked. "I was wondering if you would like to get something to eat with me at the dinning hall." He looked at her and then at the copper.
Normally Kegin wouldn't risk asking her out. Even if it was to eat at the dinning hall. He was used to things going wrong during them. Mostly a brown flit would be watching him and causing problems. If word were to get out that he had found any interest in her then a problem might be in her future. That was the last thing he wanted. But he was tired of being the one alone none stop just because he was afraid to get close to anyone. So this time he was going to take a chance.

Orena nodded, petting on the Copper as she settled into the girl's lap, taking the stone with her front feet and turning it over a few times as if inspecting a morsel for eating. Never mind it was a rock. Mostly the flitter was just admiring its earthy bands of different color, some of them coming very close to being just like her own hide; shiny coppery in color. It really was a pretty rock, and apparently at this moment, Nemisis had a collecting bent. In a few minutes, one never knew. She might toss it into the depths of the lake and never think twice about it again.
Orena looked up at Kegin, and smiled. "Sure." she answered. Though it was kinda a moot point ... that was where she went to eat dinner anyway. But she didn't mind the company at all. Making friends was something she fancied herself good at, and she enjoyed doing it.

Kegin smiled. He didn't know any other place to take a girl to eat. He hasn't been outside the weyr since arriving. He looked at Orena and wondered what she was thinking. It would be nice to know what girls thought. Like all guys must wonder. he chuckled to himself. "So tell me about yourself. What do you like? is there a craft you are interested in?" he asked.
Kegin rolled back into the water and swam just before the rock. He wanted to hear her answer. What is she like? He enjoyed her company as of so far. She was fun and seemed honest. And a few times he was sure she would speak her mind if she wanted to. But until he gets to know her better he would never know.

Orena found it entirely odd that he'd asked a question, and then promptly piled off into the water where he couldn't possibly hear much of anything she might have to say unless she yelled at him. Odd ... distinctly odd. She began to wonder if he was a little touched in the head, or wasn't quite healthy. Especially since he'd asked her where she'd gotten her flitter twice already. Strange, strange boy.
Leaning forward and resting her elbows on the rock next to her knees, she gave him a puzzled look. "I'm a tailor." She answered. "I've been making clothes ever since I was old enough to apprentice. But I admit I am interested a lot in runners and dragons. I hope someday I will have a dragon of my own, and we can chase runners!" She laughed, quite well aware that really wasn't such a bright idea. But hey ... it was a silly notion, so she'd said it. Silly was a big chunk of who she liked to be. "What about you? What's your trade?"

Kegin smiled and nodded. "I see. I wouldn't mind a dragon. I am in the smithcraft. I like to work with my hands and I use what I make." he said. He watched her, the way she leaned. he kind of liked the way she looked. He chuckled and lifted a brow. "Then why not be a beastcrafter so you can train runners. They do that don't they?" He smiled and began to float on his back again.
Kegin was enjoying himself. He was beginning to be glad she tackled him on the sand. Kegin was still nervous about having her anywhere behind him. He didn't want her to see the scars and ask questions only to have him scare her off.

Orena shrugged. "I would never have guessed it." she remarked, looking him over critically from where she was sitting, bent over her own knees. "You don't much look like a smith... the smith that was in Caspian had these huge, wonky muscles, you know?" She flexed her arms, not that it showed anything much - she was not only a girl, she was a girl that had done tailoring, instead of anything more strenuous to have developed any kind of muscle bulk. "What do you make?"
"I suppose I could, but I'm really good at tailoring ... and I enjoy it. I like to watch the runners, and maybe sometimes ride them. I don't think I'd be any good at training them. I'm a tad ... excitable myself, you know?" She grinned crookedly. "But I do remember this fellow who trained them ..." she stared off into the distance wistfully. "He was an interesting sort to talk to ..." Orena looked at Kegin again, before grinning mischievously. "I had to stop talking to him after we had an accident one day that resulted in my letting the whole herd go into the countryside. His master wasn't too happy with me, and I wasn't allowed to go back again."

Kegin laughed. "Don't let looks deceive you. I am just well rounded in muscle. Most smiths work on just back and arms. But I also do the rest for just such a reason. I make jewelery as well as weapons." he said. He looked at her as she stared off. She looked really cute. "Well then that does seem like a problem. And I see you might be having an idea of an evil nature." He smiled again and looked at the sky once more. He loved looking at the sky.
Kegin sighed and thought a moment. Things were so peaceful. Even dragons looked like they were enjoying themselves. But he couldn't tell with dragons. Kegin looked at Orena, "Excitable? how so?" he asked. His question was good natured but you never knew with guys his age.

Orena laughed, and sat up before fluttering her arms around herself. "You know, excited! I move too much, too fast, too suddenly. I get ... distracted. I do this, that, the other thing, too ... just about the only time I sit still is when I'm working. Tailoring is very meticulous work, you know." She leaned over, propping elbows on knees again and grinning. "I'd drive runners completely bonkers ... done it before. That or completely desensitize some of them to such erratic behaviors..." She shrugged slightly. "If they didn't have heart attacks first."
"You make jewelry, huh? So maybe you can tell me how come the latest trends in gem fashion have been absolutely horrendous? It's been sharding impossible to create high-end embroidered garments that don't clash garishly with it. But yet everyone seems to be gaga over it." Orena sighed, and propped her chin in a palm, kicking her feet idly in the water. "People are weird."

Kegin lifted a brow. "I do not believe a runner could go bonkers. Desensitize maybe." he chuckled and thought a moment on her question of jewelery. "I do not know. i chose to make the older. But most of all I prefer custom orders. If you know what you want I can make it. And i make it very well if I do say so my self." Kegin smiled and closed his eyes to float in the water. He continued to think. "You sure the excitement isn't in another way?" He opened his eyes again and watched her.
"So how about that food. i believe it would be nice to enjoy a meal with you." He stopped his floating and wadded in the water looking at her. "So by any chance is there a guy that has your attention?" he asked. He was tempted to dunk his head and take a deep breath under water.

Orena smirked at Kegin. Oh ho ho! "You really think I'd tell you something like that? How do you know there isn't a her Admin's Note:[/hr]" She inquired, teasing. But she did oblige in one way, slipping off the rock and back into the lake proper to start the trek across the lake back to shore. Nemisis twirled over head, rock in talons, chirping occasionally like a time keeper.
Food did sound good, one way or the other. She was starting to get chilled from so much time being wet. A nice hot bowl of soup or stew or something would warm the soul right good... or just some klah to do the warming and a bite of whatever she got her hands on would do.

Kegin looked at her and smiled as he watched her. He saw the flit move overhead and followed her. She didn't say she had anyone. But neither did she say she didn't. he could tell this was going to be harder then he would have first thought. He wanted to stay on her good side so he didn't push it any further. Maybe he was doing things wrong. He never been with anyone before so he might be. Kegin swam back to shore and got onto the sand. He sighed as he realized he wasn't planning to swim today so he didn't bring a towel of any kind. "How about I meet you at the dinning hall." he said.
Kegin watched the flit once more. He will always feel edgy around them. Like they all spoke to the one he watches for. The brown terror that was Spike. He shook his head and was back with the now. With Orena. He did enjoy her wit. When she played coy if that was what she was doing. Kegin needed to learn more about women. But how?

Orena got to her feet when she reached the shallows, the waves off the lake gently lapping around her legs as she walked the rest of the way to shore. She, too, had no towel, and she could only grin at his disheveled appearance. "Sure thing, jewel-man." Orena teased, with a cock-eyed salute. Apparently Nemisis thought the upraised forearm was an invite to land, for the copper flitter did just that: landed on Orena's salute. Which promptly resulted in Orena dissolving into a fit of giggles where she hugged the confused flitter.

Kegin looked at her with a slight lift of his brow. She was beginning to confuse him more and more. "Maybe you would like to join me in the baths. After all dragons bathe in this water." Kegin gave a crooked grin and chuckled. He had his brothers slightly maniacal laugh. But it was tempered with good nature. "What do you say?" He figured the worst she would do is leave and decide not to speak to him again. So it was either risk it or go back to square one. He had nothing to lose.

Orena sobered completely at his newest comment, and gave him a deadpan look. What was he, some sort of pervert? "You're joking, right? Absolutely not." She said, firmly. Under no circumstances was she even going to consider that. She was an upright, well-bred Hold lass, not the local Weyr bike. Rather offended at the very idea, she frowned pointedly.
"And you'd do well to not go around asking others that, either. Unless you want your nose busted in a few places for you." If the girl's didn't do it for him, any fellows in the area that overheard definitely would.

Kegin lifted a brow. Did he do something wrong? He asked if she wanted to bathe together. It would be easier and they would be able to wash each other backs. He lifted a brow once more. "A broken nose is the least I have to worry about." Kegin chuckled and took off his tunic. He wrung it out and turned to look back at the lake. The scars on his back showing with the light. They were deep and every now and then would get irritated for one reason or another.
Kegin looked back at her and realized she saw his back. He turned and looked at her not letting her see it any more then she already did. He didn't like the scars he had but at the same time he did. it was more he didn't like the story behind it.

"Why is that? Did you do something?" Orena was suddenly worried ... was he the murderer that she'd been hearing about? She let go of Nemisis, and the flitter vanished between almost instantly. She almost didn't notice his scars at all - a lot of people had scars. Some of them quite extensive. A quick glance was cast over the lake quickly to see what might have his attention, before she returned her gaze to him again.
Nothing about her even remotely spoke of ease anymore; she was worried.

Kegin looked at her and sighed. "Yeah. I was born." He said. "It is something I would rather not talk about." he said. Kegin put his tunic back on and saw her unease. "Are you ok? Is something wrong? Where did your flit go?" he asked. Kegin knew right away that he said too much. She was beginning to not want to be around him now. Things went from good, to bad, to worse. Why was it he never could be at ease around people. maybe he would have better luck next time. "If you are having second thoughts on eating with you, you can turn me down. It won't hurt my feelings none." he said.

Orena turned her head to one side, though she never took her eyes off him. "For now ... that might be a good idea." She agreed, not so sure she wanted to be terribly near this one until she figured out just what in Faranth's name was going on. Whatever it was, it was setting off all the alarm hairs on the backs of her arms.
"I ... nice visiting you." She said, stepping back away for several steps before turning and sprinting back toward the Weyr proper.
